The Gatekeeper

They did not fix the problem. They had to be called multiple times and each time they charged me service call and something different. Last time was back in nov. of 2015 when they told me i needed to change out a sprocket. I was taking the CA BAR so I told the owner I would contact him after Feb. Last week I called him to have the sprocket put on and the tech said that would not solve the problem. He was not proposing another different solution and charging me again. As I write this my gate is still not working, paid them for multiple attempts of fixing my gate without a solution.

It went well. The gate is working again.

Ordered on AL special. Didn't hear from they for several days and was about t complain when I got a call. Scheduled it. Took a day off work to be here for it. They called me well after they were supposed to be here saying they had to cancel due to staff being tied up for the day. I wasn't happy, but since I had some other work scheduled for a week later with another vendor I figured I'd let them move my appointment to ten days later. The woman on the phone actually at first tried to tell me no, that the date wouldn't work. I gently reminded her that they can flaked, not me. She made it work. She was polite, but still... In the end, glad I waited for them. The service tech was great. Called ahead to warn me. Arrived on time. Super friendly. Very efficient.. He was very creative and offered to try the easy trick to fix the bent gate, and then if it didn't work he would have to charge extra, so I said go for it. Here's the real secret, there really isn't much to maintain in a maintenance package. Greasing the chain, and the few things you probably already do yourself. But, I had a bent gate that needed fixing, and just assumed once he was there he could diagnose it and then charge me. Turns out what the maintenance package is is really a one hour service call. I wish they would market it as that. He was able to do everything. And he was great about explaining it all to me so I could understand and get all my maint questions answered (ie: take care of it myself). I'll definitely call them and request him if I need service. Honest, friendly, skilled, he's the reason to use them. But if you buy online, pick up the phone vs waiting for them to check their email.

The tech, John, is very willing to talk to you about how the equipment works. You can learn a lot about your system if you spend time with him. He diagnosed the gate problem as needing replacement of the batteries (which I didn't even know it had), demonstrating the dip in voltage when we tried to actuate the gate. He explained the electrical design of the gate and how what we were seeing was an indication of an intermittent failure that would eventually fail all the time, and how I could wait to fix it if I wanted to. I also watched him do the preventative maintenance on the gate which he explained in detail. It was $99 for the service call using an Angie's' List deal ($10 or $20 off, I forget the normal price). You can find other businesses that provide the service for less based on what I saw on Angie's, but you might not get as good of service... It was an additional $49 per battery plus tax, which a search on Amazon tells me is a decent deal, but I didn't have to pay shipping, so that makes it a good deal to me. I would recommend GDI again--ask for your tech to be John!

The service technician Darren arrived within the appointment time. Access what was going on with the door and explained things as he checked and found my eye sensor was out and replaced them. He also serviced the door and advised me of what I sound be doing to service my door. I was completely satisfied with the technician and the service.

Quality and thoroughness of installation was superb. Our installer (Paul) spray painted all hardware and was very meticulous to ensure the motor did not detract from the beautiful new gate we had. He suggested moving it higher than it had been previously for both aesthetics and to prolong the life of the arm. The gate is semi-private but you cannot even see the arm unless you look closely ... Gatekeeper also worked directly with our fencing vendor (Vinyl Concepts, also A+ in my review) to ensure all specs were met and everything was ready to go on day of install. I took pictures to showcase the quality of work, but unfortunately AL no longer has upload capability, sorry.

I love the new gate. The person who came out for the estimate- John I think - was great. He asked me so many questions to customize it - which way should it open, where should the door knob, what kind of lock, 2 doors or 1 door, the height, the color, the materials...etc. He really knew his stuff and brought up things I wouldn't have thought about. The gate is perfect for our needs and looks great. The only reason I have to give them a B because we had 1 problem. I was not home when the gate was originally installed. When I came home i saw a huge dent in it! I don't know how it happened but I reported it right away. I was disappointed because my contact there - Randy - while responsive it was not apologetic about it. They came out to fix it - I was at work - and while much better it was not perfect. When i called he said that he saw a picture and that it looked "pretty good." I said I'm not paying for pretty good - I want it perfect. So I had to wait another week and they came back with a new one - I was home this time to make sure - and it's perfect. I would use them again overall. Also their price was so much more reasonable than 2 other estimates I got and the end product is great.

It went really well and took the time to explain everything to me. I was extremely happy with his work and the rate he gave me. I would recommend this company to everyone.

I am very happy with the work they did for me. They were on time and did a great job. I haven't had this kind of luck with other companies I have used for this work in the past.

Called the Gatekeeper, Came out same day, Garage door spring had broken, he replaced and serviced the door

They had to replace a fuse as it had stopped working. The job took less than an hour and there was just one technician. I would definitely use them again in the future.

The gate weighs about 4,000 lbs. The spars that hold the wheels had rusted through. He was very personable and knew what he was doing. He's been out before and we have never used anyone else.

They were really nice and everything was done well. They did a great job. It took about a week for them to finish the job. They had to tear everything out, pour new concrete, wait for it to harden, and then re-install the gate and wires. It was perfect from beginning to end.

Called them and got an immediate quote of $110 per hour just to come out and look at my gate, which I find very expensive... without asking any information re: the problem. I didn't use because I'm not a fan of potentially open-ended bills. I called another place and received a $65.00 quote to come out and check things out. I would suggest this place adopt a similar quote policy.

They arrived on time, were very professional, but i thought a bit pricey. However,I did not have time to do comparison shopping.

John came to give an estimate and he couldn't have been nicer!! Very knowledgeable and got the proposal the next day. Still getting other proposals so not sure yet who I am going to proceed with but they also did honor the Angies discount so thank you Angies list!

Our gate was stopping shy of opening and closing properly and had finally stopped opening altogether when we called The Gatekeeper. Their technician did a thorough check of all components, which took quite some time. He was very meticulous, and by the time he left, the gate was operating again. The next morning, however, the gate was back to its intermittent operation. We called The Gatekeeper and the technician came back out and replaced the battery of the unit. We have had no problems since. We were very impressed with this technician and his knowledge and the time he took. Highly recommend.

They are very easy to work with and the installers who come out are very professional and accomodating. Sometimes it was a bit hard to reach the right person about scheduling but that is my only complaint; and a minor one at that.

Peggy, who was the scheduler was helpful. She was very accommodating as to time and date. Repairmen showed up on time and completed work satisfactorily. Minor secondary adjustment made at no additional charge. Would definitely use them again.

John crawled under the house and replaced the gate motor batteries. He also recoded a new gate opener for me and cleaned and tweaked our gate system. Everything was perfect except for the next day our hot water heater wasn't working and neither was our stove. I had to get another vendor out to check things out and after a long evaluation we learned that the emergency gas shut off valve had been hit (this happened to be right next to the gate motor). Whether it was by accident or on purpose, I'm a little annoyed I had to spend more money on something residual from the services of the Gatekeeper. All in all, I was very pleased with John's service and would absolutely call on this vendor again.

The scope of work was clearly explained and John from the Gatekeeper executed the game plan perfectly. I believe the price was extremely fair and the entire system is working fine ......

Paul from Gatekeeper came out and explained to me in detail why the gate does not close and fixed the gate. Paul is very knowledgeable and he was able to fix other people's problem.

When I first called, they said they could come out the next day, but when I described the problem, Peggy said she knew how difficult that was and she moved us into the schedule for that day. Within 2 hours (the promised time frame), the technician called and showed up. He tested the remotes (working) then opened the mechanism and checked the belt, which needed to be replaced. In addition, he cleaned debris out of the workings and oiled the chain. He was professional, personable, and very knowledgeable about the system.

The process was very smooth and all the technicians who worked on the project were very competent.

It turned out great. I definitely recommend them. They are very responsive. They get there as soon as they can. They are very clear about what they are going to do and how it will be done. They know how to fix it. They are very knowledgeable and friendly.
