Description of Work: They wanted $1500 more than 2 other bidders for a slightly worse patio cover. I told them this but they kept calling. Finally they talked me into a second estimate by what seemed to be one of the contractors they use. They looked the job over and said they could not do it any lower. I think Quality First is primary a sales organization using local contractors. My last contact was a year later when a salesman called again. The overhead cost of sales makes them expensive. You are better off getting 3 or 4 estimates from local contractors unless you don't want to deal with contractors and are willing to pay a pay a premium.

Description of Work: A sales rep came to the door. Since I was planning to have my concrete driveway redone, I scheduled an appointment for an estimate. I had taken the time to research correct methods, materials and a cost range for the area. The reps arrived on time, and were clean and neat. One was apparently the lead rep and the other a trainee. The "estimate" took 2 hours with repetitious assertations of certification. The methods and materials described were correct, but the price was way out of range- approx $12,800 for a basic concrete double driveway. After I told them it was too much, the price was down by about 25%, but still high. Besides the price, the pressure to decide by Monday, or the price would be invalid, and the disrespect for the trainee shown by the lead rep, were distasteful to me. I understand the company is now under new management. In that case, it might be worth reconsidering, but I cringe at the thought of a 2 hour sales pitch.

Description of Work: Nothing. I did not hire them, told them I wasn't interested in any of their services. Their agents pestered me for months by phone, after I told them to stop calling. Finally had to be extremely rude to them to get my point across. When one of their sales people shows up at your door, DO NOT give them your phone #.

Description of Work: Contacted by door to door salesman. He did apologize because I do have a "No Soliciting" sign!! I am usually highly resistant to any salesman but my resistance was low and let him go through the routine for replacing my driveway. Kept giving me the sales pitch. Then I got a call later from office, more high pressure: the usual routine "we like to keep out people busy and we're only out 4 weeks", or "we need someone in Orangevale", or "can we put a sign in your yard", "if we lower the price", etc. etc. They lowered the price 3-4 times (start high, and keep lowering until.....) I first agreed to meet a rep the next day. Thought about the tactics, checked Angie's List and canceled. Do not use this company - high pressure tactics.

Not so good
Description of Work: Installed 24 solar panels on roof. The solar division is in California, and once we signed the contract they simply could not get the job done. We signed in December, and after a heated discussion, we got them installed the last of March. I was not allowed to talk to the president of the company. The main problem here seemed to be that Reno was out of the way. They had a team canvassing the neighborhool selling these systems. We were interested. so we signed up. The product was made here in the USA which was important to us.We finally got the panels installed. Now we have been waiting for 2 months to get the net meter from Nevada Energy. There seems to be a disconnect between Quality and Nevada Energy, so we have been supplying Nevada Energy with a lot of electricity without getting credit for it.Now 1/2 the panels are not functioning. We have to wait 2 days for the electrician, who is local, to come fix the problem.I think the solar system is a good one, but like anything else, if the people installing and servicing are not reliable and are always too busy to take care of you, then you did not get a good deal.

This company solicited their services at my home. I set an appointment for an estimate which took at least 2 hours of my time only to be given an unreasonable bid of slighty over $1600.00 to replace my roof with comp. The appointment was like sitting with a salesman at a car lot. After the appointment, I was hounded on the phone for nearly 9 months. They called from numberous numbers even after I told them how ridiculous they were. They tried to sale me on a recent reduction in cost when I mistakenly answered their call. It wasn't until I had another knock at my door almost a year later that I told that salesman to leave me alone and take me off of any and every list you have me on - your company is nothing but an overpriced pest. They finally quit calling.

Two weeks later another salesman wants to use house for posting signs to advertise at cheaper price for windows, appointment at 11am. I was up most of night before very ill, did not hear doorbell, too sick to come to door until I heard them slam the screen door in anger. High pressure salesman trying to make a sale, would never use this company.
Description of Work: Door salesman asking to have someone give quote for window replacements. Told them planning new windows in the future, sales rep gave 45 minutes of explanation of product, price way too high even after supposed discounts. I made comment about sales tactics he was indignant. Told him not committing to anything at this time. He was not happy. Saw commercial for same windows next day by Hawkins Exterior for cheaper price without any discounts.

I'm very sorry that your experience with Quality First was such an unfavorable one. We appreciate your comments and your honesty about the situation and will use your comments to improve our company. It is not our policy to employ people who treat our customers and potential customers with disrespect as these employees did. When employees with negative attributes such as these are discovered they are let go, for there is no room in the Quality First world for employees that have bad attitudes especially when those attitudes are directed at customers, or anybody for that matter. We are committed to excellence in everything that we do and strive to improve upon ourselves every day. We have over 350 employees and over 19,000 satisfied customers and we are very proud of those numbers, but we want even the people that aren’t our customers to have great experiences with us. We have restructured our customer service department to better provide a quality experience with our customers and potential customers. We very excited about this change because it is a winning situation for everybody. Once again, we are sorry that your experience with us was not satisfactory, but we are very thankful for your input. Should you ever choose to become involved with our company in the future you will find it to be a much different experience. Thank you for your time.

It all began one afternoon when my husband went outside to reattach the mud flaps on my van while I got the baby ready to leave (we were going on an outing together). A man approached him and asked if we were planning on any remodeling. Ironically enough, the two of us had just discussed a remodel project we want to do several years from now, when we have money saved for it. So 30 minutes and one very fussy baby later we had an appointment for 6pm two days out to give an estimate so we know what we're getting ourselves into and "to keep his guys busy with work". Bill arrived at 5:30 without calling to say that he'd be early. So my husband and I had to skip eating dinner so we could start the appointment half an hour early than expected. Bill discussed what we liked and didn't like about our kitchen, brought in some samples for us to work with, and used some really neat little stencils to draw up our kitchen layout. He touted the knowledge and ethics of his company's owners and described his interaction with them "over at corporate" as jovial. He said that he'd been sent by corporate to promote new jobs with some limited savings certificates for varying amounts of money. He was surprised when we said that the person who had scheduled his visit with us was not from corporate but from the branch office in San Jose. Maybe whoever didn't tell him the appointment time wasn't until 6pm also didn't tell him how our business had been solicited. Anyway, even though we'd described, in detail, our plans to wait to remodel the kitchen for a few years and that we merely wanted an estimate Bill pressured us to accept the work right then with his limited time discount certificate, at 8pm in my dining room. We reminded him several times as he continued to pressure us that it would be highly irresponsible for us to begin any remodeling right now. Finally he seceded. Then he brought up the sliding glass door we'd mentioned replacing. And brought in his sliding glass door cutouts and measured the door. He told us about how this factory in Woodland made doors just for them with a revolutionary process that had just come out 14 months ago. Cool. At 9pm he gave us an estimate for the slider with another one of his savings certificates. My husband and I were both hesitant to sign for it because we would be relying on our tax refund to pay for the work, and needed to make sure we had enough left over for other bills as well. When my husband explained this, Bill ASKED HOW MUCH OUR REFUND WOULD BE. I found this to be extremely inappropriate and my husband was so caught off guard that he couldn't say anything. I stepped in and said it would be enough, but our original point remained. It took me half an hour, but I convinced him to let us call him the next day with our decision regarding the slider. Finally, at 9:30pm, my husband escorted Bill and the last of his samples to the car while I threw together a super quick dinner. I called around the next day for other contractors with the same product to see if I could get any comparable quotes. One of the places I called described the same exact door, coming from a nationwide retailer who had a local factory in Woodland (coincidence?) and quoted me at $1,933, including an allotment for lead paint cautions-which is something I appreciate because our house was built prior to the 1979 cutoff, and I hadn't thought of the issue with the prior quote. We had been quoted at $4,210 with Quality First Home Improvements, and with the savings certificate it came down to $2,710. My husband called Bill that evening to tell him we would not be pursuing the door with him and he thanked him for calling and then asked what my husband does for a living. Even though the night prior Bill had stated that he never asks what people do for work because it's "just rude," my husband answered. Bill thanked him for our time and that was the end of that. All in all, I found the estimation process too lengthy, the sales pitch too pushy, the product to be not nearly as exclusive as he claimed and grossly overpriced, and the salesman self-contradictory. I'm not interested in working with Quality First Home Improvement. A quick Google search on them turned up some more information that leads me to believe my husband and I made the right decision. I have no experience with their work, but if it's anything like their estimation process it's a pain in the butt and not worth it.
Description of Work: We had an individual come perform a kitchen remodel estimate. Through our discussion of the living area in our house he also ended up giving us an estimate for a sliding glass door replacement.

Got an estimate to coat the house. The first bid was way too high even with the "special" promotions that was only good for that day. Months later got another call promising additional discounts. The same salesman came out to remeasure the house because he had lost the 1st measurements. The 2nd bid was even higher than before. Long story short...a lot of high pressure sale and very poor customer service.

The company was quick to come out and give their (overpriced) bid, which my husband accepted despite my protests that it was way too much for the work to be performed and concerns about quality based on Angie's List and other reviews. Going ahead anyway, however, we then waited several weeks past the original time assured by the salesman and had to make a number of phone calls before the company actually scheduled the work and came out to do it. The repairs and patching seem to have been done fine and the Texcote coating seems fine, too, but it is considerably brighter than the rest of the house color even though the salesman had been given paint to match the color. Also, the back and side painting work was left incomplete. For example, the workman painted AROUND a lightweight aluminum smoker that could have been moved with one hand, and on the side area, one patch was painted over with a large daub and not cut in neatly to the rest of the patched and painted area. Since the color is much lighter the areas that were skipped over in the painting are very noticeable. In a follow up visit, the salesman admitted that the back and side were not finished as they should have been. We then contracted with the company in June for additional work to paint across the top and remaining side of the garage front of the house so that the color of the stucco across the whole front of the house would be the same and look much nicer overall. The salesman committed that the back and sides from the first project would be finished up at the same time as the new work (we had already paid for the first work in full). Again, however, it took many weeks and calls to get ANY response from the company once we had contracted for the new work. Finally the salesman called back this second week of August, stating that the company couldn't make enough money on the new work to be done, so they weren't going to do the work (and obviously won't be finishing their first work either)!
Description of Work: Contracted in April to repair decorative stucco wall at the front of house and patch cracks and scratches on back and side of house and then paint the stucco wall and repaired areas with Textcote Cool Wall to match the existing stucco (salesman was given paint to match color).

This seems uncharacteristic of our installers and I would like to speak to this customer personally to apologize to them and thank them for the honest words of concern regarding the work done. We are more than willing to work with any customer who seems to have a problem with the quality of work that was provided to them. If they are having an issue with what was done, then we have an issue too. We are not satisfied unless the customer is satisfied. We have over 19000 customers and 350 employees. When you have numbers such as those there may be communication break downs. Although we try very hard to avoid situations such as these, they are still a statistical likelihood. We have recently restructured our customer service department and implemented systems that increase our communication efficiency and will, hopefully, prevent events like this from happening. Again, if a customer ever has a problem with the work that has been done and they didn't receive the service that they paid for we will rectify the situation. We want to please our customers, we want them to be happy with us and with the service that they receive. This will be and always has been our number one priority.

I would NEVER hire this company for anything; they started out with a double-price bid, with HEAVY pressure to sign now - good today only. The experience was the worst heavy-pressure sales experience I have ever been through, with the exception of one time-share sales pitch and one used-car purchase. The company then called back over the next 6 weeks dropping their price each time. I did check some reputable roofers after this bid and found out just how bad the bid was.... I wouldn't hire this company to mow my lawn, much less any home improvement work.

A salesman came door to door to sell solar paneling, and I asked about a patio cover. The salesman made an appointment for someone else to come by the following week and meet with me for an estimate. No one showed, so when I called to find out why no one was there, they admitted they didn't have the appointment, and asked to reschedule. To their credit, they got someone out very soon following the phone call. The guy who came by was pleasant, professional, and thorough. He went through the company's licenses, insurance, and awards. After all that and discussing my project, he gave me an estimate which was not itemized. He passed it over with the bottom folded over to hide it, so I had to "reveal" the estimate. It reminded me too much of a used car salesman tactic. Anyway. Nice guy. The company worked to make up for their mistake. Price was not only beyond my budget, it wasn't even competitive. I might call them back for an estimate on one of their other main businesses, since patio covers aren't a focus of the business.
Description of Work: I got an estimate for installing a 16x23 alumawood 3" insulated patio cover with fan bracer beams. I didn't end up using them because of the price difference between them and all the other bids. They were literally 2x the cost of the next 2 lower bids.

The experience with them did not go well. They got me to sign a contract, so I had to use them. They did a terrible job, and they charged me a lot of money for it. I don't think the fence is going to last very long. They were supposed to send out a crew, and only one guy came through. He just hurried through the job in one day. They hounded me until I agreed for them to do the work, and then took their time come out and do the work. They didn't say specifically when they were going to come and do the job, but it did take them several weeks to get out here. We didn't have an acutual date for them to start. I didn't like the way the salesman worked on me. It was more of a high pressure thing.

Quality First appreciates your comments and your honesty. As a company we, obviously, as our name implies are very focused on Quality. Quality of work, Quality of customer service etc... When our standards are not being met for one reason or another, changes are made. When an installer does not meet the expectations of our company, as the person who installed your fence obviously did not, then that person needs to seek other opportunities. It is for that reason that your installer is no longer with this company. Our reputation depends on our relationships with our customers and the quality of work that our people do, and we are constantly trying to raise the bar and be better at what we are doing everyday. We have recently revamped our customer service department so that we can serve our customers in a more timely manner and make sure that everything goes smoothly. The customer is priority one here at Quality First and we are doing everything we can to make sure that is a fact that is more apparent everyday.
