I had done work with D&D previously, so when I wanted to look into adding a dedicated circuit to my garage for some exercise equipment, I asked Doron for a quote. He provided a quote and some cautions that he may not be able to perform the work, but he wouldn't know until he'd been able to do some investigating. A few weeks later, we decided to try and have the work done, so Doron returned with two team members, ready to add the new circuit. Unfortunately, he realized pretty soon after starting that the existing conduit would not allow a new line to be installed (as he had previously cautioned), but I was determined to find a solution so we discussed alternatives. I asked about upping the 20amp circuit to 30, but he wouldn't do it, explaining how the existing wiring wouldn't support it, and he would not do work that would create a risk of fire or not be up to code. When we ultimately decided on the best alternative that didn't involve tearing up the driveway (new conduit laid along a ridge in the driveway between the garage and the house), I was ready to move forward. Many contractors would have gone ahead with my request, and a few might have tried to gouge me because of my desire to get this done, but I would have a hard time thinking of any besides Doron that would do what he did... he talked me out of it. He was concerned that it wouldn't look that great to have exposed conduit along the driveway, would be expensive because of the labor involved, and he was not convinced the exercise equipment would not work with the existing electrical. We again talked about the existing load on the circuit (as we had previously when he first gave me the quote), and he helped me understand the possible concerns, and recommended waiting until we had the equipment, and only then if we needed the dedicated line, he could come back and do the work. I have a lot of respect for a contractor who is willing to put the relationship ahead of the job, and Doron proved that to me today by NOT doing work I thought I should. When the time comes, should the time come, that I need that dedicated circuit, Doron will be my first and only call.
Description of Work: It's what Doron from D&D DID NOT do that matters in this case, which is expensive and likely unnecessary work. Ultimately, D&D did not do what I had asked them to do (which was install an additional dedicated circuit to a detached garage), and despite the effort they put into exploring whether my problem could be easily solved at a reasonable cost, I was not charged for the visit.

They have good reviews on Angie's List and they have one of the best proposal of the three companies that I've asked bid from. They were conscientious about their work and when problems would come up they solved them. They've caused some little damage to the house which thy repaired to our satisfaction.

Doron called me again later in the day to see if it was a good time for him to swing by. He was at my home within a half hour and had an assistant, Carlos, with him. Of course, the minute he flipped the breaker switch the problem did not persist, but HE DID NOT STOP there. He investigated further and provided several options for how I might proceed, depending on how the unit behaved. He CHARGED NOTHING for his time or advice. If I ever have an electrical issue, I will call him first. I had never had a positive experience with an electrician prior to this day. Thank you, Doron.
Description of Work: I called D & D in the morning and Doron returned my call shortly thereafter. He had a full schedule that day but offered to stop by on his way home. I had a problem with my microwave but wasn't entirely sure if it was the appliance or a more serious electrical problem.

During the Winter holidays, a bunch of the electrical system of my house stopped working. I run two music studios (about a dozen computers) in my house, so, given my work deadlines, this had me really stressed out. Doron opened up the walls and found quite a disaster of wires, ranging in age over about 50 years. The particular challenge of my house was that it was clear that there were various remodels, add-ons, and improvements over the years, and each was done with its own strange set of cut corners and odd electrical logic. He had to rewire the whole house which took about 5 days I believe. He brought it completely up to code, which it certainly wasn't before he came. As for my stressful work situation, every day, I would tell Doron which outlets needed to stay functional for that day. He assured me that those particular outlets would work, and they always did. One glitch could've caused some serious problems, but he was very careful not to let that happen. Doron essentially spent the holidays here getting this whole thing done, and I'm so grateful. I think he actually worked on New Years. By the way, I'm writing this review in July (because I'm lazy) so I can say that all the electricity still works! Way more efficient, much brighter, and plenty of dimmers and modern touches. He is very conscientious and knowledgeable, so although no one wants to go through this ordeal, he made it go as smoothly as possible. So happy with my choice to go with D&D. I was a bit suspicious because he has so many good reviews, so I worried it was manipulated, but no, the guy just works really hard for his clients!

Once again, Doron Garby has proved his professionalism and attention to customer service. Even with our small project, Doron devoted the same attention to detail, including the need to track down the correct ballast for this particular energy efficient unit. Although the project ran well past what might have been his normal "quitting time," he stayed on the project to completion. We are most appreciative of this level of dedication. I would recommend him highly.

We are very pleased with the work he did installing the fan. There was a small crack in the ceiling during the work and he took care of paying for the repair. I have brothers who are electricians and I understand things can happen. Doron was very professional and you know he will take good care of you. I highly recommend him. His prices are very reasonable and he is conscientious about his work and cleaning up. Thanks Doron!! Lupe

I used D & D in 2012 to put in lights in the office. Now, I needed a plug installed. Doron said he would come over on Saturday to give me an estimate for the job. I needed the work done before Tuesday the 10th. When he looked at what needed to be done, he gave me a price and said he could do it that day!!!! He did a great job. Obviously we don't need electrical work done very often, but we will always call D & D Electrical for any electrical needs. Thank you, Doron!

The initial consultation with Doron inspired my confidence in him and that confidence and trust proved to be well-placed. Not only was the quality of the work exceptional and completed efficiently, the level of customer service provided by Doron was simply off the charts. His professional knowledge combined with his personalized approach and solid work ethic is a winning combination. And his crew, headed up by Carlos, was so hard-working and efficient. What was to me a daunting, stressful endeavor turned out to be a pleasure with this dream team.
Description of Work: The scope of the project included replacement of all electrical wiring throughout the house, installation of new switches, new dimmers, new plugs, new smoke detector, the installation of a new electrical panel, as well as some upgrades in lighting, and the installation of two ceiling fans.

The dedicated outlet to our microwave died quite some time ago. We've had a few electricians come out to diagnose the problem and they all came to the conclusion that rats or mice chewed the wiring in our ceilings that led to the breaker. This meant breaking through my ceiling to fix the issue. Since this would now include drywall repair and paint in my total cost, I decided to hold out. Glad I did. I called Doron after reading all the glowing reviews on AL. He and Carlos showed up right on time. They spent about an hour or so inspecting and testing almost every outlet in the home. They ended up finding a faulty wiring job was done in one of our garage outlets. After a quick fix, the microwave outlet was back online! Just thinkning that I could've spent hundreds of dollars more for completely unnecessary work has me praising Doron and Carlos even more. They were also both very friendly and very professional. They are now my GO-TO-guys for any electrical work needed. Thank you, thank you!

Doron and Carlos were awesome! I needed an electrical panel installed and was impressed by the Angie's List reviews D&D received. Doron walked me through the process and let me know to contact Edison to inspect the location of my existing panel (and provided the number so I didn't have to look it up). After I had it inspected, I contacted him to get an estimate and Doron showed up at my house within two hours. Doron explained my options, discussed what was needed. After we signed the contract, he pulled permits and started the work. I left him in my house for three days straight and they did an awesome job, texting me at work with pictures of the work. I installed 2 outdoor lights, 2 outdoor GFCI plugs, 3 indoor plugs, 2 lighted ceiling fans and 1 electrical panel. Best of all, they took care of securing an undercabinet kitchen light that has been problematic. I highly recommend Doron and would absolutely use him again. You get what you pay for.

D&D did work in October 2011 that included replacing a bathroom fan with an upgraded one that included a night-light. The incandescent bulb for the night-light burned out in about 6 months. The location of the bulb made it very difficult to change, so when another burned out again in a short time, Doron came out to replace it with an LED bulb that should have lasted about 20 years; however it burned out in less than a year, but he sent an employee to replace the LED again. Still the LED bulb had burned out in less than a year when I called this time. Doron was very nice about it and installed still another LED bulb, but was concerned enough that he asked why I relied on the night-light. When I explained he came up with a reliable alternative to the problem and installed on the spot a 'dimmer' (which I happened to have) in place of a regular switch in the hall by the bathroom. This has worked out to be an excellent alternative to the fan's night-light regardless. Doron or his employee have made 3 trips to solve my relatively minor problem since installation two & one-half years ago (time enough for him to be the father of a 2nd set of twins), but never was anything but professional and did not even charge for the extra trips and inconvenience. When we are able to do more electrical work or recommend his company, we have no need to look to any other source for help. We are grateful to him and to have found him on Angie's List.

I found Mr. Garby to me very knowledgeable and professional. I am hiring him to replace my old electrical panel. I would recommend his services to anyone. His pricing is reasonable and he is very thorough.
Description of Work: I hired Mr. Doron Garby to find out why my pool pump caused the circuit breaker to trip every night and shut down. He spent about two hours on a Saturday inspecting all of the wiring and the circuit breakers. He even talked to the pool pump manufacturer technician. As it turns out, my wiring was correct, the pump was defective. The manufacturer replaced the defective parts and it has worked perfectly since.

As stated above, D&D did only what they said needed to be done. They at anytime could have sold me all the extras of what I needed for some of my electrical problems throughout the house. They didn't! They charged me just for the call and no more then that. They fixed some of my lights and installed the electrical box under the sink to make it easier for Meile Concierge to install. We will be using them for all our electrical needs during our upgrades. They are the most honest electrical company I have ever used! Thank you Angies List!!
Description of Work: They put a box under the sink, so when the dishwasher company comes to install it, they won't have a problem. The Company originally told us that our wiring was not grounded. However to my surprise D&D showed me that it not only was grounded, but didn't try and upsale me anything nor take advantage of me NOT knowing anything about electrical!

What can I say about Doron? He is simply the best person I have ever worked with. Let's start with the fact that the first time I made an appointment to meet him I forgot the keys to the house and had to reschedule. No problem. Or the two other times I had to reschedule him because my house was still in disarray from my move. No problem. Or the time I picked up the phone and called him to give me a quote on an eletrical issue I was having with my dryer. No problem, came that day. The guy is honest, punctual, friendly, and responsible. Every tradesman should take a page out of his book.
Description of Work: I recently purchased a house and Doron procvided me with an overall assessment of my electrical needs based on my inspection report and need for more overall updated lighting. He also made some immediate repairs such as grounding a cold water line, removing an old landscape light and repairing some damaged conduit in my garage. Even during the estimate process, he took the time to repair and outlet that was not properly installed.

Doron saved the day! (Literally) At 7:00 am on the morning of our annual Superbowl party (50+ guests) we had power losses (not tripped breakers) in some critical areas of the house, mainly our fridge, microwave, tv, etc. We would have had to cancel the party if we couldn't get the power issue resolved immediately. In panic mode, I found D&D Electrical and saw that their hours matched my crisis (7:00 am on a Sunday). I called, left a message, and within 10 minutes got a return call from Doron. He came out within an hour, diagnosed the problem, and replaced the damaged parts in the panel. Our party was saved and we can't thank him enough. We've got more electrical work in mind and we will definitely be calling D&D to do the job. Doron was pleasant, professional, and had a good sense of humor, despite the early morning call. The price was fair and he offered solutions that saved us money instead of trying to hammer us, which goes a long way. As a homeowner, it's nice to have a go-to plumber, electrician, hvac, patch & paint, etc. and I think D&D has just filled our electrician spot. Well done. Thank you Doron!

I recently inherited a seventy-four year old house with electrical work that needed to be brought up to code. I interviewed and got estimates from several electricians, then in the course of interviewing Doron, it became evident to me that he was not only very knowledgeable, but that it was as important to him as it was to me that the job be done right. Doron was at the house every morning to go over what was to be done that day with his workers, and how he wanted them to do that day's work. He then returned every evening?and sometimes in the afternoons, as well?to inspect the work. The house is rather oddly constructed, so a lot of the work had to be done in tight corners and small spaces that were not in easy to work in, let alone reach. There were other reasons, as well, that made the job an ongoing challenge with unexpected problems, but Doron solved these problems, and made sure that everything was always done correctly, and looked professionally done, in the process. Doron?s workers are experienced, know what they are doing, and did a great job, so they deserve some credit, as well. In addition to the challenges mentioned, above, the job presented a particularly special challenge from the start. Doron insisted the work be done to code, which is one of the reasons I hired him. Therefore, both the DWP and Building and Safety were involved. The property used to have two DWP meters: one attached to the the house and one attached to the garage, which is free-standing, and has an office, a laundry room/kitchen, and a studio apartment built into its structure. The house and garage each had a meter, but because of updated code requirements, the DWP rep told me there could now only be one meter assigned to an address, and therefore the garage meter would have to be removed. He also said that the electrical wire that ran above ground from the garage to the old main panel had to be removed, as well, and that the new electrical wire to be run from the garage to the new main panel had to be run underground. Running wire under ground would add approximately $10,000 to Doron?s preliminary estimate of almost 20,000. Instead of running the wire under ground without question, however, Doron spent a lot of time talking to the powers that be at the DWP, and finally got permission to run the new wire above ground, where the old wire had always been run. Doron not only does great work, he is also a good guy. Aesthetically, the wire running from the garage to the main panel at the back of the house had always detracted from the beauty of the garden and the brick paths underneath it, but given my strained budget, running the wire above ground was the only way to go. It was at this time I learned that if there is any way something can possibly be done better, and look better, as well as save money, Doron will find that way, so he decided to look for conduit pipe that might have already been run under ground years ago. He didn?t have to do this; the possibility of underground conduit that already existed would never have occurred to me. But Doron looked for it, and found it. From the garage to the back of the house, the under ground conduit runs approximately 120 ft. under the garden and the two brick paths, under the house and then a small yard, and almost up to where the new circuit breaker box and meter are located. Doron's workers spent at least half a day removing old, dead wire from the conduit and pulling new wire through it?wire that Doron had finally convinced the DWP to allow him to run above ground, which would have been so much easier for him to do. And because running the wire under, instead of above, ground was not in the final contract, he did it at no extra charge. Last but not least, as part of finishing up the job, Doron did one more thing that I would not have known to ask him to do: He ?fixed it? (see "What did the provider do," above), so that the wall around the new circuit breaker box and meter won?t have to be jack-hammered open again if there is ever anything new I want to install in or around the house that will require new electrical wiring. As far as I can tell, Doron thought of everything. When the Building and Safety inspector came to the house, he approved the work upon first inspection, and told me Doron and his workers did a great job. I whole-heartedly recommend D & D Electrical, and will definitely be hiring Doron, again, in the future. My old house needs a lot of work, and it?s a relief to know that the electrical work, anyway, will be in very good, and honest, hands.
Description of Work: The old 200 amp main panel and DWP meter were disconnected and removed, and a new 400 main electrical panel, new circuit breakers, and surface mount were installed in a nearby new location, as required by the DWP. A new ground system was installed, including two 10 ft. ground rods. Overhead main wires were disconnected and removed. A new 100 amp electrical line was installed for the garage area, and a new 90 amp electrical line was installed under ground from the main panel to the garage area. An old sub panel near the main panel was cancelled. Circuits from sub panels were relocated to the new main panel. A second, old DWP meter and all old electrical conduit were removed from the garage wall. Two old sub panels, one interior and one exterior, were disconnected and removed from the garage area. A new interior sub panel, including all new circuit breakers and ground system, were installed. A new flash mount J-box for the garage area oven was installed, and old plugs in the garage area were replaced using existing wire. A new 100 amp sub panel was installed, and a new 100 amp EMT was installed for the sub panel. Circuits from sub panels were relocated to the new main electrical panel. All new circuit breakers were labeled. Two new empty 3/4" conduits were installed for possible future use. Two fireproof metal boxes were installed to cover two fuse box sub panels in closets in the guest house.

I had initially called Doron out to install a couple of new outlets and a ceiling fan switch. When he went into the garage to decide where to put the outdoor outlet he discovered a bit of a wiring mess and asked me if I wanted them to rewire the garage and move some of the cabling. I agreed to this without asking the price (my fault) so it was something of a shock when I was presented with the final bill of over $2000. I'm not saying they overcharged me but some mention of the price would have been good when he asked me if i wanted the work done. This is my third time using D&D's services and as usual Doron's work is excellent and he encourages his guys to have the highest standards, do great work and to properly clean up afterwards. I'm 100% confident in the work he's done and I know if I have any problems he'll rectify them without question.

It went well. It was an odd situation. There was a problem with the pool equipment that was finally traced to the electrical panel. The panel had been replaced a couple of years earlier so it was in good shape overall but between overlaods and malfunctioning breakers, etc, etc... there were some big problems. The bottom line is that Doron came back several times (before the pool equipment was repaired, after the pool equipment was repaired, etc) to make sure he had a handle on just what the issue was, gave me a fair price, kept me informed as to progress, etc. I've used D&D a couple of times now and, after trying out a few electricians, will probably stick with Doron... his prices are competitive (not cheap, but fair enough), he does his own work (other electricians show up to give you the price then sub it out or send out the "B" team)
Description of Work: Doron repaired the main electrical panel after an overload that wrecked some breakers and part of the panel.

The work was completed in two days (not consecutive). Doron was thorough, friendly and performed a high quality job. He made recommendations and gave me options all along the way. He procured the proper parts to ensure my requirements were met. He was fast and they cleaned up thoroughly after the job. I would definitely use his services again and highly recommend him.
Description of Work: Replaced service panel (swapped from 90 to 200). Raised main power line to code. Worked with inspector to coordinate inspection and ensure work passed. Fixed sensor in laundry room. Add switch to power line out to front yard. Wired box with plugs in them in front yard.

Doron and his team arrived on time, and were professional throughout their visit to our house. He paitiently listened to all of our questions and complaints (about our outlets -- not about him!) and gave us a thorough explanation of everything that needed to be done. He explained which tasks needed to be done right away to fix our immediate problems and which ones could be done later on as part of a long-term, more permanent fix. He never put pressure on us and let us make our own decisions regarding the best course of action. He and his team replaced the outlets promptly -- which fixed the immediate problem. They then set about replacing all of our smoke & CO detectors -- pointing out along the way that two of our detectors had been placed incorrectly. They were too close to the heating and A/C return ducts in the ceiling, thus rendering them useless. They installed and hard-wired the new ones in the correct places. Then they started to walk us through the permit process, letting me know exactly what to say on the phone to LADWP to get them out for a site visit to house, setting in motion plans for the longer, more permanent fix to our problems. They were all courteous and completely professional throughout their visit.
Description of Work: Replaced and re-wired two outlets in our kitchen. Upgraded the housing to bring the outlets up to code. Also installed three combined smoke / carbon monoxide detectors.
