When first installed the work looked great. It took longer to than expected. But it wasn't until after 8 months did we notice that the flooring was cupping. Which I came to find out was due to poor installation. I had 4 hardwood floor installers and one that did my sisters and they said the same thing. They did not acclimate the wood or lay any moisture barrier onto the concrete prior to installation. Initially Pierre, the owner came to home to take a look and had a worker reduce some of the pressure by cutting a little of an expansion gap next to the sliding glass door. However that was not enough. He would not do anything to remedy the situation of the hardwood floors other than suggest that I install a new flooring and he would work with me on the price. That was not acceptable and we have attempted to contact him since. As of this date we have given up and are compiling information for a complaint to the contractor's board. As of August 2009 he did not have a valid contractor's license. I do not know if that status has changed.

If you do not want to be cheated and bullied, stay away from Newport Carpet & Tile, Inc., aka Discount Flooring. I had one of the most unpleasant experiences and I did a thorough remodeling of my apartment this summer. The company showed me one insulation and we signed a contract for that product. At the day of the installation, the crew came, removed the old carpet and started installing a different insulation. When we protested, the company started beating around the bush that the insulation we have ordered was discontinued, but eventually promised to find it. The following day, the company brought a totally different installation and started convincing us that it was better than the one we have ordered. Per our request, the sales representative and the owner promised to provide specifications of the new insulation to show us that the new product is at least of the same quality as the one we have agreed upon. Based on the promise, we accepted the new product. The company never provided the requested specifications. When we refused to pay until we receive the information, the owner became extremely rude and started threatening us. Eventually we negotiated a discount, but it cost us a lot of troubles. I will never use or recommend that company.
