Greg is pleasant, cheerful, and skillful. He got back to me though he found me difficult to reach. He worked with me to make the projected tree trim fit my budget. Right after I accepted the estimate, he pulled out his pole saw and cut a branch drooping over the sidewalk; bless him for taking care of that safety concern immediately, at his own initiative. Greg tried repeatedly to fit me in his busy calendar, but a neighbor trimmed other low branches on the tree in the interim. So I told Greg that he didn't have to come for that job, though he was still welcome to if he wanted to. I called him a few weeks later for another job. He made an appointment to look at the tree. After he didn't show up, I called. He said he had arrived late, in the evening, so didn't knock on the door but got a pretty good look at the tree. I acquiesced to his plan and we scheduled a date for the work, but he didn't show up. That time I didn't call back.
Description of Work: Trimmed a tree branch.

Description of Work: I didn't use either of the two services you recommended. I used the services of another company in Davis because I needed the small tree removed right away and this company came the same day I called and the price was reasonable. Thank you.

Called several places before getting a reasonable price to trim three trees in my front yard. Greg is a very honest on his estimate and I will pass the word to friends and neighbors who need trimming done. The 2 guys got things done quickly but made sure I was satisfied before chipping all the branches and leaving. I was satisfied my trees look great!
Description of Work: Three trees trimmed in front yard, 2 flowering plums and a fruitless pear.

I saw Budget Tree Service's guys working across the street and asked them over to give me an estimate to remove my approximately 90 foot redwood tree which was planted way too close to my house by a former owner some years ago. I bought the home last fall knowing that this tree removal had to be factored in twhen making my purchase offer. If I were to be a responsible owner I was sure it had to go. Internet research confirmed that redwoods should not be closer than 20 feet to structures. This tree was maybe six feet away from the side of the house! It was beautiful but it kept the side yard and a bedroom too dark and would soon be damaging my sidewalk then the house. Yikes. Actually the plumbing in line with the tree's location already is problematic. So some damage has probably already been done. Josh, Greg Smith's nephew, came first to give me an estimate and see what else I wanted done. We worked out a price of $3,000 to remove the two trees and the dead walnut tree. But wait. I was entitled to a senior discount. Sometimes it is great to be so old! Plus I could use my Scotland debit card to pay for the job. Handy since Wells Fargo Bank won't transfer my money over here for me. Boo - to Wells Fargo Bank. Cheers to Budget Tree Service. The work took four guys and two long days to complete. It was amazing to watch them work in such a narrow area to remove such a giant tree. They had to remove the side wing fencing and the gate. My neighbor Susie was fantastic. She was losing her beloved shade but she still let the guys plant their equipment in her driveway to get the crane like hoisting device back there. She was still very pleasant after some errant redwood branches caused her newly planted begonias havoc. I had nothing to lose on my side but fencing because the redwood created such shade nothing much could grow. Josh was the masterful tree cutter having learned his trade from his Uncle Greg Smith, the company boss. Greg too was here working pretty much full time both days which speaks volumes for the company in my mind. I hope I have Josh's name correct. First they removed the top and all the redwood's limbs. Then they cut the tree in many sections from the top down to the base. The two other guys (and I think one of them was named Josh as well) generally stayed on the ground most of the time keeping things clear enough to work around and loading their truck. They also cleared ivy and grapes and saplings from on and around the dead walnut. I wasn't watching when either the palm or the walnut went down. When it came to the redwood trunk I was watching. I saw that it took all four men to roll the largest trunk chunks up the ramps and into the truck. Heavy suckers. I requested a slice for a garden table which they cut for me and the boss took four sections for b-i-g seats around his fire pit. The balance went to a bio-mass firm to be converted to energy. It was noisy and dusty and sawdust is still everywhere but it was artistry and exciting and enjoyable all in one. The guys were all very polite, seemed to work great together and really good to be around. Just decent, good, honest and hard working people making a living in a tough industry. Made me really proud to be living back here in the USA again. Three problems came up during the course of the two days. One is that they couldn't get the stump grinder to the back of my house to remove the base of the walnut tree stump. The walnut tree was covered from seven feet above ground down to the base with decomposing tree matter and earth. They may have thought they cut the stump lower to the ground than they actually did . The tree was completely entwined with vines of grape, ivy, with matter surrounding the tree's base. I didn't even know until Josh pointed out to me that the entire living structure was supported by one old dead walnut tree. After clearing the trunk, junk and gunk, it is still sticking out too high above the ground. Yet I am confident Greg will come back and cut it lower to the ground when I call him. The second issue was damage to my neighbors plants but she told me that Greg graciously took care of that with her directly and she was entirely satisfied. The third: well they went too far in editing the vines and saplings surrounding the walnut tree . The cut plumb through the old grapevine that the grape arbor was built to support. They were supposed to be selective! Bummer. So there it is. Budget Tree Service owned by Greg Smith did a fantastic job for me at a very reasonable price for what the job entailed. I lost my reason for having a grape arbor but I gained a great experience, got to know my neighbor better, met four great guys, gained more light in my house, diminished potential house problems in future and have enough "mulch" to last for a couple years at least. A really positive experience and I highly recommend this company to any and all who have trees to be removed in tight quarters. But watch out for your grape vines! They wield fast and furious chain saws.
Description of Work: Budget Tree Service removed a palm tree, a redwood tree and what was left of a walnut tree plus ground out the stumps of both the palm and redwood.
