+ -1 moreMy initial reaction wasn't very happy because I purchased it online from Angie's List and when I called them to schedule an appointment they said I never paid and that I wasn't on Angie's List. So they called me back later and said they found me on another list. I don't understand why there was a problem. So they came out and did the inspection which was valuable and they met our expectations. They came out about a couple weeks later and I only paid the price of the big deal. They provided a very comprehensive report as well as some pictures.
Description of Work: I purchased a big deal service from Residential Heating & Air Conditioning to examine my heating and AC unit.

+ 0 moreI made an appointment for a specific date and time and the company showed up as promised. Jim was extremely thorough and communicated very well what the state of our aging (1989) systems were, what recommendations he would make, what options we have, and what we could expect to get out of the systems for their remaining lifetime. I was a bit worried that the "special" would be a come-on for a more expensive repair visit, or that during this visit (2.5 hours spent) additional charges would emerge. But to my delight Jim made some minor repairs and all of the diagnosis and clean-up of the existing system was included in the pre-paid charges. There was no pressure to buy anything additional and no follow-on repair visits required. I believe I got great value for the price paid.
Description of Work: I pre-paid on Angies List for the Furnace or A/C Safety Inspection & Tune-Up Special. We have dual zone units so I paid for two specials, so that both systems would be inspected and tuned-up as needed.

After the onsite inspection was complete -- used the data collected w/ my energy bills to create a plan on what to invest money on in order to get a return. The whole process was great and I would recommend to everyone even if you need to purchase at full price (vs. Angie's list discount offer).

He was also timely in his written follow up report and responded in a timely manner to questions sent to him by e-mail. I give very high marks to the quality of the work performed, and with the special price provided by Angies List, it was a great value. The quote for the proposed improvements appears to be on the high side (compared to other bids), and therefore am uncertain as to whether I will continue with Residential Heating and AC.
Description of Work: Energy audit. (We took advantage of a special advertised through Angie's List). Assessment of energy wastes and where efficiency improvements could be made.

He gave me a full report and explained everything to me. I have an older house. They are going to come and do a bunch of work. I will get a second opinion on some of the things he assessed but I would say they were so thorough and professional that I am not going to question some of the things because I knew they were problems already. The technician who came out was right on time.

+ 0 moreJim S. was outstanding. He did a very goog job. Our AC is working better than it has in years. He was persistent and made sure that he attended to every detail. We have three smallish dogs and although we were I'll, I was doing all I could to keep them out of his way, inevitably they all came face to face and he was very calm; made friends and kept on working. On a very warm day, with us sick and worrying that he was having to work, his attitude made it so much better. And he got the job done! Also, he heard me fussing that I couldn't our power washer to start because my nephew had moved the levers on it. Jim stayed and got it going so I could wash out the dog run...during a heat wave...that is a place you want to be able to clean out. He was truly our angel.
Description of Work: Repaired broken welds, filled the compression in the AC so we could have a working unit again, covered and reinforced hoses and spots where system was exposed to outdoor rodents and birds, serviced AC and furnace and blower, cleaned filter unit. We had not had service for a couple of years and there was some significant wear and tear. They had to send away for a part, but we got hit with a heat wave right when I'd been in the hospital. Then my husband caught the same very hard stomach flu I'd had. They scrambled and found the part several days early. Jim S came in early on his day off and worked till he got the AC working again. He was cheerful, professional, keeping us informed along the way without being overbearing. He was careful to explore our service history, in order to prepare us for the fact that our failure to have good service (we have been dealing with cancer over the seven years) means we will have to replace our AC sooner than we expected.

+ -1 moreCathy Haire was very patient with our questions. We did several rounds of e-mail Q/A as well as a showroom visit to zero in on the configuration to install. Billy measured our house and did the load calculation and duct design. Mario and Juan spent almost a week with us doing the installation. They were fastidious in preparing the work area and cleaning up. When they left each day there was no trace that they'd ever been here. Charles arrived on the last day to wire the controls and test out the system. Overall, Residential did an outstanding job! We've now lived with the system for more than a year. We found that one of the new vents was noisy in A/C mode. Residential returned last fall and did some modifications to redirect the flow and fix the noise. We're happy customers, warm when it's cool and cool when it's warm! Thanks Residential!
Description of Work: Removed 32 yr-old furnace and ducting. Installed York 95% AFUE modulating gas furnace, York 3.5 ton air conditioner, and ducting (including 5 automatic dampers and an Aprilaire zone controller.) Two new vents and an expanded return air intake were also added.

The serviceman came as scheduled, gave a very efficient assessment of our problem, ordered the parts we needed for a very old furnace from back East, and gave a most fair and even generous price knowing that our funds were limited.
