Tom's Concrete

We received three bids for concrete work at our house. We asked for references from all the contractors, after driving around Sacramento, looking at the different jobs that were done by the various contractors, we decided to have Tom’s Concrete do our patio since his past customers that we visited all seem to love the work he did. In addition, going with the cheapest bid can lead to headaches, because everyone knows, you get what you pay for. On the day of the job, Tom and his workers arrived on time, and immediately got to work. By the time I got home from work, my old patio was broken out and removed and the layout for my new patio was all set up. The following morning, they arrived on time again and I left for work as the concrete truck was pulling up. By the time I was home from work, all the concrete had been poured, and they were almost done with the stamping. The color we picked was a mix of two powders, and it was looking really good. The stamping process can create a bit of mess, so when they finished the job and left my home I was impressed how clean they left everything. We are so happy we went with Tom’s Concrete, Tom helped us to figure out how to layout our patio, what colors to use and he listened to what we wanted and he is completely professional. Two days after he was done, my next door neighbor looked over the fence and loved our concrete so much she called him to get her concrete done. You will be very happy with your concrete. Tom and his company did an AMAZING job at our house. They just recently finished a beautiful job in our backyard. My husband and I had been searching for over a month to find someone to listen to our ideas for our backyard. Everyone we talked with either tried to talk us out of our ideas or quote us some absurd amount for the job. It seemed like many that came to give us bids had their own ideas or agenda and didn't want to budge for our own ideas. We contacted Tom and within a few short days he was at our house to give us a bid. Not only was he extremely respectful when it came to listening to what we (the customers) wanted, but he also shared our vision and helped us to fine tune the details. His bid was more than reasonable and we could tell right away that he knew what he was doing - which made us feel very comfortable. Once we decided to go with him, Tom was very prompt about setting up a time for him and his crew to come over and mold the shapes of our cement as well as our patio. He then, again, was very quick about coming back and pouring the cement. We couldn't be happier with his work. Both he and his crew were very professional and we are most certainly going to be using him again when we re-do our driveway and front patio.

. We received 4 estimates for the work. One estimate was $20,000, and the other two were slightly more than Tom's estimate. Tom listened carefully to our questions and had excellent suggestions regarding the work, including reenforcing the area with the cracked section and the finish. He was prompt with his estimate, appeared as promised with equipment and crew to do the work, and his crew cleaned up very well after the job. Tom was present during the entire job to answer any questions we had and also to supervise his crew. We are very pleased with his work, the value for the price was excellent, and working with Tom was a pleasure. We reccommend him to others wholeheartedly

My driveway and garage were buckled and cracked and in need of being replaced. I called in three contractors for bids. Tom was a little lower than the others, but the biggest selling point was Tom. He took quite a bit of time to explain to me what he would be doing, how he would do it, and why he would do it that way. He helped to make it all make sense and eased any worries I had. He even made suggestions to help improve an existing walk way , so I hired him to take care of that as well. At the same time I was having Tom pour a new driveway and garage, I was also setting up to build new fences down the sides of my house. Tom took time to talk to the fencing company to help coordinate the efforts for both jobs. They first tore out the garage, walkway, and driveway. They leveled the dirt, took out the tree roots, and changed the slope of the drive and the walkway. The same day he poured the new garage floor, and the next day, they poured the walkway and the driveway.The pricing and the time frame for the project came in just as Tom proposed. The driveway and garage look amazing. His team did an outstanding job. I would not hesitate to call Tom again when I am ready for more concrete work to be done.

Overall we were very happy with the work and the worker from start to finish.

We spent about $2000 for their services. It went fine and we were very pleased with them. They came on time. They did their work and it was done with professionalism. Then they left and they didn’t leave a mess or anything. I think their price, quality and responsiveness were all good. They showed up when they said they would and they finished when they said they would. Their professionalism was very good. We would use them again.

He was awesome. He is almost always on time and his price is good. He didn’t give the best price, but he was the most professional. He is well-qualified and he is a great concrete man. When he did my patio, he came for three days afterwards to make sure that it was curing right. He did a perfect job and I could tell that he cared about his work.

I called this firm because they had such a good Angie's list rating and must say the entire experience was great. Tom showed up promptly after my initial call and surveyed the job. He listened carefully to what I wanted done and made sure we were both on the same page. He even pulled up a small section of the deck that was to be removed (which he replaced before he left!) to be sure there were no surprises hidden below that would affect the job. There was a little hiccup with the date (not his fault - there were some weather issues and the need to work around my schedule) but once we settled on a day all went well. He and his crew of three other men showed up on time and set right to work. They quickly removed the old deck and loaded the wood on their truck to be hauled off to the dump. A small section of pre existing paving was trimmed away and subsequently replaced so the finished job would look good. The ground beneath was dug out and leveled and the stump of an old oak that was located beneath was dug around and cut down flush with the ground level. They asked what I wanted done with the excavated dirt and we found some low spots where some of the dirt could be used to fill in. They dumped and leveled the ground in those spots before loading up the excess to be hauled off. As they worked, they also paid attention to the "lay of the land" insuring that when complete the area would drain properly. I had expressed some concern that animals (cats, racoons, possums, etc.) might track across the new surface while it was still soft and get ill from trying to clean it off their feet. To prevent this they added a rapid hardener to the mix. Once the new concrete was poured ( something that had to be done one wheelbarrow full at a time as access to the job site was limited) they took great care to correctly position the rebar within the pour and not just beneath it. Care was also taken with the finish - smoothed and lightly textured. When they were finished they cleaned up after themselves and left everything in good order. Throughout the job they paid attention to the final look of the project, following the curve of an old section of preexisting paving and being sure the lines in the new material lined up with the lines in the old stuff. They conferred with me throughout, making sure they were d*** what I wanted and that I was satisfied. When the job was finished, the paving looked terrific! My back yard is now much more attractive and useable!

They didn’t take too much time and their work was satisfactory. They did what I wanted them to do. They came out and worked as scheduled.

He was comparable but his attitude was a little undesirable. He came out when he was supposed to. His professionalism was above average.

He gave us a very competitive bid, and performed services on time. We are very pleased with the finished product. We would definitely use him again !

Tom and his sidekicks the two Marcos' were fantastic to work with, mostly because the comedic element makes for great diversion when large sums of money are involved! Beginning with the estimate, Tom was responsive and honest; he was the only contractor to consistently return calls and truthfully tell me about the difficulties of the job. My house sits at a low point on the property and the decision to pour concrete came mostly due to the desire to limit water from flowing towards the house and into the basement. Tom came up with a couple of solutions, eventually settling on some much needed drainage along with a smaller patio than I actually wanted, because the elevation just wouldn't permit an extended patio. The work is artistic and well done. The project was huge (maybe 1200-1300 square feet) as big as our house and it was completed at cost in one weekend. The stamp and color are beautiful as well. The one and only one downside of working with Tom, is that he's a bit of a loose cannon. I (a female) had some major disagreements with Tom bordering on hostile. Funny thing is, by the end of the job, I really did appreciate and like him! I've called since the job was completed to have him fix a crack (our wacked foundation, not his work) and he came over and fixed it. He's very true to his work as long as you can handle the crazy artist aspect. His guys (Marcos both) are a great buffer and very talente as well. I recommend drawing the desired design out and then checking when they are in the process of setting the forms. I would definitely recommend and use Tom again.

We contacted Tom from the reccomendations on this list, as we have a long driveway and wanted a good job. Tom set up a date to come over on Sunday August 7, 2011 at noon to give us a bid. At that time we also decided to do part of the walkway leading up to our front deck. So to remove the partial walkway and the pad by the garage, to regrade the entire driveway and pour new cement the bid came in at $10,000. The driveway is just over 100 feet long and ranged from 34 to 16 feet wide. We asked if he could give us some references as he didn't have any pictures of his work. He said if we had time we could follow him and he could take us to some houses that he had done nearby. He must have spent two hours with us as we stopped at 3 houses and when we would get out of the car, he would talk about each job. But I'm pretty sure my husband was sold after the first house, even though Tom was willing to show us more. He was currently working on a job but the driveway has been gravel (except for the existing pad) for 25 years so we were in no hurry. As it turned out his job took alittle longer but he called us every week and kept us informed and set a date for Sept 7. Unfortunately, the existing concrete pad did not have a good grade or elevation so one of the problems was getting the right grade. Tom was very skilled in operating his bobcat to remove the pad and get a correct grade. It took them 3 trips to the dump just to remove the old concrete but they got this all done on day one. We had a number of sprinkler heads and outdoor lights on the side of the driveway but they never once damaged any of these. On the second day we asked if he could just do the whole walkway as the existing one was brick and cement squares and we didn't feel it would look right to have two types of material. Tom agreed and later on we added alittle more to the width of one side of the drive so this increased the total to by $1,066. This day he had two other cement contractors with him and they set all the forms. I should say that Tom and those who came with him were always on time and worked a long hard day as it got really hot those 3 days. On the third day they were here really early and there were a total of seven people to help with the pour. It took 3 full truck loads and a partial load to finish. Tom never had any plans on paper that I know of but he had a vision from the first day and you could see how intense and focused he was on implementing that plan.. Every man knew his job and the pour went like clockwork resulting in a beautiful driveway. They stamped a border detail on both the front, back, and sides of the driveway. The expansion joints really add to the attractive quality of the completed job. The drive is kind of curved and the one that runs down the center of the drive is especially nice. Tom and all the men that helped him were very nice, professional and worked really hard. We are very happy with the final results and would not hesitate to call him again.

I contacted Tom to ask for a bid for the job...he was actually in our neighborhood when I called him so we received a bid on the same day. We had already received two bids for the job from other contractors and I thought I would just get a third bid for comparison. Tom's bid came in significantly lower than the other two bids. This made me both happy and nervous (I was worried that there might be a reason that is was lower). I checked out the other reviews of Tom's work on Angies list which were overwhelmingly positive. I also looked at examples of his work on his website and was impressed with what I saw so we hired him. As promised, he was able to complete the job in two days. He and his workers were efficient and hard working. Tom is a stickler for details and I was impressed as he made sure to double-check all of the work done by his employees. The end result: our project was completed on-time and within budget.

He was very responsive and came out the day that we called him. He had a lot of good information and gave us several options. He was able to show us some work in the neighborhood that he had done that was similar to the project we wanted to have done. The estimated price was $5000. We will be using him in the future.

They did an excellent job. He explained what he was doing and he did it right; it is standing up very well. He is very professional. He answered our questions and the quality was excellent all along.

Our large, steep driveway was cracked and needed replacing. It was important that the new driveway be at the same level as our old one in order for our cars to get up it without scraping. There were two cracked walkways that also needed replacing. We asked 3 companies to give us an estimate. We chose Tom because he was knowledgable, friendly, had the best price and seemed to understand our concerns. When the start date came, he and his crew arrived right on time. Our sprinkler system runs under the driveway and walkways, which meant they would be broken during demolition of the old concrete. They didn't have to, but they jumped right in and fixed everything. Tom and his crew all worked very hard and did an excellent job. The driveway and the walkways look better than when they were new. We can drive up with no problems. Tom came back after several days to check on the job and make sure we were satisfied with the work. We certainly are. I would highly recommend Tom's Concrete.

I recently had the need to demolish and replace the cement walkway up to our house which had sunken several inches below the adjoining sidewalk. I called for Tom to come out and give me an estimate. Happily, he was out the next day. I didn't even have to be home. He assessed the problem, how it could be resolved and immediately called me with an estimate of how much it would cost. I wanted the work done immediately and Tom set a date within a few days. He arrived promptly on the day of the job and worked tirelessly all day until it was beautifully finished. The walkway took almost two weeks to dry completely in our recent cool weather, being under our large sycamore trees, but it looks wonderful and the color matches the rest of our yard perfectly. He is dedicated, reliable and trustworthy. And the finished product was perfect - even better than the original.

From the first phone call to the final check in, Tom was timely and very professional. The days our schedule changes due to competing priorities or weather, Tom was very forthcoming, which helped me to plan my week much better. The day the patio was poured it started to rain, which was not in the weather forecast. Tom illustrated a high level of certainty all would be fine and even sent a colleague to check up on the patio. The end product is beautiful and I am extremely happy with both the experience and the final product. I plan to contact Tom's Concrete for all my future concrete needs!

Tom reviewed the scope of work with me and my son, and gave an estimate on the spot, which we accepted (the only bid we got). My son tore out out some old concrete and built part of a new deck. Then Tom did all the prep work (around the deck) and at other places, coordinating with my son. His crew poured the concrete in a day, and there were no problems. He returned a week later to remove the frames. We felt that everything went very smoothly, with Tom anticipating and avoiding a number of potential problems. We're very pleased with our new cement walks and patio.

They got the job done in one day. So far I have had a very good experience with them but if the cracks appear then I need to call them back. I will grade them high across all categories.

I received 3 bids and from the start it was clear that Tom had the most experience and his price was slightly less than the #2 bidder. He quickly priced out the two scenarios I wanted to choose from and was flexible when I made some changes during his 2nd visit. He took the time to investigate potential drainage problems and assist with providing some solutions to fix existing problems when he initially came out to do the estimate. On the day of the pour, Tom and his crew showed up on time and helped me tremendously by digging extra trenching so I could install piping for solar pool heating and a natural gas grill. Tom even ordered and picked up the (6) 20 foot lengths of PVC pipe and fittings for a very nominal charge. His crew also helped me install the piping during those times when I could not do it alone. I couldn't have done it without them and the crew was cordial. The concrete looks good and this was a very positive experience. I strongly recommend Tom since he is hands-on, knowledgable and flexible.

We contacted Tom and within one day he returned our call. He came by to estimate the cost and offered to take us to a nearby patio job that he recently finished. He gave us a detailed written quote with three different options (unlike the other contractor that quoted the project) and left us with marketing information on stamping and coloring. We contacted him the following day and scheduled the work to be completed two days later. Unfortunately, his finisher called in sick that day so he called us early in the morning and rescheduled for Friday of the same week. On Friday, he showed up on time with his crew. They worked hard all day and finished the job on time and on budget. The patio looks great. We are very happy with the finished product.

Very well. Tom McMahon came out right away to give us an estimate. He made several suggestions prior to giving us his estimate, which we thought was quite reasonable. He and his crew performed the work promptly. In fact, he wanted to go a little before we were ready. (We were a small job he could fit in between other work. We were the delay, not him.)

The project went very well. Tom stopped by in the evening to check out the job site and provide an estimate. He maintained excellent communication throughout the project and provided valuable guidance on the design of the patio and walkways. The entire project, although quite large, took only 2 days for Tom and his crew to complete.
