I wanted to make sure the service provider had enough work for 6 hours of labor so they came over to discuss several jobs around my home. The first area I showed him was a leak above the shower which had easy access through the attic. They went up in the attic and let me know 5 minutes later they could do it and estimated $1600. The employee then called his boss and said since it was part of a special deal it would be $1000. He also said it would take a day and a half and would require a helper. The other area I showed him was a leak between the toilet bowl and the toilet itself. I told them I knew exactly where the leak was. They estimated that rebuilding the toilet would be $300 or $250 since it was a part of my deal. I had a friend over (some time after the service provider left) who volunteered to take a look at my repairs. We went to Home Depot for materials and my friend fixed the toilet completely in a half hour. He then went up into the attic and made the necessary repairs within an hour and a half. In summary, I feel the service provider overestimated the time and labor it required to make these repairs and would like a refund for the deal.

Response from Handyman Contractor
I'm happy that the customer was able get their issues corrected quickly and easily. Considering the severely bad grade, I would like to address a couple of issues though. First, the scope that we bid, and the scope of work that the customer ultimately had completed were fairly different, so there is a little "apples to oranges" comparison here. For example, we were going to remove the defective section of pipe and solder in a new section to protect against the flaw that initially leaked spreading even after a simple repair to it. Also, our pricing for this part included the drywall repair which entailed removing the damaged drywall, patching with new drywall, taping, mudding, texturing, and painting to match. So our scope of work in the attic and on the drywall was more involved that what appears to have been done. Also, I would like to point out that this customer had purchased a special offer of 6 hours of service. So, in the case of the toilet repair, if we would be able to complete the repair in much less time than we expected, we would still honor the full 6 hours. Once again, our scope included a few extra things on top of the toilet repair to round out the 6 hours the customer paid for, but when it would come time to do the work, we always make sure our customers that purchase this deal get the full 6 hours. I feel that this grade is a bit harsh since all we did was offer an honest free estimate for the complete scope of work in order to fully address the issues and perform the work in a manner that we can guarantee the results. We are a family run business and we strive to give all of our customers the best service we can provide, and treat our customers as we would want to be treated. Regards, R. It was great. I had a call from them recently and had them out just a few months ago to put in some ceiling fans. He comes out and does all the work by himself. He was wonderful. He hung a new tapestry for me. He put a new towel rack in my bathroom. He also re-fit a faucet that came loose. He’s very reliable and honest.

The only thing that stood out was that the experience with the individual wasn't very good. He didn't have the knowledge. The pricing was an A but it wasn't worth the service. They were punctual.

It was a Big Deal service. It ended up frustrating. I had a handyman for a whole day and what he did was he painted the fireplace and he only got half of it done so the business owner sent out another guy and they finished it so that worked out fine. The handyman for a day turned out fine. I didn't pay more than the price of the deal. The first person that they sent out was not qualified to do the job but then they rectified it. They handled it. They made it good and it turned out great.

William and his 2-helper crew showed proper awareness, expertise, and speed. His written estimate/contract seemed fair. He told me he estimated 27 man hours; they actually finished the job in 15 man hours, so my cost on a per-hour basis was expensive. Quality of their work was very good, except they disconnected the controls to our drip system, apparently when they were working on the electric dryer. They did not re-connect, but, since it was such a minor thing, I did not call back on it.

I contacted another company and had the work done for the same price including the ceiling fan.
Description of Work: The provider gave a verbal bid for the installation of a ceiling fan and indicated that additional parts may be needed which I should pay for separately. I would also have to provide the ceiling fan. He seemed to be confused as to where the power source would be and mentioned possibly removing drywall.

Thank you for your feedback. This is why we provide a free estimate priced by the job, not by the hour, before any work begins. It gives our customers a chance to compare our pricing and service against other companies at no risk or obligation. This particular bid was quite a bit more expensive than a standard ceiling fan installation or replacement due to how we believed the new wiring would need to be run to the new location, as well as the additional bracing in the ceiling needed to support the weight of the fan.

I had a laundry list of "Honey Do's" that I did not feel confident completing myself so when I saw the deal for $199 for six hours...I jumped on it. Raff was courteous and patient with me...even when I asked to him to move a large, heavy clock that he had already hung because I didn't like the placement. It was an overall good experience and I will be looking for the next deal to mark more items off my list!

Bought the $199 Angie List deal for up to 6 labor hours. Overall they did a good job. Price was higher than what I wanted to pay. I figured that is the going rate usually for contractors. The Angie List deal definitely helped with reducing the cost. William (contractor) worked hard along with his assistant. It was pretty hot in the afternoon. Digging the trench didn't looked like fun at all! I did want to point out 1 thing. They arrived on time at 9 am and did work for about 2 hours. Then William told me he had to leave for another appointment in Elk Grove that he totally forgot about. He was gone for 2 hrs and came back at 1 pm to finish the job. It wasn't a big deal to me since I took the day off. But for others, it may be a hassle if they took off an allotted amount of time from their employees. It's something that needed to be addressed.

The provider came out and looked at the scope of work I needed. He was late getting here. Called to notify me he was running late due to traffic. He was unrealistic with the amount of work needed to complete the job. He was unprofessional seemed tired and unwilling to do more than maybe hang a picture or put up drapes or possibly change a light bulb. He wasn't ready to put in a days work. I was willing to work with him and have him start the job and I would finish up. He declined stating that it was a complete cabinet refacing job which its not. Its adding wainscoting to a flat surface. There is no rebuilding or replacing of cabinet doors.
Description of Work: I purchased a big deal for $199 for a handyman for 6 hours. I wanted the provider to put up wainscoting on my cabinets. I also had some light electrical work. I wanted to have my recessed lighting changed to pendent lights.

Response from Handyman Contractor
The customer's evaluation of the amount of work her projects entailed is inaccurate. Installing the wainscoting to the cabinet doors was going to take more than 6 hours. Finish carpentry is a very precise and time consuming project. We are not willing to sacrifice the quality of our work, especially in finish carpentry, just to get something done quickly. The craftsman that we had on site has over 20 years of experience in home improvement and remodeling, and between his evaluation and our experience with over 30,000 customers, we determined that this project would take longer than 6 hours. The customer also had another project to replace recessed lights with hanging lights, however once again the amount of work needed for this, which included bracing the new fixtures and the subsequent drywall repair, was going to be more than 6 hours. We informed the customer that we had 3 options we could pursue. The first option would be to provide her with an estimate to do the wainscoting or the lights, and include the large discount she'd get from the Big Deal giving her a considerable savings. The second option was to hold onto the Big Deal and use it for another project she may have in the future that would fit within the 6 hours. The third option was to get a refund for the Big Deal she purchased. The customer informed me that she would pursue getting a refund. Simply put, despite the customer's expectations, the reality of the situation was that each her projects would take more than 6 hours. Furthermore, she didn't even give us the opportunity to provide her with an estimate for either of her projects which would have included her Big Deal discount.

I know this is two years later but the tenants moved out and this is the first time I saw the horrible job they did. It looks like they used a can of spray texture and left blobs. The texturing is completely different from what is already on the wall. For the ceiling, they poorly textured 3/4 of the hallway ceiling, once again not matching surrounding texturing, and left 1/4 of the ceiling in the original texture. Horrible job. If I had seen this sooner I would have demanded my money back, plus the cost of repairing what they did. If they couldn't match the texture they should have said so ad I would have found someone else. I could have stood there with a can of bad texture and done the same type of bad job they did.

All of our work is guaranteed in writing. That guarantee isn't there because we are always perfect and never make a mistake. We are all human. The guarantee is there to ensure our clients that if something is unsatisfactory then we will take care of it immediately. We can be reached 24 hours a day, 7 days a week by phone or email. Unfortunately we were never notified by the customer to come to some sort of resolution on the matter. We try very hard to be the good guys in this industry, but if we are never notified of a problem then it is impossible for us to do anything about it. I'm sorry that this particular project didn't turn out as the customer hoped, but I wish I had been notified at some point, even years later, to give me the opportunity to make it right. Regards, R. I had called first part of June to ask questions about Handyman doing a onsite estimate of repairing water damage baseboards and carpet pad and putting carpet back after cleaned.I spoke to a Doris (very pleasant) I asked if she would be able to have tech look at work that Farmers Ins estimated for repair and give me an estimate with there business. She said yes they could see all that was needed to be done and let me know what they would do job for.Farmers had everything covered in list they prepared, all I needed to know was if they could do job according to farmers quotes or write up a estimate according to there business. They had all the info sent to them in file form to look over before coming to home 10 days later so they could be prepared on what to find.Farmers told me they would look over Handymans estimate and compare and decide if it was reasonable.A gentleman named Mike came to home on June 12th around 1:30pm.When he came into home I asked for business card and he said he did not carry any.He said he was here to look at baseboard repair needed and I asked him if he had gone over Farmers repair estimate I sent to office. He said no he did not and that insurance companys usually underbid repair by a large amount.I told him that it was estimated for repair at around $700.00 completed with labor and materials. He asked how much they estimated the bedroom baseboard was estimated at and I told him just for board alone was $58 for a 10 foot length. He said oh no our prices are not estimated by measure or feet they are estimated at what needs to be performed. Then he said my $700 bid from farmers was way low,his would be around $900 just for baseboards and then he would have to get estimate from carpet dept to do there work of replacing pad and putting carpet back.He never wrote a estimate on site,he never measured with tape, used his feet,he never gave me id of any kind,he said he needed my email so he could send me an estimate thru email.I asked about length of time frame and he mentioned 2-3 days.He arrived on a Thursday and by Monday morning I had to call office tosee where estimate was.Agentleman Casey answered and was pleasant but when I asked why it was taking so long since they had my file in email to exactly what I needed he mentioned he would have it by email the next morning on Tuesday.I told him to nevermind the estimate,i did not get good vibes on the professional attitude I received on thurs the 12th and on Monday the 16th.I felt like I caught him off guard by calling and this Mike was not responsive to his promise.I did not appreciate the comments about insurance companys estimates, all I needed was there estimate and to see if my ins would work with them.Never happened. All I had work for was around 25-30 feet of baseboard work, paint, nails, caulking, original carpet nailed back with a 10ft by 3 ft new carpet pad. So I'm not able to comment on work performance being that all this was ,was a aptt to do estimate work on site.

I appreciate the honest feedback. I was disappointed that this project ended for us so quickly. We had the customer's estimate prepared and it was going to be sent out before the end of business the day she called, however she elected to not have that happen. While most of the time we can work up an estimate for a customer on the spot, sometimes it can take a couple days to check and hear back from our suppliers about the material cost. I'm disappointed that the customer had the perception that we were not professional. We are in out 18th year in business and all of our craftsman have at least 10 years of experience in home improvement. We may do our bidding different than an insurance company, but we don't just enter measurements into a computer program. We use our collective experience to provide an honest quote for the full labor amount, so that we can perform an honest job for our customers. In this case, it is frustrating because we feel we did not get a fair opportunity to even do the first step of providing the customer with an estimate. I don't want to discount the customer's feelings because perception is reality to all of us. All I can say about her claims of a lack of professionalism is that the craftsman we sent to her home, Mike, has been a contractor for over 20 years and has an excellent record within our company. We do very much appreciate the feedback, and will use it to review our services in order to constantly improve our customers' experience.

I had a large exterior deck added to the second level of my home a few years ago. At the time of the construction, it did not include a way to get from this elevated 2nd level deck to the ground level without going through the inside of the home to get to the ground level. I met with several handyman contractors about the project, including Handyman Contractors. Their price was reasonable and I liked the fact that their handyman were part of a network and I could reach back to the business if there were issues. Overall, I am very pleased with the result. After the stairs were initially completed, there was a few issues, and Casey from Handyman Contractors came out, looked at the work and the items were addressed. I have done a lot of renovations on the house, and communication with the contractor is key to get what you want, Casey was very open to my thoughts on some adjustments and tuning that needed to be made and he made it happen. The resulting stairs are of very good construction and were done in a way to look like they were part of the original construction. The handyman from Handyman Contractors went out of their way to duplicate the style of the deck. Casey was instrumental at looking at the project and deciding which one of his handyman was the best fit. I recommend this business and approach for when you need handyman services. I plan to use them again for any future projects.

I just want people to know that this contractor is very expensive. I used them before to do some last-minute painting that I needed done. Had I had more time to shop around I would have, because their price seemed really high, but I was up against the wall time-wise so I went with them only because they could do the work right away. The guy was super slow and didn't use drop cloths, thus there are paint spots on the furniture and mirrors. I called them last week to get a quote on having faucets and lighting installed in two bathrooms. Their price was so high I didn't hesitate to say no thank you . They wanted $180 to install two lights (that took my son a half an hour to install, and my son is NOT a handyman, he's a financial analyst. Their quote for the installation of the two faucets was $548. Another quote I got was for $160. I just think people should be aware and fully informed.

We thank you for your feedback. This is exactly the reason we give free in-home pricing, and price our projects by the job and not by the hour. This way our customers will know the full price of the job before any work begins so they can make an informed decision. We know that you can always find a lower bidder in this industry, but we always strive to make our pricing competitive as possible while providing the professional quality you deserve. I will go back and review the pricing on this project to see if and where we went wrong. At first glance, it appears that we expected the entire scope of work we bid to take over a day, so it wasn't just for a couple of hours of work. However, there may have been something we missed that made this particular project easier than we expected, so hopefully our review will uncover that. Thank you again for your feedback so we can continue to try to improve our service. Thank you, R. Casey McGreevy President Handyman Contractor

I called a few handyman company's and left messages, non of them called me back. I called the handyman contractor and Doris picked up on 2 rings. Wow, a live person! She listened to what I needed to have done then she put me in contact with the Casey( the owner). I explained what I needed done. I then took some digital photo's and emailed them over to him. Casey set up an appointment for his tile guy to come over on Wednesday and give me a quote. The tile guy showed up on time and was professional he gave me a great quote and was able to get the work done on the same day. He matched up the grout color perfectly and did a fantastic job lining up the tile. He cleaned up after himself. All in all, it was a great experience. I will use this company service's again.
