Monique's Draperies & Shades

While I was pleased with the overall outcome on this project, the customer service from this company is awful. I first experienced the lack of interest and courtesy when I went to the store to enquire about drapery design and service for my home. Note: first impressions matter! The lady in the store acted as if I was interrupting her day and was not helpful at all. Eventually I got her to schedule an appointment for one of their designers to come to my home. The design appointment was not great. I was not impressed by the effort or knowledge of the consultant. I ended up selecting, creating and matching the various designs and fabrics myself - in other words, no value of a consultant. The main probelm with Moniques is that they have no clue how to treat a customer, are unresponsive, late in delivery and have to be tracked down. This comes from the top down in this company as when the owner came to double check the measurements; again I experienced a complete lack of customer service and courtesy. Even though the project was measured by Monique professionals twice, they still managed to make a mistake and one of the cornices had to be redone. The final outcome of the work was good, but it was a shame that the journey had to be managed by me with constant phone calls to them, lack of response and finally, after the installation, not even a call to ask if everything was okay and if I was satisfied - however I did receive a copy of the invoice in the mail very promptly! Certainly this is not the way to treat a customer who had already spent $4,500,00 and still has other window treatments to complete. A "thank you for your business' note or call would have been nice. The one bright spot with this project was working with the installer. He was so professional, knows his stuff, had excellent customer service and was very pleasant to deal with from beginning to end. While I like to support local business, this is one company with whom I will not work again.

For the original installation they sent a guy who was quick and did good quality work.

Monique's did a fantastic job with the window treatment. The fabric is high quality and made to last. The rod is beautiful and we are very pleased. I would recommend this shop for high quality, custom made window treatments.

The designer, Jaye, was consistently late, and didn't return calls. The overall time from the initial appointment to conclusion of the installation took 3 months (early November to mid February). The window seat cushions were the only items that was satisfactory. They came out just as I wanted. The wood blinds were mis-installed (too low) and had some broken parts that had to be replaced. I ended up re-installing the blinds myself to get them hung properly. The designer, Jaye, mis-specified the verticals for the bedroom, and the traveler rod wouldn't fit from wall to wall. The valence was designed for a wraparound installation rather than a w/w install. The traveler was sent back to the factory to be resized, and we decided that we could modify the valence to make it fit properly. Weeks later, the traveler rod was installed correctly. The verticals were too long by more than an inch, and it took more weeks of waiting for these to be refit by the manufacturer.

We were very pleased with the service, the product, the installation, and the price. Caroline was pleasant to work with and was very professional, in spite of just suffering the loss of her husband and business partner. She, herself, came out to take preliminary measurements and give an estimate. Tony, the installer, really knows his business and did an excellent job installing the shutters. He kept us apprised of when he would be coming and if there was a delay. He was neat and thorough in his work. My only complaint was that it took a long time for my checks to be cashed, but perhaps that was due to the personal loss that Caroline was dealing with while trying to run the business.
