Progressive Insulation & Windows was founded in Chatsworth in 1978 and has grown into one of Southern California's leading replacement window and insulation companies. We stand above many of our competitors because of our commitment to provide excellence in the installation of our products. Though we now have more than 70 trained installers and sales reps, we still do business in the same customer-centered tradition that propelled us to success in our early days. We are still a family-owned and operated business that truly cares about the customer experience before, during, and after installation of any of our products.
My advise when shopping for windows ... Most windows are created pretty equal so long as you stick with their higher end models. Sales people will push the products that produce the best margins for them in that particular month, so don't be fooled by bell and whistles and stick with essentials. There is enough competition in that business these days for most mainstream manufacturers to be up to par in terms of their product quality. Don't get fooled by flea circus acts like "FIRE RATED", "DOUBLE HINGED", "DOUBLE LOCK", CERTIFIED FACTORY TECHNICIAN INSTALLERS", etc. You're buying windows, not an army tank ... in case of fire, they will break and melt, and in case of thieves, they'll get in if they know what they're doing, regardless. And when it comes to warranty, most I researched are offered by the manufacturer, not the people selling it to you. So, no matter what story they tell you about the owner of their company or how service oriented they are, chances are you won't see them again. That's my opinion.
Description of Work: They seem to be pretty in line with most windows companies in terms of products offered, although I did not hire them. The main reason was the price. They offer similar manufacturers as most other companies that I researched. Based purely on my job, they weren't just more expensive, they were grossly overpriced (over 30% higher). I got bids for the same amount of windows from 4 companies, with same specifications in terms of low e and Argon gas, etc. that were my requirements. They were hands down the most expensive bid that came in. In fact 2 of the 4 were bids for the same manufacturer "Anlin", which as far as I know only offers 1 type of product. But for their other manufacturer submitted they were the highest as well. I can only guess that their profit margin is set higher than the other 3 companies. Assuming manufacturers sell their product for about the same price to their distributors. Having said that, it does not make them a bad company. They are entitled to sell their products and services for whatever the deem appropriate. Also the sales guy seemed pretty nice and hardworking. My advise when shopping for windows ... Most windows are created pretty equal so long as you stick with their higher end models. Progressive was one of four companies from whom I solicited an estimate. They were among the highest bidders, but their estimate was also the most comprehensive; it included pulling permit (replacing more than 2 or 3 windows is considered a remodel, and requires filing for a building permit), all of the installation costs, and the inspector's fee. While other local companies used Milgard windows, Pregressive uses Amerimax. We selected them in part because Amerimax makes double-hung windows to replace some unusual ones we had in the den. Milgard could make windows of that size and shape, but they would have been picture (that is, non-opening) windows, while we wanted the option of opening them for ventilation. Also, Progreessive had done some insulation work for us previously, and we were impressed with their craftsmanship and service. Everything went smoothly from the beginning. Dwayne, our sales associate, was punctual, comprehensive and responsive when he came to give the estimate. He clearly explained all the costs involved. He met us at the showroom on a weekend so we could compare the various windows we were considering purchasing. He communicated clearly and promptly with me on email. Once the job was scheduled, the workers showed up on time. They were professional and courteous, and worked steadily to get the job done. They helped move heavy furniture, took down window coverings and covered everything in plastic to protect it; at the end of the day (the job took 3 days to complete), they removed all the plastic and cleaned up thoroughly. In fact, at the end of the job they left the garage and patio cleaner than they had found them! They were considerate of my property and even took pains not to freak out the cat (who was horrified by the whole process and hid under the bed). When the work was completed, the crew boss went over every window and door with me, demonstrating how to operate them and making sure it was properly installed. What really impressed me, besides the courtesy and professionalism of the workers, was their level of craftsmanship. They finished the inside of the window frames with great attention to detail, filling all the nail holes and painting. The door installations were similarly done with care and pride. We are delighted with the work and service overall. Best of all, they offer a lifetime guarantee on both the windows and workmanship; if anything ever goes wrong, we can call them and they will come out and fix it at no charge to us.
Description of Work: Progressive replaced 12 windows and 2 doors in our 1950s house with Amerimax vinyl windows and fiberglass doors. Two of the windows had to be custom-made to fit unusually-shaped openings. They raised the opening of the garage door and constructed a new threshold to keep water from flowing in. They also re-framed the kitchen door and replaced a screen door.

We are very grateful for your kind words, reflecting on Progressive’s pursuit of excellence in every department. When Dwayne Dalichau, the sales representative on the job, was congratulated on a job well done, he immediately recognized the professionalism of the workers and the special effort of Mike Oscal in making sure that all elements of the job were properly scheduled to meet the customer’s needs. It was truly a team effort. When Angie’s List says, “Good job, Progressive!” we are sure to “high five” all of our team members as we continue toward our pursuit of excellence. Thank you, Angie’s List Customers!

Salesman, Steve Arellano, was great. Installation guys were great. The guy in the office who helped when I signed the contract was somewhat unprofessional. You could tell he didn't like my salesman and badmouthed him in a way I'm sure he thought was subtle. I thought if he had a problem with the salesman he shouldn't let a customer know. But other than that, the overall experience was very good.

I could not be more pleased with the job Progressive did and my experience with them. The salesperson, Chuck Suarez, was very informative and even explained ways that I could save money and avoid unnecessary work. The other 2 companies that I got bids from showed me samples of the windows they wanted me to buy from the trunks of their cars. Chuck gave me a detailed bid (something I had to ask one of the other bidders for) but had me come out to the Progressive showroom to see what the products looked like before I made a decision. I was able to see what the various products would look like installed and was better able to make an informed decision. The windows came within the time estimate and were installed over two days. The installers were a pleasure to deal with, did a professional job and cleaned up well. The windows look and work great. I have definatley noticed a difference in the temperature of the house and the air conditioning runs much less.

We were looking to add insulation to our attic to increase the energy efficiency of our house. Progressive was one of several companies I contacted for an estimate. They responded quickly, setting up an appointment to give an estimate within a week of my call. Of the three companies I contacted, they provided the most complete information on the different types of insulation available, their cost and benefits. We decided to install both barrier foil and fiberglass. The job was originally supposed to take two days, but the workers were able to complete it in a single day, saving me time as well. Within a day, we could feel the difference; our air conditioner has had to work much less than it did before we installed insulation. We hope to save on heating costs this winter as well.

Thank you for your business and kind words. You made a great choice to go with the radiant barrier foil insulation along with the fiberglass at the ceiling. The entire valley gets hot but, for some reason, it gets especially hot in Woodland Hills. Your home’s attic area can get up to 150 – 160 degrees in the summer time. When that happens, the performance of your ceiling insulation is greatly impacted. It can be decreased by as much as 50% when you need it the most. The radiant barrier foil installed at the roof keeps that from happening. So, great job doing your research and be sure to tell your family and friends what you’ve learned about “advanced insulation systems” to make your home CoolerWarmerBetter.com Gratefully yours, Steve Anderson President Progressive Insulation & Windows (818) 428-6288 Office (818) 534-5135 Direct Fax

Description of Work: They performed an energy efficiency audit on the home and proceeded to put in new insulation in the attic and crawl space in the house. They did a test where they put a fan in the door which measures how drafty the house is. they went around and plugged up the wholes that causes the drafts. They also went around with an infrared camera to detect where more insulation would be needed.

The salesman came to my house, took measurements, showed me some samples, and followed up with an email a week later. I was interested in doing the work, but he never followed up, and I called several times to try to get another sales/contact person to continue to work with, but I kept being redirected to the same guy, who still didn't respond to any of my phone calls/ emails. A month later, he finally managed to send me an email, asking me if I was still interested, but at that point, I really didn't want to do any business with them. Overall, the company had horrible internal communication and bad customer follow through.

My name is Steve Anderson, President of Progressive Insulation & Windows. I can be reached at 818-428-6288 (direct), 818-518-6659 (cell), or steveanderson@progressiveiw.com. I discussed this matter with our dissatisfied prospect. In spite of receiving great recommendations from others, he was disappointed that our sales rep did not follow-up after presenting him with a proposal for replacement windows. Our sales rep, George, also never followed-up with an estimate to insulate his home. Even though some clients appreciate our low pressure sales practices, because of our lack of sales follow-up this potential customer spent his money on a new roof and Progressive missed a sales opportunity and angered a good prospect. Fortunately, he has not had any of the insulation or replacement window work done so, I provided him with my personal contact information (as noted above) and asked him to call me personally when he is ready to do energy efficient home improvements to his home. Respectfully, Steve Anderson, President

Progressive Insulation came out and gave me an rundown of doors and the types of doors that would work for me and my house's situation. The salesman measured the door. I picked out the type of door and lock that I wanted and was quoted a price. After acceptance, an installer came out and remeasure the door jamb. After ordering the door, the installers came out and spent about 7 hours removing the old door and installing the new door. Thank goodness I did not try to take on this task myself because it turned out the the new door, in order to fit perfectly, had to be set in a way that was way above my knowledge of door installation. The installers took the time to make sure that the door sat level and plumb in the existing opening. The new door closes properly now, unlike the old door. The installers also finished the job in a very professional manner, cleaned up after themselves. I got a call from the installers about a week later to make sure that everything was working well with me door.

This was a great experience from start to finish. I called to request an in-home consultation and their sales rep Bob P came out within a couple of days. He was very knowledgeable and friendly. He walked me through the different options and brands. A couple of days later my boyfriend and I went to the showroom to meet w/ Bob and go over the final details and sign the contract. They had a couple of techs come out to do a final measure and the windows came in about 3 weeks later. Ismael and his team were extremely professional when they did the install. They cleaned everything thoroughly when they were done. One of the pieces of glass came cracked and they ordered a replacement immediately. The windows look great and work beautifully!

From start to finish this has been done in a completely professional manner, very attentive to customer concerns. The installation and woodworking is excellent. When I raised concerns about the foundations under the sills after several new doors were installed, no questions were asked. They pulled the new doors out and made the sills right. They repaired an accidentally damaged marble outdoor table and came back to adjust the doors a month later when they were not closing correctly. The product and the service confirm that you get what you pay for. I had both lower and higher bids. This one worked out great.

Progressive is awesome! They were very professional from day 1. Everyone we dealt with was nice, courteous, and very knowledgeable. This is our first house and our first time dealing with window companies. We got quotes from numerous companies but were very impressed with how Progressive handled our project every step of the way. They were always on time, which is rare. Their attention to detail was also great. Come installation day, they exceeded all expectations. They originally thought it might take 2 days to install our 17 new windows. They got everything done in one day. They said that they would clean everything up and we wouldn't see a spec of dust when they were done. I thought for sure this was just an empty salesman's promise, but it was not. When they left, the only thing left behind were our beautiful new windows, there wasn't so much as a spec of sawdust anywhere. They took care of trim, molding.... what else can I say, they are great!

WOW. It's really nice to hear such kind words. In today's tough economy, some companies chose to cut corners in order to cut costs. Some companies begin to have morale problems amongst their employees. We have worked very hard at Progressive not to let that happen. We have worked harder and spent more time and money in training our team members than ever before so, when things do turn around, Progressive will be a step ahead of our competition. It is wonderful to see that Angie's List members take this time to share their good experiences with each other. We're not perfect but, we always try to "do the right thing" for each and every customer. All of us at Progressive greatly appreciate the our relationship with Angie's List and Angie's List members. I visited the showroom after reading positive reviews on Angie?s List. While I was there Bob Penzel walked me through the showroom displays, provided a detailed overview of the installation process and explained the differences between the various brands of windows. Instead of pushing one product he pointed out features unique to each brand of windows as well as the different price ranges. A few days later Bob provided an in-home estimate and pointed out that one of the windows would need to have tempered glass per the building code. Even though I got a lower quote from another company I chose to go with Progressive because the window on display in their showroom looked much nicer than what I saw in the other company's showroom. The same window in the Progressive showroom appeared to be higher quality because they used wood trim to cover the insulation around the window while the other company used a vinyl strip to cover the insulation. Before signing the contract I called Bob a few times with questions and he promptly returned my calls and answered my questions. All of the paperwork was completed during the weekend through email and on Monday I was contacted by Gabriel to schedule a time for my windows to be re-measured (standard practice) before the order was placed. After the order was placed I talked to Gabriel and scheduled the installation for a Saturday just three weeks later. He called again the day before the install to confirm and answer any questions. Each time I spoke to him was very professional and accommodating to my schedule. On installation day George, Hector and Martin arrived on time and immediately laid down tarps throughout my home to protect the floors. They worked very quickly, but still took time to answer questions and explain each step of the process. They finished everything sooner than I expected and my neighbor even commented on how fast the job was completed. Before leaving they handed me all the stickers required for the tax credit and showed me how to operate my new windows and sliding door. Everything went smoothly for the most part, however during the installation we realized that the window that was supposed to be tempered glass was ordered as regular glass. They confirmed that the window needed be tempered because it was next to stairs. They ordered tempered glass to remedy the situation and installed the window with regular glass in the mean time. When tempered glass was ready two weeks later, an installer named Roger came out and switched out the glass and it only took about an hour. Now everything is complete and I am very happy with the results.
Description of Work: They replaced 6 sliding windows, 1 picture window and 1 sliding door with Anlin windows qualifying for tax credit. During installation they removed my window treatments, removed existing windows, installed new windows, insulated around the windows, sealed around the windows, installed white wood trim around interior side of windows, applied touch-up paint to the wood trim, removed stickers from the windows, washed both sides of windows and put back my window treatments.

While I have not inspected the work personally and, as such, can't actually verify that it was completed as promised, I trust that it was. Progressive was professional and punctual throughout entire process. In fact, of the 5 or so companies that I called for a bid, Progressive was only one of two that promptly returned my call, and Progressive's bid was a full $2000 less than the other bid that I did get (which might have made me nervous had they not otherwise come recommended through Angie's list).

This was one of the most professional experiences I have had with a contractor. Everything they said they would do, they did. I contacted Dwayne (our salesman) about 18 months ago and received an estimate for 3 brands of windows that Progessive carries. We also visited the showroom to see the products and were assisted by a very knowledgeable salesperson (Dwayne could not be there that day). We were not able to go ahead with the project at that time, but I kept in touch with Dwayne periodically. He never pushed or tried to hard sell; he was totally professional and always available by phone or email to answer any questions. We decided to go ahead with the window installation in September and talked with Dwayne again and visited the showroom again. Dwayne came back out to the house to check the measurements and installation instructions (we had casements as well as single-hung windows installed). He then scheduled the final measurements to be done within the next week so that the windows could be ordered. We always knew exactly what was happening and why, and every single appointment by each employee was kept on time. This is really an exceptional group of people and an exception company! The windows were installed in one day (they added an extra installer so that we could have everything completed in one day), and the crew, Ismael, Jorge and Hector did a wonderful job. This company does not advertise--they get their business from referrals and I can't imagine a better company to recommend.

Absolutely great! Dwayne did the estimate and I appreciate 1) his down-to-earth, grounded approach (opposed to others estimators who spent more time only to 'sell' their materials and service), and 2) his helping me to understand and figure out whether I needed double hung on some windows, which ended up saving money since I went with single hung where I never have need to open/lower the upper half of the window. Had I gone with others, I would have ended up paying a significant amount more. After the decision to go with Progressive, the exact measurement pro came by in a couple days, the windows were ordered and in a few weeks they came in and did the job in under two days. No fuss, no muss. I was extremely pleased. Good attention to detail. The windows have settled in and a few don't slide with the same ease as when they were installed, but that's a very small picky point of insignificance. This is the best contractor experience I've had in 25 years.
