Description of Work: I called Sunshine Electric (Roger Yost) based on their great reviews on Angie's List. We were having power surges throughout the house. Roger correctly diagnosed that it was a PG&E issue and to call them immediately. PG&E responded within the hour and corrected the problem (critters chewed through the line to our house). Roger came back after PG&E to repair the problems that resulted from surges.

Roger showed up on time and diagnosed the problem and installed a new breaker. While he was there I asked him if he could quote me on installing a new dedicated 20A circuit to run my power tools in the garage. He quoted me a very reasonable price for the replaced breaker and the new installation. He and his asisstant Andy were done in less than 15 minutes, They cleaned up everything and had I was on my way back to work before they knew I was gone! Thanks, Roger and Andy. Nice guys. Honest, quick and efficient.
Description of Work: Replaced an old breaker that had tripped and couldn't be reset. I also asked for another dedicated 20A breaker and outlet to be installed in the garage.

Repairs completed in a timely manner at a reasonable cost. Friendly and professional workers. Will do work with them again in the future.
Description of Work: Roger (owner) and Andrew (son) arrived in a timely manner. They were professional, diagnosed the problem, took electrical readings and scheduled a follow-up appointment. We set a preliminary date and time, but he was not sure of the equipment would be available. He said he would call me when he got parts and he called verifying parts were now in his truck. They met me a week later to install the parts. He combined the cost of the first call and repair call into a single bill. Services performed included diagnosis of problem (broken board on breaker box; testing loads on all circuits, evaluation of locations for addition circuits, if requested. Follow-up: dis-assembled and installed new parts. Tested circuits. Decided to not add circuits until sometime in future.

Roger came out and gave me estimates on a few different things. All were reasonable estimates, but taking things in order of importance I had him just install electricity for garage door openers in my detached garage. He arrived on time, quickly got to work, and was finished with the job in about an hour. I will be calling him back when I need more electrical work.

They quoted a fair price for an electrical reroute for a new water heater. Roger and his son arrived and they were knowledgeable, competent, and efficient. I had a couple of other squirrelly requests, which they adapted to quite nicely. The best was a wall socket that the owner 35 years ago used for a hot water pump to get the hot water to the end of this very long house. I could never find a tripped circuit breaker, but it never had any power. Roger was able to trace it all the way across the house without climbing in the attic. It was a hidden wall switch on the inside of the linen closet that the previous owner used to turn the water pump on. We never knew it was there and we must have flipped it off when we loaded linen into the closet. I would use them again, just to talk with them. They are very nice people to deal with.

The contractor arrived on site exactly when our meeting was set up to perform the estimate and the estimate was provided in a timely fashion. Once the agreement went into effect, the contractor arrived when they said they would, was professional and did the work in a timely fashion. They were very easy to work with and I will hire them again in the future.

Roger was punctual and professional. We wanted to change our terrible kitchen lighting from Bayonett type CFLs to screw-in type LED's Roger gave us several options on how this could be done. We agreed on a plan and a price and within a few days he came over to do the work. Didn't take long, and we now have beautiful, functional working LED's in our kitchen!

I had Roger and his son Andrew from Sunshine Electric work on two outdoor 120 volt lighting problems and re-wire a non-functioning timer on a ceiling fan in our living room. The first two issues were pretty basic - found a bad connection in a prior repair to the wire leading to the swimming pool light. And in the living room, they removed an old ceiling fan timer that had quit working years ago and rewired the fan switch so it would work without the timer. First two problems solved in a little more than an hour. The last one was more interesting and took several hours over the course of a week. I had day/night photo sensor and two driveway lights on lampposts installed about a year ago by a landscaping contractor. He tied in to the existing line for a street address light we have mounted on a post in our front yard. The line leading to the light has a GFCI installed in it since it is located outside. When the rains came last winter, the GFCI tripped and wouldn't reset until the ground dried out a bit. It would reset for a few days, then trip. After a while, it wouldn't reset for more than a few hours. There was obviously a break in a wire somewhere... And I didn't want to mess with it, so I called Sunshine Electric after seeing some good reviews on Angie's List. Roger and Andrew showed-up, and methodically began testing the lamppost wiring that the landscape contractor had installed, one by one, in order to find out which run had the break in it. They had to leave after each test, because it took a few hours for the GFCI to trip and reveal where the problem was or wasn't. I wasn't in a big rush to get the lights working again, and they didn't mind coming by three or four times on separate days to troubleshoot and fix the problem. After several hours over the course of a week they discovered the problem was a nick in the insulation of one of the lamppost light wires, about 4" from tie-in point. In the end, they ran new wire to one of my lampposts, removed and replaced most of what turned out to be a very sub-standard electrical job the year before and made sure things were working absolutely perfect. I am very pleased with their work, and with what they charged - just a little over $500. I will definitely use them again and refer them to others.

We hadn't moved into our house yet and wanted to get coax pulled into the office so it would be ready for me to use as soon as we moved in. They were very professional and punctual. They worked quickly, getting the cable pulled, once they figured out which one to tap into. The only issue I had which was solved by Comcast, was that one of the fittings they installed on the new coax cable had a short from the inner core to the outer sheath, leaving the office coax outlet temporarily unusable. If Comcast hadn't needed to come out anyway the day after we moved in, I would have called Roger back and asked him to fix the problem. When he installed the cable, he did tell me that if I had any problems to give him a call and he would come back out and fix it. If Cast hadn't been out, I would have taken him up on this.
Description of Work: Roger and his son ran coax cable for our home office. They ran a splitter off the coax in the attic and pulled a cable down into the wall of the office, installing a junction box and wall plate.

To start with, Roger actually answers his phone and if he's in the middle of another job he takes your number and calls you back. I needed several changes made to electrical services and after hearing me out, Roger suggested that we make an appointment to intall the light fixture in the bathroom and that he would look at the actual location in the laundry room and give me a firm estimate for that job and I could decide whether I wanted him to proceed. Roger arrived for the appoointment right on time, he was and is pleasant and professional and ready to proceed with the job. He removed the old bathroom light fixture, cleaned the mirror, and then installed my new light fixture and the bulbs and showed me the result. It was beautiful - such an improvement. The old light didn't always turn on immediately but the new one is working perfectly. Roger checked the electric service in the laundry room and suggested a new location for the plug and gave me an estimate. I approved it and Roger proceeded to move the service to its new location and install the plug. The really great thing was that Roger also suggested that I might like an electrical outlet installed on the garage wall directly behind the new laundry room plug. That was a great idea because my work table is against that wall and I've always had to use an extension cord while working on projects. Now I have power right where I need it every time I'm working on a project. Roger has been doing electric projects for me for 15 years. He's fixed mystery switches that didn't work, moved electrical outlets and replaced half a dozen lighting fixtures. I have always been pleased with his work and I depend on his opinion about what will work well, where. He knows a lot about lighting systems and is pleasant about giving you his opinion without trying to steer you toward one thing or another. He listens and then he does what I want.
Description of Work: Roger has installed lights and moved electrical services for me over the course of a dozen years, at several different houses. I like older homes and mine have had their share of idiosyncrasies. Roger's work is always top notch. Most recently, in August 2011 he installed a new light in the middle of my bathroom mirror, moved an electrical plug in my laundry room and replaced a heavy duty GFR garage plug that had stopped working.

The did a good job at a fair price and I would use them again. I appreciated that they worked with me on my schedule since I had the roof exposed only for one particular day.
Description of Work: 1. Put in wall switches for the fan and light in the living room. This had to be done while the roof was exposed while getting a new roof installed. 2. Cat 5 from one room to another for internet use. 3. Ran satellite coax down a bedroom wall and put in a box. 4. Cleaned up some wiring that was in the way in the garage.
