Matt was super nice and knowledgeable! We are waiting to see if we will be able to make it work to have him build our deck we are just finishing some other projects before we commit. He was the only one who came out to see the deck after I called 4 other people on angies list. He got me an estimate the was very close to what I had in mind and offered me some additional solutions for privacy concerns we had. I hope that we will be able to make it work so Matt can bless out home with a new beautiful deck. I would recommend you call him!

BLOWN AWAY! These guys are not just deck builders, they are ARTISANS! Because they are not your run-of-the-mill contractors, this is not something that goes up in 3-days so be prepared. (The last contractor we hired 7 years ago to basically replace the original deck in it's existing design did it quickly and it shows.) Matt gave us a realistic timeframe when we started the project that initially seemed like a long time but once he and Kyle started their work and we witnessed all that went into it, we happily adjusted our time expectations. (A big chunk of our project included digging and earth moving which added time onto the project). I found Matt through Angie's List last January after a long search. I chose him because of his photos, ratings and great reviews, the additional link to his website and his Facebook profile where he has even more examples of his work, and finally because he is a Veteran in the armed forces. I like the idea of giving my business to people who put themselves in harms way for our country. We started communicating with him last winter when we got the bug to do this. He came out and walked the property with us, gave us his ideas and a day or two later a detailed estimate. We immediately liked him. Matt has a great personality, he is responsive, professional, courteous and quick to return e-mails and phone calls. He is everything you would hope for when dealing with a professional. I suffered a back injury that was taking much longer than anticipated to heal and we put the project on the back burner until we were sure we could swing such a financial endeavor. I kept in contact with Matt over the months reassuring him we hadn't forgotten him. After we decided we could move forward with the project, we contacted him this fall with the go-ahead and a list of additional things we wanted to add to the project. (we decided to widen the original deck plan and add a jacuzzi spa and storage room to the mix). He came out again, walked the property with us, gave us his ideas and e-mailed a proposal a few days later. Matt isn't the cheapest guy out there but I am convinced he is the Best of the Best. This was a lot more than we initially expected to spend but he didn't just throw up a deck, he transformed our entire living space with quality workmanship and incredible attention to detail. We liked his work and our experience with both Matt and Kyle (and their helper Rodney) so much that we came up with weekly change orders for him with more add-ons and additional projects. They were great at working in the new ideas for the best effect, and coming up with solutions to related issues (we had a makeshift solution for drainage and guttering and he showed us a more efficient way to do it that resulted in beautiful new gutter with another Angie's List contractor that compliments his work). We are in awe of the beauty and quality of his work on a daily basis. Our friends and neighbors are amazed at the transformation and everyone has been referring to it as "the Lounge". We highly recommend Matt and Kyle and will stay in contact with them for maintenance and future projects! They deserve an "H" for Honors!

They were great. Matt came and did the estimate right away. His team was incredibly nice, polite, and on-time. Work was completed without issue. When a few things weren't quite finished ( removing a few hundred tiny pieces of tape they'd put on criss-cross deck railing - they came back and spent a few hours getting them all off. I've recommended them to a few friends who are also very pleased.

Matt was a man of his word. From the initial contact to the completion of the project he was the consummate professional. He listened to what we wanted and delivered in every respect. For instance, he offered great ideas to maximize our view from the decking and even provided great ideas on how to save costs. His attention to detail was amazing; from the cuts of the boards to the installation of the cable-wire railing I had no complaints. I would highly recommend him to anyone.

Follow up. Several weeks later we had some particularly aggressive grass poking through the extremes of the decking. Matt eradicated these as soon as he heard about them and they have not come back. Matt had completed a big project for us just before the holidays. He did such a good job and was so pleasant to work with, that I brought him back to build a small patio deck and privacy fence. I didn't use this company. Called them twice and emailed as instructed, but they never got back to me to quote work. If you are too busy to take on additional work, you should be good enough to say so.

I was on a tight schedule and needed the work done in only 2 weeks! Matt reassured me that he could do it. I was somewhat apprehensive since there was rain in the forecast, and it was essential that the work be completed by the 15th of December. Fortunately, I took the chance, and I'm so glad I did. Matt was terrific! He kept me informed throughout the project. And he finished right on time, despite a couple of days of rain! My "new" decks look sensational. And the process was pretty painless, in spite of my anxiety over the schedule. Matt "held my hand" throughout the project, was most reassuring, explained every step of the way, and worked hard to do the job right and on schedule. Matt and his crew were lovely people to deal with. I am one happy customer! So much so that I am planning another couple of other projects with Matt to begin in the new year. After one contractor abruptly went bankrupt and defaulted on the rebuilding of all five of the decks surrounding our hillside home, we searched for other recommended contractors to bid on our complex project. We asked five builders to bid on the project. Matt was the only one to complete the bidding process. The other highly experienced and well recommended builders decided the project was too difficult. When Matt first arrived to look at our project, I thought he looked too young to know enough to handle such a large and complex hillside project. I could not have been more wrong. Each time we pointed out a difficult part of the project that needed a solution, the other contractors who came to the site had scratched their chins and said they would get back to me on that. Matt, however, immediately provided two or more rational options, recommended one of the options, and explained why he recommended that solution. Matt also had extensive experience building with the Mangaris Diamond wood we had selected for our project whereas most of the other contractors had never heard of it. In the end, Matt was the only contractor who was willing to bid on our very complex project. After talking to a number of people for whom Matt had completed projects, we felt very confident in selecting Matt. Matt is sharp as a tack, experienced, a highly skilled craftsman, honest, very organized, neat, an excellent communicator, efficient, and he even has a great sense of humor! Matt recommended sub-contractors to do stucco work, painting, and other parts of the project. These sub-contractors were all outstanding. Matt truly "had our backs" during every step of this very difficult project. He worked very well with the city inspector. When the engineer and architect we had previously hired made near fatal mistakes, Matt quickly came of with solutions that saved the project and save us money. Matt has an excellent eye for design. Everyone who sees our five new decks comments on the outstanding craftsmanship and beauty of the entire project. Matt never lost his sense of humor or his "can do" attitude during our extremely challenging project. We cannot recommend him more highly.

Matt is the kind of general contractor who stays on top of everything and keeps you in the loop every step of the way. He managed the subcontractors and their specialties (electrical, tile, plumbing, trim and finish work) with a hawk-eye and made sure each did a fantastic job. Even with a slight delay in sub-contraced schedules, we still finished on time. In just four weeks, we had a beautiful new pool bathroom, and for 10 grand less than other contractors bid the job. We've worked with Matt 4 other times, and the end result is always the same: no stress, professional ethics and a flawless result.

Our 20-year old deck had some problems caused by moisture and termites. I contacted two deck specialists for quotes. Because I live out of town and had limited time to meet with them, it was important the guys show up at the agreed time. Matt did. He pointed out problem areas and suggested solutions that fit into my limited budget. The other quote, while more comprehensive, came in way over my budget. Matt fit the job into my requested schedule and completed it within the 1 week estimate.

About 1/2 of our deck was rotting and unsafe. When Matt came out I showed him the problem and he was immediately able to show me the trouble spots and made suggestions on how to correct it. We ordered a new product (Timbersil) for the substructure that will not rot and another more cost efficient material for the topside planking. Then the new and existing deck was power washed and re-stained so that you couldn't tell the difference between the two. The finished product is beautiful. I was given a written bid, contract and timeline. Matt and his assistant did all the building themselves and were a good team. Both Matt and his painting subcontractor finished ahead of schedule. They were exceedingly polite, respectful and considerate and cleaned up each night before they left. I also asked for and received an unconditional waiver and release from Timbersil. All my phone calls and emails were returned within a reasonable amount of time. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Matt to my friends and family.

Matt Thompson is the consummate professional: communicates clearly about cost, time, money, and he listens, and includes you at every step. He cares about every detail, and will go the extra mile to make sure it looks wonderful, even at his own expense. He worked in our yard from FEB 2011 through SEPT 2011, because of the steel and engineering involved. He and Kyle were there almost every day. Can you imagine having a contractor in your yard for 7 months and having NOTHING go wrong? We've renovated 4 houses, and this is the best contractor experience we've ever had. Not only is Matt dependable and talented, but Matt doesn't hide any costs, and is clear about time-lines and expectations. And his finished product is better than we even expected! On a number of occasions, Matt and Kyle also protected us from mistakes other contracted craftsman would have made in our yard on their projects. They also helped us not get ripped off by another contractor. They were always looking out for us. I can't say enough about being able to have a contractor in your yard, and never worry. To always trust them, and not have any "wall" of them vs. us between you. If he sounds too good to be true, it's simply because he cares about the work he does, and about delivering a finished product that the customer loves. I can't recommend him strongly enough for all your wood and repair, decks, fences, etc. You will love the finished product.

I poured through Angie's list and contacted this company because of their A reports for promptness, seeming reliability and problem solving to offer the best solutions and options to the homeowner. I called Matt on July 6 and sent him an email with my info as he requested. He emailed me the next day saying that someone would be contacting me. A man called and scheduled an appointment. At the meeting he asked me what I thought needed to be done vs. looking at the problem and offering solutions as I expected. At the end of the meeting I discovered that he was with a different company. The job had been refered to him because Matt was too busy. I decided to give him a chance but after 5 days (July 11) I contacted Matt again asking if he had heard anything about the bid and expressing my displeasure about having a different company come out.. Matt apologized and said that his foreman would contact me. His foreman contacted me, asked if I could wait and we schedule an appointment for July 26. On the 26th he gave me some options and told me that he could have a price for the deck work the next day. I waited a week. I sent Matt an email on August 2 asking if he had a bid for me and heard nothing. I sent another email August 8 and received a reply stating that he was waiting for his foreman to put a bid together and that he was waiting for the waterproofing subcontractor. Today is August 21. First contact July 6. August 21, several emails later - still no bid. Don't waste your time.

Hiring Matt was an exceptional experience. He came on time, gave a fair price and stuck to it, made knowledgeable and cautious decisions, was a pleasure to interact with and did beautiful work. We put off rebuilding our deck for 6 years because we could never find the right person until Matt. Now our deck looks amazing and everyone who sees it is very impressed. This guy is the real thing. Don't waste your time and money elsewhere.

I contacted Matt regarding getting an estimate for a simple and standard wood fence replacement for my property. He answered on the first call, telling me he would be out the next day to measure the existing fence to be replaced. He did not come the next day, and it was the following Tuesday before I decided to call him again. This time he did not answer, and I left a message. Without calling back, he appeared at my house about an hour later. We discussed the project together and he seemed friendly and knowledgeable on the subject. He told me he would get me an estimate within three days. It's been 2 weeks with no word from him, and he has all my contact information. I expect much more professionalism from any company on AngiesList.

excellent from start to finish. easy to email and very responsive on the phone. matt and his team showed up, measured and emailed me a bid in a day. job was completed as promised, on budget and matched my existing fence work to a tee. highly recommend for gate, fencing and decking (ive seen his work and its great). were planning on hiring matt for extensive deck work once his schedule opens up!

We didn't hire them. They were, like all the people we called out, very professional and very knowledgeable. He had samples of the different composite materials that we were considering which definitely helped. We didn't have any major problems with him. Obviously, we chose somebody else. I would use them again in the future for a quote if I needed to.

When he finished deck, he asked if I needed other work. He supervised subs who painted outside and inside of house, installed 3 fans, fixed outside lighting, new gate, power washed patio. I liked all of the subs and was very happy with all the work.

Matt came to the house to give us an estimate for a deck. He was prompt, very knowledgable, had some great ideas. He emailed me a quote in writing that afternoon. He quoted both redwood and trex material for me. His quote was very fair. The project ended up being a much bigger deal than we'd anticipated (not the deck portion, but the whole house). We ended up hiring a general contractor so he had his people build the deck. I wish we would have used Matt. I'm sure he would have done a great job.
