Mr. Garby came out with two workers ready to give us an estimate and do any work that might be needed. However upon seeing our problem, he let me know that it would have to be an exploratory dig through the back yard, to see where an electrical pipe led and only then could he give me a solution and price. We really are at the stage where this 57 year old home needs a complete back yard re-landscaping. So I appreciated his honesty. He did not give me a ballpark estimate so that he could start work and then keep raising it on me as he discovered more that needed doing. Since he was there I asked him for an estimate on upgrading our old electric panels. He gave me a very good estimate and we will be discussing the ability to do that in the future. Although no work was done, I felt Mr. Garby was honest with me and did not try to do work and then charge me for something we did not need done immediately. I would call him again when I'm ready to do a big project.
Description of Work: This was an unusual situation of an old electrical pipe being revealed in our back yard after a stump was ground. The line was dead however it was a danger to children because it was sticking up about 2-3 feet from the ground. Our situation was evaluated and determined to be an exploratory job that Mr. Garby could not estimate until he got into the digging. A lot of work would need to be done for something we really don't use right now (back yard electrical). So I asked him for an estimate on upgrading our old electric panels instead. He gave us an excellent quote and we will definitely call him back when we are ready to do the work.

After he did a good job of installing a panel for me a couple of months ago, I called Doron back to do some more work. I wanted a light installed on my patio, a ceiling fan/light fixture switch changed so that the functions were on separate switches, and also a new outlet installed on the patio. He and his assistant showed up on time and did a good job. He found a small problem of overheating wiring which he solved at no additional charge to me. The switch they first tried to use for the ceiling fan caused it to make a buzzing sound so they used a different one and all worked perfectly. Everything is working as expected and I know that if I have any problems he will come sort them out without any argument. If you want an honest tradesman who knows what he's doing, Doron's your guy.
Description of Work: Installed a new patio light from scratch, including conduit. Installed a new outlet on the patio. Changed the switch for an existing ceiling fan/light fixture to one that allowed for separate control of each function.

Doron was professional and on time to the service call. He started right away to look for the problem. He gave us several alternative solutions for our problem. He was honest and straight forward about any costs. He solved our problem. He spent about 45 min. at our house, but would not take any money for his time. I would highly recommend Doron for any electrical problem you may have.

The lights were dimming and occasional power outages. After DWP came out and found nothing wrong(they checked the panel), I called Doron. He came out that Saturday and found a faulty main circuit breaker, which he replaced and burned area on panel. He said I might need a new panel (very expensive), but thought moving the main breaker down and doubling up on another breaker would solve the problem. I did not have to pay until the problem was solved. It was and I paid him the following week. He said he guaranteed his work and if I needed to replace the panel within the year, he would give me credit for the work done. I was very pleased with his work and felt he was honest and gave me the best deal he could.

Doron was professional prompt and did an excellent job preparing the electrical needs for my bathroom remodel. I found his prices to be fair and reasonable for the work he did. He was honest and helpful in determining where the fan unit and lighting unit should be placed. He cleaned up after the job was finished. I would gladly recommend him to anyone and would have him back for any future electrical needs.

I really can't say enough good things about D&D Electrical. If I could give them an A+ I would. I highly recommend using them if you have any electrical jobs that need doing. Doron is very professional, ethical, efficient and friendly. There's really nothing more one could want from an electrician.
Description of Work: I began by asking him to fit a new 200amp panel on my house, to replace the old 100amp one which was old and damaged. He gave me a quote and he stuck to it, even 6 months afterwards. He arranged for DWP to come out to approve the location of the new box, he got the permit sorted out and the inspection took place two days later and the work was approved. I also had him do various other jobs around the house such as installing new circuits and outlets, fixing a dangerous light in the shower and he completely rewired my kitchen which was totally against safety codes before. He and his crew did a great job and I'm very happy with their work and much more confident now that the house isn't about to burn down due to an electrical fire! I already told Doron that I'd like him to come back and install some new lighting for me and we'll be going ahead with that in the near future.

D & D was the first "Angie's List" service call that I made. Doron called me back right away, we scheduled a time to inspect the issues I reported. I have gone through so many electricians...As I'm sure a lot of you reading this review have as well... They weren't honest, didn't fix the problem, didn't know what they were doing....the list goes on. I can tell you Doron was none of the above. In fact, he was the complete opposite! I'm happy to say, I finally found my electrician... Look no further...trust me, you'll be so happy that you did... Thanks Doron!!!

Both instals were done to my complete satisfaction. Service was prompt and the price reasonable. I plan to call Doron back in a month when a third tiffany fixture arrives as it too will require istallation. I was very pleased in every way! Doron is terrific!!
Description of Work: Doron installed two tiffany style pendant light fixtures for me. One fixture was simply a change-out as an older fixture already existed in that particular ceiling location. The other fixture, however, required laying of cable and instalation of an electrical ceiling outlet where none previously existed.

I first called Doron a couple of months ago to diagnose a faulty track light. He arrived within 30 minutes of my call, was pleasant and personable. Within 45 minutes he had fixed the track that a different company was unable to fix. Recently I hired him to do electrical work in a bathroom that was being remodeled. He removed the existing lighting fixtures, checked and brought the electrical installation to code and installed both recessed lighting and wall fixtures. His price was fair and the work was flawless. I am very pleased with his services and will hire him again in the future.
Description of Work: Fix track light section, remove and replace wall outlets in a bathroom, connect a duct leading from a heater fan to the attic, remove old recessed lights, add new recessed lights. Rewire section of bathroom for wall lighting.

I initially asked Doron to come to my house to give me an estimate on how much it would cost to install a special outlet for my electric dryer. I had called around to other electricians and was quoted as low as $375 and as high as $700. When i called Doron, he answered his phone directly and said that he would be able to come out the same day. He assessed my issue and said that due to the location of my electric panel, it would cost about $600 to install the outlet. Since it would cost almost the same to buy a new dryer with the right plug already installed in my garage, I told him I would just buy a new dryer. Since he was already there, I asked him to also check an issue I was having in my master bathroom. I had just moved into a new house and discovered that every time I tried to dry my hair, the fuse would blow for the master bath and the master bedroom. When Doron inspected the outlets in the bathroom, he found that the prior owner had installed the wrong type of outlet that could not support me using my hair dryer. Seeing this, I asked him to check as much of the electrical work in the house because I was worried that the entire house was wired incorrectly. Doron and his assistant, Jose, patiently checked most of my outlets and even went into the attic to check the wiring also. As it turns out, the prior owner (and/or his unlicensed contractor/handyman) had tried to do a lot of the electrical work themselves. Not only was it done incorrectly, they had left major fire hazards in the attic too (i.e. ungrounded wires, open wires...etc). Instead of trying to sell me on an entire home re-wiring or even upgrading my panel, Doron was very honest and told me that even though most of the wiring was done wrong, the wires themselves were in pretty good condition and he could use them to make them safe and up to code. The whole thing took 2 full days to fix and cost about $1800. Doron must have felt sorry for me and my growing pile of laundry because he ultimately installed my dryer outlet for free and even reminded me that I had a 10% discount for finding him on Angie's list. After he was done, I was able to run all of my appliances (big and small) at the same time for about 5 minutes without having any fuses blow out. Doron, also took the time to help me label my electrical panel. I was not planning on spending $1,800 on electrical work but it was the best money I've spent so far. Doron was the most honest tradesman I've met in my entire life. I'm definitely going to have him come back in the future to help me install recessed lighting.
Description of Work: I had a special electrical outlet installed for my dryer and had numerous outlets rewired and brought up to code. Doron also cleaned up the electrical mess in my attic making it less of a fire hazard.

Doron answered his phone directly and came out the next day. He gave me an estimate and made some good suggestions. He completed all the work in two afternoons, and was very polite and professional. I will definitely use them again!
Description of Work: Doron and his able assistant did a variety of jobs for us: They installed two new exterior CFCI plugs, one with a special cover, on the front of our house. They installed a new dimmer and a 3-way switch in our office, installed a new sensor motion switch in the garage, and moved a light switch in the bedroom. They also repaired our yard lights.

Doron and his workers did an absolutely excellent job for us. We?d just moved into this house, and the previous owners had done ?improvements.? After a few weeks, we realized that there were enough electrical issues and potential issues that rewiring the house made the most sense. We interviewed four companies and chose D&D, and are very happy with the work and the price. Doron was on site to watch every bit of the work, and kept going from worker to worker to be sure things were being done correctly. (During the initial part when the wiring was being run, he had four workers on site.) Over three or four days, they rewired the entire house and more. Doron suggested we add a thermostatically-controlled attic fan. We also asked him to add junction boxes for two wall-hung patio lights, and to split the kitchen light switches differently than they?d been. He installed a new 200a panel; at first, he planned to use a wall-mount, which would?ve projected from the wall. While prepping the wall, he decided to use a flush-mount panel. This meant more work for him, but he didn?t charge us, and it looks much better than the other would?ve. He discovered that neither of the two bathroom fans (in the same bathroom!) were vented at all, so he replaced one with a plain light, and vented the other correctly. He added outlets based on our and code needs, moved wall switches to where they made more sense, moved the unattractive circa-1950s doorbell transformer to the attic, and even in one spot replaced a standard junction box with a shallow one, so we could open the pocket door (the previous owners had punched a hole in the door to accommodate the standard box). He also removed and rehung two ceiling fans, splitting the fan switch from the lights, so we can use them separately. When the inspector came out and nixed the existing recessed lights (the previous owners had used the wrong kind), Doron had them all replaced by the end of that same day, so the inspector could return the next day and approve everything. Other than the attic fan, some outlets I added later, and the recessed lights, the price I was quoted was the price I paid, even including modern-style switches and outlets. I would definitely hire them again, but they did such a good job I don?t think I?ll need anything for a while. Doron and his team were very conscientious. Even the plaster man who repaired the access holes commented on how neat and small they were; how he?d seen others leave much more damage.
Description of Work: D&D did a complete rewire of our 1950 house, including correcting errors done by the previous owners. They added wall junction boxes for patio lights, and replaced the original electrical panel with a new 200a, flush-mounted one. They vented a bathroom fan which hadn't been vented at all, and removed and replaced two ceiling fans, putting the lights on dimmers, while the fans worked perfectly on direct power. They also added a thermostatically-controlled attic fan which automatically goes on when the attic reaches about 90o.

After having a disastrous experience with an aquaintenance's recommendation, I called a couple from Angie's list. First was willing to come and give estimate where another just gave estimate on the phone. I was pleased from the start with Doron of D&D, the first I had called. He came and gave me his quote and time for the jobs to be done and stuck to all he said. He even called when he found time to be early to be sure it was convenient. Jobs were done all as described and expected. Thoroughly satisfied with this experience and confident to recommend him.

Doran saved me from having an expensive job done. He is as honest as the day is long. I would trust him completely to do any job.Finding Doran was like finding a jewel. I will always use him for any electrical work that needs to be done. Use him. You won't be sorry.
Description of Work: All the electrical in my home office went out.. I called Doran. He said a service call cost $162 but he didn't want to come out if this was something I could fix myself. He asked if my home office was next to the bathroom. I said it was. He told me to go in the bathroom and reset the ground fault electrical outlets by pushing the red button. I did. It fixed the problem. He was really happy he had saved me the service fee. However, I had something else I needed fixed, a dead electrical outlet in a hallway and I asked him to come out. I live in a brand new house and when he came out he said they had forgotten to run one wire to the outlet. He figured out how much it would cost to fix and I decided it wasn't worth it. So I paid for the service call, and it was worth it.

Doron set up an appointment to perform the work. He phoned me the day before to confirm. He arrived promptly (a big plus with me), He and his crew knew exactly what needed to be accomplished and set about the work in a very efficient manner. When Doron checked my electrical box, he showed me a circuit breaker that was sparking, certainly a fire hazard. He removed the breaker and showed me how the previous electrician had made an inappropriate part fit. (The previous electrical work had passed a city inspection but, apparently the inspector did not catch the improper installation). He also checked the remaining circuits and advised me that both my whole-house attic fan and my bathroom fan were working properly. He answered all my questions and explained everything he was doing. After he and his crew left, I discovered a light switch that did not work. Since it worked prior to his being here, I phoned him. It was not an emergency, so we made an appointment for him to take a look at it. It happened that he forgot to throw a breaker back on after he had completed the previous work. He apologized profusely. I appreciated the apology--even though it was a very small matter. I was extremely impressed by his professional manner, his and his courtesy. I would definitely use his services again.
Description of Work: Repaired outdoor light fixture. Installed new recessed light. Installed new GFCI plug and light switch with new separate circuit in closet. Installed two new circuit breakers to replace breakers that had been installed incorrectly. Installed three GFCI plugs in garage (washer/dryer circuits) Installed new GFCI plug in kitchen. When I decided to redo my kitchen, I wanted to make sure that everything was done to code in the event that I ever wanted to sell the house. I went to Angie's list and chose an electrical contractor that was local, and had an excellent reputation. I called for a free estimate thinking I would only have the kitchen rewired. When Doron Darcy showed up, he gave me an estimate which I thought was very fair, and he said he coud start immediately. That was marvelous because we had already ripped out the cabinets and the new ones were due to be installed in 3 days. He set to work that day. As he worked, he came up with some really great ideas for placement of the outlets in relation to what appliances were to be used at which location (microwave on this counter, toasteroven over there, etc.) that I really felt that we were a team making this kitchen perfect for my needs. He kept saying "this is your kitchen...have it the way you want it to be". The remodel was a thoroughly rewarding experience and not at all the nightmare I thought it might be. His recommendation of the attic fan was fabulous....what a difference in the temperature of the house. It automatically comes on when the attic temp is 100 degrees or above and I notice that the house stays much cooler, much longer during the day. I also feel much safer knowing that my kitchen was done by a licensed professional electrician who knew his stuff and was already highly recommended on Angie's List.
Description of Work: While remodeling my kitchen, I had the whole kitchen rewired (11 outlets) , recessed lighting put in, and undercabinet lighting installed. New breakers were put into the breaker box and an attic fan installed.

This is the 2nd job Doron completed for me. I called him to install 2 outdoor light fixtures like he did late last year. He scheduled my job for the following day. He showed up on-time. He provided options of how he can best complete one of the fixtures since it was not as simple as the others. All the installations were done perfectly. I appreciate that he also cared about how the fixture will look, in addition, to it being functional and safe. He even painted some materials to match. Also, he replaced an electrical outlet that is being used by our water heater. I told him that outlet is for the heater timer (among others) and that I prefer the timer is not affected by this job. He plugged the timer elsewhere so it continued to run while he was working on the outlet. The timer and water heater are still working as always. His prices were very reasonable. Both the jobs he did for me were less than $250, but he completed the job very thoroughly and professionally. He's always calm, focused and never in a hurry.

Phenomenal! I called in the morning and he came out 3 hours later and spent about 3 hours. He did not charge us for the light fixture repair and talked me out of having him replace the motion detector in the back. He repaired it and didn't like the color so he painted it to match my light fixture in the back. In installing the new motion detector, he had to put a hole in the wall so he swept up almost all the garage floor, which he didn't need to do. What I really liked about him, was that as he left, he saw that I had not yet lowered my garage door. He came back to the house, and refused to leave until he saw that the garage door had closed so he knew that I was safe. Also when I was paying him, he noticed that I wasn't using the coupon available through Angie's List and insisted on giving me the 10% off even tho I hadn't downloaded the coupon. We checked the new motion detector that night and it didn't work. I was planning to call him the next morning, but he called me to see if it worked all right. When he heard that it didn't, he came right out and realized that he didn't turn the switch to the correct position. I was impressed that he told me that he had made a mistake rather than blaming the device. He called me again tonight to check on the light. I am very impressed by his followup and that he cares that his work is quality. I would definitely use him again (I will use him again) and I would recommend him to all my friends and neighbors.

I was positively impressed from the beginning. Mr. Garby is a consummate professional, and he listened carefully to what I wanted. He then explained to me what he was going to do, and then he did it. The work was done in an exceptional manner in what has to be the neatest and most skilled electrical installation I have ever seen. It was necessary to break the stucco in order to install the new and larger panel, and there was debris from that demolition. Doron and his colleague cleaned the working area so well that it appeared to be cleaner than it was before he arrived. So I would say that the experience of hiring Doron to do this job was an absolute pleasure from beginning to end. My wife and I are ecstatic with the results and would hire him again in a heartbeat!
Description of Work: D & D Electrical Services removed my home's old 100A electrical panel and installed a new 200A electrical panel. In addition, a new ground connection was required, and that was installed as well. The LADWP needed to be contacted for verifying the location of the new panel, and an application for electrical plan check and inspection were also required and completed.
