My husband and I were pleased with the entire process. FYI, my hubby is very meticulous, but Dwayne and anyone else we worked with held our hands all the way. Dwayne was the only salesperson among the four companies we consulted that pointed out that Los Angeles requires permits to replace windows. After verifying that with the city, we chose to get the permit, which Dwayne pulled for us at no charge. Of course, we had to pay the city permit fee (around $190.00). He also clearly explained what we had to do to pass inspection, and what conditions had to be met to get the DWP rebate for energy efficiency. This involved argon gas in between the glass panes to reduce heat transfer. I verified these numbers with the city. I also liked that he did not bad-mouth any other companies, which other salesmen tended to do. When the day arrived, the crew of 4 guys showed up bright and early and went right to work. Working in pairs, they took out one window and then put in the new one right away. When all of the windows were in, they then went back and did all of the finish work. They did everything. Some other companies' bids left me with the job of touch-up painting, especially the new molding around the new slider. They cleaned the windows, and recommended a type of window cleaner that works well. Upon arrival, they discovered that one of the windows on the truck was not at all the right size, but they were back within a week to bring the correct one. We also had an issue with a window air conditioner in our home office. You have to be very careful with these windows, because if the vinyl is damaged in any way, the warranty is void. Their installers worked to take out the A/C and then put it back in a way that did not compromise the warranty. In the end, there was a small difference in understanding a price, but Progressive negotiated that in our favor. I will also say that they were good about getting the necessary paperwork to us, needed to claim the DWP rebate. I have read all of the reviews for this company, and I can only say that we were very pleased.
Description of Work: I have a small house built in the early 1950s. I replaced 14 windows and one sliding door, a 1 day job. Progressive was the 4th estimate I got. They were also the farthest from my house. I found Dwayne to be a very helpful person, and straight-forward in his presentation. First, he came to my house, and we subsequently visited the showroom, which had a very useful display of everything they offered. They sell several different brands, which is useful, because it is then one-stop-shopping. We ultimately chose Anlin Windows.

Dwayne, their salesperson, came out and was very professional, easy to work with and on time. After measuring I was given a bound booklet and contract with details of who to call to schedule. They were very organized. Insulated the crawl space under the house with r-19 between the floor joists. The house is about 1200 sq. ft. and it took about 4 hrs and from what I can see the guys did a good job. I haven't crawled under but have been able to see a little from the access and it looks good. The cost was very good at $810 since it would cost me close to that to buy the insulation and have it delivered here and then I'd have to do it myself. Insulated the walls from drilling into the exterior stucco and blowing in the insulation. Patched the holes, did a fairly good job with major clean up but could have done better with the finer dust. Seemed like a good group of guys that installed and professional as well. Had two other quotes but this was more than half of one quote and the other quote was a rip-off price.

Thank you, Mr. Angie's List Member, for your heartwarming words! Here at Progressive we also appreciate the professionalism of Dwayne, and, as you noted, our installers. If insulation isn't installed right, it doesn't perform right - in fact, poorly installed insulation doesn't work at all! You'll be able to see the final results on your energy bill. Our team works really hard to earn the approval of great customers like you. We take to heart your words of advice on getting rid of the finer dust, and also appreciate your good pricing information putting Progressive as good value for the money spent. Thank you from the Progressive Team.

I had plans to paint the outside of my house and thought it would be a good idea to get new windows installed prior to painting. I obtained several quotes from other companies -- all of whom agreed that putting windows in before painting was the correct sequence; I then called Progressive Windows and spoke with Dwayne Dalichau. Dwayne arrived promptly, took measurements and spent plenty of time talking with me about options. What I appreciate most about Dwayne (among many things, to include his patience, responsiveness and resourcefulness) was that he was the only one to point out that it would acutally be better to paint first, then put windows in and have painters return to do a little touch up around the outside frame so they wouldn't have to worry about getting paint on brand new windows. This made perfect sense to me and the painting company was happy to reduce their price by $500 as this now made their job easier. I was somewhat apprehensive about how disruptive the noise and mess would be during this project, but I was pleasantly surprised. Joe and his assistant did a wonderful job, cleaned up afterwards -- including washing the windows, which were left spotless -- and spent time showing me how my new windows functioned. In addition to appreciating sparkling clean windows at end of day, I also choose Progressive because they finished the inside frames with painted trim -- so there was nothing I needed to do except enjoy my beautiful new windows. I choose well with Progressive and highly recommend contacting Dwayne to get the process started on your home. You'll be glad you did!

Thank you for your good report on Progressive and our representative, Dwayne. We are obviously very pleased with your recognition of Dwayne, who is an excellent resource for evaluating a window home improvement project (as well as air-seal and insulation needs), and who is patient to work through to the best solution. At Progressive it is our goal to take the "high road" in recommending products and solutions for your home. Dwayne is a good example of a Progressive representative who knows the product and creatively works with the specifics of the individual's home to achieve Energy Efficiency!

Very disappointing. They seemed so professional on the phone and in person. We spent about 45 minutes going over wooden windows that need replacing in our Bungalow. The guy said we would get us an estimate in a day or two. We never heard back with an estimate. Two follow up calls later, and Progressive has not returned our calls. Seems kind of unfair to waste our time this way, now we are back to square one getting another estimate, which stalls our renovations. I'm really surprised at this, considering all of their excellent reviews. They must be either really busy, or just no longer on the ball.

I found Progressive on Angie's List and looked at their website. I filled out the website form to schedule an estimate. After one week, I never received a reply, so I called them instead. Someone took down my information and said an estimator would call me back. I never got a return call and this has been about a month now. I give up on them. If this is what their service is like when they are trying to gain clients, I hate to see what they are like after a contract is signed.

The same two men who did the measuring also did the job. They were here early, worked with a will and were very careful about the house and furnishings. I could understand them perfectly - (I am a self-confessed gringa and don't have a lot of Spanish) - and they had a great work ethic , always a help. They put up with my questions and hanging around with good humor and were finished with the installation by early afternoon - not an easy job, since a 30-year-old house is never level or plumb. They cleaned up well when they were finished, and the windows have made a big difference in the house temperature and outside noise level. Good job all around!
Description of Work: In June of 08 I got estimates for 5 windows, 3 of them on the second story. Dwayne was my contact and was down-to-earth and helpful - we talked insulation as well, but held off on that project. Project was finished on schedule in August. I wanted a local company.

They are amazing! The sales guy was professional, knew his stuff, and did no high pressure sales. The installation went without a hitch. The guys were very professional, clean, protected everything, and didnt mind that we had our two young boys trying to "help". They worked fast, and I had to place lunch in their hands just to get them to take a break. The windows look amazing, and we are definitely going to be the envy of the neighborhood!

I emailed the company after finding them on Angies list. I did not get a reply, so over a week after I emailed them I called. They said they received the email but just overlooked it. I told him exactly what I was looking for (replacement of all windows with wood windows and installation) as I did in the email. He said someone would call me that day to setup an appointment for measuring for the estimate. I did not receive a call, and sent them an email the next morning. He emailed back that someone would definitely call the next day. I did get a call, from a guy that didn't have any idea what I was looking for. He couldn't schedule an estimate for 2 weeks, I explained to him that I worked during the day and couldn't be home, he said "Yeah, we all work". I emailed them explaining I couldn't wait another 2 weeks just for an estimate, since it had already been almost 2 weeks since my initial email inquiry. They called back the next day and said they would find someone, a guy called me that day and scheduled an appointment for Saturday evening. Saturday morning he called me and asked a few questions that made me uncomfortable, Do you have a husband?, is someone else making the decision?, will I be meeting with just you? Being a single woman in LA, I find these questions inappropriate and I'm offended by them. He stated the appointment would take about 2 hours. I was thinking of cancelling the appointment because I was uncomfortable with his questioning, but didn't. He came over, came into my house (I left my front door open, so I could make a getaway if needed..kinda joking about that, but kinda serious) I have had 3 estimates and he is the only one that measured from the inside of the house. He stayed 15 minutes and asked what type of windows I was interested in, I told him wood (4th time I've told this company I was interested in wood windows) He said he wasn't prepared, didn't have any books/brochures with him. He said he would contact me and have an estimate the following Saturday and he left. I have not heard from him or the company since. I am very disappointed in this company

My name is Steve Anderson, president and owner of Progressive Insulation & Windows. The Angie's List member sent us a copy of this message and I personally spoke with her for quite a while before it was actually posted on Angie's List. After personally investigating this situation, our team members at Progressive did drop the ball with the member. Although the details varied somewhat and perception played a part in it, our team did do a poor job of communicating her needs to each other. It's absolutely no excuse but, we were going through some personnel changes at the time which aggravated the situation at each step along the way in our system. I've been in business for 30 years and unfortunately, once in a great while, we get a customer who we just can't seem to do anything right for during the initial sales process. Reviewing our other reports, we're very effective at satisfying customers once we've completed our work. I left my personal cell phone number with the member should she like me to handle her job personally since she had not found a window company to go with as of yet. I am certain that if given that opportunity, she would also be a very satisfied customer of Progressive's at the end of the day. Unfortunately, we blew the opportunity before we had a chance to perform and I personally apologized to her for that. Respectfully, Steve Anderson, President (818) 428-6288 Direct Line

From the estimate to the installer and every communication with the office. This company is the most customer oriented establishment I have ever worked with. The windows that we purchase are excellent. All contacts with progressive were professional and on time. Very good workers, very professional. The sales guy was on time and professional, going through the pros and cons of various products and not a whiff of pressure or desperation. Probably a wise sales tactic as I took the bait and hired the company to replace a couple of old wooden windows in our bedrooms with new vinyl windows. I was even more impressed with their install guys. They were on-time, professional, took half the expected installation time, and were friendly and cordial. They pointed out the features of the windows, asked a few confirmation questions, and cleaned up after themselves. Good company.

I was reassured from the start when they told us before they provided the estimate that they would insist on permitting the job (we permit everything, which has turned off a lot of other contractors since Burbank is a strict area.) Our salesman was incredibly knowledgeable about windows and doors and put as at ease. We had done most of the windows in our house in Anlin windows from American Vision windows about two years ago, and wanted to make sure the last few windows we did would match our existing. Progressive was the only other highly regarded window contractor we could find with Anlin, and sure enough they were able to match our existing windows with no problem. After we got the estimate they were a little unresponsive to move forward, but after a few phone calls that got cleared up and we moved ahead with measurements. The install crew was on time, courteous, and cleaned up well...they also did a really nice job installing the windows and door.

The salesman was professional, the installation crew was both thorough and efficient. The back office was a bit slow in getting me the LADWP rebate information, but after prodding by the salesman it did arrive. All went as promised: the materials arrived at Progressive's place of business in good time, the installation was scheduled for a time of my choosing, the installation crew arrived promptly and were completely finished as planned. The windows themselves really do cut down on heat gain and loss and really are quiet. The brick moulding on the exterior makes this particular product look like it belongs, rather than the "you have vinyl windows" look. The interior wood mouldings also lend a custom instead of factory look. Initially, I had Progressive and another well known company that advertises heavily bid the identical job. (I.e. I had them both bid Anlin windows and sliding doors, as they both carry and install that product.) Progressive was about 8% higher. But as I told the salesmen from both, while it was a competition, the competition was not solely on price. Progressive wasn't willing to deal with my exterior rolling shutters (which needed to be removed) on the grounds that their staff wasn't sufficiently familiar with it to guaranty they could do it right; the other outfit, for a price, was willing to handle it, yet I'm sure their crews know no more than Progressive's. Progressive uses a nice custom built wood moulding inside, instead of the usual vinyl tape, and thoroughly insulated between the old and new frames. We chose Amerimax rather than Anlin because that produce seemed to me to be even better made, and it had the availability of the extra cost "brick" moulding. All in all, we are well pleased.
Description of Work: We had all of the windows and sliding doors replaced, putting in Amerimax replacement windows and sliding doors (rather than the "nail in" stuff that requires stucco repair) with the relatively fancy "brick" moulding.

Overall it was good. They only problem was that the original design choice that I had in mind for the windows was not what I ended up getting. Although I cannot blame them for the overall choice since I never actually saw an EXACT sample of what I ordered (which was incredibly stupid of me); I can blame them when what arrived did not meet my expectations having described very clearly what I wanted. I wanted an interior look that required no molding, just a clean edge for my drywall to either butt-up against or to bull nose around next to. The initial problem was that because there was no interior molding built into the window then the interior had a strip of wood that is stapled into the window to hold the window structure together. Again, my fault as well but it almost was a disaster if it were not for my brother's amazing plastering skills. The door was good and there installation of the windows and insulation was fast and professional. Overall considering how fast the installations were, I cannot help but feel it was over priced. I also allowed myself to be talked into some choices that were not what I should have, but I guess that is not there fault entirely. Also, although they are always available by phone almost 24/7 there were some weeks that it was really hard to get a hold of my sales rep.

THE CUSTOMER HAS BEEN VERY OBJECTIVE IN EVALUATING BOTH THE WORK OF PROGRESSIVE AND THEIR OWN EXPECTATIONS NOT MET. PROGRESSIVE APPRECIATES A FAIR VIEW AND SEEKS TO RECIPROCATE. IT IS OUR GOAL TO HAVE SATISFIED CUSTOMERS. MOST OF THE TIME WE CAREFULLY LISTEN TO THE NEEDS OF THE CUSTOMER AND ACCURATELY ANTICIPATE EXACTLY THE SOLUTION NEEDED. THIS TIME WE MISSED SOME ELEMENTS. PROGRESSIVE SEEKS TO RESPECT THE CUSTOMER, NEVER HARD-SELLING OR PRESSURING INTO AN UNWANTED DECISION. PROGRESSIVE IS VERY SENSITIVE REGARDING THE MATTER OF PUSHING THE CUSTOMER TO BUY WHAT THEY DO NOT WANT OR DO NOT NEED. PROGRESSIVE SEES THIS AS DISHONEST AND OUR SALES TEAM IS 100% COMPLIANT IN SEEKING TO FULLY UNDERSTAND THE CUSTOMER’S WISHES. WE APOLOGIZE FOR THIS UNFORTUNATE EXPERIENCE IN WHICH THE CUSTOMER’S EXPECTATIONS WERE NOT ONLY DIFFERENT, BUT WHERE SOME REGRETS EXISTED AS WELL. Two men showed up promptly on the morning of the job and started prepping the room with drop cloths. They estimated it would take about 6 hours to complete. They worked efficiently and removed the old windows and replaced with the new windows within the quoted time period. One of the installers even talked to my alarm system company to find out where to drill so the existing wires would be accessible for easier hook-up. The old windows and debris were hauled away and my house and property was left as clean as when they arrived. I would recommend to anyone considering using this company that they first visit the Progressive showroom. The staff are very helpful and informative and will present different options that you may not have considered.
Description of Work: Replaced 2 bedroom windows with a custom window and a sliding French Rail patio door. The new windows are both dual pane vinyl.
