I wasn't very satisfied. It was mainly because it was delayed for several weeks and I was rather disappointed. I wanted to do a certain job, but they just didn't really either have the expertise or they were unwilling to do it at the price that was set. I had several small items that I wanted done at that time and apparently the person who came in negotiated with the headquarters, so nothing was really done and I was not satisfied with the results. Nothing was really done according to what I intended, so it wasn't what I wanted. It wasn't the price but sort of their unwillingness to do the job that I wanted at the price.

I thought I had a leak in galvanized steel line to house but turned out to be PVC for lawn irrigation. Charged $132 for a 10 minute job. Was also told they would charge actual cost for parts but handyman tried to charge me $18 for 2 PVC couplers, a 4" pieces of three-quarter inch PVC and glue. Still ended up charging me $8 for those parts.

I requested the installation of a doggy door for my 6 six dogs. The door was going through the side wall of the house for convenience. The service tech called ahead of time to announce is approximate arrival. He was kind and courtesy. He evaluated the area where I wanted the door. Called his boss to relay the information to obtain an estimate. Because I was an Angie's List member I received 2 different discounts on the door. If I had the right dog door on hand, I could have had it installed right then. But I had to schedule another appointment for the actual installation. It was no problem to get them back to my house that week. In fact I setup the appointment right after I got the estimate. The door was installed in about 3 hours and it works perfectly. The service tech cleaned up after himself, showed me the work he had done, made some suggestions on how I could make the doggy door more functional for the small dogs I have. I would certainly hire them again for any other small jobs I need done around the house.

I had made advance arrangements for the handyman and had prioritized a list of projects. The office handled this all very well, but the actual handyman did not seem aware of the arrangements. Instead of arriving at 8-9am, he arrived at 11:30 only to perform an estimate of time/projects that could be completed. Per his advice, we decided not to replace the shower faucet set as it would take too much time, so he simply took out the flow restricter on the existing shower head. That left the fan, the ice maker water line, the thermostat and the porch light on the list of possible projects. He left for another job and came back at 5:30pm and only barely got started. He did come back the next day about noon, but I did have to rearrange my schedule to be there since I had planned on everything getting done in one 6 hr. day (per offer). He did not seem prepared--he did not have a ladder (I lent him mine) and he had to leave to go back to the office to get a saw. By 6pm the second day the bathroom fan was installed and he did finish the ice maker line (simply had to turn it on under the house and check for leaks). The fan was a difficult job and did require him to go into the attic to complete the installation. He said he could come back again the next week for another $220 to finish the thermostat and porch light replacements. We declined to have any further work done as this took way too long and I lacked confidence in the handyman. The next week I did call the owner who was very nice about all this confusion who did try to remedy the problem, but we were not able to connect with another time for them to come back and try again to finish the projects in a timely and cost-efficient manner using another handyman. Ultimately, I installed the thermostat myself, and we never did get the porch light replaced. I would not hire this company again, as I was very disappointed in the scheduling and the outcome.
Description of Work: I had made advance arrangements (3 weeks prior) for the handyman and had prioritized a list of projects as they asked. (install a new tub faucet/shower set, replace a bathroom wall fan, hook up an ice maker line, replace a wall thermostat with an energy efficient one, and to replace a porch light) The secretary assured me that they would complete what they could in 6 hrs. as indicated on the offer. I was traveling in from out of town to be there for this project day, so it was important that it could be all done in one day. I reconfirmed with them the day before to make sure everything was on track. When the handyman did not show up by 9:15 am on the day scheduled, I called the office and they had the handyman call me back. He said he would be there in about one hour (10:15 am) and he finally arrived at 11:30-noon just to look at the projects. He was not prepared to do any work when he arrived. He said he was just there to look at the projects, as he had been doing all morning with other people's projects. He would return later in the day to actually start work. He came back at about 5pm.

It was absolutely wonderful. After having a very bad experience with a handyman service in the past I was so pleased to deal with these people. They were smart, kind, and very helpful. I felt good about spending the money because they went above and beyond in every way to make me feel happy and comfortable.
Description of Work: This was for an Angie's List big deal for $99. This company was so wonderful that I hired them for more service that same day! He helped me with some plumbing issues, trim branches around the yard, prop up a tree that was giving me a problem, cut and remove a bunch of tree branches and a variety of other things that needed to be done.

There is only one word that describes this contractor... TERRIBLE ! ! ! I had 3 of the small bedroom doors that I bought new that I needed to have the hardware attached to and hung. No painting, no remodeling, no removing the old doors, nothing. Just cut the hole in 2 of them for the door knob and attach the hardware to all 3 and hang them. I knew the job would take 3 hours (possibly part of the 4th hour) at the most. I bought the "Contractor for a day" offer, which was either 6 or 8 hours, I don't remember, but I knew it was more than enough for $199 anyway. I had to schedule a day off from work in order to have it done because Saturday or Sunday was premium pay so I took a day off from work (without pay) to have it done on a Monday, as agreed upon with the lady that answered the phone and made the appointment. She said she could have the contractor there between 8:00AM and 10:00AM to do the job. I told her exactly what I needed done and since I knew it wouldn't take that long, I could accept the 10:00AM start. Finally, Monday rolled around and I was ready at 8:00AM, just in case the contractor showed up on the early end of the appointment. Finally at 10:05AM he called and said he would be by in a "little while" to "give me my estimate" for the job. I explained to him that I didn't need an estimate, I just needed to get the work done "today" because I had already scheduled my painter to come the following day. He told me he wasn't prepared to do the work, he was on another job. He was only going to give me an estimate. He said if he had to do the job today, he would have to go back to the shop and get his tools for that and he wouldn't be able to make it back until Noon. I agreed that that would be fine, even though I hadn't planned on staying that long, so he said he would see me then. Finally at 1:00PM, after nobody showed up, I called the office and they apologized and said they couldn't reach him and would I like to reschedule. Since I already lost a day's wages and I had already paid $199 for the work to be done, I had to agree. We rescheduled for the following Saturday at 8:00AM. I cancelled my painter and rescheduled him for the following Monday. Saturday arrived and I was at the site by 8:00AM. I had an appointment at 4:00PM that afternoon but I knew we would have plenty of time to get the job done. At 10:00AM, still, no one had arrived so I called the answering service and explained to them. They said they would get back to me. About an hour later I called them back and they said they would have somebody there by Noon. Finally, at Noon, "Randy" arrived. He explained to me that he wasn't the person that was supposed to be there but he had done work for them before and they contacted him to see if he would do the job. I explained to him that someone was supposed to be there by 8:00AM because I had an appointment at 4:00PM and had to leave by 3:30PM but if he got with the program, we might be able to make it. He told me that he had to run to Home Depot for about a half hour first so at 12:10PM he left. He arrived back at 1:00PM. He unloaded his tools, began on one of the doors, and then said he had to leave at 2:30PM. Still with no doors hung, we scheduled another appointment for the following Thursday at 6:00PM. I called the painter once again and just told him to hold off until I could get this job done and I would reschedule the painting job "if" I ever got my doors hung. He told me he could do it in about an hour and a half but I told him I had already paid $199 to have it done. Thursday rolls around, I once again drive to Elk Grove to be on the job for the 6:00 PM appointment and Randy calls at 5:55PM to tell me he was "running a little late" but would be there soon. At 7:02PM I finally called Randy again and he said he was "3 minutes away." He arrived at 7:08PM. He managed to get one door hung and left at 10:28PM. He said he would return Saturday, "around 8 to 8:30AM. I went back to Elk Grove on Saturday morning before our 8:00AM appointment. Finally at 9:02AM I called Randy to make sure he was coming. He said he was about 3 minutes away He arrived at 9:10AM. He didn't have the proper tool to cut a notch in one of the doors in order to install a lock and said he would have to go to the store to get one. I told him that I had put enough time into this project and I would rather just skip the lock and we would do without it. He finished and left at 1:35PM. This is the reason I would NEVER recommend this company to anyone. Not only did I lose a day's pay, drive a 40 mile round trip to Elk Grove and back four times and put my painter off for a total of 3 weeks, I also never did get a "complete" job like I had hoped for. What I thought was going to be rather simple job and paying $199 was a ridiculous price to pay, that was a small piece of what it ended up costing me.

Response from Handyman Contractor
Thank you for your feedback. It will certainly assist us in our continuing effort to improve our service. Clearly the scheduling of this particular project left a lot to be desired for both of us. Ideally, we like to complete a project on our initial trip (if the price is acceptable). Sometimes, however, that isn't always possible. In this case, we had a "perfect storm" of scheduling hurdles we were trying to tackle and the end result was not satisfactory. With this project, we certainly dropped the ball when it came to communicating within the company that you were taking the day off of work. In a case like this, we typically make sure to schedule a time where the craftsman will be available all day for you. I apologize for your negative experience with our company, but I do appreciate your feedback because it will help us improve.

When I called and made the appointment I was told that the work would be done the day of the appointment (6 hours was what I had pre-payed for), however, when the contractor showed up he told me he wasn't available to do the work that day and would have to get back to me on when he'd be available. Since I was planning on him being in my house all day I took the day off work so it ended up being quite inconvenient to have him not be available on the day of the appointment. I did appreciate that he was able to come back and do the work only two days later.
Description of Work: I had a short list of things to do on my house - replace two interior doors, replace all the interior doorknobs, install a new kitchen faucet, extend a water heater vent, etc. I supplied the doors, doorknobs, faucet, etc. The work was done well and I'm very happy.

The handyman came on time, picked up supplies for the repair. He had to make a second trip to the store for additional supplies. He asked me for $10 for gas, which I was under the impression was a loan to be reimbursed. When I called to ask, he said no, it was extra because he had to return to the store. Additionally, he left all the wood that was removed in the front yard. When I asked if he was going to come back to pick it up, he said that would be an additional charge. I feel because I purchased an Angie's list deal, he was trying to nickel and dime me for extras. I have never had someone do work and not remove the debris. He did a good job on the repair, but the non-removal of debris and the $10 for gas money left a bad taste in my mouth.

Response from Handyman Contractor
Thank you for the report on our service. I just wanted to take a moment to respond to a couple of points. First, it is not Handyman Contractor policy to charge a fuel fee and I will take this issue up with the craftsman to ensure it doesn't happen again. Also, we often times do have a debris removal charge, but this is normally discussed before the project begins and is meant to cover dump fees which we are charged. Thank you again for choosing Handyman Contractor, and I hope you keep us in mind for any futrure home improvements. Thank you, R. Casey McGreevy President Handyman Contractor

The minor drywall repair went quickly and is now not even noticeable. Most of the allotted time was spent on the recycle-the-fence-to-an-irrigation-cover project we worked on together. It was good teamwork as I did not have the skills to do it by myself and with his help to do the parts needing four hands and expertise with tools, the cover turned out well. The irrigation stations are next to my patio and were taller than normal to compensate for the slope in my back yard, making them a bit intrusive to patio decor. By using the old fencing, we created a unit about counter height that slips over the stations and also can be used as a buffet for patio dining. The handyman was flexible in working with a homeowner who had a "sketchy" idea about what they wanted and was able to adjust to new ideas as we worked.
Description of Work: I responded to an Angie's List offer of four hours of handyman work for $99. I needed some drywall repair--a hole of about an inch in diameter in my computer room. Any time left in the four hours would be used to construct a cover for my irrigation stations by recycling old grape-stake fencing from a plan I had sketched out.

The contractor arrived on time and went right to work on the gate. For the front door, he had to go to a hardware store to purchase the replacement stripping. He was gone for quite a while but did the work in a reasonable amount of time when he returned and the fee remained the same as agreed on. I would use this company again.
Description of Work: Repositioned hardware and planed some of the wood on side gate in order to prevent sticking problem. This problem has occurred in the past but not since the Handyman Contractor did his work. Removed front door and replaced damaged stripping on bottom so door would close properly.
