Richard worked so closely with us to fit in their work around other contractors and delays. As soon as the holidays are over, we are going to start working with them again to remove the popcorn ceiling from each bedroom and repaint. We highly recommend them!

We are about to start another project in our home and we immediately called on Rich from System 1 to give us a bid. You see, we have used System 1 before on two other projects. Rich responds very quickly to messages left. He usually comes down the next day and gives a bid on the spot. How refreshing. He is so professional and knows his craft well - both what they can do and cannot do. The people that work for Rich and Brian arrive on time, communicate well, take very good care of your property, finish when promised and clean up well before they leave. Our major project involved 17 foot high ceilings with a large defect in the highest corner. They not only repaired that ceiling to better than new, but protected our expensive grass-cloth without a single damage, even during the skim coating, priming and painting of the ceilings and walls in multiple rooms. Our second project was just straight forward popcorn removal from our bedroom ceiling. Thank you Rich & Brian. We would recommend System 1 without any reservation.

These guys are fantastic from the initial consultation to the final product. I'll make this short and simple. I have a 600 sq ft, first story condo in the West Valley. They installed 4 recessed lights in the kitchen, 4 recessed lights in the living area with a dimmer switch and installed a center light in the bedroom. They ceilings are still in the rough state because you have to wait a few days before you can paint it. The workmanship was great and the 3 guys were very nice and answered all my questions. I bought a larger home that still has acoustic ceilings, so my wife and I will be having them do the work there as well.

Rooms look great. Painters on time, professional and thorough. House wasn't as accessible during painting as I would have liked but that comes with having much of the house being painted at once. Colors look great and I would (and will) use them again. It's been one-stop shopping with this company (popcorn ceiling removal, lighting, and now painting). Final cost and work time matched estimate. I highly recommend at least meeting with these guys and you may find yourself using them too.

Before the job began and Richard came out, he said there might be additional charges to replace damaged drywall. Our walls had some major termite damage, and yes - we needed to replace all the drywall for those rooms. That added a substantial cost to the project at the last minute. The guys did great work on removing the paneling and putting up the drywall. There were some major scratches and gouges in the walls afterwards, but the foreman on the job said the painters would patch all those spots up before painting. They didn't. Spent a whole day taping off walls to get ready to paint, and then said they would come back the next day. They painted quickly and then said they were done. After we could go back and inspect walls, none of the spots that were scratched or gouged were spackled. It was unbelievable and noticeable. I contacted Richard who said that the guys would stay and fix the job. Well, they did. They quickly spackled and brushed on a touch up, with no heathering or blending. The painting foreman wasn't there for day 2 and the two painters rushed through the project. Every single spot they touched up, you can tell - they sprayed the walls, so touching up with a brush left brush marks or patches that look terrible. I was unhappy with the results and contacted Richard. I took photographs of the many blemishes that were noticeable. He said he would come out a few weeks later to look at it. He did - didn't seem all that concerned with this. Said he was very busy but might be able to send out a painter to fix it several weeks later. That is the last time I heard from him. It was disappointing to see what a terrible job was done. Proper prep would have left few, if any problem areas. Experienced painters would never have left gouges on brand new drywall before spraying it. I wish I could give a better review, and I hesitated about writing this when we first had the work done. Months later, the paint still looks terrible in those spots. It is still noticeable. It is a shame. I liked working with Richard and his team, but the finish work was simply shoddy. I had a lot more interior painting that needed to get done before getting house ready to sell, but I will be seeking another painter to fix the problem areas and paint the rest of the house.
Description of Work: We are repeat System 1 customers. We had all acoustic ceilings removed a few months before and they had done excellent work. When we were ready to have paneling removed and those walls painted, I didn't hesitate to contact System 1.

THE GOOD System 1's quote was reasonable and was able to schedule us in promptly. They sold me on a "light cloud" finish of the ceiling. The idea is that a somewhat random finish would better hide imperfection in the ceiling. On actual work days (2 days), I stuck around to watch them work. Well, they covered every wall and floor from top to bottom but it was still tough to see your house in complete mess and chaos. They worked fast and cleaned up well after themselves, I'll give them that. But not every home owner will have the stomach to watch this done to their own house and every belonging in it. We also used the electricians they partnered with to install some 30 recessed lights throughout the house. These guys were great. I would hire them independently again. System 1 then patched the resultant holes as part of their partnership. THE BAD My general contractor who was doing some reno work subsequently had real questions about the "unfinished" state of the ceiling. Some areas were simply overlooked particularly the patch work around the new and old light fixtures. System 1 did come back to fix these issues. The "light cloud" turned out to be okay as no one honestly stares at the ceiling anyway. But in all, I still see unsmooth path work around lights. THE UGLY For some reason it did not fully registered in my head that the price only include removal of popcorn ceiling and smooth/skim coating of the ceiling. It did not including painting! Further more, the removal process also pealed off paint on the top edge of every wall, forcing us to eventually have the whole house painted (a few thousand dollars!!). They did mention the the potential chipped paint in their disclaimer. But please know that YOU WILL MOST LIKELY NEED THE WHOLE HOUSE REPAINTED!! FINALLY Would I use them again? Yes, their price and speed of work is hard to beat. But please familiarize yourself with the whole process and understand the associated cost before jumping in naively.

We recently purchased our first home--a 1964 ranch-style house. The previous owner neglected the property and the ceilings were in need of TLC and updating. My mom found System 1 through a search on the Internet. She was impressed that they have a great deal of experience dealing with plaster-based popcorn ceilings, which can often be more difficult to remove. Richard came out to inspect the house and provide a quote. He was super friendly and easy to talk with. Even better, he took his time to explain the process, timeline, and provide details to us about the job, which has been important to us as new home owners. We liked that he is licensed and insured. But was sold us was his complete confidence in the work and that he whipped out an iPad to show us all of his A ratings on Angie's List. His crews spent two days on our job. The first crew did the plaster work and left no mess. The knockdown finish they added to our ceilings looks fantastic (we didn't want smooth ceilings). We had to do some work of our own to the house, so we waited a month to schedule System 1 come back and prime/paint the ceilings. Again, the crew did a great job, left no mess, and helped to move the furniture back in the room. We had slightly cheaper quotes for similar work, but we found out those contractors weren't insured so we didn't want to hire them. Richard provided a solid package and stood behind the work. We're glad we went with System 1 and would recommend them to our friends and neighbors.

This was a great experience! I have wanted to have this done for several years, but dreaded the mess that I believed would be associated with it. I found System 1 on Angies's List & went with them because of their great reviews. Richard, one of the owners of this family business, came out right on time to do a walk-through to give me details on what the process would be, & he made suggestions as to how many recessed lights should be placed & where. Since I'm not a fan of artificial lighting, we discussed how many dimmers should be placed. Richard also advised me as to what items should be removed from each room, but I was so surprised at how much didn't need to be! That was a huge relief to me, as it was a lot less work than I had assumed there would be. On the first day, the crew arrived exactly on time. They immediately began covering the house with plastic when I was leaving for work at 8:30. By 4:15, they called to let me know the job was done! The ceiling had been scraped, plastered, & all of the lights had been installed. I left work a little early to check the job & was so thrilled with what I saw! The electrician phoned me 4 times during the day to discuss placement of the lights with relationship to the dimmers. Due to joists in the ceiling where he had planned on running several of the lights, the plan had to be altered a bit, but it came out perfect, if not better than originally planned. I felt so confident with the 2 electricians that I plan to use them in the future for independent work as needed. The plan was for the painters to come 4 days later in order to give the plaster time to dry, & once again, they arrived exactly on time. It took the whole day for them to paint the ceilings & the 2 walls, but it came out beautiful. We discussed color & they went to a local paint store to have the correct paint color made up. With respect to the price of the whole job, I'm not sure what I was expecting, but all in all it was worth every penny. I think the painting cost a bit more than my own painter would have cost, and I had the option of using whomever I wanted, but I went with Richard's painter so that the job would maintain the flow & be completed on time. No regrets there. The whole job was a lot less messy than I anticipated. Most of the clean up was after the painters finished, as they had a few very small areas that needed to be scraped of the leftover acoustic material in the corners, etc. They even offered to vacuum for me! Every one of the guys who worked on this job was just wonderful. They were all so friendly & thoughtful. I can't recommend System 1 enough! This company was fantastic!

To start Richard was very quick to arrange a quote meeting and even offered an earlier time when his schedule was re-arranged. His quote was thorough and made quick decisions and offered the best options for the work I was looking to have done. Very nice and personable. Once the work was scheduled the workers arrived on time and immediately assessed the areas and went to work with little to no concerns. The job required only 2 men for the ceiling and 2 men for the lighting. The ease with which they used working in the same areas was impressive. The original quote for the work time was 7am-7pm. The ceilings were finished by 3pm with little to no mess. (My family gatherings are far more messy than these guys). The lighting was finished by 5pm and once again no mess. The quoted price for the ceiling was exactly what I paid which was great. The lighting (including all the retiring, lighting, spacing and fan installation with remotes) was very reasonable and close to what was quoted.
Description of Work: System 1 removed popcorn ceiling in 6 rooms, 3 hallways and a walk-in closet. As well as installed 6 recessed lighting fixtures, installed 4 ceiling fan/lights (including re-routing wiring), replaced ceiling fan (with new light box). And I still in the midst of scheduling some painting.

They were very good. The owner came out in person and gave us an estimate. Even though they were booked up for six weeks they still gave us an estimate. We needed the job done right away so they gave us names of other companies and they said to call back if we had no luck. So I called them back and they came out on a Sunday and did the work. I was really impressed with that. It was really nice of them. They said they would be here at 7am and they were there on the dot. They did not make a mess and the quality of the work was outstanding.

Great! The crew arrived EARLY! They promised that the ceiling would be removed in one day (I admit I had my doubts!), but they delivered. They gave me an approximate completion time, which they met. They stayed until the job, including clean-up, was done. I made sure to follow their instructions regarding preparing the furniture and accessories...they did some additional work, moving items when they arrived. I also had System 1 return to paint the ceilings. Richard made some paint and finish suggestions. The homeowner can provide the paint or have System 1 provide the paint. Richard's suggestions were excellent...coming from a lot of experience. I have already recommended System 1 to a friend. She was also very pleased!
Description of Work: Cost does not include the recessed lights I had installed plus the painting of the ceiling, both of which were extra. Homeowner could install own lights and paint. It was easier and more efficient for me to have System 1 do the lights and painting. They returned several days later to paint...which they finished in one day. I made the personal choice to not have the closet ceilings removed...but they were willing to do the work.

We contacted System 1 in mid April for a quote to remove the 'popcorn' ceiling in our house. The house is appox. 2400 square feet and it was everywhere, including closets. The quote was good and we scheduled the work. System 1's schedule was full so work was to commence in mid-May. It took about 2 days and no more popcorn! They showed up when they said...everytime and stayed a full day. I was impressed with the work and professionalism that the crew showed. They were efficient. In additon they did some repairs and drywall work. It looked great. We also booked them to paint the interior of the house. Again, they were quite busy, but we scheduled in mid June for the painting, which worked out well as we has some other repairs needed to be completed by other vendors prior to painting. Richard was professional in his dealings with us by letting us know any changes to the schedule, well in advance so that we could adjust any of the other work. Not often do you get that kind of consideration with repair/construction situations. Painting was an 8 day process and they did a great job! The walls, ceilings, molding all looked great when done. It was a new house! I truly appreciated the way in which the various crews conducted themselves. They made a potentially stressful process, not stressful! And for that I am truly grateful. This is one vendor that I will happily put in my Rolodex for future work!

So, i bought this old house late last year and really, really wanted the ugly popcorn ceilings removed. My ceiling are vaulted, with beams and zig zags and I was worried about picking the right contractor to do the job. Not to mention the fact that I could see old water stains coming through the drywall and didn't know what to expect. The System 1 owner came out and definitely knew his stuff....didn't seem fazed by anything he saw and was able to provide an estimate on the spot. The price was right, and more importantly, he came off as very knowledgable and professional -- so I gave him the job. His crew showed up right on time and were very punctual and professional. I had to work, so I let them in and they called me about an hour before they were done so I could came back and pay them for the work. The house looked soooo good. Unbelievably good...so much more modern and clean. I don't know how they did it as the ceilings are super high, but I'm guessing they can fly. It looked really good. They taped everything off to minimze the mess and left the place really clean. Much cleaner than I would have expected given all the popcorn that was removed. I had also hired them to paint the ceiling. It takes abaout three days to dry and we had scheduled the painting to be done the following Saturday. Just like the first crew, they showed up right on time and did a great job. My house looks very modern and I couldn't be more leased. Also important to note that they removed all the light fixtures so the ceiling are completely redone. No popcorn what-so-ever! I highly recommend System 1 as they did a great job, conducted themselves very professionally and din't gouge me on the price. I should also note that I didn't get nickel/dimed on drywall issues or anything like that...they just took care of business and didn't charge a nickel more than the estimate.

Originaly the owner came out and gave us a written quote. We could tell that he really new his business. We were told they would arrive between 8:00am and 8:30am. They actually arrived at 7:30am which was wonderful. They were extremely professional. Our house is 14,450 square feet with cathedral and two story ceilings and we assumed it would take them all day. We left and about 3:30pm we received a phone call letting us know they were finished. We returned to our home and found they had done an incredible job. We had expected that it would take a full day. The work was great, the people were great and the price was less than 2/3s of the lowest bid we received from anyone else. I highly recommend System 1 Inc.

The work was done quickly and professionally. Most of it looked nice except a few areas which could have been finished better... you can see grooves in the ceiling that were not smoothed out. I only had to do some minor clean up after the work. Paint from the walls were removed by the tape used to hold up the tarps to protect the walls. Their contract states that they are not responsible for the paint removed on the walls so make sure you have extra paint to touch up the walls if you were not planning to repaint the walls.

I had Richard from System 1 remove our existing plaster popcorn ceilings. Being plaster acoustic ceilings, these weren?t just the ?wet it and it falls down? kind. System 1 is a family business, they specialize in this type of ceiling, and when you meet Richard its obvious you?re meeting a guy who really understands what?s he doing, and is passionate about his family business. After spending time with him, understanding the removal process, and the work they do, I knew System 1 was the right way to go. Richard was very willing to work with us on all aspects of the job to make it fit our budget and schedule. In terms of the work itself, his crew were respectful, clean/tidy, and worked fast. There were absolutely no issues what-so-ever. It?s worth making this point: I?ve had popcorn ceilings removed before by someone other than System 1. There?s a difference between just removing them, and actually making them look good. The ceilings we now have are absolutely beautiful - they?ve changed the look and feel of the entire house, which feels cleaning and substantially larger then before. They also did a fantastic job of working around our existing light fixtures, some regular, some recessed. We?re having a lot of work done to our house right now, and I don?t think anything has had such a big of an impact as System 1?s work on the ceilings. I would heartily recommend them to anyone, and if we find ourselves in another house with popcorn ceilings, I know exactly who to call. Richard is also a very nice individual to work with, which is just the icing on the cake.
Description of Work: Richard at System 1 first estimated and then performed the work of removing our existing plaster ceiling and re-plastering it. The entire popcorn area was approx. 1650sqft, which included rooms, hallways, and inside cupboards. The work including patching existing holes and cracks, working around light fixtures, scraping down the existing popcorn, applying a bonding resin, and then a new plaster coat on all the ceilings.

I am so pleased with my decision to use System 1 for my acoustic ceiling removal. We did not have System 1 paint as we decided to do it ourselves. Richard was very helpful and responsive. He offered a very fair. He was clear up front that there was the possibility that they would need to dry-wall over the ceiling if the condition of the underlying material was not good and let me know what the price would be if that happened. The underlying ceiling was in good shape and this was not necessary, but it was nice he was upfront about it. They worked me into the schedule quickly. The work was completed in around 6 hours and I am very pleased with the result. Both Richard and the gentleman who performed the work were very knowledgeable and helpful.

I must have called 10 different contractors, all of which either gave us insane bids ($10,000 JUST to remove popcorn and re-plaster) or didn't even give us a bid because it was "too much work". In my last ditch effort, I searched Angie's List one more time and found System 1. I immediately felt hopeful because all they do is popcorn ceilings so I felt confident that they would be able to do the work and give us a fair price. I called Richard and set up a time to get a bid. He walked through our house and showed me two different options of plaster for our ceilings. I told him we wanted overhead lighting installed and painted. For all of that work, he quoted us $5,000, most of which was to install 13 total recessed lights that needed a circuit installed since there wasn't one to work with. We thought it was a more than reasonable price for the amount of work and the difference it would make to our house. The crew showed up around 7:30 and had our entire house taped off and covered in plastic ready to go. They were very conscious of protecting our walls and furniture from the water and overall mess. They had most of our house totally scraped and plastered at the end of day 1. One guy came out the next day to finish 2 more rooms. Then a week later after the plaster dried, they guys were out to paint our ceilings. We always say that getting the popcorn removed and the lighting installed was the best thing we could have done for our house. The rooms are brighter and much less dingy looking. System 1 did an excellent job and we would definitely recommend them to friends. Their electrician also did a great job and we made sure to keep his card for any future electrical needs we have.
Description of Work: We had popcorn ceilings throughout our entire 1900 sq foot house except for the kitchen and two bathrooms. We even had popcorn ceilings in our closets! We didn't have any overhead lighting in either of our two living rooms. We had System 1 remove all popcorn ceilings, re-plaster our ceilings, install recessed lights in two living rooms and a hallway and paint all of our ceilings.

We have been wanting to get rid of acoustic ceilings for years, but dreaded the hassle. We looked around and got other quotes, but System1 had the best quote and with the least amount of disruption to our home. They did several bedrooms, two hall areas, a walk in closet and a family room. All told, 2 1/2 days of work spread over a Thursday, Friday and a Monday, and we had the ceilings we wanted! We also added in recessed can lights at the same time. We even got a discount for mentioning Angie's List. The crews were patient and helpful, even when our cats escaped before they started working on the first day. Note to pet owners - do a good job of securing them before the guys start working, because they will be freaked out by the noise if wrapping a room in plastic and tape! Very little mess was left with acoustic removal. Mostly stuff I tracked into other areas of house, actually. The painters left a few splotches on our porch on way out - should be easy enough to clean, though. I am not sure if I would choose the flat paint for ceiling, though... It is much more difficult to put the blue paint tape up without marking the freshly painted ceilings. I think I would have chosen eggshell, if I had to make the paint finish choice again. They do leave extra paint for touch ups after they leave. Great experience. Will hire them when we remove paneling for our next project! Thanks Richard and crews- you are awesome!
Description of Work: Great experience -highly recommend this company!
