Since customer satisfaction is the key to repeat business, we work with our clients to get the job done to their specifications. • The Current Solution Electrical is owned and operated by Davis resident Dennis Allen. While working in the retail sector for ten years as an employee of The Home Depot, Dennis earned his apprenticeship certification in Electrical Technology in 1996. In 2000, he left Home Depot to start Service by Dennis, a journeyman electrical service & repair company. By early 2004, Dennis became a state licensed C-10 Electrical Contractor. The company name permanently changed to The Current Solution to reflect the change in license status. • Dennis applies ten years of field experience as well as his formal education to each and every job. When you hire The Current Solution, you get Dennis' personal skill and expertise, not that of an hourly employee or subcontractor. • We provide friendly, on-time service and free estimates. We charge either a flat rate for a job, quoted prior to work beginning, or an hourly rate plus materials for service calls. Either way you are charged labor and materials only, no travel time or fees for estimates. We ensure your job is in compliance with local City, County and National Electric Codes and we work directly with the building department to permit your job. We also perform all of the necessary load calculations. You simply pay the applicable permit fees.

Dennis has been our go to guy for all things electrical. He is always prompt, honest, reasonable and professional. He has worked on two houses for us over the course of 10 years, doing everything from fixture replacement to crative wiring in rooms that didn't have access, to installing more complex transfer switches. We've always been happy with his work.

Both the microwave line and one of the ceiling fan installs involved some creative thinking, given the limitations of this smaller, older home. How he figured out how to power a ceiling fan in a large family room with very limited attic space was remarkable to me. However, he easily determined the best ways to complete the tasks in quite reasonable times, easily passing inspections. In addition, he is so easy to work with. I enjoyed his explanations of how he was going to proceed and what we could expect. A very competent professional and personable as well. No question I would use him again and will refer him to family and friends in the area.
Description of Work: Dennis contacted me within 24 hours of my call. I needed advice and estimate on possible panel upgrade as well as ceiling fans inside the house and a dedicated microwave circuit for our kitchen remodel. He gave me a very complete analysis of panel options, including not upgrading at all, indicating that our remodel would not overtax current panel. I was impressed with the option to stay with current panel, since other electricians told me only about cost of upgrading. He ended up doing the microwave dedicated line and three ceiling fans, all within budget and in a timely manner.

Expressed resentment that I wanted him to do circuit box only, and we would do the simple wiring from there. I guess he felt entitled to cherry pick the whole job, and unfortunately, I didn't appreciate the degree of his anger. He cut wires ludicrously short stumps, deliberately sabotaging the job, and then got frankly hostile when I commented on that. Anger management issues in a tradesman .... not good.

I hesitate to respond to this review because it was submitted under a fraudulent date. I did not work for [member name removed] in August 2014. As a matter of fact I worked for him in May of 2010. I provided him with an estimate to wire a hot tub. He said he couldn't afford to hire me, but did want me to complete the wiring from the disconnect to the panel, which I did. [member name removed] then informed me he would be hiring an unlicensed person to complete the remainder of the work. He asked if I would "walk her through" how to do it. I declined because, as a contractor, it's my belief that it is not in a homeowner's best interest to hire an unlicensed person to complete complicated electrical work. After I declined, [member name removed] became very heated and he phoned the police to say I sabotaged his job, which is not true. It was his attempt to try to scare me into helping him. The police did not find any grounds for his accusations. I amended the City of Davis permit to only cover the portion of the work I completed, to protect my license and bond from a claim if there was subsequently negligent work by the unlicensed individual. Within a few day, I began to receive calls and messages from [member name removed] unlicensed person asking me to instruct her how to do the remainder of the work that I estimated originally. I declined. Since that day [member name removed] has gone to Yelp, Google, Angie's list, etc. and wrote slanderous, untrue reviews of my business. He is also bad mouthing me to other contractors. On this review he put a fraudulent date. This review was written over four years after I worked for him. If he is willing to lie about the date of the job, in my opinion he loses his credibility altogether. The City of Davis inspector signed off on the permit for my work and verified it complied with Davis and National Electric Code. I stand by my work and the the principles by which I've run my business for almost 15 years. My other reviews speak for themselves.

Description of Work: Current Solutions is a perfect name for this company because of the innovative electrical problem solving Dennis, its owner does. Over the past 6 or 7 years, I've been very happy with the costs and especially happy with how well he has fixed the electrical problems at my properties. |For example, what I needed this last time was not commercially available so Dennis made it. He created two cost efficient LED porch lights that are connected to the inside duplex circuitry. He also drilled a hole in the fixtures to hook up a photo sensor to them so they would come on only at night when it gets dark outside. The price included the new light fixtures, attachment of independent photosensors, and installation of the light fixtures. They work really well! Dennis is very knowledgable about everything electrical, even very old electrical panels which will be my next project for him. |

Dennis was kind enough to take my wife and I through the basics of electrical wiring and what was causing the problem. So he not only fixed the problem but gave us a good lesson in how our electrical works and the state of our equipment. He came out promptly. The service took place on a holiday, which added to the cost of the service. While there may be some gripes about the extra $100 for service on a holiday, it's hard to find anyone who will work for free on holidays. Overall, I trust Dennis and would certainly call him again for any future electrical needs.
Description of Work: Dennis came out to our house on the morning of the 4th of July to diagnose an electrical issue we believed that we were having. He examined the electrical box and made a few adjustments to the connections. The service did not involve the purchase of any new equipment or replacement of old equipment.

Dennis responded quickly to my call and was able to come out much faster than expected, since he is local to Davis. I wanted an electrian for this job because I was concerned about switching out a ceiling fan w/ light operated by two switches, to a simple light with only one switch. The exterior lights were easier, but priced accordingly. He was very genial and completed all the work quickly and to my satisfaction. His prices were extremely reasonable.

Very well. He did not charge me extra for the "trip charge", being local. He did not charge me for time, only for the quoted price of the job to be done, calculated in advance. He seemed very honest and genuine, and stated that he valued his reputation on Angie's list more than getting the most amount of money for the job, because that is what drives repeat business. His charge was most fair. I only gave him a B in quality, simply because his clean-up wasn't completely thorough. But that was something I could handle myself!
Description of Work: Installation of 24 owner-supplied retrofit LED can lights whole house. Replacement of 3 owner-supplied vanity fixtures in master bathroom.

The tenants were very happy with him because they felt that he went in and found the problem right away and fixed it right away. I spent around $75 or $80 on that service. I thought that their pricing was reasonable. I would definitely call him back for electrical problems.

Got a call back the next day from the owner to schedule a prompt bid for the work. Current Solutions worked with us to make sure there was no disruption to the school schedule. The work done was excellent and we will happily use them again for any work needed in the future.
Description of Work: 3 GFCI outlets were installed. 1 GFCI was repaired. Breaker box was brought up to code as well as a new outlet was installed to replace a poorly laid out extension cord used at the preschool to plug in a copy machine.
