We live in a house built in 1913 with original oak floors. The floors were a wreck with many darkened spots from water damage and many scrapes, scratches, and loose nails. George Mulder did miracles with the floor and restored it to a beautiful condition. We knew this would be a long difficult job so we wanted to plan ahead. We worked out a mutually agreeable date well in advance and George kept perfectly to the schedule.

Cannot recommend highly enough! We received bids from several people to refinish the flooring throughout our home - ultimately we chose to carpet part and refinish part. George was so knowledgeable about his trade and really understood what we wanted in our home. It was nice to meet someone who understood and applauded our desire to stay true to our house's history and character. He was able to offer historical insights on the neighborhood that no one else did. His prices were competitive and fair. We might have been able to save a hundred bucks or so with someone else, but this definitely wasn't an area in which we wanted to be thrifty at the expense of our new home.
When it came time to do the work, George was efficient and detail oriented. Of all the many contractors we've hired lately for various projects, George seemed to care the most and was meticulous in the preparation and work he did. And despite it being the middle of a heat wave in an un-airconditioned house, he kept on the job consistently. He even rearranged his schedule and worked over a weekend when another contractor's schedule change was threatening to throw a wrench in our move-in plans.
This man knows his stuff and takes pride in his work and it shows. We're very pleased with the result.

George was extremely reliable from the outset.  I called him to schedule a visit & quote, and he promptly called me back to arrange a time.  The estimate was very reasonably priced, and we decided to go ahead with the job.  George and I agreed on a date for him to begin work, and he called the Friday beforehand to confirm.  He came with all machinery needed, was very tidy and left the site very clean each day.  We ran into some unexpected issues with exceedingly thin floorboards, which he replaced as needed.  He made sure to walk me through every step of the way to make sure I understood the work that would be done and why - and at the end of the week we were left with good-as-new floors that matched the rest of the house perfectly.  The final price was only a negligible amount higher than the original quote due to the extra floorboards which were replaced.  Overall a great experience from start to finish, and my husband and I would recommend George and his work without reservation.

George did a fabulous job on my floors!
He was able to revive the floors after years of neglect and tenant abuse.  George was very easy to work with and finished the job on schedule.  I will certainly use him again in the future.

We had a leak under our dishwasher that discolored our hardwood floor. We contacted Molder Floors to repair the damage.
They had to tear out the damaged area and replace it. They did a very nice job and you cannot see where the damage was.

First of all I called George Mulder and left message that I had just moved Into a new home and I had a small 2x 2 hardwood floor area that was slightly warped and separation in the seams. I asked if he would come out to take a look and see what he could do for me. George lives in Sacramento area and drove for over an hour to get to my residence. Came in the house and looked at the area and said there was only a slight problem. He gave me several remedies to fix the problem and even went to his car to retrieve the same color of wood putty and left it for me to use. With the hour drive, the half hour consultation, and some great advice, he charged me nothing. I will definitely call him again for my flooring needs. He's a stand up person with great integrity. Thank you Mulder Floors!

We were a small job and George provided a very honest opinion and good advice given the age of our floor.  We decided that waxing was a better plan than refinishing.  He arrived on the scheduled date, completed the work, and charged us less than the original quote.  We will call him again!

George is a sole provider so when the project became more difficult then he first thought it did take him longer then he had estimated. He responded to all calls in a prompt manner.   He had to run several errands while working on the floor and he was an hour late the first day, he did call to say he would be about 30 minutes late as he had to single handedly reload his truck.  Meanwhile my husband, I and the dog had to wait on his arrival as we were ready at the given time.  We had to be out of the house for 5 days and still be available to let him in to do the work, so it was a difficult time.  The job was more then what he anticipated but I felt that he should have been capable of knowing that when he offered the estimate.  That was my biggest issue and why I would not use him again.  When I hire someone to perform a task that I am unable to do, I expect them to be the expert not I.  His work on the floors was very good and I was happy with the result.
Response from Mulder Floors
"Thank you for your rating on Angie's list. I accept the the poor score for punctuality, I did have some personal problems that interfered with my job and I apologize for that, but as for the professionalism, and lack of knowledge when bidding your project i will disagree. When I bid your job, it was covered with furniture and the sub floor was in poor condition, things that I could not know at that time. That is why it is called an estimate. I suggested not even doing the floors when I saw their overall condition. I repaired more than I agreed to and did everything I could to give you a good job. I guess that's what I get for trying to fix something not worth fixing. George Mulder Mulder floors"

George runs his own business and does his own work, so don't expect a speedy crew with an owner/foreman to rush in and do a hurried job and disappear.  He started on a Monday, Thursday it rained pretty hard so we decided to skip that day and he finished the job early Friday.  He takes pride in his work, it has been a family run business since 1947 and the workmanship is second to none.  It was a toss up for us to try and have the floor repaired and refinished or to just tear it out, we're so glad we kept it.  It had large black areas, pushed up boards, plant stains, dog stains and cracked boards on the sides of the fireplace.  George fixed it all, 99% of all the stains came out, only a small dark area in a back corner shows a slight hint of the ugly that was all over.  We had removed all the furnishings and put up sheets to block the dust.  Actually the dust was not that bad, the large sander he uses has a big bag to catch most of the dust and it worked very well.  The finish is beautiful and George is a friendly kind person with a wealth of knowledge that he doesn't mind sharing.  We tried to hire someone to finish our living room last fall and he was a no show.  In early spring we got another quote that was really high.  Actually the range of quotes went from $750(the no show) to over $1,400, which was the guy just before we met George.  The only down side for us was the smell, I'd forgotten how nasty it can be, if you can be gone or outside it would help.

The job went great.  He did what he said he was going to do, however I really did not know what to expect as far as dust, etc.  It was not bad at all.  I hung up plastic sheets in the doorways so it protected the other rooms.  He cleaned up after himself each day.   I was so impressed with his workmanship.  My kitchen floor is beautiful and I couldn't be more pleased!  I would recommend him to anyone.  He's the best!

The floors look beautiful. George gave us good information on how to treat floors to maintain finish.  He was knowledgable, trustworthy, and did an excellent job in the time quoted.

While some people commune with nature, George Mulder communes with hardwood floors.  On his first visit, his eyes kept returning to the red oak floor boards that were cupped due water absorption from a leaking ice maker hose.  He pulled out his wood moisture meter and checked the moisture levels of the entire floor, and then told us exactly what we would have to do before the floor could be repaired ? remove the wet section of flooring ? here, here, and here drawn with his pencil ? and let the subfloor dry for the rest of the summer (10 weeks). He returned in the fall, installed new flooring, and refinished the entire contiguous area (over 500 sq ft).  The floor looks amazing and the patches are indistinguishable from the rest of the floor.

George was not the first person we called.  We called a local general contractor who said he would sub out the flooring.  Fortunately, he missed three appointments, so we didn?t hire him.  The second guy said he could refinish the floor in a week or two, sanding off the cupped ridges.  The problem with that, so George and the insurance adjustor (our third phone call) said, was that when the oak boards dried there would be grooves where there had been ridges due to the wood shrinking.

Here?s my advice:  call your insurance adjustor and then call George Mulder when you have water damage to a hardwood floor.   A few caveats: George does not move furniture, or install dust barriers, or repair subfloors, and, as he works alone, the job will take longer than if a crew performed the work. But, if you want a ?Mulder? floor, as beautiful as ours is now (better! than before), you gotta hire George.

The job went great and because there was old termite damage to the subfloor, the job took a little longer than expected, something that worked to our advantage, because we developed a friendship with George and were able to discover his other MANY talents!!!!!! We are very satisfied customers!!!!

George was great. He was prompt, friendly, and informative. We discussed all the options. He cautioned us that things may not be as easy to do as we thought, and provided all the pro's and con's of doing the job. We originally thought it would be an easy fix and could be clear-coated, but he explained all the risks of assuming the previous finish on the floor was a clear-coat, and we ultimately decided that he should just attempt to fix the hole and see if he could match the stain. He worked with us and was able to perform the job unattended at times. He gave us the schedule for how long it would take. The bulk of the work happened on the first day, and then he came back the next two days to apply a finish. George even loaned me his cordless drill to finish a small project I was working on. The thing was worth a fair amount, so obviously we had good trust for each other. The drill was great, as was our entire experience. Our family and friends are impressed with the look of the floor.
