Dave did a nice job. We talked about where the fan should go and how to run the wire. He used some of the supplies that I had bought from the hardware store, to help keep the costs low. He did a really neat job installing the fan, he pulled up the molding in such a way that it will be easy to repair (I am doing that) and needed only a 4"x1" cut in the dry wall at the top of the wall, and 1/2" x 2" at the outlet box. He cleaned up and waited for me to get home for lunch to see the work.
Description of Work: Install a ceiling fan where there was no fan or light fixture, run the wiring unobtrusively, fish the wires through the wall and change the existing switch to a two-switch unit.

I had been doing work on my house tying two switches (a light and an outlet) together, and somehow created a short to ground. Dave came over the day after I called him. He spent a good amount of time trying to understand the wiring in my 50+ year old house. In the end, he came up with an easy solution of taking the outlet off the switch, he installed the timer switch that I was attempting to install, showed me how to use it, and replaced a breaker that seemed to be tripping prematurely. He did a really nice job cleaning up after he finished the work.
Description of Work: Removed an outlet from a switch, installed a timer switch, replaced a breaker.

He was personable, knowledgeable, and did a great job.
Description of Work: David figured out that our electricity was off because a Ground Fault Interrupter had tripped on another floor of our house. He fixed the problem quickly and then spent the time to educate us on what to look for if this problem happened again, and how to fix it ourselves.

He returned the call quickly (15 minutes!) and was available to work on it that day. During his original assessment, he thought he might be able to pull out the old wiring and leave the pipe intact, and string a new wire. Once he worked at it for a bit, it was clear the wire + pipe had become one over the years! During the whole process he described the approach he was taking, and his level of certainty about the outcome. I learned a bit about the way the pool light was wired, and what we'd need to do if we wanted it fixed. Since the pipe was as crumbling as the wire, a true fix would've required the concrete around the pool to be torn up to lay the new pipe + wire. I appreciated his straightforward approach and clear descriptions of possible options. Fair price, fast response, good communication--I will definitely call him again when we need electrical work.
Description of Work: We had a brief window of time (a day!) to fix an electrical line for pool light, while it was exposed briefly during a deck installation. The pool light hadn't worked since we moved in, and the pipe was crumbling (possibly from original pool install in 1960). The majority of the pipe was under concrete, and the part that was exposed when the deck was ripped up had been partially cut through. He tested the circuit (good) and line (not good), and we ultimately decided to get the line removed and close off the circuit.

This has been my first serious disappointment with an Angie's listing. I first called Dave on 9/28/06 and left a message on his voice mail...and was pleased to get a very timely return call. He told me he was very fully scheduled and wasn't sure when he'd have his next opening but would give me a call as soon as he knew. Still waiting to hear WHEN I would fit into his schedule, I again called on 5/23/07 (yes, I tend to be a patient person when things are not in emergency category). Based on his previous prompt return of my voice mail message, I left a second voice mail message on 5/24/07 adding that I had been waiting since last September to either make an appointment with him OR have him tell me that he was not interested in moving an electric outlet that needed to be done before I could schedule replacing windows, ground a number of plugs, and replace the control switch to open/close my skylight. It is now 6/06/07...and I've not YET had the courtesy of hearing from Dave.
Description of Work: The work I WANTED performed was to move existing electric outlet(s), ground other outlets, replace electric wall switch for opening skylight. No estimate of cost had yet been quoted to me.

It looked very professionally when the work was done. I would use them again for this service. It took him about 1 hour to do the installation. There was only 1 person doing the work and he did show up on time to the appointment.
Description of Work: They installed one power outlet in my living room. They drilled the hole, ran an electrical line from another outlet in the same room, and put the cover on the outlet.

I thought he did a very fast and efficient job. It took him about 30 minutes. The fan works well. It does not shake or make noises when I turn it on. I thought the price was good. I need to have some other light fixtures installed, so I will be using them.
Description of Work: They installed a new ceiling fan in my bedroom. I had purchased the ceiling fan from a lighting store and there was an existing light in the place where he installed it.

He was a nice guy and he did a nice job, but we would probably not use him again. We have an older house and we had some issues that we felt like would require someone with more knowledge than what he had. We thought that he should have done a few things differently.

The job went perfectly, smoothly and at a fair price. We're having a built-in unit installed and I needed a new electrical outlet behind the unit and wiring for puck lights in the top of the new built-in, so I called and asked for an estimate. Dave was very helpful and even suggested a way of installing the lighting without him having to do any work which saved me money. We set up a time for him to install the new outlet, he arrived on time, did the work, cleaned up after the work was done, was kind, helpful, and professional. I will definitely call him for work we need in the future. We were completely satisfied.

I was glad he was able to figure out what the problem was so quickly and easily. All those little things that seemed unrelated were not and it's great to have everything back to normal now. He took the time to explain it all to me as well, and I appreciated that.
Description of Work: He replaced a circuit panel that was causing several problems in the house. Some of these were the exhaust fan in the kitchen wouldn't go on to high, the porch lights didn't work and several other electrical items that were on that circuit.

Dave responded to our call for an estimate for a list of electrical work we needed done. He came to our house and we walked through all of our projects. We told Dave we were looking into having AC installed, and Dave alerted us to a potential problem. This potentially could have cost us thousands of dollars to fix, but by Dave telling us about the problem before the AC people came, we were able to come up with a no-cost solution! Dave took our list and over the weekend called us back with the estimate for each project. He even sent us a written copy in the mail. We scheduled our appointment and selected our first set of jobs: Two-outdoor outlets. One of the outlets was time-sensitive as it is required for the AC! We plan to have more work done, and Dave will be our first choice for all of our electrical needs!
Description of Work: Dave came out and installed two GFI outlets for us. He was professional and very friendly. He explains everything and never hesitates to answer any questions you may have. Dave even gave us tips on things we could do ourselves to save us some money for our other projects! Not many people would be honest enough to tell you the simple solutions that they can charge a lot for, but you can do yourself for a fraction of the cost!

It was EXCELLENT. We talked at 2.15 p.m., and he was there punctually at 3.30 p.m. as we agreed upon. He immediately checked both outlets and identified the problem in 5 minutes. He patiently explained to me what went wrong, and showed me how I can check these outlets and replace them myself in the future. He was done by 4 p.m. and his rate was really good. The money was well spent on getting a problem fixed, and learning about basic home DIY.
Description of Work: The power to my entire condo went out and I figured that it was because of either the fridge outlet (looks grayish) or the family room outlet (loose).

Having Dave do work on our house was a pleasurable experience. He was efficient, careful about protecting surfaces, knowledgeable, and agile. He crawled along the joists in the attic to the far corners, navigating a mess of insulation and jagged shingle remnants (an onerous job to say the least), all the while maintaining an attitude of good humor. Outside the house, he reattached a landscape irrigation timer that had torn loose from the wall. He definitely "aims to please." I am a very satisfied customer.
Description of Work: Dave ran coaxial cable from the attic space to the outside of the house to make the house "cable ready." At my request, he also checked the light boxes of recessed ceiling lights to be sure that they were free of potentially combustible debris following the recent removal of a wood shingle roof.

Dave is fantastic. I left a voicemail to which he responded the next day. We set up an appointment for which he arrived on time. I would highly recommend him to anyone with electrical problems.

In September 2006, Dave submitted an estimate. We compared his proposal with two others. All estimates were from companies on Angie's list. We were impressed by the professionalism of all three reps. Dave's estimate was the lowest and he was very good at explaining what he would do and the different options we had. He was also up-front about how long we would need to wait for him to do the job. He's a one-man show and has a very steady business. Our project was not time-sensitive so we were able to wait for the service. Dave completed the change-out in a day and a morning (January 2007). He was sensitive to our power needs and made sure the power was out as short a time as possible. He left a clean work site, was careful to point out homeowner electrical safety practices while he was working and he stayed within budget. Dave was professional and always willing to take the time to answer questions and explain what he was doing. He completed the job efficiently. Highly recommended.

Dave was great to work with from beginning to end. Once I had left a message for him, he tried to call me back on a Sunday! When I first tried to get an appointment he was apologetic because he wasn't free for a week, but then he called one morning and said his previous job took less time and if I wanted, he could swing by that day! When he got here, he was on time, very professional and thorough. He explained everything he was doing and suggested ways that would save me money. We had been burned by another electrician and were left with outlets and lights not working properly. He was able to complete most things on my list even though this was just a "squeeze in" visit and we agreed to meet up after the first of the year to finish (due to my schedule, not his). I will most definitely be calling Dave again to help us complete our remodel.
Description of Work: In November: Reconnected wire for under-cabinet lighting, checked and reconnected wire for recessed lights, and checked wiring in powder room and replaced switch and reconnected the neutral wire. PLUS, did some research on existing wiring to outlets that are not working properly.

Dave arrived on time for his first visit and worked with lighting supplies that we already had to replace one halogen can light in our kitchen ceiling. He also replaced a bulb in a second light. He gave us an estimate for the remaining work and we scheduled that visit for two days later. Dave arrived again, right on time, for the second visit. He went about cutting an opening for a new outlet in one wall, and went under our house in the crawl space to run the wire. When he tackled the 4-plug outlet that someone else had installed incorrectly, he realized he needed a new box especially designed to mount between studs. After finishing the new outlet install and cleaning up his mess, he went to buy the needed box on his lunch hour. (NOTE: He did not charge for this time.) When he returned, he quickly finished the job. He was cheerful and focused, but explained exactly what he was doing. He even gave us a referral on a drywall installer to patch the area around the new outlet.
Description of Work: We spoke to Dave on the phone re: some overhead kitchen lighting fixtures we needed replaced, about installing a new electrical outlet, and repairing a 4-plug electrical outlet that had been incorrectly installed by another electrician and had actually pushed through the drywall. Dave agreed to come out and fix the overhead lights the next day. He wanted to look at the badly installed panel and give us an estimate on that and the new electrical outlet.

Job 1: He was good at calling back when he said he would and showing up when he said he would. Price quoted is the price I paid. He had to go rent a concrete drill to punch out from the inside to the outside. I expected him to charge me for that which would have been ok since it was not expected to have needed to exit the garage from a new location where concrete was in the way. He was personable and friendly. I think the work was bit slow and took longer than he expected, but again I wasn't paying by the hour so I wasn't affected by this. He came as expected later in the week to complete the job and was on time again. My only negative is I got some damage on the sheetrock and I wish he had apologized for messing it up or attempted to fix it. Not alot of damage, but I will have to spend time to fix and paint. Overall, I'd choose him again for electrical work. Job 2: No comments.
Description of Work: Job 1: I had two 20 amp circuits added to my main box in the garage. Conduit was moved through the garage and the punched out to outside the garage where I had a new outlet installed for both of these circuits.($500.) Job 2: Dave had installed 2 GFI circuits and outlets outside. One was not working. I had no problem having him come out when I was available. Turns out the GFI button had to be pressed in very hard to reset it. I apologized for dragging him out and he was very pleasant and said it was no problem.($0.)
