Terrible contractor experience. Had to spend a fortune to tear out concrete coping and stone work less than ten years old. Steel was placed too close to the top and edges which caused large cracks and subsequent rust. Asked him for help when it first appeared in 2011 and again when the situation of crumbling concrete chunks fell in my pool in year 9. He refused to take any responsibilty.

Response from METRO CONSTRUCTION CO.
JOB DATE: NOVEMBER 2003. (removed member name) was referred to us by prior extremely satisfied customers. Throughout the entire project the (removed member name) continuously expressed how happy they were with the work (emails available upon request). However, near the end of the project, (removed member name) became agitated when we refused to do extra work for him at no cost. As a result, (removed member name) began to withhold payments and threatened to file a complaint with the State Contractor's Board. Despite (removed member name) inexcusable withholding of payments, we moved forward and requested a final inspection by the city. The city determined that all work was completed in a workmanlike manner and was up to code. As a result, the final inspection passed. Despite passing final inspection, (removed member name) failed to remit any further payment for completion of the project. Instead, (removed member name) indicated that if we did not write-off the amounts owing, he would file a complaint with the State Contractor's Board. (removed member name) filed a claim, which I contested with proof of amounts due. The State Contractors Board determined that there was no wrong doing on our part, closed the case and (removed member name) was forced to pay the balance owed. 7 years later, (removed member name) emailed me indicating that he was having problems with the concrete coping in the raised bond beam area with a water fall under and planter behind and asked if I could go over and give them an estimate to repair it. I complied and discovered the following: Small area of the coping showed minor cracking and due to accumulation of seating water due to sprinklers and overgrown shrubs sitting on top of the coping some rust was being released through the minor cracks as well as the expansion joints. Water was penetrating from the top, water fall was operating in perfect condition and water overflowing prior to reaching the concrete coping. Some natural stone had accumulated calcium deposits. I asked who was servicing the pool, he said he was. I told him he needed to get someone professional because it needed to be cleaned and sealed to prevent further damage. Please, note that concrete does not retain water and natural stone is very sensitive. At this time (removed member name) showed me and gave a copy of an estimate for $2,900.00 from Malibu Canyon Landscape & Maintenance, Inc., they also stated that shrubs need to be cut down and remove them from sitting on top of the coping. I did not give him a price. 10 years later (2014) I heard from (removed member name) again, with the same requests. As a matter of courtesy I called him and met him at the site to find the following: Shrubs had been trimmed at one time. Minor cracks were never repaired nor was the concrete or stone sealed and/or maintained properly. The worse additional damage was the veneer stone at the raised bond beam area which was now full of calcium deposits, apparently was never cleaned or properly maintained. I informed (removed member name) that he had not done anything to maintain the area since 2011. He got mad, started insulting me and threatened to file another complaint with the State Contractor's Board. He further indicated that he would defame us through Yelp, Angie's, etc. (removed member name) did file another claim with the State Contractor's Board which was immediately closed for the same reasons given above. As you know (removed member name) also filed a report with Angie's List. We have been in business for over 35 years with an excellent record, which I believe speaks for itself. 99.99% of our work comes from referrals and we consistently do work for repeat customers. We value our customers and treat every job as our own. For whatever reason, (removed member name) has a vendetta against me. I trust that the city's satisfaction of the completed work and the State Contractor's Board's immediate dismissal of (removed member name) claims prove that the (removed member name) claims lack any merit. (removed member name) false review is solely meant to defame my company. Please note that all materials used such as concrete, color, natural stone, etc. were chosen by the (removed member name).
