Progressive is a dream company to work with, starting with our salesman, Dwayne Dalichau. Dwayne first came to our house back in January 2010 and we discussed our goals and the various types of windows and various manufacturers that might meet our needs. Dwayne took the measurements and soon gave us a quote. We went back and forth with updated quotes as we tried to decide if we wanted grids on the windows or simply clear glass and did we want vinyl or fiberglass? Dwayne was very responsive to all our questions by providing answers and leaving it up to us to make the decision that worked for us - not once did we feel any pressure from Dwayne or Progressive to move forward. We were about ready to make a decision about two months later when we experienced a death in the family that required an extended trip out of town and we put our window project on hold. Fast forward to November 2011 and we asked Dwayne to come out again and update the quote. He returned a few days later with Ishmael to do a final measurement and we signed a contract. About four weeks later the window installation began with a crew of three men - crew supervisor Joe, along with crew members Pedro, Bruce and George. They came right on time and first walked through the entire house with us looking at each window to be replaced and discussing any pieces of furniture that needed to be moved. We had already moved the "smalls" out of the way so the process could go faster. The crew covered the floor and nearby furniture, bookcases, etc. with plastic before beginning work each day and removed it at the end of each day. They vacuumed any dust or debris that remained at the end of each day so we could have the use of the rooms in the evening. They were an amazing crew. Joe kept everything moving very efficiently and they all worked very well together. He would tell us each day which windows were being replaced and checked with us each day to find out if we had any questions or concerns. At the end of each day he would tell us what time they expected to arrive the following morning. We were really impressed with the professionalism of the work crew and the quality of the Marvin Infinity windows. The work is demanding - those windows are heavy and removing the old windows was a tough job. Also, Dwayne came by at least two times during the installation, which took four and half days in total, to see how things were going. The whole crew were easy to work with and we appreciate the care they took with our home. They moved furniture inside and pots and patio furniture outside as needed and put everything back where it belonged when they were finished. We are extremely pleased with the completed project. We now can open any window with complete ease, the house is definitely quieter and time will tell how our gas bill is affected. We also love the look of the windows!
Description of Work: Progressive replaced all of the windows in our 52-year old house with Marvin Infinity fiberglass windows. We had a combination of steel casement and wood casement windows, many of which were inoperable due to broken window cranks and paint build-up. We had three goals: (1) Reduce the noise level from passing cars (we live on a corner) and barking dogs; (2) make it easier to ventilate the house with windows that actually work!; and (3) reduce heat loss during the winter from poorly fitting windows.

Thank you for taking the time to give us such a wonderful review. The Infinity Window by Marvin you selected is a very fine product. The key to investing in a window like that or, any window for that matter, is the installation. Like attic and wall insulation, if windows are not installed properly they will not give you the performance you deserve. So, congratulations on making such a good investment and thank you for trusting Progressive and our team of professionals getting them delivered and installed properly. Best regards, Steve Anderson, president

Sales rep Dwayne Dalichau was informative and very low key, no pushiness whatsoever. He explained everything that would happen in detail on the project and everything he said proved to be accurate in all respects: the product, how much time between ordering and the date of install, the install, assistance with the city permit etc. The installers were professional, followed all the procedures that Dwayne had stated and everything was left clean and in order. Everyone I spoke to in the office was friendly, helpful and professional. I am very critical of the general state of retail customer service these days, but I do not have a single negative to say about this experience, it was flawless from beginning to end. Congrats to Progressive for being the rare company that does things the way they should be done!
Description of Work: Purchase/Replace 7 vinyl windows Approx. price breakdown: the windows were mostly 36" x 54" The basic average price per window was $470 We added grids on 6 windows for an additional $42 per window and 3 windows had sound deadening glass for an additional $81 each

WOW. Thank you very much for the glowing report and kind words. This is why we work so hard at doing a good job each and every day. We have a lot of employees and it takes real passion to build a culture that deserves this kind of review and recommendation. One of our slogans is, "Progressive, where good people do great things." We feel our customers deserve our best and it's nice to know we get it done most of the time. We're not perfect but, when we mess up, we fix it. Dwayne and all of our installers are a great reflection of our company. Low-key, no-pressure, help our customers make good choices and, do what we promise. If we do that, everything will fall into place. Thanks again! Steve Anderson, pres.

Progessive provided a timely estimate, a scheduled for the job, and completed the installation in 1 day. They removed the security bars, completely re-framed one window, and replaced the sill and inside molding on the other, so the woods would match. They also took care to match our current panelling as close as they could, and recommended staining techniques. Very professional, high quality work. A fine experience.

I apologize for not responding to these important reviews in a timelier manner lately. Progressive acquired a regional competitor recently and I have been working hard to merge the two organizations together. Thank you for your kind report. I am especially happy to hear that you were satisfied with our efforts related to resolving your existing conditions related to the molding and security bars. There was one mistake on how the windows were to open due to the salesman's instructions, but the guys who installed them did a terrific job. The problem was a mistake by the salesman, not the people who installed them. They salesman said they would deduct $50 to compensate if I wanted to live with the way the windows were installed, which I don't feel is adequate. I'm still deciding how to move forward with this. I would use them again, provided they resolve this incident sufficiently.

I previously hired Progressive to install new vinyl replacement windows in my own home and was so pleased with the quality of their products and services that I didn't even bother to call anyone else when needing 5 windows to be replaced in a newly acquired rental home. I simply picked up the phone and called Dwayne (818-581-8762), who came out to take initial measurements and provided a very fair quote for the job, after which the Anlin windows were ordered and Joe arrived several weeks later to install them. Between Dwayne and Joe, I knew I was in great hands and they could not have made this project any easier for me. If you are looking to replace windows, do yourself a favor and make sure to call Dwayne - you'll be glad you did !!

I haven't even used this company yet and I'm super impressed. I bought the energy efficiency package from Angie's The Big Deal. I told them that I owned a townhouse. They called me back and told me that I'd be wasting my money since a townhouse is not amenable to the changes I would need to make. They had even called Angie's list first to make sure that I would get my money back, which I did. They are super honest and friendly. Rare indeed in this world.

We began this process last June and called Progressive to get a quote. We spoke with Bob who was fantastic and came out the next day to provide us with a free estimate. Out of the 3 estimates we got, his was right in the middle and offered a rare lieftime guarantee of the windows AND labor/installation. We saved up our money and purchased the windows in December and had them installed. The installers were polite, quick and accurate with the installation and they completed the job in time for my daughter's nap (about 4 hours)! I was very impressed and so far haven't had any issues with the windows. We purchased the companies own brand of Amsco windows (vinyl) to replace our original wood windows. We were wary of doing this at first, thinking the vinyl would look "cheap." Quite honestly, I cannot tell a difference between the two in terms of looks. The new windows are much easier to operate and lock and the glass quality is far superior to our old windows. I highly recommend this company and when we are ready, we will be replacing the rest of our windows with Progressive.

I am sorry for the late response to your kind words. I think the key difference between Progressive and other window companies is that we use wood trim for our interior finish with mitered corners in lieu of the flat vinyl trim most companies use. It really finishes off the windows nicely. Thank you for your business and your kind words. Steve Anderson, pres.

Progressive sent a representative to the house to estimate the job. He looked in the attic, and around the outside of the house. He explained all the services Progressive offers to get the house sealed up, but he didn't hard sell any of them. The crew that did the installation was efficient and thorough. I was impressed that they did the job right, they spent 5 hours in all on our 1245 sq' house. They crawled around the perimeter of the very low attic space, placing insulation battons to make sure the vent holes didn't get covered up when the blown in insulation was installed. I had called other companies that offered to get the job done in an hour - not doing any work to keep the vents clear. I am pleased with the work. After the insulation went in we had a heat wave and the temperature inside the house only went up 3 degrees while the temp outside went up 30 degrees - without the AC turning on.

Response from Progressive Insulation & Windows
At first, I was a little surprised at all the B’s on this report but happy to see an overall A. I will try to call to see where we could have done better. I apologize for being a little behind in responding to these important reviews. We really appreciate our Angie’s List customers because, like this member, they are our most intelligent and prudent buyers. The key to getting the best results from any insulation investment is to ensure the insulation is “properly installed.” As the member explains, most insulation companies’ do not take the time and care necessary to install insulation properly. Many times, people will post satisfied reviews for insulation companies that “were in-and-out in 45 minutes or, in about an hour” on homes that are even larger than the member’s 1245’ home. I have been in the insulation business for almost 40 years and I can assure you, it is impossible to do a proper insulation job in an hour or less. But most people just don’t know what to ask when shopping for insulation so, they ask the obvious question; “How much do you charge for R30 insulation?” A legitimate insulation company shouldn’t answer that question until they have come out to your home and inspected it’s unique characteristics and conditions. Every home is different and every customer’s needs are different as well. So, thank you very much Member. Your understanding of and appreciation for what we do as professional insulators is OUR satisfaction in trying to do a good job each and every day. And when we do a good job, you enjoy the benefits of the insulation investment you’ve made with our company. The results you described above are extraordinary and can only be achieved by taking the time our crews obviously took on your job. Most people don’t realize that if an insulation crew misses or under-insulates just 3 – 4% of an attic, the performance of that insulation job is decreased by up to 50%. So, when you call an insulation company and they quote prices over the phone or want to send their truck out within a few days, my recommendation is to call the next company on your list. Thanks again Member for your comments and for your business. Best regards, Steve Anderson, president. Ps, Sorry for the windy response.

I would have given all A's but for these drawbacks: Time was of the essence due to the Dec. 31st tax credit deadline and the rainy weather. Called in October, windows measured Oct 31st. I was told 2- 3 weeks for order to go through. At the end of November, I finally called. The windows had arrived, but I don't know how long they were sitting there since no one called me. The second negative was that the cost of the permit was not made clear. I was told that the $200 for pulling the permit was waived and so I did not have to worry about it. I was given the total cost, $10,780. After paying the $1000 deposit, I received another bill for $272, for the permit. When I called about it, I was told the $200 waived was for the cost of "pulling" the permit; that is, for them to do paper work and "getting" it.... not for the permit itself. I found that misleading and suggested that they put the total price, and the words "plus cost of permit." The clerk said it should have been there, but it was not. Thus my total was really $11,052. Thirdly, the frames should have been painted BEFORE installation, not after. The result was a horrible paint job by an installer who did not know much about painting. Smears on all 9 window sides. Installation was perfect; it was not the installer's fault about the bad paint job; he had never had to paint before. However, Progressive was very agreeable and cooperative in remedying the situation immediately. For that, I give them an A+. Yes, I would recommend them again, but would alert others to the above details. I chose them over another company based on how they responded to complaints. They really came through.

Response from Progressive Insulation & Windows
Our customer gave a very helpful evaluation. Some companies would wither under such scrutiny. But Progressive can grow from this kind of thorough analysis and reasonable reporting that addressed the good as well as the concern. We are pleased to be identified as a company who responds with immediate correction when we do not measure up to our own standard of excellence. Of course, no one wants to fumble the ball, but when it does happen, Progressive looks on the situation as an opportunity to improve by examining our people and our processes. Here's what we learned about ourselves after making an analysis. Rainy weather and tight scheduling did have an effect on the overall smoothness of this job. The customer’s comments on the permit issue is helpful. We have looked into ways to clarify this aspect, so that we can avoid surprises for the homeowner. Normally, the window framing material comes to the job already painted. In this case, we brought pre-painted tan trim. Unfortunately, our efforts to retouch some spackled nail holes was sloppy. But we are grateful that our customer gave us an A+ for being “agreeable and cooperative in remedying the situation immediately!” We are disappointed not to have achieved all A’s, but we will definitely use the opportunity to improve. Because we are Progressive, we strive for excellence 100% of the time!

I got several bids on replacing the old windows in our house, deciding ultimately to go with Progressive because of the detailed estimate I got from Dwayne. I appreciated that he really took the time to look at everything carefully and talk to me about any concerns I had. I didn't feel pressured to chose any particular brand of window, and after researching the Amerimax windows he recommended, I felt like extra cost would be worth it. When it came time for the windows to be put in, the installers were extremely polite, punctual, and seemed to take the care I would have, had I been able to do the job myself. The Amerimax windows are beautiful and have some nice features that are simple but meaningful- and an enormous improvement from what we had! The added touch of wood moulding, caulking, etc... all add up to a window that looks perfectly installed. I'm very pleased with the experience from start to finish! Thanks to the whole Progressive team!

I've had 5 typical size windows & 2 sliding patio doors (glass) replaced in my townhouse unit. The windows and the patio doors are great -- these are not manufactured by Progressive, but by another company, Anlin. These windows actually made our house noticeably warmer. As for the installation (the portion Progressive is responsible for), I'm thoroughly disappointed. Bottom line, the workers dragged their feet and took 2 whole days to complete the installation doing what I consider sloppy job, and the sales manager (Gary Stout) started giving me a lecture when I complained. Below I state the facts. From the beginning, they promised tailored ordering (colors) and quick installation -- they failed to deliver on both counts. The installation was being done in December and I needed to take time off work to be present for the job, so I was concerned -- they assured me repeatedly that job will be done in one day, no problem, that it would take a major disaster for the installation to go beyond few hours. I pressed them, saying I'll need to take time off work, so if it looks like there's a slight risk the job will go beyond 1 day, they needed to tell me. The response I got was (paraphrase) -- "Don't worry... we're professionals... we've been doing this for years and years... This is not a big job"... etc., etc. Well, the replacement of windows was finished at 3:30 pm ON THE 2ND DAY. I was present at home all through the time, and this is what I observed: I was promised factory painted white interior trim, pre-painted at the factory, but on the day of the installation, the installers (I was told they'd arrive between 8-9am -- they arrived at 9:20) showed up with tan color trim. The foreman realized the error only after the arrival, and looking at the invoice, he asked me "you want white trim" when I confirmed (slightly in disbelief), he goes to his truck and showed up with a bucket of used paint and a paint brush. I let it go at the moment because I'd lose another day. Workmanship -- In the sliding patio door ($1200 piece), there was about a 1" - 1.5" gap between the wall and the doorframe through which light shone through -- I asked about the apparent mismeasurement, but the worker said "don't worry, we cover it up with trim pieces" -- hmmmm. I let it go, again, because again, I didn't want delays. There must be building codes that this violates -- I'll research later. The installation was done, and after putting on a first coat of paint on the trim pieces, the workers started packing up (this was around 5pm). I asked about it, and they said they'd have to return in the morning to put on second coat of paint. I was told it will be no more than 2 hours job the next day, and they'd be there 8:00am. Really? Fine, I'd call into my work and notified I'd be in at lunch time. The 2nd day, the crew showed up at 9:30am. And by 1pm, they managed to put 2nd coat of paint on 5 window frames -- mind you these are just 2" wide interior trim pieces. The pace was glacial. I didn't understand why it was taking so long, until I realized the workers seemed to hold off on finishing the job until the supervisor (Gary) showed up -- IMHO, to make it look like there's still much left to do. I was informed by the crew they were done at 3:30 -- I took a quick look around, and there were chunks of plaster missing on the wall surface -- not INSIDE the window frame, but on the wall adjacent to the window frame (in addition to miscellaneous nicks and scratches which I accept would happen for a job like this) , and all the trim pieces were laughably painted -- they were uneven (missing second coat in places) and every single window trim except for one was overpainted beyond their edges with ridiculously crooked line -- they decided not to use masking tape (to save time I suppose), but apparently don't know how to paint in crooked line. I complained to Gary Stout and Mike Oscal, and I got a lecture over the phone by Gary, saying that "this is construction, and constructions do take time." (I've heard that line repeatedly from Progressive, so it would appear to be a well-practiced line) I pointed out to Gary that "construction" was done the first day, and the crew took all day the second day putting on 2nd coat on window trims (an amateur job at that). I told him I would have accepted 2-3 hour overshoot, but not the whole day because this was, indeed, according to Progressive, a "small job." I definitely noticed the slow down in work speed -- one worker took an hour to paint 1 window frame, and going away 5-7 times and returning to continue the work -- I cannot read minds, but I would only guess they wanted to hold off on the job so that they wouldn't have to start on a 2nd job scheduled that day. I told him the initial order specified white interior trim (and the work order that the crew had clearly said it), but Gary denied it, saying, "That's impossible because all our trim pieces are wood color." Nice. He explained the "construction" dragged on, apparently because I wanted white trim late in the game. Progressive worked so hard to get my down payment and for me to sign on the line, and it became different company once they had me on the hook. I informed Gary I'm upset that the construction took so long and finishing touches were lousy and would post on Angie's list -- he pleaded with me not to and backhandedly suggested he'd "make it right." Anyway, he never got back to me -- probably because I made full payment the very next morning December 10, thinking I want to just get the whole fiasco over with. But it wasn't done. On December 15, I got an email from Mike Oscal saying, "you've done complaining, we heard you once but we're not going to do anything about it, so now pay up the money." (my paraphase). I was thoroughly insulted. It is now December 22, and I've had to call Progressive 3 times and left messages asking for a receipt for my payment. You see, they already had my money, and I'm no longer a priority customer -- never mind that I need the receipt for $1300 tax deduction -- I suppose that's my problem, not theirs. Bottom line -- these guys are not the only game in town who installs premium Anlin windows. I got a $5 paint job on $5000 set of windows, and the work took twice as long.

Response from Progressive Insulation & Windows
In response to this lengthy comment, Progressive acknowledges that our Sales Rep did incorrectly estimate the completion time to be one day. We also acknowledge bringing the wrong color trim to the job site – tan when the customer asked for white. However, we would like to clarify regarding the matter of the pre-painted trim that all trim is finish-painted on every job on site. The reason for this is that pieces are cut and joined to fit and nails create nail holes. So all trim is finish-painted on the job site as a common practice of installation by installers experienced in doing this finish paint work. The incorrect time estimate to install five windows and a door, was due to special factors not anticipated until the door was on site. To get the door to the place where it needed to be installed on the second floor took special measures – a matter of the physical size of the door being too large for the passage available. We do recognize the inconvenience to the member of Angie’s List and apologize for the additional time he was required to take from work. There are several quotes and claims in this response which don’t match our understanding of what transpired. At this time we have no knowledge of any problem that needs to be corrected. Communication is a two way process. We have endeavored, for example, to reach the member regarding final inspection and have not had a return response either to email or phone calls. We wait to serve the Angie’s List member’s need, but cannot do so without response. We are grateful that the member was able to separate to some extent his evaluation of price and responsiveness from his other disappointments. We are still open to hear from the customer and make right whatever it is that he feels is inadequate. It is not Progressive’s intention to ever leave a customer dissatisfied. We always try to make right a true and honest problem. We respectfully urge the customer to communicate with Progressive so that the job might reach a satisfactory conclusion.

I called for an estimate to install insulation in my attic, and within 1 week, Bob came to discuss what could be done to make my home more energy efficient. I found him to be very informative and helpful. I called to set up the installation appointment a few days later and 1-1/2 weeks later, a crew of 3 workers arrived at my home within the time frame I was given for their arrival. They worked steadily for 5-1/2 hours, never taking a break. After the work was done, they removed all the debris from my home. My only complaints: (1) they did not bring a ladder with them, even though I had informed the scheduler they would need one and (2) they left debris outside my home that I had to clean up (duct tape in my flower bed, plastic on my lawn, etc.). Overall, my experience was excellent and I would not hesitate to use them again when I decide to insulate the subfloor.

My wife and I just purchased a new home in Agoura Hills. We needed 21 new windows and sliding doors and after meeting with several companies, Progressive had everything we wanted. Many companies are not as comprehensive. Progressive on the other hand sent a great salesman (Sam K.) to meet at our home. He measured all the windows and sliding dors; gave great suggestions (we converted 2 regular windows into sliding glass doors), rand eplaced all windows throughout the home. Sam was very professional, curteous and gave great recommendations based on our budget. He then said it was ok to meet him at the Progressive showroom so we can actually touch and feel the windows we were buying..he gave a good comparison of the different glass types and helped us understand the low efficiency styles that are now favorable and required in our neighborhood. We left that meeting very comfortable with our decision...then we were sort of in a rush to get them installed and he helped expedite the order from the standard 4 weeks to about 2 weeks. They even did the permitting for us that was required on the new sliding doors. We then worked with Mike at the store for coordinating the installation. Very organized, very professional and his workers came on time and worked very efficiently. Overall a very good experience, excellent product and we highly recommend this company and the folks that work there!

It was kind of a mixed bag. They were a great company and they really did try hard to do good work, but it took 3 doors to finally get the right one. This was mainly for problems with the company they order from. I would give them an A for how they handled the situation though. The staff are all very pleasant and nice to work with.
