Byron, took on a relatively small job and dirty job to completely refurbish my sun porch. The sun porch was filthy and stained from years of smoking residue and neglect - disgusting. The walls were dirt stained, chipped and cracked, the aluminum on the windows and slider was stained with brown and yellow nicotine -what a mess! Byron cleaned the aluminum, and painted the room from top to bottom and installed a ceiling fan. Today the sun porch is beautiful and livable thanks to Byron. Great job completed in a day and a half. I definitely recommend him and will use his services again. Ernie

I'd used Byron maybe 2 years ago. He did a great job installing a range hood -- opening the wall, connecting the electric, and matching the wall paint [Swiss mocha -- I know, a VERY common housepaint, as other contractors I've used have pointed out]. But he didn't do a very good job installing a dishwasher, neglecting to connect the air gap [or even ask about it]. At that time I asked him for a written and detailed quote for a new door installation in my garage. He became very evasive and started talking about how busy he is right now and can't work on something like that. I thought maybe this was a communication problem and hoped he was better now. Wrong! It was pretty bizarre when I called him a few days ago. I told him I was interested in an estimate for 3 jobs. Without asking what the jobs were, he actually said he only does estimates on the weekends -- then said actually, only on Sundays! I was a bit unbelieving, then just said, "oh" and hung up. I can't imagine doing business with someone like this -- very unprofessional -- especially compared to 2 other contractors who have spoken to me and visited the site . My phone number had changed since I saw him a while ago so he could not have recognized my phone number. Maybe he had a bad day; maybe he recognized my voice and decided he didn't want anything to do with someone who would insist on details. Doubtful, but communication remains a problem. Avoid.

The plan proposed and the pricing was accurate. As the work progressed Byron asked questions about which alternatives we would prefer. The work is very professional and was done on time and on budget. They were great cleaning up and in general taking care of the work.

I already explained it above. Everything worked out very well. He and his helper worked perfectly to my desire.
Description of Work: Byron Gonzalez patched a hole in my dining room ceiling, and filled it with the same kind of "cottage cheese" surrounding it. He also replaced some warped floorboards with sturdy plywood (my choice). He and his helper had to empty a large cabinet, move it, pull back the carpet, etc. When he was finished, everything was back in place as before and I am pleased with his work.

Very professional on both communication and his workmanship. I so far had my tilted wooden fence and almost-falling-over ivy covered heavy backyard fence fixed by Byron. No contractor specializing in the yard fence would take the job, because the job was "too small", although it was a 8ft tall and 30ft wide fence with years and years of ivy growth tangled up, which tilted down and was almost falling down into my neighbor's property. It was too heavy for human hands to lift up. Byron showed up on time to walk through and write up an estimate (which he promptly e-mailed me that night as professional would), explained how he would approach it, discussed and took my wish into consideration, again showed up on time on the day he said he would start the work, and got the job done very efficiently with beautiful results. He was very polite throughout the process and remained very professional with his manner. Will definitely hire him for all other works needing to be done around my old house.
Description of Work: Fixed the wooden fence and doors that were stuck due to wood expanding and shifting. Also lifted and secured the heavy chain-link fence which was almost falling down due to some tree branches falling down on it.

AWFUL! It is not possible to have a business relationship with someone who has no ethics. Very bad karma. ADDENDUM: The person who actually did the job charged me $90, did excellent work and completed in less than 1.5 hrs.
Description of Work: I had a little difficulty locating this provider - when I contacted Byron Gonzalez in August 2012 the business name was Residential and Commercial Handyman Services. For any member trying to locate an honest, ethical artisan, this is definitely NOT the person to call. I called Byron to get a ballpark of what the price would be to put up 2 drapery rods of 10' each on plaster walls in my son's downtown apartment. The job was no more complicated or detailed than that. When I first talked to Byron he was very personable, stated he understood the job but couldn't give me an exact price but assured me that his charges would be "reasonable" -his word. I had already gotten estimates from 8-10 other handymen and the HIGHEST was $225 - that quote being from a "contractor" who usually does much larger jobs (remodels, redesign, etc). Due to scheduling difficulties I had not been able to set appointment with the $225 and under group (several were booked until end of September). So, believed that $225 would be a ceiling price and a price that was stated to be "reasonable" would certainly fall under $225. I do realize it was somewhat of a gamble to set up the appointment without having a more firm idea of price. The appointment was for 10a on Saturday 9/1/12 (the start of Labor Day Weekend). On Friday afternoon at 3p, less than 24 hours before the appointment time, I received an email from Byron with the estimate he had specifically stated he was unable to provide. That price? $375. Not a typo. $375 to put up 2 drapery rods. It appeared that with the long, holiday weekend at hand, it was much less appealing for Byron to keep the appointment we had made for 9/1. Or maybe it was another, much larger job that came up. Solution? Send an "estimate" for an absurd price which would prompt the customer to cancel. Worst case scenario would be to collect 3 times the usual charge if he actually had to keep the appointment. Win-win situation for the business. I had no choice but to cancel.

I have nothing but praise for Byron and his handyman services. He can do it all!
Description of Work: My kitchen was torn apart by a remediation company who cleaned a mold problem found during the inspection of our new home. The company wasn't very careful in their work so I opted not to use their restoration services. The kitchen was literally left in pieces, including opened walls, removed kitchen tile, damaged, lighting, plumbing undone, and open drywall and removed framing. Byron Gonzalez gave me an estimate to completely restore the kitchen and he and this team were able to put my kitchen back together in record time. The quality of his work is exceptional. His attention to detail is remarkable. A few issues were discovered along the way and Byron always checked with me before proceeding to fix any newly discovered problems. His work ethic is excellent and he made suggestions that were needed and not just for the sake of adding more work to be billed. The experience was exceptional. In fact, I have already hired him for another job!

Excellent experience. No complaints whatsoever.
Description of Work: Byron repaired a door jamb damaged during a burglary, replaced part of our exterior wood fence that was falling over, and replaced trim in a couple of rooms in our home. I asked him to replace plumbing under a sink, and after inspecting it, he informed me that the repair was not needed. His work ethic is exceptional as is his quality of work. He is also professional and a nice person. My husband and I were very happy with the work. Highly recommend!

Byron, returned my call within 10 minutes and came out to inspect and give me a price and date and time he could come out and do the job. He was very punctual and arrived as stated. the work to be performed is in a two story duplex and consisted fo the following: 1. Install 2-wall units, 2-towel racks and 1-toielt in upstairs duplex. 2. Install 2-wall units and 1-toielt in downstairs duplex. The work was completed in about 5 hours with a cost of $520.00 and took about 5hrs. That's $104.00 per hr. and the job looks GR8. I will use Byron again.

I had a good experience. The actual cost was $250, but I gave him $50 tip. He was very thorough and was a very meticulous worker. I liked his cleanliness and workmanship. He came prepared with the tools that he needed. The quality of the work is good. He did over and above what we asked. He checked hinges and repaired some though I didn't ask him to. He took care of all our cabinets on his own. He is conscientious, highly competent and he is proactive. He cares about doing quality work. He is reasonably priced. I am considering using him as I am thinking of doing some additional work.

Byron was prompt meeting me at the agreed time. After inspecting the stove fan duct together, we discovered a dead bird (yikes!) after removing the fan cover, and he stressed the importance of installing a vent guard to the roof exhaust to prevent any birds or rodents from gaining entrance from the roof. After his final price quote was even able to prioritize the job due to a move-in deadline for new tenants at the end of the week. He completed the agreed tasks in a few hours, and even waited for me to come by after work to do a final inspection of his repairs. Bryon is extremely friendly, courteous and conscientious when it comes to his work. I was very happy with the overall work and service level that he provided, and will solicit his services again.
Description of Work: To repair a misaligned stove exhaust fan duct, along with installing an A/C filter and 2 smoke alarms.
Byron came to my house to go over 10 projects on my list, and few days later, he emailed me an estimate which i thought was very reasonable. He started 6/20 and finished everything in four days, and what a perfect work he did! For example, in master bedroom, he removed old carpet and worked on oak floor for 2 days, sanding, buffing, and varnishing and refinished, and it';s absolutely beautiful!!. Byron is very pleasant and professional. He gave me a few very good suggestions which i agreed and appreciated. He was wonderful to this old lady who lives alone and i miss him. Guess i have to find more work for him.
Description of Work: 1. remove window mount ac unit 2. spot paint on entry steps 3. remove oil spots from driveway 4. fix northside screen vent 5. fix wall cracks around the house 6. adjust kitchen drawers 7. install front door weather seals 8. replace front door dead bolt 9. remove carpet from bedroom 10. sand buffing bedroom floor (apply 2 coats of clear semi gross)

We wanted him to convert a large old fashion linen closet into a regular closet with cherrywood cabinet doors. Unfortunately when I asked him to bring references and photos of his of carpentry work he didn't show up for the appointment. He finally sent me an email that said he did not work like that. He said his former clients just trusted that he could do the job. Even though he has great ratings I am not that trusting. For all I know the comments could be from his relatives. If a craftsman tells me he can make a cabinet he should at least have one photo to prove it. It was very unprofessional for him not to show up for an appointment. He could have called beforehand.

. In some areas he took care of it more than I expected. I was very happy with him. There was one appliance, the dish washer he installed and there was a little bit of a problem there. The problem was, the dish washer has an air gap between the external air and the air released from the excess soap and water. He neglected even to ask about it and installed it without it. But he installed the kitchen ventilation fan over the stove and he did an outstanding job of that. I would use him in the future but I need to be more specific with him.

He showed up on time and is very polite. I would recommend him to others as well as use him again in the future.
Description of Work: I had a back fence made of wood that was about to fall apart. He stabilized it and repainted it. he had to replace all the post and sink them in concrete. It wasn't an easy job. I also had a very old shelving unit that needed to be sanded, varnished and installed. He also helped me in the house with smaller jobs like re installing a set of hooks for clothing that had been improperly installed. He also some wall decorations such as a mirror and paintings.
This is an initial report on work done to date - there is more work to be done. Byron is excellent. Not only is he reliable and has excellent character, he is responsive and good at what he does, takes pride in his work, and is very careful to ensure there is no damage/impact from his work. I'll submit an update after more of the scheduled work is completed. I am overdue on updating this review. My initial report was spot on for the remainder of the services Byron performed. I unreservedly recommend him to anyone needing a conscientious and honest person to do almost anything in their home.
Description of Work: The project started out as some small minor jobs, and after seeing the professionalism that Byron exhibited in every task, and his character, I was adding projects to the list faster than Byron could get them done. The projects in order done, included the following: - replace water line to refrigerator and lower floor molding to better cover the line - install new washing machine - construct a replacement (original that I built - broke) an outdoor bench planter with stout Redwood boards - replace a water heater - paint most of the interior of the house (including re-doing sections my son had attempted) - including doing an expert job of patching many 'rough' spots - replaced two closet folding doors with real doors and a proper frame - replaced a fan in the master bath - repaired cracks in the wall and ceiling of the master bedroom. Byron didn't merely patch -- he determined the reason for the crack was unstable joists - so he gained access and bound them together so the cracks would not reappear in the ceiling! - remove wood and linoleum floor - and install bamboo flooring in two room - remove old cabinets and built in desk in office and refinish office area, including installing new lights and power outlets
