GUTTER-GETTERS

The owner, Paul, told us that he would inspect all our gutters for a fee of $75 and fine tune everything to be sure that the gutters were secure and working properly. We also paid him $280 to install one new gutter. We were not present when he did the work and noticed that a gutter he said he attached securely hadn't been worked on. We called him about it and he claimed, with some irritation, that he had done the job and he expected to be paid. We took him at his word and paid him. Several months later we arrived home and found that the gutter he attached on one end had come loose on the other end and fell to the ground from the upper-story balcony. When we called Paul, he claimed that the end he had attached had held in place. He claimed that we hadn't asked him to check both ends, but that was, in fact, what we paid him to do. The fallen gutter was damaged and bent beyond repair. We had to replace the whole gutter which cost another $400. We asked him why he didn't check the other end of the gutter and he claimed that we hadn't asked him to. We paid for a "gutter tune-up," but we don'[t believe the work was done. If he had done the job well, the gutter would not have come loose. Upon inspection, it was plain to see that if he had check it, as we paid him to, it would never have come loose. It's hard not to wonder if he intentionally left the gutter unsecured knowing that it wouldn't be long before it came off and we might be returning customers. We gave Paul the opportunity to resolve this issue. We told him that we would pay his cost for a new gutter and he could make this right by absorbing the cost of installation. He refused. He took no responsibility for his workmanship nor did he honor his five-year workmanship guarantee.

THE WINDOW CLEANERS WERE VERY CAREFUL BOTH INSIDE AND OUTSIDE OUR HOME. AFTER FINISHING THEY ASKED ME TO DO A WINDOW CHECK WITH THEM. THEY WENT OVER A COUPLE OF SPOTS WE FOUND. THEY WANTED TO MAKE SURE I WAS HAPPY WITH THE FINISHED WORK.
