The initial contact and work done by Robertson's seemed great. The employee was nice and seemed to take pride in his work (washing his truck and equipment). Even the "quality issue" was going well until they stopped talking to us. We just want this fixed and we can't work towards that until they open communications, again.
Description of Work: This is a letter we sent in October 2012 to Robertson's and cc'd the BBB : In February 2012, we had a contractor redo our 44’x19’ driveway from an old, multi-layed, cracked ashphalt to concrete. Our contractor highly recommended Robertson’s for the job and it looked wonderful. Within weeks, we noticed cracks in the concrete. Thinking that this was normal and would be minimal, we waited and watched. By August, we felt that the cracks were too many and several of them were much too big for our satisfaction. We had our contractor come to verify that the cracking was “not usual”. We contacted Robertson’s by phone and were told to make a “quality control” request, including pictures, which we did. After three weeks and two follow-up e-mails asking for status of the request, Tom, from Robertson’s, arrived with no warning on the morning of 20 September. Tom gave several reason he felt that Robertson’s was not responsible. We asked for and were assured that we would receive the information by e-mail as soon as he returned to the office. A week later, we sent a reminder e-mail for the information. As of today, we have not received any further response from Robertson’s. Copies of the e-mail trail are available if needed. Since we have not received the written response, we will summarize and dispute the issues as I understood them and, briefly, noted after meeting with Tom: - The cracking is not unusual – we have at least five major cracks that seem to be getting worse and, would guess, at least 100 “minor” cracks. For a product that is less then 1 year old, that is excessive. - The spacing of the “relief” seams is 14’ not 10’ – I have seen many driveways that have such spacing and more, with much less cracking. Many of the cracks seem to be going into the seams and right back out. - The “relief seam” is ½ inch deep instead of the “recommended” 1 inch – the seams were made with the industry stamping tool. Is this to say that all of these people are wrong? - The major cracking and “lifting” is because our contractor did not use rebar – we have photographic evidence that there is rebar. - The cracking is because the contractor did not make the driveway level – the driveway slopes as needed to keep water from pooling. - Driveways should have 3000 psi vs 2500 psi concrete (adding something about the size of the rocks) – since the concrete was delivered and poured into my driveway by a Robertson’s employee and I paid the Robertson’s employee directly; shouldn’t I have been told prior to the pour that I had the wrong cement? Tom assured us that all orders are recorded, so this may have been an order error; but, that does not negate the fact that Robertson’s should have told us before, during or after we paid them. None of the issues, we feel, absolve Robertson’s of responsibility. Due to the amount of “damage” in our new concrete driveway, we feel Robertson’s responsible, at least in part, for the dissatisfaction we ultimately are having with the final product. We are asking for open dialogue to resolve this matter to the customer’s satisfaction.
