Armstrong Painting

Our 1968 home had what looked like, original paint and no gutters. Armstrong came out and gave us a bunch of discounts because it was their slow time of year, because we had the gutters done at the same time as the painting and because we heard an ad on the radio. They came out a few days earlier than expected and finished to our satisfaction. The painter even made a couple of suggestions when applying the trim colors that we hadn't considered and it looked great! Do shop around: We did and Armstrong was the first place to call us back and send out someone to give us an estimate. Do clear the areas of items you don't want painted or in the way of the painters once you book them. Although we thought we had plenty of time to move gardening supplies and such, their early arrival made us have to really scramble at the last minute! Not a big deal - but if you like organization and control, it is better to just pack up everything right away (with any painting service, actually). Do be available the days the painters will be there. We were very pleased to have the painters advise us when they were done priming, putting on the first coat, the second coat and the sealer coat and to come out to witness when they were starting. If you are not on the premises, how would you know? Don't be afraid to take a walk around the property and to point out if they missed a spot or if something is not to your satisfaction - they will fix it! We actually only found one small spot, but the painter insisted on walking around two more times and he found another spot he or his staff missed! The staff were all authorized to work in the U.S., were very very polite and neat! They also left us with extra touch up paint should the need arise. We can always call them if we discover another 'missed spot' or for any reason need them to fix something on this job. They were a pleasure to do business with.

Everything was OK. The first crew didn't paint with the correct colors, and I had to let them know what color each section should be painted. Another person came back out and he was a little rude and seemed like he didn't want to do the job. I wouldn't hire them again.

They came out and gave me an outrageous estimate. Someone called to find out if everything was alright, and I told them that I did not simply want to pay $18000 to have my house painted, and that included a 20% discount. I don't know how much it would cost to get a fairly good-sized house painted, but there was a lot of fancy talk that went on before that. There was a sort of glad handing. They told me that they did all kinds of things, they were special and different, they used special paint, they just didn't pick up painters in front of the hardware store, but used special guys and they've been at the same place for 40 years. They told me that I can?t get this elsewhere and that I should check stuff at the Better Business Bureau. There was a lot of talk to try to get me to give them all my money. Maybe they would do good work, but I don?t know. I really felt that they were scamming me just a little bit. They were very responsive. They came and were quite happy to answer any questions. I felt that their professionalism dealt with selling rather than making me believe in them. I would not use them in the future.
