Chico Roofing's bid was competitive with two others we received. Bill Crane was prompt in answering all our questions as we compared bids. Our roof was completed within three days. The roofers were experienced and conscientious. Our property was left clean (nail and staple free). We feel we got a good quality roof at a fair price. The company delivering shingles caused the electrical connection to a ceiling fan to vibrate loose. Chico Roofing fixed the problem. We highly recommend Chico Roofing.

It was great. They came out and it took a few times but they did a great job.

Overall I was very pleased with the quality of the work performed.

After making contact with three local companies, discussing options and securing bids, we went with Chico Roofing Company. Their bid was easy to understand, they had the ability to perform the work around our schedule and they ensured a timely finish for our job. Since we had many questions about materials, etc., we appreciated the ease with communication, both by phone and email. There were no last minute surprises or problems and the men doing the work were friendly, always busy and professional. All in all we are very pleased with our experience and the finished product.

Before joining angies list, I had three estimates done on my roof. I was pretty unimpressed with the estimates. Not once did any of them get on my roof, take measurements, and give me an itemized list. Instead, they took one look at the house, and having done similar houses in the neighborhood, they simply gave me a number. After joining angies list, I had two more estimates done. I chose the two listed with A ratings, Greene and Son, and Chico Roofing Company. What a difference! Both came out and did a thorough estimate, answering all my questions while they were here. I was particularly impressed with Bill Crane of Chico Roofing Company. VERY professional, and very nice. When I got Bill's estimate, I was thrilled. Several hundred less than any previous estimate, I was able to include a solar powered attic fan - something I knew I needed but wasn't sure if I could afford. One week later, work started. The project took 3.5 days for them to complete. They started pretty early each morning, which I don't blame them for given the summer heat, but definitely was loud by about 7am. I was pleased to see that in one area of my side yard where there are rocks, they put down a sheet to keep debris from getting permanently embedded. The workers were all respectful, and the job done looks fabulous. Maybe the most impressive thing about Chico Roofing Company (and Bill Crane) came when it was time to pay the bill. Not only did Bill honor the 10% off to Angies list members, saving me hundreds more, but he took the time to get up in the attic and get my solar powered fan hooked up to house power for night/evening operation. To top it off, he helped me remove a rusty downspout and is currently having his contracted rain gutter company make me a new one. I'll have to pay for the new downspout, of course, but what a great thing to be able to check it off my list, and the price was right. (haven't gotten the bill yet, but was told it will come in around $50) If you are looking at getting your roof done make sure you call these guys. Another tip - Bill has a variety of composite shingle brands available. When you meet with him, he will show you these. I asked a lot of questions and narrowed in on Malarkey. The difference in cost between 30yr and 40yr was...get this...$200. For the whole roof!!! I won't have to deal with my roof again until well after I am retired...sahweet!

They were very good and they did a good job. He was very prompt in responding to my phone calls for an estimate. He was the only one that offered a reference list and he was the only one that physically brought the estimate with him to discuss it with me. The rest of them either mailed it or emailed it. He seemed to give a more personal feel to the services that he was doing. The one problem that I did have was that he did not pay the roofing supplier and a Mechanic's Lien was filed against my property. I paid him at the end of the job. It is not that I am very angry but I am mildly angry. I got a couple of reasons from him. I called him immediately and he got it paid that day. He said that he had a lady that came in once a month and paid all the bills but she had missed mine. However, she had missed it for almost three months. The job was finished on the 12th of May and that was when I paid him for the final bill. The Mechanic's Lien was filed in August. He also said that the supply company was trying to reach him but he had changed his cellphone number and so, they were not able to reach him. They did not do their due deligency because he had an office number that they could have left a message on or they could have sent him another bill to get his attention because they had sent me a notice on the Mechanic’s Lien on the 19th of May 2011. So, I called the supplier and told him that I had paid the bill. He said that it was a standard procedure and that they had 30 days to pay the bill. I told them to let me know which they never did. The supplier did not try to reach me and did not do their due deligence in getting hold of Chico Roofing Company. They messed up royally. I reached him and he paid it that day. I also got in touch with the supplier and they were going to stop the recording as they had already sent it to the county recorders office. They left a phone message to say that they were not able to stop it. They have sent me a relief. My concern is whether this would affect mine and my brother's credit rating as we are the residents with both our names on it. I still have to check on it. If it does, then it is going to do some financial damage to both of us. I am not happy as it means that whoever files the Mechanic's Lien on you can file a foreclosure on your property for the lack of payment. I am not sure if this is also reported to the credit agency which I have to check. Chico Roofing Company also damaged my satellite dish while ripping off the roof when I had told them that I had already contacted dish and they were coming out the next day to remove the dish from the roof so that they could rip everything off. Evidentally, the worker that was up there cleaning was very close to the edge of the roofing and there was a metal flashing on the edge. He was pulling and jerking. He ripped and knocked it over. I did not know about that but the person from dish let me know the next day when he went to remove it. I knew that night when I was not getting the reception and I thought that they had bumped it. I never heard from him if it was damaged. They also damaged some siding and I had warned them that the siding could not be replaced as they don’t make it anymore. It was a smooth siding. Their price was the highest. They were very good in terms of their punctuality and responsiveness when they came out to do the work. They worked hard and kept at it until the job was finished. We had some unexpected rain in the early May and they were able to fix the roof. They were very professional. It was terror and so, I would not recommend them.

The whole process was a really good experience. The neighbors are happy and so are we.

I thought they had a fair and honest bid. We didn't accept the bid, but he seemed like a very nice man and I would have no problem recommending them. He was very professional, prompt and gave a very detailed bid so I knew exactly what I was getting.

I asked for a bid on two (2) small jobs. It took three (3) telephone messages to get a call back. When Bill Crane (owner) did call he was VERY professional asked great questions. He did not come out on the agreed date to take measurements, nor did he call. The following business day I discovered him on the roof taking measurements! During our conversation he was, again, very professional and well-informed. When I did not receive the bid, I called again. When he returned my call he indicated that he had misplaced the measurements and had to come re-measure everything. I did, then, get the bid in a very timely manner. I checked his references, which were glowing. He seemed to be very experienced and well informed on roofing, and these were two very small jobs, however I did not like having to chase him to get the bidding process done. His bid was the lowest, but we went with a different roofing company due to the above.

It rained the 1st scheduled day of work to take off the roof...therefore, they started the next day. They put down tarps over garden areas and walkways to keep area clean. They picked up all tarps and fall out before leaving each night. They brought in trucks to haul away old roofing direct from roof to truck, no piles of anything left on the ground. The roof was difficult to remove due to the material, CAL Shake which crumbled (cement composite) while removing it. The process took much longer than expected. The company worked on Saturday to make up for the rained out day and the extra time needed for the old roofing removal. We had to leave town and when we returned, not only had they caught up, but also the gutter company had installed the gutters but also the roofers had installed the new insulation. They also had solar fans available. They were honest about what should and should not be done and showed us areas of concern and fixed them as we saw fit. This was not an easy job as our roof was a custom roof in 1965 with many peaks and valleys which are not standard in the market. We were asked for a deposit of $1000.00 up front and informed as to when the next amount would be due and all terms were clearly addressed on the contract. Bill is a very professional businessman and explains everything before and after the job as well as during the job. He also works with the roofing team. His brother Jim is another roofing professional and leader of the installation team. We actually missed having them around after the job was done. We recommend them very highly.
