From start to finish Jerry Shelton was a professional. Of the 4 bids I received he was the only one to truly walk around and examine the whole house, noting the dry rot and suggesting a different color combination that he felt would work better. My wife and I agreed and we are extremely happy that we went with the color combination. Jerry was scheduled a time to start and contacted me a few days before and came back out to discuss again the colors and what was to get painted, etc. Just great customer service. Worker showed up on time to do the pressure washing and the next day Jerry and his crew showed up right on time to start work on the house. The entire crew were always courteous and pleasant. They spent 2 & 1/2 days working on the house and left it cleaner than when they started. I highly recommend Painting Pros for any paint job!

Overall the painting itself went very well. Painting Pros used Sherman Williams A-100 paint. The finished paint job looks really nice. The job was complete in less than two days. As I am a rookie at having my house painted there are some things I should probably have done myself before the painters arrived. Here are some recommendations and lessons learned: If you have fragile plants or trees like Japanese Maples close to the house it would be best if you covered and uncovered them yourself. The heavy tarps they use will break branches that affect the shape and future growth. This fall I will be replacing two six-foot trees. During the initial walk-through and estimate process I specifically mentioned my trees and was assured they would receive extra care. If you have patio lights close to the house remove them or protect them in some way. The tops may be broken off ("accidents happen".) They repaired one but I don't know how long super glue will last in Roseville weather. They also left the open tube of glue on my patio table and it created a mess. It took some scraping and acetone to get it off the glass. Make sure you have plenty of extra garbage can space or specify up front that they haul away all the paper, tape, and masking materials. My can was full when they left with 5 days until garbage pickup. I am thankful that I have a good neighbor that doesn't use all of his can.. If you have welcome mats remove them and put them in the garage. If they end up on the lawn the sun will heat them enough to burn the shape of the mat into your front lawn for quite a while. It is also a good idea to move any patio furniture, firewood cribs, etc. away from the house. You never can tell what might get damaged and not noticed until later. Finally, do a more thorough inspection than I did before they leave. I had to call them back to repaint part of the front door and later discovered that some of the masking materials had not been removed from the roof. I got out the ladder and took care of that myself. If Painting Pros can resolve these types of issues I would recommend them but right now, as much as I want to, I just cannot.

Response from Painting Pros
First, I would like to address the quality issue. The customer states "Overall the painting itself went very well.... The finished paint job looks really nice...." Obviously, these statements don't describe a C quality job. They describe an A or B minimum... Re: The Japanese Maples: I personally broke 1 branch while backrolling, the branch got tangled with my pole and the drop, I was being extra careful til a 10 sec lapse in concentration put the tangled mess together resulting in the broken branch. The other branch also got tangled in the tarp while being removed. Both trees were less than 3 ft from the house. Now while it is never a good thing to break a branch, those particular branches were not major branches, the trees still had a nice shape, most people would not think it was such a tragic event. I apologized for the damage, but could see the customer's mood darken during the discovery. Re: Repaint part of the front door...the front door was thoroughly prepped and painted. During the installation of their handle and deadbolt, I nicked the paint between the deadbolt and handle. I touched up the spot, and other than the slight(very slight) imperfection in the finish, it turned out great. The customer called me and I returned the same day to examine the issue. The nick was very small so to satisfy the customer, I sanded the nick and touched it up again...it did not improve the appearance of the door, nor was the additional trip or correction necessary, however, the customer did seem to be satisfied with the result. Re: the garbage can issue...We almost never leave without tamping down the garbage...It may have appeared full, but it was all paper and plastic and would have easily compacted to half or less, had we tamped it down as is normal procedure. We did make three careless mistakes, the doormat burning the front lawn, the glue tube spilling onto his glass table top and leaving a piece of masking paper on the roof...there is no excuse for these 3 mistakes. This job was done during the heat wave at the end of June. While I do not want to make excuses for some of the mistakes, we are human. We strive to perform in an exceptional manner, but sometimes fall short. This was the cause of the doormat burn in such a short time. We at PAINTING PROS stand behind our work and will continue to SATISFY THE VAST MAJORITY OF OUR CUSTOMERS. Jerry w. Painting Pros

We were very impressed by Jerry and his 3 workers. There was a delay of 2 days because of rain but the crew showed up on time on a Wednesday. One employee had power washed the house on the previous Saturday. They caulked a lot of the areas as needed and replaced part of a fence. They did an excellent job and we were very happy with the results. The 3 painters were professional, friendly and displayed a great attitude. Jerry, the owner, often worked along with them. We thought the price was reasonable, given the quality of the work. Also, they cleaned up and left our place in great condition. We already have given Jerry's name to 2 other people who are interested in his company.

I can see why (member name removed) would think it strange that we didnt open her windows for the painting, however, on many old homes in the Land Park area, the windows are never opened and have been painted shut for years. When this is the case, we will just paint them as they are. Trying to force windows open can lead to unnecessary damage and repairs. After looking at the windows, I thought they were never opened. I was mistaken. I sent someone ASAP to correct the problem....Jerry w/ Painting Pros

We had a team of four men ( including the proprietor) come to do the work. They did a great job and were very pleasant. The first day was for the power washing, the second day was for masking it off and some painting. The third day it was completed. We have a two story stucco house and we had the main color and an accent color and a different color for the front door.

Jerry from Paint Pros came out to give us an estimate on painting three sides or our house as we were having siding put on the front. He pointed out several areas of dry rot and explained what needed to be replaced. I also wanted some additional work to be done and Jerry made several suggestion on cost effective ways to do them. His estimate was complete with all the work to be done spelled out and the total cost for the entire job. Jerry took a piece of the siding with him to match the color. It is so close you can't tell the siding from the painted surface. Day one the house was pressure washed, day two all the wood work and paint prep work was done and on day three the house was painted and job completed. Jerry even painted around the foundation in the front of the house where the siding would not cover. That's really above and beyond. The crew did a good job cleaning up and the house looks great. Best looking house in the neighborhood.

We need to have our house painted and the first painter that we called was Jerry at Painting Pros. We scheduled an appointment for an estimate and he arrived on time on the designated day. It did not take long for Jerry to suggest that we needed more than a simple coat of paint. After he examined the house, he told us that he thought it was not worthwhile simply to paint the house, but that replacement of the wood siding (lapboard and cedar shingles) was probably recommended. While he imagined that some painters would take the job, he said that he wouldn't feel comfortable doing it knowing that the paint would not last very long. He stayed for a bit to talk with us about what he thought needed to be done and why a basic paint job would not be suitable for our house. Even though we did not hire Painting Pros at this time, we certainly appreciated Jerry's willingness to talk to us about his thoughts regarding home maintenance and improvement. If there were a time in the future when we COULD use his services, we would not hesitate to call him again. He was friendly, professional, and knowledgable, and I can only imagine that his customers are very satisfied with his work.

Jerry and his crew did an excellent job! We have had our house painted a couple of times in the past, but Painting Pros is by far the best company we have ever used. They applied 3 very thick coats of paint. In the past we have had issues with painters making too many mistakes because they didn't properly prep. Painting Pros did a great job of prepping. I couldn't find any mistakes. We had an issue with scheduling since we had to have our house painted before our party and Jerry scheduled us right away. They worked on Sunday to make sure we had it finished in time. I really appreciate everything they did. I highly recommend Painting Pros.

Jerry Shelton (Paint Pros) and his team were excellent! They were punctual, cleaned up after themselves each day and worked very hard to paint the exterior of our house. Jerry gave us a detailed estimate and there were no hidden fees or surprises. I would HIGHLY recommend Painting Pros for any painting job and will use them again. I am EXTREMELY picky about my house and the work that is done. I do not give reviews lightly and am happy to recommend Painting Pros to anyone who may be looking to repaint their home. I picked them because of their reviews here on Angie's List and I am so happy I did!
Description of Work: Exterior paint for my 3400 square foot house. The house was built in 2003 and still had the original exterior paint. The original builder did a shotty job of painting our home. Jerry recommended Elastimeric paint due to the paint wear and it looks GREAT! I would recommend the upgrade to Elastimeric paint if you have a stucco house that has not been painted in a while and is showing wear spots through the stucco. My house looks the best in the neighborhood, and it looks brand new again!

The power wash was completed a few days ahead of time. The paint crew completed the prep work on the first day, cutback and protected the shrubs and tree near the exterior of my home. They also did a very good job of protecting my newly installed windows and in patching old stucco and feathering the new stucco with the existing stucco. They did an excellent job in finishing my doors, shutters and thresholds. The crew came on time, worked very efficiently, cleaned up after themselves and assess their work proactively to ensure that the finished work was high quality. The owner was also very helpful in assisting with paint colors and providing information on the use of dark colors versus light colors. I did go beyond my initial budget, but it was worth it!
Description of Work: The work required was to power wash, repair a number of deep cracks and paint the exterior my single story stucco and brick home. Painting Pros also painted the interior of a newly installed french door. The quote for service was detailed and thorough. All the work needed was explained and noted in the final quote. and the owner was amenable to working with me in terms of price by matching another quote that came in a bit lower.

FANTASTIC!! I highly recommend Jerry Shelton and Painting Pros.......provide excellent work and customer service!
Description of Work: Painting Pros painted the exterior of my house and garage (separate building). Prior to calling contractors, I had selected my colors and the paint I wanted to use (Sherwin Williams Duration brand). I obtained 3 bids from different contractors. Jerry's bid was a little higher than the other two, though not by much. During the initial estimate, Jerry's provided a detailed assessment of my home, pointed out several details I hadn't noticed, made suggestions, discussed my specific concerns and answered all of my questions. He e-mailed me a written bid the next day. My initial impressions of Jerry's expertise/ experience and the excellent Angies List reviews, made my decision easy to choose Painting Pros. Jerry arranged the dates of the work to accommodate a vacation I had planned. One of his crew (Andy) arrived Sunday to pressure wash the house and garage. Jerry and his crew (Andy, Jason and Jay) arrived first thing Monday morning. The house and garage were prepped, patched areas, nails sunk and they even removed a small TV dish satellite installed on the corner of my house. By the end of day one, the house and garage walls were painted. Day two, the crew painted all the trim , shutters and spray painted a security screen door (it now looks like a new door). Jerry painted the front, back and garage doors with the accent color. The last to be painted was my front porch floor. The crew even repainted my house numbers and a small hanging plant holder! Clean up was excellent and all debris/ garbage hauled away.....including the satellite dish! The porch floor paint color I selected turned out to be too light and similiar to the trim color. Jerry suggested adding color to the remaining paint or selecting a new color and he would send one of his crew back to repaint my porch floor. That is customer service in my opinion! I was also impressed that Jerry works alongside his crew ensuring quality workmanship and that the job goes smoothly.

Painting Pros did an excellent job painting my house. The owner helped me picked trim colors that matched the color I had chosen. They were reasonably priced, and got the job done in the time they said they would. They also painted two doors and stained the front door at a reasonable price (not part of the original quote). I would highly recommend them and use them again in the future.

It was ver easy to work with Jerry and his crew. Jerry was on site the entire time. I have nothing but good things to say about the work that they did on our house.
Description of Work: The entire crew was friendly and professional. Jerry assisted in the choice of paint color and we love it. They did stucco repair and painted our house. They completely cleaned up after the project was finished. Do to an illness in the family Jerry was very flexible in changing our start date. Jerry Shelton and his crew arrived on a Sat to pressure wash the house. Then, the next day they primed the bare wood and calked the cracks, nail holes and anything else that required calking. Then, we had a rain delay. They showed up early to begin the painting. They are truly professional painters who are extremely knowledgeable about what they were doing. They moved patio furniture away from the area as well as many potted plants. We had purchased new lignt fixtures and they were installed as well. They were very careful to protect plants, furniture and statuary. Aftrerward, they cleaned the area around the house and put things back in order. Jerry and his crew is highly recommended. This was the second time we have used Jerry for exterior house painting.

Solicited two estimates from the top-2 Angie's List contractors. Both estimates were competitive and felt comfortable with both contractors. We went with Painting Pro's over the other contractor based on two two additional factors above and beyond the basic estimates and work performed (those being competitive): 1) In addition to painting/prep of the house, Jerry and his team also replaced rotted wood around the garage door and side door. With the other contractor, I needed to get a handyman to do this separately. Getting the additional handyman required additional time and expense, and 2) Jerry was the owner and would be on-site working together with his crew. From the beginning, Jerry was professional and very practical. He recommended paint colors and sheen based on his experience, but obviously we made the final decision based on our tastes. He personally came and did the pressure washing himself on the weekend. The painting took 2 full days, with a crew of Jerry + 3-4. It was nice that he was on-site the entire time so we can discuss any details that needed changing, progress, questions, etc. The quality of the work was outstanding, and the house/yard was left in a clean fashion, with everything moved back to its original location. His painters hung new lights in place of the old ones. In addition to the house/fence painting, he also replaced the 2x6s and wood trim around the garage door. He did the work himself, and it looks great. I am very satisfied with Painting Pros and would not hesitate to use them again or recommend them to others. Already neighbors have complimented the work and asked for referrals. At the time, the only concern I had was that Jerry uses Dunne-Edwards paint and I had more experience with Kelly-Moore. Based on his recommendation, we used DE. I have found that the DE looks to be same or higher quality as KM, and the low-sheen finish selected is very beautiful; the color is identical. I am sure if the customer had a concern, the paint brand could be negotiable.

Excellent job. The last time our house was painted it took 6 days and it was not even close to being a comparable quality paint job. Painting went like clockwork. Three days and it was done! The mess was cleaned up and they even swept the entire back patio. I keep looking for areas to be touched up and can't find any. Our neighbors love the job and I am sure Jerry will get call from them in the future. Jerry was not the lowest price but I was impressed with his paint knowledge. We provided the highly recommended paint. Also, he did not give us a sales pitch. Everything he suggested or recommended was done by himself and his crew. I liked that he checked the quality of work as it was done. The last time I had some major work done, the salesman and crew boss never showed up unless I called and complained about the quality of work. Then came the excuses and the redo's. None of this with Jerry on the job making sure the quality of work met with his high standards the first and only time. I continue to look at the job everyday and I am amazed at the difference when the house is painted by a true professional. Love it! Thanks again, Jerry.

Jerry was one of 3 bids we received, all from Angie's List "A" members. I liked his approach and the time he spent during the walk around and estimate process. He offered his opinion on color combinations (we have seen some horrible decisions in our neighborhood), and offered a couple of extra products to enhance the painting (which we declined), but in the end included because he thought it was the right way to paint our house. I also liked that he was here nearly the entire time, working alongside his crew. We have received many compliments on our house. I would definitely use him again when the need arises.

Jerry kept in close contact and was able to start the job early (which helped because we were having out of town guests at a later date). Two days of prep; and about three of painting. Jerry and his crew performed the tasks excellently and we are very happy with the finished product. Jerry also left two cans of paint (body and trim) so we could do any needed touch-ups in the future. Jerry was very professional, seemed concern that we were pleased with his services, and always had a wonderful, client-centered disposition. We would not hesitate to use him again.

Mr. Shelton (Jerry) was very helpful and professional. He went out of his way to help us decide where the trim colors should be placed on the house. I chose the color scheme to be painted based on a house in our neighborhood whose paint I have always admired. Jerry went to this house with me once to see how I wanted my house to look. He went a second time on his own to be sure he could advise us best to achieve the results I wanted. His team was fast and got the job done in three days. I got estimates from several painters. We chose Painting Pros based on our interactions with Jerry, the number and grade of the ratings on Angie's list, and his 7 year guarantee. All in all, we think Painting Pros did a good job. However, they could have done a few things to make it a great job in our opinion.1) There was a little less attention to detail than desired. For example, we have numerous exterior light fixtures. The painters removed the bulbs prior to painting but left two in our foliage rather than returning all of them to the fixtures after painting. This could have resulted in injury if we inadvertantly stepped on them. Once we replaced the bulbs, none of the lighting fixtures worked. We had to go around and get them back in working order. (they all worked fine prior to painting.) 2) Our estimate states that all cracks in wood to be caulked. Several wood posts had cracks or holes that were not caulked properly as promised. After the job was done, I noticed some cracks that weren't caulked, I called Jerry. He happily offered to return, fill the cracks, and repaint those areas. I appreciate this. However, I continue to find more cracks and holes that were not caulked. The result is that these areas are exposed and will weather sooner. (and cause dry rot). Because we specifically discussed all cracks to be caulked, I would expect that all be done as agreed. 3) Towards the end of the job on the last day, it seemed like the paint team was in too much of a hurry to leave. For example, our front courtyard iron gate was painted as agreed, but a portion of the handle was missed. Some wood planks brought by and used by the painters were left here rather than taken away by the painters.4) The trim on our covered patio was painted the main house color (as we chose). Having seen it after completion, it is apparent that it would look better if it was painted the lighter trim color. When I asked Jerry to repaint it, he was happy to do so but would charge an additional $200 to do it. I think this is an excessive amount. I was happy to pay an additional amount, but a reasonable one. The painter was returning to redo some of the missed areas anyway. It would have been a nice gesture for the guys to redo the trim which is only about 1 inch wide and would probably take an hour to do since they were out here anyway recaulking the missed areas. For a $4000 paint job, I don't think it would have been unreasonable for them to do it if it made the difference between a good job and an excellent job. Let me also say that one of the downspouts was painted as agreed but looked wrong once done. Jerry redid it in one of the other colors we chose without additional charge.

Response from Painting Pros
first of all...A B grade is not a bad report, but most members would definitely have given me an A on this one....this house is very big and old with many issues....I always do a walkthrough with the customer at the completion of the job...her husband did the walkthrough and was very satisfied and paid me without issue....the wife(Nancy)....calls me the next morning to complain about the beams in the carport, not being caulked....and she wants the downspout in B/Y painted another color.....re: the carport, they have told me that it is going to be torn down and rebuilt soon....naturally, I would assume the cracked out beams would be replaced as part of this process....never the less, I returned and caulked the beams and repainted them along with the downspout(which has been painted twice already)...this post is the first I heard of the light fixture and the beams being an issue....re: the lights....obviously we must have forgotten to screw the flood lights back in....in order to get them working would have only required the bulbs to be reinserted and screwed in....no damage to any fixture occurred during our work there....re: the beams( they are under the carport and serve no purpose other than they once held up a fence that is no longer there( they need to be removed)...what Nancy has failed to mention, is the 25 sq. ft. of stucco repair that matched perfectly, the repair to all but one exposed corbel( there was 9 of them in various stages of deterioration)THEY ALL LOOKED GREAT AND WERE LEFT IN VERY SOLID CONDITION, last was the trim on 2 seven ft tall windows, which had to be replaced and was an odd size(2.25 in X 2.1in), rough sawn....had to be custom milled through the lumber yard....all these repairs were perfect, and included in that $4K price tag....the home is 3/4 plywood sidng(T-111 type) and about 1/4 stucco....with a courtyard and rear patio area (mostly enclosed)...the front courtyard is enclosed with adobe style brick(all Painted)....the siding looks brand new....bricks totally solid and the stucco awesome...I was very happy with this outcome and told my crew what a great job they did.....the trim board( about 45 lin. ft.) she wants painted now would take min of 2 coats and must be cut-in on the top and bottom....I would like to see some one do this in an hour....all in all, she got a great deal for the money, but can only focus on what she doesnt like, instead of the bigger picture, which is that we did a great job on an old house....thanks for reading this post....Jerry w/ Painting Pros
