Considering the inaccurate response from the company which misrepresents my words and actions, I feel the need to address their points one by one: 1. It is correct that I previously gave a better review, and that AT THAT TIME my sole complaint was about the deposit. However, as indicated in my summary below, it then took many, many months to try to get the permit from the company. It was never done. That it the reason for the downgrade. For the record, I was not "very upset" that I had to sign a contract. I prefer contracts. I was upset that I was not allowed to SEE the contract until after I had bought the Angie's List deal. Not once did I indicate that it was "wrong or unfair" to ask me to put an agreement in writing. I'm not sure why I would take that position, since I firmly believe in putting agreements in writing. I indicated that I didn't like having to spend $250 before seeing the contract. What if I'd spent the $250 on the coupon and then received a contract that was completely unfair? That was my issue. The fact that this is being misrepresented tells me everything I need to know. I'm not sure what the company is trying to accomplish by bringing up my occupation, but it's irrelevant. 2. I did not "demand" that the company get the permit. I only asked the company to do what they were supposed to do. I was initially told that an e-permit could not be obtained, but not told why. I was then told that the owner was going to bring in plans for the house to the city office and get the permit that way. When that never happened, I wasn't told why. After asking repeatedly for a response, I was asked whether I was aware that my home was in a historical district. I was not aware of it. I would think that a contractor would obtain knowledge like this in the normal permit pulling process before the work was done. 3. I was not "adamant" about knowing how the company could possibly offer a deal at such a low price. Why would I ask that when I've seen LOWER prices? In fact, I asked if there were any other windows available for the Angie's List discount which would lower the price. The owner told me that he couldn't offer a lower price, because as it is, his margins were only 20%, and "as I'm sure you know, no one can survive on 20%." Incidentally, I couldn't care less what the margins are. Maybe they're lower. Maybe they're higher. I don't really care. I just take issue with someone saying something to me, and then saying that they didn't say it. 4. As I said, the work itself was very good. It was the customer service (or lack thereof) that I had problems with. The owner finally admitted that he forgot to obtain the permit before the work was done. That would have been fine, if it had been admitted up front and done in a professional manner. Nothing was offered to make up for the error. Any little thing might have gone a long way. Instead, I spent months having emails go unanswered for weeks at a time, and receiving occasional snide remarks via email. I felt there was a lack of professionalism in the manner in which this particular issue was handled. It saddens me to know that the work and the customer service are on two very different levels. I stand by my current review. If anyone has any questions regarding this matter, I am happy to address them as well. ***** I bought the Angie's List Big Deal for 50% off new windows. My old windows were small, single pane, horribly built and drafty. The new ones are fine. They're double pane, argon gas, etc. Not top of the line, but considering I didn't even have screens before, it's a huge upgrade. The owner, Jared, came to my house and gave me the estimate. I asked if there were any other windows available for the discount, but he said it was only that model. He explained that he only made a 20% margin on them, and "as you know, no one can survive on 20%." I happen to disagree with that statement, but whatever. The windows were ordered, and the install went fine. The installers were prompt, friendly, and worked hard to get it done. They knew what they were doing. They left a couple places where putty will be needed to fix the sills, but that was part of the description up front, so I'm fine with that. My problem with this company is the way the owner treated me after the work was done. He said they would take care of the permit before the install. They didn't. After the job was completed, I asked for a copy of the permit so that I could get the rebate from the city. He first told me that he was waiting on the city, and wasn't able to apply for the permit online. He didn't have a reason why. I kept following up via email, and he would tell me something different every time. It was a historical district, so that was taking longer. He was going out of town, and he'd get to it as soon as he got back. He had to take drawings of the house in to the city office, so that was going to take longer. He was at the mercy of the city, etc. etc. etc. It became clear to me after a while that he had no intention of getting the permit. Finally he told me that the cost of the permit would exceed any rebate I would get (which I took to mean he didn't think I should get one). That may be true, but I am now unable to even apply for the rebate, so I don't have that choice. He avoided my questions and sometimes just wouldn't respond. Finally, after months and months of this, he admitted that he had forgotten to get the permit, yet he still wasn't correcting the situation. I believe he was waiting for me to give up on it. The last few times he did answer me, he was condescending and gave snide and rude remarks. I have now not heard from him in over a month, and I guess he isn't going to do anything about it. I was only asking him to do what he was obligated to do. He not only refuses to do it, he's not even nice about it. He has a lot to learn about customer service and follow through. For that reason, I will never use this company again and can't recommend them to anyone. If you do use them, demand to see a permit up front, and good luck getting it.

Response from Approved Contractor Inc.
We kindly ask you to disregard the review above as it doesn't accurately represent the situation. Please see below. If you have any questions regarding this matter we would be happy to address them. Also, please refer to over 80 reviews below with an A rating that properly reflects the experience of our much appreciated customer base. 1. Consumer gave company a grade of A approximately 6 months ago. At that time he indicated the product, price, professionalism of the company was excellent. His sole complaint was that we didn't deposit his final payment as quickly as he would have liked. We had indicated we were out of town and would deposit upon our return but he felt waiting 7 days for a check to be deposited was wrong and bad business. We respectfully disagree. *Note, this consumer is an attorney and was initially very upset that he had to sign a contract. He indicated that he felt it was wrong and unfair to ask him to put an agreement in writing. 2. We did make every attempt to pull an e-permit prior to the start of work. After the work had been completed he inquired about the permit and I informed him that I was unable to pull a permit via the online system. He demanded that I get the permit regardless of what had to be done. Unfortunately, a permit couldn't be issued due to the historical nature of the home. Per customer this is wrong and he has no knowledge of this being a historical property. 3. We never tell a customer what our margin of profit is, however the consumer was adamant about knowing how we could possibly offer a deal at such a low price point. We explained that the Angie's List Deal is a volume driven promotion in which we work on low margins but provide many members a great product at a great price. 4. We are saddened to learn of this customers current opinion of our company, however we feel his previous review of his experience presents a much more honest picture of what happened. We take great pride in our work.

It worked out very well. The gentleman was very professional and took his time in explaining his products. He gave me insight on how the product is supposed to benefit me. The price was good and reasonable in my opinion. His workers came out, were professional and measured the windows. They took the old ones out and put the new ones in a neat and timely manner. It cost a little more because I needed temperate glass in some of my bedrooms. That was a special order; it fell under the budget that I was working with. It worked fine because I had windows replace all the way around, including a new addition. He was very responsive. I would use them again.

Approved Contractor did an excellent job. From estimate through clean-up after the installation, Jared and his crew were great!! Estimate: I got estimates from several different contractors (including the hurry-limited-time-only-offer from a few of them! Aargh!). I was most impressed by Jared's obvious honesty and integrity: no pressure at all, happy to answer all of my question, no BS. And on top of that, his was the lowest price! Also, prior to the installation, I called or emailed Jared with some follow-up questions and he responded immediately every time! Amazing! Installation: Day of the installation, his guys were there on time and immediately got to work. And they worked non-stop all day from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. to complete the entire job in one day. They were courteous, professional, and very hard-working - and these guys knew exactly what they were doing - real pros at this window installation business. Mid afternoon, old windows were out, new windows were in, I figured they were all done. Nope, they installed and then painted some great looking molding that complimented the windows and completed the job. Once done, they did a very thorough clean-up of the work site. Now it's three weeks later/three weeks with new windows: The windows are great!! They function perfectly, very smooth opening & closing, locks work great - firm and secure. The windows are secure and firmly in place, no looseness or rattling. And, yes, they look fantastic! What a difference new windows can make to a home's overall appearance/curb appeal! The noise reduction is amazing - so much quieter inside my home now! And the temperature "control" provided by the Low-E dual panes is wonderful! The house stays at whatever temperature I leave it at - no more coming home to a stuffy, hot house! (I know my dogs appreciate that too.) Overall: Jared and his crew are excellent. I highly recommended Approved Contractor, Inc.

We selected Jared from Approved Contractors after interviewing and receiving quotes from five Angie List contractors. We did not pick Approved Contractors because they were less expensive, which they were not. Approved Contractor was selected because we felt the quality of their product was the best and Jared (the owner) is a very honest person. While all the texture coating was done timely and perfect, I did have a miscommunication with the lead supervisor regarding the custom window frame. I believe it was a language barrier and the gentleman moved and spoke too fast for me to clearly understand him. However, when all was said and done, the window frame was installed four weeks after the paint was completed. The window frame looks really good and I am satisfied with the end result.. Approved Contractors outsourced the work, so I do not hold them responsible for the delay. I would definitely use and recommend Approved Contractor because of the owner Jared's outstanding ethics, and the work ethics of his employees.
Description of Work: Approved Contractor provided texture coated paint on our home on the exterior, outsourced a custom made a window frame for our front window and painted our picket fence and a large pergulo in the back yard. Jared, the owner had a special color texture coating made that I wanted for our house, and it turned out beautiful. The workers were very polite, and did an outstanding job on the texture paint. The fence and pergulo looked very good and refreshed. The window frame took longer than I would have liked.

I could not be happier. Jared Green, the owner, met with me at least weekly to keep me abreast of the work being done. He was very pleasant to work with and his crew was always on time. They kept the tenants informed of what was to happen next so that they were able to prepare, such as, close windows, park elsewhere, etc. One could not find a more professional service.

The Approved Contractor Inc. crew consisted of two workers, Jose and Prai. They were efficient and clean in removing the old windows and patio door, and replacing them with new ones. They did not have to remove the vertical blinds at all. It took about 5 hours including a short lunch break to complete this project. They set up by my front walkway and used the power from my patio for their saw, cutting the molding to fit around the windows. The caulking was neatly done and all the glass cleaned, inside and out before they left. They also removed any debris before they left. My place is very quiet but the difference in noise reduction was noticeable the very first night. The temperature difference was noticeable within a day or so later when the weather changed. And now that I've seen how they handled a heavy rain, I remain very satisfied with this product. I have already referred Approved Contractor Inc. to my friends.
Description of Work: Jared Green met with me to explain the procedure of retrofitting my 6 windows and patio door. He also took general measurements to provide a price. Jared was very thorough and explained the process in detail, answering all my questions satisfactorily. I interviewed two other companies and liked this one the best.

Jared is very responsive from beginning to end. He immediately called contacted us to set up a time and date to give us a quote for the work that would be needed. I appreciate his honesty and his knowledge of the work that needed to be done. We were so impressed with his presentation and lovely demeanor that we chose to proceed with the work and please a down payment. He worked with us on a date that we felt comfortable to start. Amazing. On August 26, 2013, a crew of four wonderful and kind men showed up to my home introduced themselves and began working on the house. They informed me that it would only take about four days. Every step of the way the lead of the crew informed my husband and I what they were doing or what needed to be replaced. We were aware of some extra work and expense, but they oblige and worked with us. We even gave them a couple of surprises as well, but the did the work with ease. I am very pleased with the work that Jared and his team provided. I am always happy to drive up to my house and see that it looks better and of course the needed repairs were done, by someone who is honest and cares about your home just as much as you do. Jared and his team are amazing and easy people to work with. Jared even came by to see how the progress was coming along and that also showed my husband and I that he does care about his work, his client and most of all his own employees. The guys were very clean and made sure that they left the area clean and safe each day. Fantastic JOB!! I have already referred his work to many friends in the neighborhood and at work.

Justin the Sales Rep was courteous, knowledgeable, and gave me a good competitive bid. The bid was a few thousand less than a neighbor paid for a similar installation. Justin stayed with the job from beginning to end, making sure all was well and that I was happy with the results. He worked with me on the installation date due to unplanned travel that came up, causing a slip in the actual installation timeframe. The Installation Crew was prompt, friendly and did the install in one day with the second day spent completing trim and caulking. John, the Install Manager, was always looking to see that the job was done right with concern for quality and minimal interruption to my home. He seemed to work harder than any of his crew leading by example as they say. The crew had a few workers with lots of experience and it showed during the install. They would oversee the work of the "newer younger" workers as they worked together. They appeared to be a well organized crew with the customers satisfaction as thier end result. The windows are dual paned, insulated, with Low-E glass designed to reduce the transfer of outside heat through the window. My wife and I have noticed during the hot month of August and September that our house is much cooler because of the windows. The patio door, also made of the same glass aids in the cooling of the house. Given the amount of window in the doors it makes a significant difference given it has the early and noonday sun. The patio door functions so smooooth and the screen makes it seem like there is no screen. Its almost invisible when the door is open. The locks are so smooth and positive and provides a secure lock when wanted. I would highly recommend this organization to any friend needing windows or doors. They displayed a high degree of professionalism and it was very apparent they cared about satisfying the customer. The windows and door came with limited lifetime warranties and I feel that should I need to call the Contractor for support or service they will be there making sure I'm supported with whatever I need.

From the first contact, I have been extremely pleased with my experience with Approved Contractor, inc. Jared responded within a day to my initial request for an estimate. We set up a meeting for him to come out - he was on time, thorough, professional and a pleasure to deal with. He gave me the current Angie's List deal he had running without me having to ask first and explained all components of what I was getting. He sent his employee Jose out to do the detailed measurements for the windows and Jose was also great. Punctual, courteous and competent. The windows arrived earlier than anticipated and they had several installation dates for me to choose from. Even with slight car trouble, Jared kept me well informed of the slight delay, they came at the later time as promised and did a fantastic job. Couldn't ask for a better experience or better product. Highly recommended!

The two man crew arrived on time and set to work right away. Although the dust turned out to be minimal, the protect the floor area under each window with tarps. They even provided a tarp to protect my computer/monitor and printer. There was no idle chit-chat, the workers were professional so each man knew what had to be done. They cleaned up the work area as they went along. There was no debris left lying around for very long. The only break they took was at lunch time, and the break was very reasonable They were very respectful of my home and worked carefully both inside and outside of the house. They took care not to damage any plants in the flower be with either their ladders or their walking. It was a pleasure to have them in my home.

Purchased Angie's List deal, scheduled an initial appt. The initial appt. was scheduled approx. 2 days after I purchased the deal. The appt. was to discuss options for window, confirm specs, and sign the contract. The appt. took approx. 1 hr. A follow up appt. was scheduled to get exact window measurements. This appt. was scheduled approx. 1 week after the initial consultation. The appt. took approx. 15 mins. A final appt. was scheduled to do the window install. This appt. was scheduled approx. 2 weeks after the window measurements. The install took approx. 30 mins. Overall, very happy with results and Approved Contractor. Considering replacing existing patio and would definitely work with them on this job.

It went beautifully. My original appointment, Jared came to my home and looked at what I had in mind to replace. He then gave me an estimate that was easy to understand, and at a great deal! He sent Jose to come by and do the measuring, and he is a sweetheart. When my windows were ready, Jared called me and asked when I'd like to have them installed. We sent the date, and they were here on time with everything ready to do the job. Jose came to do the installation with his brother, and they were quick, clean, and efficient. They were very courteous, and a pleasure to work with. I am super happy with "Approved Contractors", and would use them again if the need should ever arise.

The installation work was okay. They were however not punctual. The work didn't start the period in which it was supposed to start and, when I called Jared about it and reschedule, his attitude was nothing to write home about (despite the fact that I'd taken time off work for the installation. The second time they came to install a window that they hadn't measured right (mistakes happen, I wasn't too bothered about that), the installation guys were an hour late and I couldn't therefore get to the office in time for a conference call. Anyway, the installation guy was apologetic when he finally showed up not the case with Jared whom I called before they showed up to find out where they were.

I was pretty happy with the work, the only issue was that they didnt wash them after they put them in, so there were finger prints left on them, and one of them was cracked. I called him about that, and they said when the cracked window's replacement came in, they would come out and replace that window and clean the rest. Jerod Green was great to work with.
Description of Work: They replaced all the windows on the house.

Thank you for your business. We're happy to report that the glass was replaced under the lifetime manufacturer warranty and during the glass replacement process all the glass was thoroughly cleaned.

Great work, Jared and his crew were very professional, clean and efficient. He explained everything in detail before hand and all work was performed quickly and on time. On the initial quote he missed one of the windows which he ended up giving to us for free when they realized their mistake. Instead of charging extra, it was complimentary, which he really didn't have to do, but was much appreciated as we didn't plan on that extra expense.
