never showed...took 3 hours off from work. Called at 4:15 and wanted to come next day. The other jobs were more money so I was put at the bottom and disrespected for my time. Never again Powell Electric. I'm no longer a customer and you've proven you dont care about customers just the almighty dollar....shame on you!

On the other hand, the work that I "have" hired Powel Electric to perform has always been accomplished very well -- just extraordinarily expensive.
Description of Work: I've used Powell Electric on previous occasions and appears even the simplest of tasks cost $800 to $1000 for 2 hours work. I have friends in construction who tell me $1000 (for other companies)will pay an entire day Level-of-effort. On Angie's List, an A+ company quoted $89 to install an electrical outlet. Powell Electric quoted $850 and charged $100 just for the quote. My outlet requirement was very simple. Add one electrical outlet (to the drywall) bridged from another outlet that was 12 to 18 inches away. Powell Electric's cost increased to $1100 to install the outlet if they have to drop wire from the ceiling (not route it any distance horizontally, just to drop it vertically).

He was very professional, very informative and worked fast. He even replaced another breaker button for free because he said it would be breaking soon. Everything was great but the price was on the expensive side.
Description of Work: He replaced the main breaker on the electrical panel box.

The company performed the job well. Other vendors who serviced our house commented on the installation being "by the book" i.e. a great job.

They charged $71.00 for a paid estimate. I believe they never really wanted to do the work, just make money off the estimate. An estimate of $9900.00 is 9 times what all 3 other estimates were from A rated companies. All other companies provided free estimates. I ended up getting the exact same work done for $1700.
Description of Work: Paid $71.00 for an estimate to replace electrical outlet and conduit to pool filter. They gave me an outrageous estimate of $9,900.00!!! Got 3 other estimates for the same work all in the range of $1500 to $1900 and those estimates were free of charge.

Powell Electric then said the problem was, that all the outlets and light switches HAD to be replaced, because of loose "hot" wires. The price to fix was over $3,000.00. I thought that was way too much, so I called another electrician, that came out the next day, and just replaced ONE, burned out 15 amp breaker. He charged &60.00, and the problem was fixed in 15 minutes.
Description of Work: Powell Electric came out because of lights flickering and outlets not working in 1/2 of our house. They charged us $71.00 to inspect the system and then give us a bid on the repairs.

His bid was astronomical for the work he said we needed, which was to restore power and replace a conduit. He wanted to remove the fixtures and then to reinstall all of them, after he replaced the line. His bid was $1290.00!! So we, of course, said No and waited till our regular electrician (Marguerite Electric) was available. They did the whole job for under $200.00.
Description of Work: Because our regular electricialn was not available we called Powell Electric. Luis provided us with an estimate for electrical service on our drive way and charged us $99. just do do that.

Very well.
Description of Work: They installed an outlet on the wall above the mantle so I could connect my TV and other components. The servicemen had to go up to the attic and run the wire down from there.

They did a very good job. Everything was handled very professionally. They covered all of the furniture and carpeting. They took the time to clean up after themselves. The price seemed to be a little high, however I think that it was worth it for a licensed, bonded, insured contractor to come out and do the work.

Brought in another electrician who went straight for the fixture, discovered two crossed wires, straightened them out and insulated them from each other. Problem solved. I'll never use these guys again.
Description of Work: Had a short in my kitchen. Pretty sure it was the ceiling light fixture. He refused to get up there and take off the fixture to inspect the wiring. Instead, he took of the switch faceplate, causing a crack in the paint in the process, fiddled a bit and that was it. Again, I asked him to look at the light. Wouldn't do it. Short problems continued.

The work they did was good but the finished work was second rate. This was the work on the house after installing the new meter. It was wood siding that they had to pull off to get the meter in. There was one piece of wood that they didn't mill down. The crew was clean. They kept the work organized and even simplified some things. They did send some follow up to see how the work went. They were on time. They did a fine job of accommodating our requests.
Description of Work: They replaced most of the electric switches in the house, they also redid some electrical work and then put in a new panel.

The people who came out were entirely professional and very friendly. They came out on time. I had no problem with the technicians. It was a very expensive service. They are a very reputable company that is insured and bonded. Now after joining Angie's List, I may not have called them because of the price. They did cut a fence because it was not according to code, but now we have to replace the fence. A representative was at the home at the time of work so they should have asked first before taking such a bold move by cutting the fence, but didn't ask for permission.
Description of Work: There was a circuit breaker box that was broken, causing shorts and a lot of other problems.
