Overall service was very good. I do wish that the invoice would of been priced detailed; it just show the overall total of the work done, not the price of each part or labor costs.
Description of Work: My tentants heating went out. They were very timely with diagnosing the problem. Once the parts were in, the problem was repaired.

The entire process took one day to complete. The employees and the supervisor came into our home in a professional manner and completed all the installation with a minumum of disruption of our home. the manager even came back later in the day to teach us how to program the new digital thermastat and told us to call him if we had any question. He would be happy to drop by and reprogram the thermaste if we wanted anything changed.
Description of Work: Parnell Heating and Air replaced our entire heating and airconditioning system, thermastats and co2 sensors. they cleaned the airducts and installed an additonal return vent in an upstairs room near the main unit.

We had a very good experience with Buckley Parnell and a difficult experience with the NEST thermostat which ultimately proved incompatible with our duct system's zone control panel. As it turned out, replacing the A/C system was the easy part. Despite having a new system installed, we had continued difficulties -- which were ultimately due to the NEST thermostat system despite having that professionally installed by a NEST certified A/C company. Buckley Parnell were incredibly patient and helpful with us until we discovered that our problems originated with the thermostat. My only regrets were installing the NEST thermostats in the first place and then not calling Buckley Parnell sooner in order to fix the problem (they were the 3rd A/C company that we called).
Description of Work: The team at Buckley Parnell came out to help me with a NEST thermostat installation gone bad. What started with my placement of a thermostat at home led to the failure of my A/C system. A leak had developed in my system and 2 prior A/C companies had failed to fix or diagnose the problem. Buckley Parnell found the leak and after presenting me with my options, I decided to replace my system with their help. Very happy with the system and it's efficiency.

I had another company come out to clean and prepare the furnace for the winter season. The old system was 23 years old, clearly out of date and leaking exhaust pretty badly. They recommended a new system and I agreed to accept a bid from them. There bid was not top of the line equipment and it didn't even qualify for the SMUD and PG&E rebates. While their energy ratings for the equipment was better than the 23 year old stuff, I found out later that the equipment was not the top of the line. I also wanted a second opinion so I called Buckley Parnell based on ratings from Angies' List. There was quite a difference in the bids. Everything they offered was for my benefit. The caliber of equipment offered was the top of the line and on some of it I even got big rebates. I got both the SMUD and PG&E rebates. Even with the upgrade in equipment, their bid came in $2,500 less than the bid from the first company. On the day of installation, even the owner of the company stopped by to help. All the workers were very respectful and very efficient. They let me watch the installation and ask stupid questions. The whole installation including the new water heater, took just one day. This is a good group of people and I recommend them highly.

In at 7:30 am --out same day by 3:30pm -- Prompt, professional, and courteous service from the initial consultation to the completion of the project. The whole team had a clear focus on ensuring customer satisfaction regarding the technical installation of the system and follow up service and scheduled maintenance of the system. I have been using the system for about 6 months and it has been functioning great. Their sincere focus on customer service is refreshing. I would highly recommend Buckley Parnell and would definitely hire them again myself.

Brian Groom was the salesman who gave me the estimate. He arrived on time and thoroughly examined my current system and the ducting in the attic. After the walk-though, he gave me three options. Brian went over each option in detail, providing brochures and a page from a recent Consumer Reports issue on HVAC systems (which I appreciated) and Brian answered all my questions (I had a lot of them). He was missing one brochure but said he would email it to me. (I received the brochure later that night.) Brian had a laptop and portable printer with him. His three bids were printed on a company form and detailed exactly what equipment was being bid, the cost, discounts, and rebates. His bid also include the monthly payment if I elected to finance this through SMUD. It was a very professional presentation. I ended up getting bids from two additional companies before making my decision to go with Buckley Parnell. I elected to go with the least expensive option Brian presented because it met my heating and air conditioning needs. I never received any pressure from Brian to go with a more expensive option. On the day of the installation, the crew was about 40 minutes late, but I did receive a call that they were on their way. Three installers arrived and went to work. While it was estimated that it was an all-day job, the installers were done in about five hours. After the completion of the job, the installers left my garage and backyard exactly like it was when they arrived. I was asked multiple times to please let them know if I was unhappy about any aspect of the installation (I wasn't). I could tell that my satisfaction was extremely important. It was a great installation and I would not hesitate to recommend this company.

AC had stopped working. We had called out another company who were sort of insistent about both AC and furnace needing to be replaced which would be around ten thousand dollars. Buckley Parnell agreed with AC needing to be replaced but said they could service the old furnace and it should be fine. This saved us about $3500.00. They had a crew of three men who were very professional and took care to protect the carpets and completed the work in about 6 hours. They had new AC working with our old furnace and the Rheem AC they put in is keeping house very cool. They also installed a new thermostat and carbon monoxide detector. Their crew was also very careful to let us know when they needed access to room where we were keeping an indoor pet. We had been worried about pet getting outside, of course. They cleaned up after themselves thoroughly. We would definitely do business with them again.

However, we were told in an extended phone discussion that our AC unit was on the verge of collapse due to incipient compressor failure and likely coil leaks, and the repairman recommended a new unit (in the $6,000-$,7000 range, making it far and away the most expensive appliance we own). We scheduled a second opinion by an AC engineer we know with the following results: 1) The company said that our filter size (14" x 22") was too small for our 3 ton unit. The engineer said that his 3 tone unit had the same size filter at his home and was completely adequate. 2) The company said that our compressor was running 1/2 amp over rating, and was in a situation predictive of catastrophic failure. However, the engineer cleaned coils that release heat (like those on the bottom of a refrigerator) with a garden hose (took 1 minute). The company had done nothing to clean these coils. Then he measured power consumption by the compressor: 11.5 amps for a machine rated at 18 amps. 3) The company said that it suspected the coil was leaking (replacing coil and compressor is, the company said, more or less the price of a new unit). The engineer said the issue was how fast the unit was leaking; an unknown as it had never been serviced since we bought the house it cools, the leak could have been a 10 year leak or a one week leak. The engineer recommended maintenance next summer to determine the rate of leakage and the need for addressing it. All in all, we concluded that the company was upselling based on spurious diagnostics, and we no longer will do business with it. We strongly recommend that anyone facing AC unit replacement get at least two evaluations and avoid making rash decisions especially when the day is hot.
Description of Work: Our house AC/Heater was intermittently failing to work, so we picked the company from Angie's List. We paid $73 for a service visit and around $220 for 3 lbs of R22 coolant, which is on the high side but not uncompetitive, given the astronomical mark-up of coolant in the AC business. The company also removed ice from the cooling coil as well.

Response from Buckley Heat Air Solar
When I arrived at the residence, there wasn't anybody home. I was not able to go inside, but the Member had left the a/c on all day for me to perform the service call without him being home. I set up my ladder and opened up the unit on the roof. I found the evaporator coil to be a block of ice. I had to manually turn the heater on from the unit. I ran the heater for 45 minutes to thaw the ice and then turned back on the a/c and found the unit was low on R-22 refrigerant. I checked the amperage on the compressor and it was over full load. I also checked the amperage on the indoor fan. With the amperage difference from when the indoor fan compartment was opened to closed, I knew either the filter was dirty or the return was undersized. A 14'' x 24'' filter is undersized for a 3 ton a/c, it needs to be a minimum of 144 square inches per ton and 14'' x 24'' is adequate for systems up to 2 tons. After the unit was re-charged I checked the compressor amperage and it was running at 18.5 amps, actually over the allowable full load draw of 18 amps. The ambient temperature was 106 degrees at the time and the outdoor coil was not dirty. Obviously the ambient temperature and running water over the outdoor coil will effect the amperage draw on the compressor. I recommended to the Member to have me return at a time where he could be at the property to perform a load calculation at no charge and it would take a couple of hours. I explained to the Member that it appeared when the unit was installed; the installing company enlarged the size of the unit but had not enlarged the duct system to support the larger unit. I recommended that they should start considering replacing the unit and that the only way to determine the proper unit size and ducting size was to perform a Manual J Load Calculation. Without designing a new duct system and/or new equipment, the system is only going to struggle, causing high energy bills and an uncomfortable house. We cannot guarantee "peace of mind" when we know a system needs modifications, but we don't know exactly what modifications are needed because we have no access to the inside of the home. We have now made it our company policy that we will not be scheduling the service if a new customer cannot be home for our technicians to perform the service.

We are very happy with this company and its product!
Description of Work: From new A/C quote process through to installation completion, this compay exemplified the way companies should do business. They were timely with their quote (next day), covered all aspects of the job, kept me totally informed as the work progressed and were very professional. Brian Groom, my salesrep, was terrific. He was constantly on site during the install and even did the painting of some covers so they would blend into my home's exterior. He provided a temporary a/c during a very hot spell and I was very greatful. They put in two quality A/C units and I couldn't be happier. The units are quiet and keep the house very comfortable! I may have spent a few hundred more, but they were definitely worth it !!!

A/C quit on Saturday. Phoned Buckley Pannell Monday morning, July 2. Dan, a very friendly, professional, technician, arrived before noon. He checked the system out and determined that the condenser fan motor had died. The motor was replaced, the unit was cleaned and checked again and operating properly before 2:00pm. Cool again thirty minutes later! It could not have worked out better. Thanks Dan and Buckley Pannell!

Attempted to increase the temperature in the house for my father, but after I reset temperature, nothing happened. Heater just stopped working. Called Buckley Parnell first thing in the morning. The repairman arrived promptly and fixed the problem without any difficulty. Somehow the air conditioner and heater had been working together when the temperature decreased from the thermostat's set temperature, making the unit inefficient and noisy. Luckily for me it stopped working. The repairman reset the unit - problem fixed! No more problems with the heater or air conditioner. Huge difference in electric bill! Very professional and friendly. I highly recommend them!

I'm thoroughly pleased with the job Buckley Parnell did installing my new Air conditioning and heating system. They are one of four companies in my area to offer the duct sealing process called Areoseal which was very worth while in cutting down air-loss in our ducts. Installation went well, new system works great and included a modern setback thermostat that is easy to operate. They removed the old system and followed up after the fact to assure I was pleased with the job. I recommend them.

My A/C stopped working on Wednesday evening. I called Buckley Parnell Heating and Air Thursday am. They came out at 12n that day! John Buckle came out and I explained what was happening. He went to work immediately. He asked if I wanted to watch what he was doing. That's a first! Within the first few mins he knew what is was. He tested the capacitor and it was bad. He replaced the capacitor then came back in the house and checked to make sure it was working. While he was waiting for the air to kick in, he checked the inside unit. He also gave me tips about how to extend the life of my a/c. Truly appreciated! Before he left, he made sure he checked a couple different registers to make sure the air coming in was cool. Everything was working great! I had an excellent experience with this company and would recommend them to anyone. John was very personable and super helpful.

The Buckley Parnell team (3) arrived on time in the AM and went straight to work. They were able to removed the old units and install the new system in one day by 5PM. The guys were very professional and courteous. They consulted with me to ensure the ducts were in the proper location prior to any cutting out of the ceiling areas and placement of the CO detectotrs and temperature control. The entire process went very well. Buckley Parnell did some work for my parents some years ago and came highly recommended by them. The team at Buckley Parnell explained the reasons for the failings of our old unit and the preventative measures they intended to undertake during the installation of our new system. During the estimate phase, we took some time to discuss the failings of our old HVAC system and the possible soultions to avoid any pitfalls with the new system. This should prove to helpful in the future. The ultimate test will be when we hit the 100 degree heat this summer. Buckley Parnell has assured us that they will continue to follow up and make appropriate adjustments if needed to the system to meet our heating and cooling needs.
Description of Work: The team at Buckley Parnell Heat & Air installed a new Rheem AC and furnace system upstairs. Although the system was a bit pricy, they were able aptly to meet the other HVAC companys' quotes. The unit was comprised of a Rheem 95% horizontal flow 2 stage variable speed furnace with Classis 3.5 ton 16 Seer AC. The Buckley Parnell guys enlarged and added an additional return to ensure proper flow to the unit. They also added additional supply ducting to aid in heating and cooling of the upstairs and open balconary area. A new temperature control unit was installed in a more suitable location upstairs. Clean up was done well and to our satisfaction.
