From start to finish, our kitchen remodel project was handled with complete professionalism. The workers showed up on time every day, and all surfaces were carefully covered to protect from dirt and dust. Ed Lane supervised the job with attention to detail, concern for our time and inconvenience, troubleshooting when needed, and patience with my occasional indecision! We could tell that he wanted the final and quot;revealand quot; of our new kitchen to be something that we would absolutely love, and we definitely do! All workers were meticulous about cleaning up at the end of the day, and on the final day, we actually had an and quot;armyand quot; of workers here to make the place and quot;shineand quot;! I would definitely recommend VHC Home Improvements to anyone interested in quality construction and professional service. It's nice to have someone who cares about your home as much as you do!

Ed, the company owner, called about the rating and the problems. He came out and had the electrician come out too. The electrical problem was a bad GFI outlet and has been replaced. Ed returned the next day and put a damper into the hood vent flue. This round of rain, no wind came down the flue. Nothing can change the treatment by the job site supervisor from 2009 but he is not with them any more. Ed said he supervises all of the jobs now and he said they number 4 to 5 a month not the 45 a month from 2009. I am considering another job with them.
Description of Work: They are a different and smaller company now.

We attended a home show and met a Mark Dunckelmann.... he said what we wanted to hear so he was invited to come home and quote. He said all the BS he needed to get us to choose his quote... the biggest being that they would do ALL the prep work. Painting especially! We had decks, ALL the floors ,patios and storage rooms, total kitchen remodel, painting through out, vinyl in only one tiny bathroom, removal of spindals in two wall windows, siding, windows, and 6 can lites..........after Ed arrived we never had or was allowed to speak to the man that made the deal, Mark. They double charged for painting two tiny bathrooms, $900! ( No prep work was done in either room)We were sent away so they could do the entire interior repaint and laying of floor coverings, we were away for 4 days . When I arrived home I was gobsmacked, disgusted and extremely angry. Ed rang about 20 minutes after we got home and had the frigging hide to ask how I liked the paint job. I actually said F****** Awful !!!!!!!! He said and quot; Now don't be like that! I Told him to come up here look at the job and tell me to my face he would like HIS home done like this!and quot; NONE of the prep had been done ... no cleaning , no sanding of the laquered surfaces.. nothing. The house had not been painted for 24 yrs so good prep was essential... something the invisible Mark had promised They had given the painter ONE day to do the entire interior... we learned this by talking to two painters.... the one he rejected as a subby, and the one that did the job and came back to try and fix the job. They actually painted over bird poop on the rail of an indoor bannister....So great prep aye! We paid top $ for vinyl in the kichen and office area.... 3 places in this area have split and curled in areas that have NEVER been walked on!!! They took insulation out and never replaced it. As I sit here and look around me I see stains bleeding through the ceilings... and paint totally stripped off the wood work that was dark and laquered and never prepped. Every time I wanted and tried to contact the s******* that sold the job to us there was no answer. Thanks for the PERSONAL card! We had these theives back time and time again and still have a job that would curl the hair of Holmes. We spent nearly enough to build a new home and no matter how many time s I tried to get the thieves to come back and do the right thing .. they didn't . PLEASE no one ever use these people... they also treat their labour like s*** and pay them nothing.......I know this because I actually took the time to talk to them, feed them anf get to know them. This company has absolutely no good or redeeming factors. PLEASE do NOT use this company!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We at VHC have only one goal and that is to provide excitant service to all our customers. We feel bad when we can't achieve this goal with every customer. Unfortunately there are some instances that can't be resolved. In this case the job being completed in 2009 and all work was completed satisfactory to you at that time. We have attempted to resolve these matters, as we do all our customers. I'm sorry you feel this should be taken care of some 4 years later... so we won't go over all the details of this job here in this venue as that would be counterproductive. What we would like to say is We have hundreds of satisfied customers that we can be proud of. This particular situation is out of our control and would like to have anyone that reads this to feel free in calling Ed Lane @(916)300-4942 for a complete explanation as I would like to clear any misunderstanding that might be damaging to our reputation. Thank you for understanding. Ed Lane

Right off the bat, the first day they were supposed to come at 9 am and they didn't show up until 1:45. They took four days to complete the work even though they told me it would take 1 and a half to two days. The price in the contract was not the same price they charged me. They gave me a lower estimate in the contract and I assumed that would be the final cost. They didn't return my call about a cupboard door that wouldn't stay closed.
Description of Work: They installed granite counter tops, a new kitchen sink and faucet.

VHC had a special on their work and I had to do a double take because of how cheap it was. They did a really nice job and did it all in just 2 and a half weeks for the entire kitchen. They also threw in a free new garden window plus added some free molding. They went by my budget when choosing all appliances. When they installed the granite countertop, they were out in the rain cutting the granit to get it into the house. He got me a discount on my sink by talking to the people at the countertop place and making a deal with them since I was getting both things there. What I did find interesting is most workers were Russian but they were on the mark, they did not mess around. There was a mirror that was cracked in one of the rooms and they ended up doing it for me after I bought the mirror. It took them two time to do it as he broke the first one when replacing it and they paid me for it. They did a really good job and what I paid for it I cannot complain.
Description of Work: VHC redid my entire kitchen. They did granite counters, floors, and lighting. They gutted the entire kitchen and redid all of it.

Day 1 - After seeing VHC at a local Home Improvement Show, I had them come to my house to provide me with a estimate for a total kitchen remodel. They seemed very excited about doing the job and had some great suggestions. I was up-front about my budget even before they came to my house. I was looking to start the remodel in February and was told by them that getting quotes in October was perfect timing (picking out applicances and ordering cabinets takes time). Day 13 - After not hearing from VHC regarding a estimate, I e-mailed them and received a response saying that it would be next week before they could provide me with a estimate. They had been working at various Home Shows and they were going out of town for the weekend. Day 40 - Still no estimate, so I e-mailed and left a voice mail message. I asked them to contact me to let me know if they had decided not to give me an estimate on my job or if they were still working on the estimate. I received a call back saying they were still interested in doing the job and had just pulled my file that day to finish up. They stated they have been very busy with other projects. Day 54 - Still no estimate. I feel that I have been more than patient and even gave them an "out" for them to say they didn't want to provide a estimate, but instead they just don't do anything. A simple one minute phone call saying they were still working on the estimate would have gone a long ways. Does VHC Home Improvements really think waiting 54 and counting days on a estimate is acceptable? The sad thing is I don't even think that VHC cares, they just figure they will get another client to make up for the ones they let fall between the cracks. This experience has really given me a bad introduction to Home Improvement Companies.

see above. no job done, weeks wasted.
Description of Work: spent quite a bit of time showing and discussing potential job at rental condo. SHe never got back to me. i stopped at their showroom on Madison and spoke with her. She just said it was up to other and they hadnt gotten to it yet. I assume the job was too little, they were too busy or what ever, but they didnt have the courtesy to so inform me. So she held me up, since i thought i was most interested in them and waited some more, I mean a total of weeks. Not OK, perhaps Arrogant behavior.

They did a darn good job. I liked that they came in and worked solid. It took about 3 weeks and they were here every day that they said they would be. They did a great job. I walk in the kitchen each morning and I can't believe it is mine. They did an excellent job. It was a little expensive but I've lived in this house since 1986 and it needed to be done. I had to call them back once and they came right away, but it turned out to be a light bulb that I didn't turn. They were very professional. The crew was very personable and pleasant.
Description of Work: I used VHC Home Improvements to totally remodel my kitchen. It included new counters and countertops. The only thing they didn't do was the floor.

The experience of working with him was okay. He came up with the estimate pretty fast for the amount of work involved. I didn’t like that technique. He told me that he would rework the estimate if I decided on using him. I didn’t want that and I wasn’t thrilled about it. His estimate was very high. I will not use him in the future.

Working with the company was difficult. I had some concerns about the way they didn’t seem to have a healthy respect for building codes. They seemed to have a lackadaisical approach in getting inspections done and so forth. Some of the workers were not properly supervised. There seemed to be a communication problem between the workers and my wife. Also, the workers would show up without being properly instructed. We had to call the management to try and instruct them on how to do the work.

The experience went pretty well with the exception of a new foreman being hired after our job had already started. Since he had not been with us from day one, we felt his knowledge of the job was a bit lacking and caused some confusion. Probably would have been fine had he started with us from the beginning. Most of the workers were VHC's own employees and they were all very competent and talented. Would consider this a B+ job.
Description of Work: Refinished kitchen and bar cabinets with paint and glaze, added dentil moulding and cabinet hardware. Demolition of corian counters and backsplash, replaced by granite and travertine tile. Installed new sink and cooktop. Removed box flourescent lighting and installed incandescent can lights and drop lights. Ceiling in kitchen, nook, family room and hall smooth coated, textured and painted. Walls also painted. Demolition of wood and marble floors, replace with new hardwood.
