THUMBS (WAY) DOWN: BLAKE's HVAC Used to use their work a lot, to support local business. Unfortunately, their practices now are too subpar now to be trusted with something as important as HVAC- in short, they install/use suboptimal equipment, which gets them a lot of site visit charges but is frustrating as heck for the customer. Example: they replaced a 'faulty' HVAC thermostat w/ a new one (5-yr warranty) in late 2020 at $193 total cost. <4 yrs later, the new thermostat doesn't work (Blake is asking for another $100 to 'site visit' and who knows how much to fix this problem or create new ones) while the one they replaced just needed batteries and is now working. Better yet- the tech and secretary in the office laughed off the whole thing: "it worked for 4 years, what's your problem?" It didn't bother them that instead of putting batteries into an existing thermostat that worked, their tech charged $193 to put in a new thermostat that stopped working >1yr short of warranty. That tells me that this wasn't just one tech; it's the whole business model.

Same day service. The tech knew the symptoms and diagnosed over the phone. He knew his stuff and made repairs quickly. Found a minor short and repaired that too. Very pleased.

It went very well. I called Blake's at 8:30 a.m., and the man arrived at 9 a.m. He analyzed the problem, gave me the price, discussed the problem of repair vs replacement, and when I decided on repair he did it. He finished at noon.

Blake's quoted a price that was half of what the Costco contracted company quoted. They were on time, efficient, and cleaned up after themselves. The new unit works well. I have had Blake's do a number of service calls on the older unit, and have always been impressed with their professionalism.

The quality of their work & their responsiveness. They come out and do a good job and are very honest. They don't replace something if it doesn't need to be replaced. Very knowledgeable.

Fast scheduling during the hot summer and great service. Quickly identified the problem and was able to make the repairs immediately as they carried the parts in the van.

When he came over and gave us an estimate, he recommended about what would be right for our kind of home. We actually had Blake himself come into our house. He's the owner and he showed us a few things and recommended one that best fit our house and what we could afford. He was right and it worked out well. I think they're about the same in price as everyone else. There was nothing they did wrong, they did a nice job. The guys who came out and did the installation, they were kind of fun. When we had questions, they knew the answers.

He knew what was wrong, took the time to explain it, had the part on his truck and replaced it. No muss. No fuss.

I had to do a repair for my air conditioner. I have and older air conditioning unit and while they have advised updating it they have never been unwilling to do repairs where as more companies might be pushy to upgrade. So I appreciated that.

A diffferent HVAC company had failed to find a refrigerant leak. They came within two days in the middle of a heat wave and widespread air conditioner failures. They diagnosed the problem, and were willing to fix it. I opted to replace the very old equipment. They didn't pressure me to do the replacement, and even talked me out of buying the most expensive HVAC option. The installation was quick and problem-free.

Blake's conducted seasonal service checks of our house's two HVAC systems and replaced a faulty thermostat. They are timely, professional and have excellent technical skills. They aways remember to call to schedule seasonal check ups if we haven't already done so. Really responsive and helpful. They have responded quickly when our son's a/c failed during a heat wave and repaired the unit that evening after a mid-day call. This was especially appreciated as their infant daughter was in the house Likewise, they have responded rapidly to A/C problems with our house during hot days when demand for their services is extremely high. Will continue to use Blake's for our HVAC and gutter needs.

Blake's heating and air was very helpful and professional. We were able to get a new heater and air conditioner with a dual zone system for our two-story house. We were able to get everything done very fast as we got a quote on a Thursday, signed the contract on Friday, and they came and installed on a Monday. They were very detail-oriented and put plastic tarps down so that our carpet would stay clean. Everything went very well. GREAT Davis Business!

Over the 4th of July, in the 110 degree weather, we discovered our air conditioners in our recently purchased home were completely defunct. We received a $600 bill from PGand E... they were running constantly... and one started leaking though the ceiling of the house. I called the home warranty company, whose technician found the most obvious problem and left. Blake's did some work for us when we moved in (HVAC duct cleaning and repaired ducts), so I called them. Their technician, Dustin, spent a lot of time up in the attic. He found the secondary problems... the leaking, etc., but also found the primary cause. The furnaces that the previous homeowner's replaced were installed wrong (2 ton furnace hooked up to 5 ton a/c and vice versa). This was causing all the condensation and blowing open our ducts, so we were cooling the attic. Dustin did a temporary fix on the unit so it would stop leaking water through the ceiling, then took the information needed to get a quote for system replacement. The home warranty company wanted to do a creative and quot;fixand quot; and keep the 25 year old units. We asked for a cash out. Blakes quote came in about $2,000 less than Greiner. Mark explained why it didn't make sense to get a super-high efficiency system... the newer furnaces were very high efficiency and didn't need replacement - they just needed correct installation. He said he wouldn't recommend buying a whole new system (financially) and he couldn't guarantee a higher SEER rating with mismatched equipment. He said a 13 SEER would be a big upgrade from our old units and should cut our bill significantly. He was right... our bill is now 1/3 of what it was... down to about $200. Blakes came to do the install on time and did a great job. Their guys got to work and finished in one day (our other quotes thought it was a 2 day job). Everything is working properly and we feel much better knowing it isn't up in the attic leaking. After our experience with the ceiling leak, Mark had the guys fabricate big pans that sit under the whole unit... so we shouldn't have to deal with that problem again :)

It went very well. Their estimate was $1500.00 less than Greiner. They didn't try to pressure me or rush my decision. Blake's is very professional and trustworthy.

On one of the hottest days of the year, I was able to get an afternoon appointment. I was quoted a service call fee. Mark Gidding, the Service Technician, called about 1/2 hour ahead of time to confirm he would arrive at the designated appointment time. Mark clearly knew his business as he quickly and methodically evaluated the issue and made the repairs. As we talked during the repair he also educated me about how to best utilize the A/C unit to keep the house cool yet use less power. The service was superb and the cost fair.I would use this company in the future and highly recommend Mark Gidding by name.

Their price was considerably more reasonable than the other companies we contacted, and they did a great job. The technicians were quick and professional, and the new system works fine.

I got great service and they went above and beyond. He gave us a fair deal and actually did some extra work for us and he didn't charge us an arm and a leg for it. They will try to get out to you as soon as possible. They handled all the paperwork for the permits so they made it very simple.

They are clean, neat, efficient and courteous. They do amazing amazing work. They are like a symphony. Everyone comes in and does their work and leaves. They are respectful of your home and you as a client.

They were really good. They have a reasonable price. They checked everything. They explained things to me very well.

She uses them for the duct cleaning as well. I was there when the work was done. They are very reputable and they do a great job. They know what they are talking about. They get the job done and they are responsive. They were very respectful and they gave us some advice. It was a very responsible thing and we are going take their advice.

I was extremely impressed that the repair person wasn't trying to sell extra parts or service, but gave us the information and let us decide without pressure. He even gave me unsolicited information on simple work I could do on my own. I worried about mentioning this last item in case it could get him in trouble for not "upselling" us, but he did not seem to be under any pressure to do so. Maybe the folks at Blake's recognize they'll profit more in the long run from repeat business and referrals than from a one-time rip-off or overselling of services. I found Blake's using Angie's List, and their high rating is well-deserved. Not only would I use Blake's again, I would recommend them.

It's a local agency here. Blake himself came out and did a walk down and an estimate. He headed to the estimate and there were no hidden costs. We got two other bids from people in Sacramento and they were both higher. He explained the whole process. I had already done research online and pretty much knew what kind of unit I wanted to get. He offered us two or three options as to the cost, energy efficiency and so forth for the kind of unit that I wanted to get replaced. He also explained the process of testing that they require for the heating and air-conditioning systems now. The job went off without a hitch. The unit has worked great. It has dropped our electricity costs by half. It's been a good investment.

We had Blake's come in to inspect our old HVAC unit, but we were also interested in discussing replacement as the old one was about 30 years old. They gave us a price on a replacement, and it was reasonable, around $5k-$6kI think. I made the offhand comment, we'd sure like to get rid of the unit on the roof with on in the attic. The Blake's guy immediately suggested a more expensive model that would fit in our attic. However, the new unit had an energy feature that qualified for a $1500 tax rebate plus about $200 in PGE discounts. The problem is that installation had to be complete before the end of the year. We signed on, and they came in the following Monday and finished everything in one day. This involved craning the old unit off the roof, adapting the old ducts, replacing a lot of old ducts that were in very bad shape, installing the new unit and an air-conditioning compressor in our side yard, making a temporary seal of the old ducts that passed through our root, and testing everything. They did a good job, they cleaned up the mess, the heater works great, and we have filed the PGE paperwork and are confident that we'll get the federal tax rebate.

I had a problem with my heater. The company that I normally used for the checkup of the heating system told me that it was a dangerous situation and that I had to replace the furnace. So, in the process of getting bids for the new furnace, I happened to talk to the owner of this company. He told me that he had received quite a few complaints about the other company. Apparently, they were telling the same thing that was told to me to their other customers as well. This way, they were making people buy new furnaces. He suggested that I contact the gas and electric company, which would come out and check my heating system for free. I did as I was suggested. The gas and electric company told me that there was nothing wrong with the furnace and that I could use it safely. I would have spent thousands of dollars replacing the furnace. I would highly recommend Blake’s Heating and Air Conditioning Service to others. He spent quite a bit of time with me on the phone for nothing. He could have said that he would come out and check the system, but he did not. He was very honest. The kind of service that he gave me has enabled me to give my vote of confidence to use this company’s service in the future. He was extremely helpful and willing to talk to me, even if it was the end of the day. He took the time and recommended a corrective action.
