I've met Rick on a few occasions. He's done work for our HOA a few times. The work and price seems fair. However, this review is specific to David Starr at the company. We received an invoice for $178.32 in 2015. David sent us a note on 10/24/16 informing us of an outstanding invoice. We received the note promptly and sent a check. We noted that Rick's Gate Works cashed the check on 10/31/16. This is where the problems started. David's lack of customer service has been deplorable. Despite demanding specific information -- "check # the date, The company address! The company name!" -- he's continued to change what he needs from us to prove payment -- now demanding front/back of check sent electronically, which I've repeatedly said we're not willing to do -- and has used condescending and derogatory language against the HOA. I've provided requested information, offered to have him pick up copies of checks ... NOTHING is good enough for David. Today, David threatened to put a lien on our property after already being paid, already being provided documentation requested, and after a horrific LACK of customer service. I will NEVER being doing business with this company again.

I do NOT recommend this company. He was very unprofesional and did not remember the time of our appointment. He did not present his product well nor explain the service he would provide. He said he would send a proposal, but I never heard back from him.
Description of Work: I wanted to install iron gates in my driveway. I called him to discuss cost of installation, design etc.

I spent about $400 on that service. I used them a couple of times and fortunately I get the same guy, so I know him. In case since the same guy came out and it was not like I was dealing with a new guy who did not know the unit I have and my situation. They get people out fairly fast and usually respond fairly fast. I would tell other members that I think that they are good. When I first started using them, they actually had to do more than just come out and repair something or do an installation; those guys were really quite good. They provided me with drawings and told me exactly what they were going to. They were not cheap, but I don?t think anybody that does that sort of work is.
Description of Work: I used Ricks Gate Works about 3 months ago and they had to straighten out a couple pieces of metal because there was a problem and provide some electrical replacement parts for the inside of the alarm for my gate.

Rick's Gate Works originally installed my gate operator (Elite SL-3000) in 2001. Did a good job. Recently, the chain pulling the gate finally broke after 9 years. Called Rick's Gate Works on 4/5 to request repair to gate operator chain and to do maintenance on the gate operator. The person on the phone took my order and the company still had my information from 2001. They said someone will be out the next day to do the repair and I did not have to be present as long as the worker can get access to the gate operator. The next day, a worker left a message they were coming out to do the repairs (after 3pm). I was at work when the repair person arrived at my house and fixed the gate operator chain and did the maintenance on the gate operator (replace worn out parts, inspection, greased moving parts, tested operator). When I arrived back home later that evening, all the work was completed. Received a bill in the mail the following week and I mailed them back a check for the invoice amount. It was nice that the repair was done quickly and that the work was completed without me having to wait around at home for the repair guy to arrive.

They were excellent. They came out to look and take measurements, so there was a fair amount of work involved. Their engineers knew what they were doing, they came when they said they were going to, and they were good to deal with. I thought they were very astute technically. They were quite good.

They have been out a few times to fix the same problem. Each time they fix it, they said it should last a few years but it only lasts a few months. We also have a keypad that is supposed to have an intercom but the intercom doesn't work and they can't fix it. We are not sure how old the system is but we are not confident in it. Sometimes what they do works, sometimes it doesn't.
Description of Work: They replaced a blown fuse in our front gate that goes across the driveway.

Not a good experience. I still don't understand why they wasted my time coming out here for to look at the job then refusing to send me an estimate. Needless to say, I have no interest in hiring a company who can't even send me an estimate on time. Most of the other companies also mailed the estimate and followed up with ME to make sure it had been received.
Description of Work: I called the company on 10/4 and spoke to Brenda to schedule an estimate with Robert on Friday 10/5. The meeting went well, and I was told that the estimate would be sent by Tuesday 10/10. I didn't receive anything, and followed up on Monday 10/16. I left a message with the receptionist and was told someone would call me back. After not hearing anything, I called again on Friday 10/20 and spoke to Robert. He said the appointment was only a week ago (like I don't remember when it was??) and claimed that the estimate had already been faxed. I asked him to read back my fax number, which was correct (I had received many other faxes during the same time frame). He promised to fax the estimate again. It is now 11/2 and I haven't heard anything from the company at all.

Scheduling with Rick's is an ordeal. When you call for an appointment, they'll ''put you on the schedule'' for the following day, but then you must call the next morning and find out what window of time you've been assigned. If that time doesn't work for you, then you must keep calling daily until your schedule and time they assign you match. So, getting the gate fixed became my new part-time job. When the work was finally done, the problem with the main gate was resolved. However, the smaller gate was never fixed and still doesn't work correctly. Also, the main gate now has new problems caused by the repair.
Description of Work: Rick's Gate Works repaired the power gate on my driveway, which was occasionally not opening with the remote. Also, the side gate (for pedestrians) wasn't opening when we tried to buzz people in from the house.

RICK'S GATE WORKS WERE ON TIME AND PERFORMED REALLY WELL ON THE GARAGE DOOR. THEY WERE REALLY NICE, ALTHOUGH WE THOUGHT THE PRICE WAS A LITTLE TOO HIGH.
Description of Work: RICK'S GATE WORKS ARRIVED AND INSTALLED SWING GATES TO OUR HOUSE. THEY BROUGHT NICE GATES WITH THEM AND IT TOOK AWHILE TO INSTALL THEM, BUT IT LOOKS REALLY NICE NOW AND WE ARE HAPPY WITH THE RESULTS. IT WORKS REALLY WELL.
