Knowing that my daughter and her family were coming for the month of August from London, we were promised that the work would be done well in advance of that date. They promised to come Wednesday July 21 and paint through the weekend and be finished by Monday July 26. They arrived on the 21, dropped off supplies and left. They came the next day, painted for half a day and pulled off to do another job, for which they got publicity. The crew of four arrived again on Monday July 26 and painted through Friday July 30th, but did not finish. Sean came on Saturday and sent one guy on Monday August 2nd to paint, but still did not finish. Sean asked for the final payment with promises that the work would be done. He also requested that we tip each of the four painters $100 each as the job ran over. We said no to that. He also asked for $100 more to cover paint as the job took more than he expected. We did pay that. Since my daughter was arriving the next day, we did not have them come back the rest of August. during August, because the cabinetry was not properly sanded and primed, and the paint began to yellow and peel off. We noticed that the line at the top of the walls was irregular and uneven. Doors were not painted on both sides, some doors were not painted at all, they did not paint all the door frames, window sills, or behind the toilets. One door was damaged and repaired with a filler which is yellowing, wall paint is on baseboards and on some floors, and three pairs of pants hanging in a closet downstairs are damaged with paint overspray. There is paint on the staircase wood. Promises were made through September and October to repair and finish the painting, but Sean said he wanted to do the work on his timetable, not ours. He scheduled several times and then cancelled. He finally said he would come back "after the rains started and he did not have other work." We contracted another company in November and had the cabinetry redone. We have not yet redone the rest of the work. We have filed a complaint with the California State Contractor's Licensing Board.

Response from StraightEdge Painting
The CSLB (contractor state license board) has found in favor of the contractor. This is because the homeowner did not allow the company to come back to fix the work in accordance with the original agreement. Had the homeowners allowed the company to fix their work they never would have been upset. The reason they are upset is that they went out and hired another contractor who overcharged them for the remaining touch-ups without considering the fact that the company would not want to pay local competition to complete the job they had already agreed to finish. The company did in fact offer a settlement of $1395.00 which is the amount it would have cost them to fix the work they had agreed to. The homeowner did not accept this agreement and that is why you have received a complaint. Straight Edge Painting has no other complaints out of over 200 clients over the last few years. Thank you for considering us to paint your home.
