1. We are new homeowners and this is our first pool. We signed the contract for service for a saltwater pool (noted on the top of the contract) on May 8th and faxed it to the office of Duane's Pool Service. We also sent the original copy to his office, along with the bill for $77.50. If he cashed the check, then he received the original plus the faxed copy. 2. The damaged tile - the contractor had nothing to do with this. This tiled area was damaged after Juan, the pool technician, applied a product known as 300 to the area and scrubbed the tile. Upon waking the next day, we found the tiles were covered in a white powder only in the area he was cleaning. In the pool was a tile that had also come off during his cleaning with this product. Area supervisor Ramone, allegedly came by the house when we were not home and deemed our problem a non problem. 3. Upon our buying the property, why didn't Duane tell us the water needed to be drained and started anew? Previous owner never mentioned anything about pool water needing to be drained. 4. You hire a pool service to maintain and clean your pool and that's why you pay them monthly. This company has been in business for 27 years and boasts all their technician's understand the pool equipment. Should a light be flashing "add salt", technician should bring this to the attention of pool owner etc. This was not the case. He never communicated to us that anything needed to be cleaned etc. 5. My name is of Spanish origin. My husband speaks Spanish. Our problem was with Duane, the owner and the lack of service/maintenance he provided us for the monthly fee charged. 6. They did return my calls after 2 or 3 days and after my many calls to their office. 7. Duane's Pool Service took money and did not provide the things in their own contract that they agreed to do. Juan's total time in skimming and vacuuming our pool was 10 mins approximately. 8. We are completely disappointed by the total lack of customer service, professionalism and ethics of Duane's Pool Company. 9. Duane never replied to the complaint but let his office manager do it. To threaten Angie's List with potential ramifications of publishing this complaint in any format whatsoever, even after he circled YES on the complaint form, shows you the audacity and arrogance by which this company operates. Freedom of speech is a first amendment right. I have documented everything that happened with Duane's Pool Service and as an active Angie's List member, who has used your wonderful service and submitted wonderful glowing reports on 3 other of your member companies, I hope you understand that the only problem here is with Duane's Pool Service. Shame on them!
Description of Work: We bought our home two months ago, and it had a three year old pool. Duane's pool service was servicing the pool.

1. The member is a new/first-time homeowner. She never read nor signed nor returned our contract for service. The contract makes no mention of caring for salt water equipment or the care of a salt water pool. 2. Re: the damaged tile - This should be directed to the contractor that built the pool. Routine maintenance does not damage tile. 3. The previous owner of the property was responsible for the chlorine generator. We needed to add chlorine and conditioner to stabilize the water. The pool should have been drained but we cannot do that without the owner's permission, which we never received from the previous owner. 4. Duane's Pool Service, Inc. has been in business 27 years and has been servicing both residential and commercial pools with a very high level of satisfaction from our clients. When a new homeowner takes over a pool they take over the concomitant problems also. Salt water pools require attention by their owners and often times the owner doesn't understand the chemistry involved. The prior owner did not perform routine maintenance of the chlorine generator (we don't service that type of equipment) thus the problem for us trying to keep the water in balance and sanitary. 5. The member's comment that our technician "did not speak much English" is a slap in the face to a very qualified young man who is doing an outstanding job for his customers on a daily basis. His language skills have nothing to do with his level of compentence. 6. We here at Duane's Pool Service, Inc. are not pleased with this process the member has started and refute her allegations that we never responded to her calls to the office. I personally talked with her several times. The owner of the company, Duane, also talked to her. 7. We have voided her invoice 17083 dated 5/32/08 as a form of resolution. There was only one other invoice, which was for service for April and was for only 1/2 a month service plus a filter cleaning. That invoice will not be refunded. 8. We here at Duane's Pool Service feel this issue is closed. We're sorry for the member's unpleasant experience with her new residence and wish her the very best. 9. I strongly recommend you consider the ramifications of publishing this complaint in any format whatsoever. The defamation of our company over a service that lasted less than 45 days is questionable, especially when you consider the historical significance of the prior owner's involvement. - J.R.
