"Hi there! I'm always glad to hear that my team is providing the exact service that is needed out there, minus any scare tactic nonsense that unfortunately is quite prevalent in the trades. However, with the alliance of a service like Angie's List, I truly believe the smarter companies will rise to the occasion of working towards being better and better and better as time goes on, which is win-win for everyone, including of course the consumer! Thank you so much for having had us out, glad we were able to bring you good news! At your service, Tom Pelletier, Owner The Foundation Works"
The Foundation Works stood out from the rest of the contractors. Tom (the owner) was willing to invest the time up front with me to give an honest assessment of my situation. I did not feel talked down to or pressured to do the repair. This building had a couple of unique aspects which I felt were important to handle carefully. In the end I felt that Tom?s assessment was the only one that addressed my concerns instead of trying to override them.
The work performed consisted of constructing a sister wall to the original perimeter wall, building new shear and cripple walls, and installation of a small cantilever (to support the rear of the building). The crew pinned, blocked, rebarred, and tied the whole foundation together to greatly extend the useful life of the building.
From estimate, to fieldwork, to completion of the repair, The Foundation Works (Tom, Myron, Cristian, and their crew) took special care to preserve this building in its? original state while doing the critical work necessary to extended the life of the existing foundation. They were professional, diligent, all english-speaking, polite, and focused. They cleaned up everyday and their work was completed quickly.
I wish all contractors would do business in this fashion and although The Foundation Works was not the lowest bid I received, I will use them again on another rehab I?m doing of a 1920?s property.
I encourage you to read the other reviews here and know that you are dealing with a professional, courteous, reliable company.
"Hello! Well that's great, we love to hear that, and the team had fun bringing the place together...no doubt that the place was ready for major surgery when we started! In that 95% of the 1000's of foundations we correct each year were built between 1880-1960, this IS what we do! Thank you again for having us out, as well as for taking the time to sing our praises, we are grateful for having been "put on your team", see you on the next one! Onward and Upward, Tom Pelletier, Owner The Foundation Works"

"Hi! Well that was a fun inspection for sure! You've certainly told the lesser tale here, you and your sweetheart have truly found a one-of-a-kind house there, in the literal sense of the term! Having inspected countless thousands of homes, I can't recall having ever seen one built extensively out of recycled telephone poles...and yet obviously built by a true craftsman who could be categorized as a legend among many of the mere mortals in the industry today! Enjoy the new place, it's charming, bohemian vibe should bring years of great vibe for you and yours to absorb and enjoy! All the best, Tom Pelletier, Owner The Foundation Works"

"Good Morning! Thank you again so much for having chosen The Foundation Works to take care of your foundation needs, we very much appreciate it! In terms of the city inspection process, I see by your file that the city did sign off on the work within two days of our having completed it and that my office e-mailed you the completed city approval. If for some reason it was not received, we would be more than happy to re-send it, put it in the mail, or even physically bring it to you, just let us know your preference. We want you to have the peace of mind associated with filing away the final paperwork documenting the project of course! At your service, Tom Pelletier, Owner The Foundation Works"
"Hello there! Well it certainly is nice to start a Sunday morning off by reading such nice comments about my team, thank you so much! I really appreciate that feedback and am equally grateful for the opportunity of having taken care of that "new-to-you" foundation! May you have many happy times in your new place, congratulations! Tom Pelletier, Owner The Foundation Works"
"Hi there! Thank you so much for taking the time to acknowledge us, I'm always glad to hear that everything was completed to one's satisfaction. As we constantly strive for perfection, I am grateful for your patience in having allowed us to have made the few corrections noted. Despite our best efforts, the fragility of so many things under a home can occasionally provide a "hiccup", such as a phone line, so thank you for your understanding on that. The project came together beautifully and with City blessing, it is now quite well prepared seismically! At your service, Tom Pelletier, Owner The Foundation Works"
"Hi there! Thank you so much for the kind words, we really appreciate that! Yes, your foundation is built like a fortress, so no need for us there! However, I'm glad we were there as that leaking water heater of yours could have gone at any time and I'm glad to have brought that to your attention prior to a flooded basement! All the best, Tom Pelletier, Owner The Foundation Works"
"Hello! Thank you so much, we may be in the foundation business but senior to that, we are in the business of bringing good news whenever possible! There is no shortage of actual work out here to do and we are very grateful to be very busy, so it is a nice addition to the day when we get to tell someone that they don't actually need our services! :) All the best, Tom Pelletier, Owner The Foundation Works"
"Well hello there, I am on the verge of blushing from your ever-so-kind review! Salt of the earth...? Wow, we are flattered and then some! On behalf of all of us here at The Foundation Works, thank you so much for taking the time to really communicate the experience you had, we never tire of hearing that we are setting a good example out there. I'm especially pleased when I hear that we showed up just in time to avert a potential disaster, as the one you described. If there is ever anything we can do to further assist, feel free of course to reach out! At your service, Tom Pelletier, Owner The Foundation Works"
The guys from Foundation Works crawled around our foundation, pinpointed the problems and came up with a very clear and reasonable estimate and solution. They explained worst case scenarios for the portions of the walls that they could not determine about the quality of the foundation at the time of the estimate. Luckily, those didn't come to pass, but it was nice to know the potential costs involved.
The actual work started very quickly because they had an opening from a cancelation. The guys doing the work showed up on time, were very polite and friendly with us. I wasn't supervising all of the work, but when we showed up they were always happy to show us their progress and explain the process.
I have a half basement, so it's pretty easy to see much of the work that was done, and from my non-expert perspective, it looks really good. It basically looks like the work they explained to me. My partner was a contractor and he confirms that the work looks clean and high quality. I'll update this after the next earthquake.
Foundation work seems really tough and it didn't seem like they cut any corners or rushed anything. They came back and cleaned up the mess completely and consistently checked in throughout the job to make sure everything was ok. It was quick, easy and painless for something so vital to a home.
"Hi there! Well thank you so much for the wonderful comments about our team here at The Foundation Works, we love to hear it! Also, thank you for choosing us from among the many choices you had, we appreciate the vote of confidence not only then, but also now that we've completed the work! Always at your service, Tom Pelletier, Owner The Foundation Works"
"Wow, great to hear from you, it's been almost two years since we were out there but I definitely recall that one! What an oddball solution of someone to have poured what amounted to a giant concrete anchor in the middle of your house! Your house is SO relieved to have it gone and replaced with the light-weight wood floor we put there in its stead! That was an especially rewarding project for us as I recall how worried you were and yet it turned out to be a relatively simple correction, so I'm glad we were able to bring you lots of peace of mind for not a lot of expense! :) At your service, Tom Pelletier, Owner The Foundation Works"
"Thank you so much for your kind words...I think I'm blushing! It's always great to be able to deliver good news, we certainly come across enough bad news out there so this balances it out nicely! Be sure to go after those few drainage issues around the rear of the garage in particular and that is the best thing you can do for your house right now- All the best, Tom Pelletier, Owner The Foundation Works"
First, Brad did a terrific job of assessing the foundation and retrofit problems that needed to be dealt with. His detailed description of what problems existed and what needed to be done made it easy for us to understand the full scope of the job.
The foreman, Myron, was completely professional and did a wonderful job of describing each and every step that was being taken during the repair and retrofit. This kept us constantly aware of where they were in the process. The crew of Christian, Renato, John, and Kyle were professional, hard-working, and very knowlegeable. They put a great deal of thought and effort into making sure our house was as level as it could possibly be. It had done a lot of settling since 1926, the year it was built. Further, past changes to the house done in a substandard manner had done quite a bit of damage to the foundation structure. Now the house is as solid as a rock and so close to level that we can't tell the difference.
We can't speak highly enough of the young men who did this job for us. They were prompt, cheerful, and completely absorbed by and interested in what they were doing. They genuinely seemed excited to climb into their coveralls and dive under our house.
We would use this company and crew again in a heartbeat. We would, and will, certainly recommend them.
"Well I must say, this is a very thorough description of our process, right down to the terms, we do love when a client engages in what we are doing and really comes to a greater understanding of what it is that is happening under there! Though Myron's team are a bunch of go-getters, I'm sure the enthusiasm that I glean from your words was pervading the work area as well, and adding to the overall vibe of the project as it unfolded! Thank you so much for the wonderful comments, we are so fortunate to to able to count Brad, Myron, and the whole team amongst our ranks! At your service, Tom Pelletier, Owner The Foundation Works"
"Hi there, well thank you for the kind words about our lead inspector, Brad, I will be sure to forward your kind words on to him as well! As for the inspection, I'm glad to hear that we were able to issue yet another "clean bill of health", thank you so much for having had us out to have a look! At your service, Tom Pelletier, Owner The Foundation Works"
We were so happy in fact that when we wanted to remodel the basement we asked Tom to recommend a contractor. That was a total disaster in every regard, which I won't even get into here. I will say that at the end of overcharging for a REALLY awful job, he further insulted us by trying to push scientology on us. ugh.
That was nearly 3 years ago. Since then the drywall has cracked more and more, and several doors won't close anymore. The house is definitely shifting and the "retrofit" was unnecessary and meant we didn't actually address the real problem! Recently we had plumbers come out and replace the sewer line. Trying to get to the root of the problem, we thought perhaps the cracked sewer line was making mud under the house and causing all the shifting -not the case. When they dug out in front of the house they found that the front wall of the house doesn't have a foundation footing!!! So the whole dang thing is leaning that way causing all kinds of issues. You'd think the "foundation experts" would have noticed that in their inspection, or maybe while they were going around nailing particle board to all the studs in the basement "fixing" our foundation. What a racket.
The real bummer is now that I know what's going on, I don't know who to call to fix it!
"Hello, Well sounds good, always good to be able to bring some good news, that is not always possible! Do be sure to follow the drainage advise, it's far and away the most relevant factor in how you can extend the useful life of your foundation system! All the best, Tom Pelletier, Owner The Foundation Works"
"Hello! Well it sounds like you are glad to be done with that particular escrow, I'm glad to hear that my team was the silver lining on that otherwise dark cloud! Thank you so much for having had us work on your new home, we are all very grateful for the opportunity to have remedied the few spots that needed it! Great success to you in the new place and of course let us know when you'd like the anchor bolting done as well, we'll be there! Tom Pelletier, Owner"
"Hi there! Please feel free to contact us if we can ever offer any further assistance, and thank you again for having put us on your team! At your service, Tom Pelletier, Owner The Foundation Works"
