 + 1 moreI could not have been more pleased. It was a several hour job but all three guys were extremely professional, friendly and careful with my belongings. They made sure tarps were down to protect carpets & hardwood floors, very cautious when working near my TV. Cleaned up every speck of dust when they were done! I had some other questions about some future possibilities (new lighting & exhaust fan where none currently exist) and they have me several suggestions/options with the different cost effects. These guys are awesome! I will definitely be using them for any electrical work I need done! Highly recommend!!
Description of Work: This is an update to my previous review in Sept 2016. I had the additional work done of installing new electrical outlets (as opposed to grounding existing ones as it saved money plus it put the outlets where we actually need them, which John suggested). I also had the two bedroom light switches changed to dual switch, one for ceiling fan & one for the light, both with dimmer.

Description of Work: Let me preface this by saying I know nothing about electricity. I just bought a home that was a recent flip. It is though a very old house. When I had my new appliances installed they were unable to hook up the washer & dryer because the plug receptacle for the dryer was the wrong one. I also realized by then that the house was not grounded. I found him on Angie's List & was sold by the previous reviews John came & fixed the dryer issue, no problem. Even charging me less than he'd quoted over the phone. We then went through the house as I showed him which outlets we wanted grounded. He told me that some didn't need to be. Others, he said he'd just put in a second outlet because it would cost me less than redoing the existing one. In doing so, he's able to put them closer to where we need them. He saw me use my bed to get to the light pull on my ceiling fan & later suggested that he could put that on it's own switch...with a dimmer. Being a chronic migraine sufferer, I was beyond thrilled!! Needless to say I hired him for the job! His quote, based on googling & asking friends, was not only a fair price but a good price! John was very professional & friendly. He took his time explaining exactly what he'd need to do and why. He could have easily told me that I needed to rewire every outlet in the house to make more money off of me but he didn't. In fact, he talked me out of a couple, saying "live here for awhile first, if you need that done, we can always do it later". I'd give him 10 out of 10 stars & highly recommend him! I have found my electrician for life!!

 + -1 moreJohn fixed it in 10 minutes once the bad one was identified. He explained everything he was doing so I understood, which was fantastic. I have some additional work to be done in a month or so as we are remodeling part of our kitchen and John will be doing the work for us then. I HIGHLY recommend John Bowen and Household Electric.
Description of Work: Power went out in the back half of the house this morning. On a hot day it was bad to lose fans and lights in half the house. I checked everything I could and called John at Household Electric. He said his calendar was full and couldn't get us in until Tuesday. I told him I was hoping to get it done today because we have a baby in one of those rooms. He looked again at his calendar and said he could probably squeeze us in at the end of the day. We have a 1977 Hallmark home with the original breaker box. I was afraid it was a bad breaker and these old things are expensive. John called and then showed up earlier than we had hoped which was awesome. He tested the breakers and they were all fine. Room by room check found a bad socket buried behind a just assembled large bed with a solid headboard. Not fun to move. John identified the bad socket and I happened to have a new one on hand. It was great.

Description of Work: The porch light had to be taken apart so that a replacement bulb could be put in the socket. The fixture was stuck and needed a special tool to undo it. They made sure this problem would not recur.

 + -1 moreThis company was recommended by our neighbor. On March 9, 2016, my husband left a voice message expaining we were remodeling our kitchen and needed electrical done. Did not hear back that day so I called and left a message the next day providing more details of what we needed done. In in message I explained that my husband had called the day before, but did not recieve a call back so I was following up. I also asked that if they were not interested in additional work to please let me know one way or the other, just so we weren't let hanging. Never heard back and have since had two other companys come out to give us an estimate. Our ktichen remodel is a major job we totally gutted the kitchen and dining room removed two bearing walls. The amount of electrical work needed is going to amount to around $6500.00. Conclusion, one of this company's competitors is going to be lucky enough to work on a major project and probably make a hefty profit.

 + -1 moreThe crew was punctual, completed the work on time, and for less cost than the original estimate. After the job, when the spa arrived, the pigtail wire was a little bit too short. However, within a couple of days, they came out and installed a new wire and hooked it up to the spa, no additional charge. Prior to the work, the owner came over to prepare an estimate, and he spent some time explaining the electrical system in my new home, and let me know I had more room for expansion in my main panel than I thought I had. He also offered solutions and options for other electrical projects that I have planned, instead of finding problems and roadblocks. Definitely would utilize them again.
Description of Work: Provide 220-V service to new spa.

Description of Work: John's team installed two large ceiling fixtures, some wall sconces and a few dimmer switches on existing light fixtures. One of the fixtures was a rather complicated celing fan. They were courteous and professional and I am delighted with the results.

 + -1 moreJohn installed 3 ceiling fans in my house. Two in bedrooms, and one in the living room. The bedroom fan brackets needed to be reinforced in the the attic, and the living room didn't even have a light fixture, so he had to cut a hole in the ceiling, and it looks perfect. They did an excellent job. Very professional and took the the time to explain everything they were going to do. Extremely satisfied with the job that was done. John even charged me LESS than he quoted to do the installations. I would definitely use him again, and I strongly recommend Household Electric.

 + -1 moreEverything went very smoothly. They returned my first call promptly, scheduled a visit within a week, found the problem, ordered parts and returned to complete the Kobe about a week later. Both gentlemen who worked on the job were very professional and friendly. I will certainly call them next time I need an electrician.
Description of Work: Repaired a bathroom heater/fan. They had to find parts for the old unit, and we're able to find them and fix the unit for a lot less than the coast of installing a new one.

 + -1 moreThis was my first call after joining Angie's list. I joined just to find an electrician. I called John Bowman (Household Electric) to set up an estimate and he said he was on the freeway driving back to Fresno. He took all my info and said he'd give me a call in an hour or so, as soon as he got back in town and then he would be able to look at his calendar. I did not hear from him that day at all. The next day I was looking at the list of electricians on Angie's List, trying to find a new one when he called. He apologized for not calling me back the day before but he had gotten really busy with the sudden heat wave we were having. I told him it was ok, I can understand getting busy. He said he could come out at 2:00 (it was 10am when he called) and we set it up. By 3:00 I had given up and left to do some errands. When I got home there was a message, after 3:00 that said he was just getting ready to come by and to please give him a call. I can understand getting busy and not calling a prospective customer back the first time, but to call an hour and a half late when you are supposed to be at someone's house is really irresponsible. Not the kind of person I want to work on anything in my house.

Gave some useful advice on our kitchen lighting - but not in such a way as to make me think they were trying to push me into getting more work. The men were pleasant, professional, and friendly. It was a very good experience.
Description of Work: Installed lighting kit on our ceiling fan. Changed installation of a light switch. Re-installed faulty can light - tricky job.

 + 0 moreWe are doing a kitchen remodel and called Household electric for an estimate to fix a ceiling fixture and add an electrical outlet required for a new gas cooktop. John Bowen arrived on time for our estimate appointment and was very friendly and professional. After looking at our kitchen and hearing our complaints about the quality of light, John recommended recessed LED lighting. The quoted price was reasonable so we agreed to have him install the new lighting along with the other items we needed. John and his crew, Troy and Ryan, showed up on time on install day and did a wonderful job. They completed the work much faster than anticipated. All work looks to be of the highest quality. The recessed lighting looks and works perfectly. This is the only electrician I will use or recommend from now on.
Description of Work: Household Electric installed five recessed LED lights, a new dimmer switch to control the recessed lights, a new electrical outlet for a cooktop, and a new ceiling fixture for a ceiling fan.

 + 1 moreA couple times we have had items for him to install (hanging light, ceiling fan) and other times he has come out with all of the items needed, such as can lights, dimmers and a bathroom exhaust fan.
Description of Work: John has done several jobs for our home, as well as our son's home. I would not call anyone else and wish that other contractors took the same approach as John does, it would make dealing with individual contractors a breeze. Each time he has come out he has been on-time, done an excellent job, and charged a fair price for his services.

 + -1 moreWe moved into a new home - new to us - but older and updated. Beautiful home, but discovered several and quot;mysteryand quot; switches and dead sockets, and needed vent fan in master bath. I had preconceived ideas about the fan. John suggested another better product (a silent and more powerful fan, at a good price) and different controls. Wow! Are we glad we took his suggestion! We're extremely satisfied with the fan and electronic timer switch he installed. Same day he and his assistant Troy examined the wiring that had been done during the remodelling and pointed out the deficiencies (someone earlier had done a really amateur job of wiring.) Troy returned another day and further diagnosed wiring issues in kitchen, laundry room, patio, and garage. Resolved kitchen, patio, and laundry switching problems (3- and 4-way switches had been incorrectly installed by previous contractor) and diagnosed funky wiring of garage switches and wiring. John always returns phone calls, always shows up at apponted time, does good work, is credible in his diagnosis of problems, and charges a fair price. Household Electric will always be my electrician of first choice. We have a lot of work for him to do.
