The owner, Tony answered on the first call and scheduled to meet for an estimate at the end of the day. About an hour prior to the appointment he called and asked to move the meeting up and meet in 10 minutes. That was a bit rushed but I was available. He quoted $360 to do the job including isolating the area in plastic, providing the required paint & new accoustic (popcorn ceiling material), clean-up and disposal. He explained why the popcorn was detaching from the ceiling and what he would do to prevent the problem from reoccuring. He could do the work in one day and the contract offers a 3 year warranty on labor and materials. The contract also specifies the work will be performed over consecutive days until the job is complete. e.g. they won't delay the completion of your job to go work on another jobs. Price was great. He provided a verbal quote on the spot and sent a written quote the next evening. There were no surprises in the written estimate. He was available to start the job in 1 week. He followed up with a courtesy call the next day. The house is older and we don't know whether or not there is asbestos in the popcorn. He doesn't have asbestos certification, but evidently you don't need it for small jobs such as mine. He says he does have the lead remodel renovation certification and a Painting & Decorating license. The only reason we decided to go with another company was the other company did have asbestos removal certification and would test the air quality after the removal of the accoustic to verify there was no asbestos in the air. If it hadn't been for that, we would have hired Black Diamond Painting.
