Description of Work: Put up front fence with gate, and repaired portions of back fence. the new fence boards have been splitting at the beginning of this year. it has only been 1 year and it looks bad. I am very disappointed.

+ 0 moreIt was the first time we EVER had a contractor walk away from a job because we wouldn't pay him more money for a mistake that he made. It's against the law in California to charge a customer more than the job quote unless both parties agree, but Kirk wasn't going to give up trying. We ended up having another company finish the picket fence (it turned out beautifully) and we also asked for part of the money back from Willard that we paid in advance because it was for more than just the materials. We had to send more than one letter, Kirk's daughter sent us invoices of what they paid for the materials but it wasn't adding up, and eventually we compromised and only got back part of what was owed to us. No respectable fence company charges a customer in advance, and we knew we didn't have to pay for the entire job ahead of time, but we did pay for the materials so Kirk wouldn't have another fit. He was very unprofessional. We also discovered just yesterday, 7/27/2011, that his license has been suspended. You can check the CSLB website yourselves for the license status of almost any contractor in California. Willard Fencing's license is under a Contractors Bond Suspension.
Description of Work: Well, we checked the box above that states the company performed the work, but what Kirk Willard's employee actually did was drop off the materials, the pickets were cut wrong, they took them back and had to have Payless Supply recut them (the guy doesn't have his own saw), then they wanted US to pay for it! Not the wood -- we paid for that -- Kirk wanted us to pay the extra $250 for him having the pickets cut wrong and having to take them back to be recut. When we refused, he yelled over the phone and was out of control, and then they walked off the job. Because we paid for the materials and we kept them, it wasn't just a phone quote -- we actually had first hand experience with how Willard Fencing does business, so that's why we checked the box.
