He always gives great advice even after the job is done, and he takes pride in his work.
Description of Work: In 2006, he installed an A/C component into two houses for me. Last year, he came to check on a unit and changed a filter. He is my “go-to” guy, I consider him my “home repair consultant”.

We began by discussing options for the system. Generally one must balance final cost (including applicable rebates), operating cost (efficiency), longevity and warranties (both factory and installer provided). Dan is not simply a salesman but understands the technology so he described all options available from American Standard/Trane and togerther we optimized the system to be efficient, reliable (due to inherent simplicity) and cost effective (qualifying for all but one small rebate.) Our new gas furnace carries 95% efficiency rating and the air conditioning is rated 14 SEER. Price-wise I think Dan is competitive. Heating and AC is a very competitive business and it is difficult to compare contractors because they install different brands and the consumer is not likely to know which brand is the best or most suitable. Adding to the confusion are the various rebate programs. I went with Dan because he was recommended by a reliable source and he gave me a lot of confidence because he's more like an engineer and less like a salesman and his price was right in there with the other proposals. After all of the old ductwork was removed by another company, Dan began by removing the old equipment making sure that the old refrigerant was disposed in an environmentally friendly manner. He delivered the new equipment to the job site and set the outdoor condenser on a new pad making sure it was level. The planting in the area was not damaged. Next the indoor equipment was lifted into place and connected. Despite horrible working conditions during the hottest weather of the year, the installation is very neat and very secure and shows no signs of a "hurry up and let's finish" kind of job. A new register was added as part of the original proposal. Dan discovered that the old attic ventilator was defective so he replaced at a reasonable extra cost after getting my approval. Next the new ductwork was installed. and a new thermostat was installed and the unit was turned on for the first time without any startup problems. As part of the new ductwork design, each room register now has its own damper in the attic space to balance the air flow in a way that the 1958 heating-only design could not match in terms of efficiency and quietness. Just a few minor adjustments to the dampers were required on the following day. The building and safety inspector inspected the system and we received the approval sticker on the same day. Throughout the process our carpets were protected with tarps and the walls were not damaged. A pleasant surprise to us was the quietness of the indoor part of the system compared to the old system. I like the design of the condenser outdoors for its small footprint and the fact that leaves can't be sucked into it. Noise-wise, the outdoor unit is average in my opinion. Some American Standard outdoor units are quieter if that is an issue. For us it is not. We would highly recommend Dan for similar work. He is very punctual and responds quickly to phone calls.
Description of Work: Entire air conditioning and heating system replaced including outdoor condenser/compressor unit, furnace and evaporator coil in attic, attic ventilator, thermostat and all ductwork.
