The entire staff @ Buckley Parnell was super responsive and friendly. The consultant, Brian Groom, was very informative and did an excellent job of clearly explaining our options, and the cost/benefit of each. The installation was fast, efficient, timely and clean. I think the areas of the house where they worked were cleaner than before the installation began. The installers were every bit as polite, friendly and informative as Mr. Groom. I have had ZERO issues with the system, but I know that if there had been any problems, this company would have shown the same level of service after as they did prior to the installation. I will (and have) recommend Buckley Parnell highly to anyone, with full confidence in that recommendation.
Description of Work: Complete replacement of original central heating and air system in a 27 year old home. Included full inspection and sealing of original duct work (found to be in great shape - they did not recommend replacement). Included in our package was an electronic air filtration system (no more filters!), all permit fees, etc. They literally do everything required to get your system installed, with full permits, testing and up to code, for the estimated price of the work - no surprises at the end.

My air conditioner was working fine but the system is at least 15 years old and to my knowledge has never been serviced. I wanted the unit checked out to correct any problems before it broke in the middle of a heat wave. John Buckley came out and did a thorough check of the whole system. He made sure everything was clean and functioning properly. He gave me some great suggestions for setting the duel controls (upstairs and downstairs) and changing the directions the ceiling fans were running to make the system run more efficiently, and I can already tell a difference. He also offered me the opportunity to sign up for the complete year service, which includes a check of the heating system in the winter, so I'm looking forward to having that done as well!
Description of Work: I had a diagnostic call on my air conditioning unit. (Price paid includes a diagnostic call for my heater in January 2011.)

When our 20+ year old heating and air unit began giving us problems, we thought it best to get a new unit instead of continually calling out get the old one fixed. Finding the right heating and air unit as well as the right company to install it is not an easy task. After much research and interviewing 6 different heating and air companies in the Sacramento area, we chose Buckley Parnell Heating and Air. Salesman, Brian Groom, came to our house on time. He was friendly, courteous, knowledgeable and took the time to understand our heating and air needs. Since my wife has allergies, we wanted a system which provides very clean air. He recommended an energy efficient Trane system which included a CleanEffects air filtration system. The cost of the system as well as the installation cost was comparable to other estimates we received. However, we were really motivated by their ability to install the CleanEffects air filtration system in a difficult space when other companies said it was too difficult to do. We were really impressed that the owner, Brian Buckley, even came out to monitor the work on the day it was installed. They did a great job adding additional vents to our bedroom and living room, which really made a difference to the comfort of our home. The work was completed in a timely manner. The installers, Jake Buckley and a co-worker, worked straight through without a break or lunch getting the job done in one afternoon. Jake made sure the house was kept clean during and after the work was done. Our salesman returned a few days later to make sure everything was working properly, to answer any questions and to make sure that we were satisfied with our system. I have never heard of Buckley Parnell before searching for a heating and air unit, but I'm glad that chose them. They may not be the cheapest contractors, but the most reasonable. I really recommend Buckley Parnell if you have heating and air needs.

I called on the first day over 100 degrees this summer. Since I was on hold for several minutes, I went to the web site and requested service via email. They called back within 2 hours. They were able to schedule an appointment in 48 hours (which I thought was reasonable since I waited until the hottest day). They estimated late morning and called before coming out at 10:30am. I had a $20 coupon from Angie's List which they honored (it was $165 before the coupon). Dan was very friendly, professional and efficient. (He even put shoe covers on every time he stepped into the house.) He completed everything in less than 30 minutes. I would definitely use them in the future.
Description of Work: 5 year old A/C was not keeping house cool enough on days over 100 degrees. Dan assessed and added refrigerant which fixed the problem. He also tightened the screws to make the unit quieter (which I didn't even think to ask him to do, so it was a bonus!)

It was an outstanding experience from beginning to end! Brian Groom quoted us and met with me in the evening to fit my schedule. He listened to my questions and was patient and complete in his explanation of all things heating and air. I received a few other quotes from other companies (good experiences) but ultimately went with Buckley Parnell because of the 10 year guarantee and the promise of excellence in everything they do. The install team was respectful to my wife, my kids and my home. They cleaned up everything each day and started back to work early the next morning, on time! It's a family company and I felt like part of the family. The system is working great and I'm looking forward to my lower energy costs and years of worry free use. It was a great experience on a big ticket item, but I feel like I made the right choice.
Description of Work: I got the works! New Trane energy efficient 3.5 ton heat pump and all new duct work installed. I opted for the super Trane filter system and also had them relocate the condenser unit to the other side of my house.

Brian G. came over the day after I first called, and got a bid over proptly. Over the next week or two I called him several times and we discussed our options, either to save money or to splurge on something a little nicer. He always was very patient in explaining those options and providing multiple pricing bids. Once we settled on the system, he remained very involved in overseeing the installation and any post-installation questions. The installers themselves were wonderful, one of the two being the son of the owner. They left everything as clean as when they came. The day after the installation, a fan over the stove didn't work, and within a couple of hours the installer came back and fixed whatever had gone wrong.
Description of Work: The company installed a central heat and air system, including ducting, in a one-story house with no previous central system.

The workmen arrived a few minutes earlier than expected. They lay mats throughout the house. The workers were very professional and courteous. Everything was thoroughly explained and the instructions of the touchscreen thermostat were explained and demonstrated. Follow-up will be done next week. The company stands behind its equipment and services with a 10-year warranty. The traffic areas were vacuumed after the mats were removed. The total expense will be reduced with the rebates that have been offered, that amount just over $2000. We were very impressed with the service and the staff, starting with the office, and through completion of the job.
Description of Work: Brian Buckley came and gave an estimate last week (the week before the work was completed) for a new heating, a/c system and new hot water heater. The new system was installed in about 8 hours.

I was able to maker an appointment for the day after my call, and the office called that morning to let me know the technician was on the way. Dan arrived promptly, quickly identified and fixed the problem, and he didn't try to sell me anything else (like a new system), which I appreciate. I'll likely call them again to have Dan come out to service my cooling system in April or May.
Description of Work: Dan found a switch that had prevented my system from running, and he also tested and re-calibrated the gas supply module that had been tripping another sensor. He made sure that the system would then run as expected.

John Buckley arrived on time. He was friendly and personable. He checked all the temperatures and vents in the rooms. He was very knowledgeable and gave me a lesson in heaters 101. He could have easily stuck me with a big bill but told me everything was fine and that I just owed him the service call. I was very amazed and pleased at his honesty. I will definitely call them again and will highly recommend them to everyone I know.

Brian Groom sales representative met to give me estimate and details of types of furnace which would meet my needs. Brian is very knowledgeable about product and most helpful in getting any requests accomplished. Arranged for permits and duct inspection on completion. Made sure that the install date fit my schedule. Jake Buckley and Jimmy his assistant arrived right on time for the install and were very polite and efficient at installing the furnace. They always asked for permission before doing anything that involved the install from coming into the house to going into the back yard to complete venting. They kept me informed of progress during the morning. Made sure that the doors to outside were kept closed so that pets didn't get out and cold weather didn't get in. As they were doing the install, they found that a previous nameless vendor who replaced ductwork a year earlier had left trash up in the attic and installed air vent louvers in the living room upside down. Jake and Jimmy removed the excess trash and corrected the louver install. Jake also fixed the noisy air return problem when he discovered what had been causing it for several years. Mats were placed on the rug to keep it clean, they vacuumed up after finished and removed all parts and pieces of old unit. During the install, Brian the representative as well as the owner of the company checked in to make sure everything was fine. Jake did a thorough explanation of the programming of the thermostat and said to call him if there were any questions about the thermostat or the unit. I was very impressed by the professionalism of everyone involved with the installation of the unit from start to finish. Except for the fact that I have a new furnace and thermostat, you wouldn't know that they had been in the house.

Well, fabulously - see previous comment.
Description of Work: A major loud blow-out boom sounded the signal that we needed fairly quick action on a repair for our heating system. John Buckley arrived when scheduled (an unheard of 2 hour window of time) - a call just prior to his arrival was the alert. Upon thorough inspection and reinforcing information from other experts, it was determined that a significant part needed replacement and the unit had to be shut down for safety reasons. The gas was igniting immediately without the requisite safety delay. Since the heating system is old, the part was not available locally. Naturally being Christmas week, the part ordered from New York, the corporate office headquarters, would arrive for delivery the following Monday. A week without heat. John Buckley felt very badly, we were resigned to some time by the fire and clothed in down comforters and the like. Apparently, the young woman who orders the parts for Buckley and Parnell felt badly, too. Somehow or another she called around the State and found just what we needed. By Christmas Eve our furnace was pumping out the warm stuff - and not a moment too soon. Sacramento was just beginning a spate of below freezing weather. Buckley and Parnell were our Santa Claus this year. They more than exceeded our expectations in service, professionalism, and quality. We feel we got a fair price. They could have charged us anything they wanted - but the price was reasonable. Hooray for companies who are in the business of solving problems and helping customers. Thanks for keeping our old tin can alive just a little bit longer. We won't forget.

My heat had been out for a week while I attempted to narrow down what was wrong. It seemed to be either the fan motor relay or the fan motor itself of my air handler. Jim removed the fan motor and saw that the oil had become gunky and thus the blades weren't turning freely. He took the unit to his truck, cleared the gunk, added new oil, and reinstalled and that fixed the problem. He also checked the amperage to make sure it was within the range for a properly functioning fan motor, and it was. He then checked the condenser outside and topped off the freon. It was a relief that the problem was an easy and cheap fix and this was due to Jim's honesty in telling me what was going on with the fan motor. I am completely happy with the service Buckley Parnell provided me this morning.
Description of Work: The technician oiled the fan motor of the air handler of my multi-phase heating/AC system and topped off my freon.

The thermostat broke on my house so I first called Bell Brothers. They came out ( for a $79 fee) and looked at the thermostat and quoted me $252 to replace the thermostat. Then the tech went up on the roof, checked the Heat unit itself and told me that I had a cracked heat exchanger and that would be an extra $1,187. Well that was too much so I called around to get some more quotes. Basically paid Bell Brothers $79 to give me a quote. The money isn't even applicable to the actual repair either. Got a quote from Buckley of $658 plus $160 for the thermostat. They had to wait for the part but got the everything fixed in a few days. The sales lady was responsive and called me back and I saved $$$ by getting more quotes.

Brian evaluated our system, confirmed that it was inadequate to meet the demands of the house (Typical of a tract home, however nice) and suggested replacing the condenser and the air handler with one that wouldn't deteriorate and distribute "dust" as our old unit was doing. He also suggested a second air return downstairs and repositioning certain long run ducts to different locations on the plenum in order to increase the air flow to remote regions of the house. There was absolutely no pressure to do anything because a.) our system was still operable, and b.) Brian understood the effects of the current economy. The crew, Brian, son Jake, and Jimmy, showed up exactly on time, finished the job in one day (!) and left the house cleaner than they found it. They all showed incredible professionalism and impeccable manners. This was not even close to an easy installation given the tight attic space and the construction skills required to route the new air return and duct between floors and out to the attic through a cabinet! The system itself is so quiet we can't tell when the fan is on unless we're near a register and feel the air moving. They even did all the paperwork we needed to collect several rebates and the tax credit offered with this new system. We're looking forward to years of energy efficient comfort, clean air and enhanced property value. Buckley Parnell Heat & Air has our profound gratitude and our UNQUALIFIED RECOMMENDATION!!!

I was reminded of what excellent service this company provides when they visited last week for our one-year maintenance check. The original installation was seamless. For starters, we received excellent advice on what heating & A/C units were most appropriate for our home (based on size, airflow, energy efficiency). They took the time to walk us through how to operate the system, encouraging us to call if we had any questions. On their recent visit, they ensured that everything was working properly, helping me solve an airflow issue in one room that always seemed colder than the others in the winter. Their customer service is just excellent--I highly recommend them.

In the middle of a typical triple-digit Sacramento heat wave, the air conditioning compressor in my Rheem HVAC unit stopped putting out cold air. I called Buckley Parnell, and Dan arrived early the next afternoon. He was very professional, and explained everything he was doing as he worked. He determined that the run capacitor (think that's the right term) had failed. He said that this happens a lot in systems like mine. He replaced the capacitor, gave the old one to me, inspected the unit for any other issues (none found), then waited for me to confirm that the system worked again before packing up and leaving.

We assumed we would have to have a new inducer motor installed. After testing the unit the Buckley Parnell tech told us the problem was simply that the heater's vacuum tube was plugged. He cleaned it out and the heater now works perfectly. The tech was punctual and friendly. Total cost $83. This is the first time we have used this company. We will definitely call them in the future.
Description of Work: We have a 10 year old Lennox heater/AC ground unit. A year ago March when our regular service company was doing routine maintenance on our unit we asked them to look at the heater because it seemed unusually noisy. The tech told us the inducer assembly needed to be replaced ($530 parts and labor). We decided to wait until the following fall since the heater still worked. However, in the fall when another tech from the same company came out to install the part he told us we didn't need it. He said the noise was caused by a loose part rattling. He screwed the part down at no charge but the noise started up again after only a few days. However, since the heater worked, we didn't complain. Four months later the heater stopped working. We could hear the inducer motor came on but the burners wouldn’t ignite and the main blower motor wouldn’t start. That's when we decided to call a different company (Buckley Parnell) for an opinion.

After checking reports on Angie's list, I called Buckley Parnell because of the glowing reports. They were able to get someone out the next day. The phone service was friendly and courteous. The repairman, Dan, was very friendly and quickly spotted the issues. Our house was a resale and I did not know we had a filter in the furnace and where it was located. Dan showed me the filter location and took the time to clean it and give me a couple of maintenance tips. The drain hoses also were old and cracked. BP ordered new ones and Dan came back a few days later to install those. Again, the service was friendly, fast and efficient. We also discussed a couple of HVAC system issues and I was hooked up with the salesperson, Brian. Brian came out to look at our system (which is cobbled together from several different manufacturer's equipment of differing ages) and gave me an estimate to replace those parts that need replacing. I appreciated that there was no pressure and no attempt to up sell or tell us we needed to replace the entire HVAC system. While we can't afford the work right away, we are saving up and will definitely have BP do the work.
Description of Work: Our furnace stopped putting out warm air. The filter was plugged and the drain hoses were cracked. The filter was cleaned and the hoses replaced. Everything is working great now!
