Hensley's Restoration

I brought the two table leaves as I wanted to see how Hensley's would approach the job. He (Tom Bradley, owner) suggested I bring in the table top as well since he didn't feel comfortable finishing the leaves without having the tabletop to match. I brought the leaves in on Tuesday, the tabletop on Wednesday and the entire project was completed on the following Tuesday. I was charged the price quoted with no hassle and was extremely pleased with the workmanship, the professionalism and the overall experience.

He quoted me a price. I was okay with the price and left the item there. He told me that he needed to call an art teacher for gilding work that needed to be done. He ended up later telling me that he could not get a hold of her. I had to go back to the location (which was an hour away) and pick up the chair without any work having been done. I was very disappointed.

We had an intricately carved dining room table and chair set which we bought some 35 years ago at an estate sale and used until about four years ago. We had it in an outdoor storage shed for several years, and due to heat and moisture the veneer top began to peel and warp. We had been told by the person we bought the set from that it had been bought by her family some 60 years earlier from a Pennsylvania farm house. It bore the scars of a rough life, including chewing of dogs. Hensley's completely stripped layers of earlier finishes from the set, smoothed the wood so that the natural grain was enhanced, repaired the veneer and applied stain. The owner did the work very quickly. He takes immense pride in his work.
