I went to the Floor Center to investigate Marmoleum flooring, a brand of linoleum. William showed me both lino and vinyl flooring options. I scheduled an appt for him to come to the house to give an estimate. He came on time and he seemed very knowledgeable about all the work my old, tired floors would require. Per my request, he emailed me several estimates, each with a different option as far as flooring material was concerned. I accepted his bid and scheduled the work for about 2 weeks later when I had a week off from work. Marco and Jason arrived and set to work removing the old flooring in the kitchen, dining room, and laundry room. After the first day, it was usually just Marco who arrived to work. I want to say that Marco was absolutely amazing! He worked tirelessly and what impressed me besides his work ethic was that he was 100% committed to doing the job correctly and perfectly. I don't think there is anyone else as experienced in installing Marmoleum as Marco is. It is hard, hard work and he has my unending gratitude. Marco worked on the bathroom last, as it was our only bathroom and he wanted the bathroom to be out of commission for the least amount of time. Marco had to remove the toilet and vanity to work but he replaced the toilet with a new wax ring each evening before he left, so that we could use the toilet. Marco, and sometimes Jason, also installed new 5" high baseboards and shoes, to match the original baseboards in the rest of the house, built in 1923. Jason worked hard to make the moulding look good and he consulted with me as to how I wanted the moulding to wrap around the end of a wall. The only glitch was with the man who was handling the moulding (not Jason or Marco). I would say there is room for improvement because I was not satisfied with his job performance. He did not stain the toekicks for the kitchen cabinets dark enough to match the existing cabinet wood in the kitchen. I supplied the stain, a custom mix from Sherwin Williams, but if you've worked with stain, you know you can make the color darker or lighter depending on how long you leave the stain on before wiping it off, and how light or hard pressure you apply. This man would come by for a little bit of time then disappear. I took it upon myself to add a second coat of stain to the toe kick boards in the evening to darken them, so that they would be ready for installation the next day. In addition, when he first arrived to stain and paint the baseboard pieces of wood, he arrived at 4:30 in the afternoon, when it became dark at 5:00 pm. We had no outside lighting in the driveway where he worked, so I really don't know if he was able to do a decent job in the dark. I also supplied the custom mix of semi-gloss paint for the baseboard and shoes. For some reason, when the moulding guy painted them, they came out looking satin instead of semi-gloss. One of the other workers pointed this out to me first. He noticed it unfortunately after the boards had already been installed! Since I had already painted the trim in my house a few weeks earlier with the semi-gloss, I wanted the new baseboards and shoes to match the trim in sheen. So, again I took it upon myself to repaint the baseboards and shoes in 3 rooms in the evening. I hardly ever saw the moulding guy and when he was here, he never stayed very long and he really didn't consult with me even though I was at home all day. If I could give him 2 areas to improve upon, it would be 1) to introduce himself to the homeowner rather than just knocking on the door and walking in without telling the homeowner who he was or where he was from, and 2) consult with the homeowner both before and after he stains and paints the moulding. He needs to confirm that the homeowner is satisfied with the staining and painting jobs and to do this before the moulding is installed. He was also supposed to supply Marco with the wax rings for the toilet, and he dropped the ball on that one. At 6:00 in the evening, when it became apparent we had no new wax rings to re-install our only toilet, Jason had to run over to Home Depot to buy the wax rings that the moulding guy was supposed to have brought over earlier. I am only going into so much detail because I think it's unfair that Marco worked like a dog for two weeks and then he also had to pick up the slack for this guy. All in all, the Floor Center did an amazing job and I am thrilled beyond belief to have excellent floors for the first time in 34 years in this house.

I was under a deadline to have new floors installed before moving into my condo and The Floor Center was able to do the work (at a fair price) in my time constraints. Robert went the extra mile by helping research the floor underlayment I was choosing to make sure it would have the best possible chance of passing the HOA-mandated floor sound test upon installation (which it did!) They also took special care in making sure to abide by the HOA's strict contractor guidelines. The lead contractor, Aaron, was friendly, polite, and knowledgable. I am very pleased with the finished product and recommend The Floor Center!

Perfectly. They did better than meeting competitor's pricing, set up an appointment with VERY little delay built in, did a completely professional job, cleaned up properly. They were VERY nice people, easy to talk to. We have now had that floor for almost a year, and have had NO problems.

We were very pleased with the response, service and carpeting we had installed by The Floor Center. After giving Robert information regarding our color preferences by phone, he brought several carpet samples for us to see. When our choice turned out to be more than we budgeted, Robert suggested an alternative carpet which was not only better budget-wise, but the perfect color. Installers Ray and Ralph arrived promptly, were friendly, courteous and especially helpful replacing furniture. The installation itself appears to be perfect. We highly recommend The Floor Center.

Response from The Floor Center
Hi [member name removed], I'm sorry i was not there for you. I did advise William are other salesman your scheduled appointment at the shop and he knew all the details of your job and recommended some samples to show you. I had a job i needed to help get finished to keep on time for the completion date. William has 25yrs of experience and though it would be ok for him to show you samples. My fault for not calling ahead and letting you know the situation. I am regretful that we could not do job. I honestly didn't think it would have been an issue with all the experience that William has in the flooring industry. I guess me not being there upset you to the point you didn't want to give him a chance. Again i am sorry i wasn't there for you. Thanks Robert

Robert and William offer great customer service. They are knowledgable about flooring and the installation process. They spent time answering our questions. The installers were meticulous and the floors look great. All the workers were punctual and neat. We felt the price was fair considering the terrific customer service and the quality product and work. Highly recommended.

I had a bid from Royal Oak to finish the floor and we agreed to have it done by them. When they left we were told they would be able to do it the following day which was great because we were going to re-carpet the house and wanted the floor done first because of the sanding. The following day came and no one showed up, so I called and they told me it wouldn't be till next week. This of course was unacceptable. I then called Carpet One because we were working with William to have our carpet replaced. I asked him if they did hardwood floor finishing and he said "yes". At that moment in time I knew my problem would be resolved. I asked him when he would be able to come and do the work he called his floor crew and called me back 10 minutes later and told me Tuesday. 8:30AM, It would have been Monday but that was the labor day holiday. Tuesday Armando and his crew arrived at 8:30AM, sharp. He told what they are going to do and about what time they would be finished. The kitchen was sealed off entirely to prevent dust from going throughout the house. The floor got sanded beautifully to show some of the wood grain that I never knew was there. They vacuumed the floor to remove all the remaining dust and finished by putting on a primer coat. All this was done in the time frame that Armando told me it would be done in, by noon. His crew is very professional and they knew what had to be done and did it. The following day Armando came to do the final two coats to finish the job. He was here on time as he said he would be. He finished the floor with a final coat of semi-gloss finish. After the floor dried it really was not the shiny finish we expected. I called William (The Floor Center) the next day and told him. He called Armando, however Armando did not have any glossy finish so he went on a mission to find some glossy finish. Armando found the finish, came back the next day and finished the job. The floor looks beautiful, both William and Armando bent over backwards to see that we were satisfied. I would recommend The Floor Center without reservation. They deliver on what they promise, which incidentally was done at half the price of my original quote.

When we visited the stored, Daniel Gooding helped us select a carpet and color that would work well for a rental unit, steering us clear of carpets that might not hold up well. He was efficient and well informed. We ordered the carpet and set an installation date. The crew showed up on time and did an excellent job, hauling away all their remnants as well as the old carpet. The whole process was quick and flawless. We will definitely use Flooring 101, and especially Daniel, in the future!

Much to my surprise, the work was done at the estimated cost and within the estimated time. The installers, Jason and David, were great. To stay on schedule, they even worked late a couple of days. In fact, one of those days was David's birthday. After they had already put in a full day, we told them to go home, but they insisted on working 2 more hours to stay on schedule. When a few minor fixes needed to be done, there was no hemming and hawing...they just fixed it. By the way, the finished product looked great! We've already recommended this company to our neighbors and would recommend them to anyone who asked.

William was the owner/salesperson at the front end and was very helpful and easy to work with on assessing what materials would best work for our needs and budget. He loaned me a number of tile samples to take home to help decide on style and color. Two different techs came over to install the two jobs - Marco did the kitchen flooring and was terrific. After I thought I had decided the pattern, he then did a dry-fit lay-out and asked me again if I was sure it was what I wanted -- I didn't like the look and agreed with him to change it up. Again, he did a very meticulous job. When I called a few days later to say it appeared that moving the refrig back into place caused marks or dents, William immediately responded that they would remove the tiles that appeared damaged. He first sent someone over to have a look and he was able to carefully rub the marks out so no additional work was needed. Joel was the hardwood repairman and he too did a terrific job and was extremely meticulous and professional. The wood in the repair did not match exactly but this was something both William and Joel warned me about before the job was started - so no surprise. I got some lower quotes for this job but am very happy I went with The Floor Center and their subsequent quality service. I recommended them to my contractor and he was impressed with the job at our house enough so that he recommended that another of his clients contact The Floor Center to bid for their job.

Robert was friendly, fair, and well-priced for this project. The vinyl we picked was no longer being made, but he found and ordered some of the last from his supplier to do our small kitchen and bath. It all went extremely well and we were impressed with the care taken by the installer in prepping the old linoleum (half a century old, maybe?) in terms of cutting away old seams that were coming up, filling a hole from an old stovepipe, and taking the time necessary to spread the skim coat evenly. Since there was a grid pattern and we were using the leftover of the kitchen linoleum to do the bathroom, the cutting was critical, and we were very happy with how it all turned out. It is amazing how updating the flooring can transform a kitchen and bath! Thank you--good job.

Floor Center did an excellent job - William was great to work with and very accommodating. I couldn't make up my mind on the flooring color, so he let me hang onto the samples for a week to decide. He also explained my underlayment choices - I went with a much higher thicker grade because I wanted to reduce the "clicky" sounds you get with typical laminate installations. They spent a lot of time trying to get our uneven subfloor more flat before the installation. There were several rooms with cracks in the concrete and they patched things up. Robert and his crew went the extra mile on the moulding, coping the ends and corners very nicely. We had curved drywall caps at the doorways, and the moulding was cut so that it went around the curves nicely - great attention to detail. They could have taken the quick route and done a sloppier job, but instead, they took the extra time to make sure the ends came out nicely. Once the flooring was finished, we noticed a couple of spots where the flooring was bowing/"bouncy". Robert came right out to check it out and pulled out the flooring in those spots and re-installed after fixing the flooring below to reduce the bounciness of the floor - excellent customer service! Robert had found a few spots that he wasn't happy with (gaps in the transitions and flooring), so he even pointed them out and came out to fix those as well! We still needed to finish the tile in the bathroom, so they said just to call them when that was done and they would come out and finish installing the transition to the tile as well. We haven't done the flooring in the bathroom yet, but I trust that they will follow through. They always came on time (well, even early), and William was available by email after hours. The only negative that I can think of is that although where ever they installed the flooring in the house was cleaned up nicely, the outside courtyard where they cut the pieces was left a bit messy with a lot of saw dust. However, that wasn't really bad enough to ding them on my ratings. It did take them a bit longer to do the install since they had a smaller crew (2 weeks, but there was a lot of floor), but the attention to detail was terrific!

William was good to work with; He was patient (we had multiple samples back-n-forth to our house) and willing to help. When we found a carpet product that we liked elsewhere, he made sure to find the same product. His quote for the job wasn't the least expensive we received, but we went with them anyway, because he did the best job of meeting our needs. We set the start date for approximately 10 days out, and when the day came, his demolition team (led by Ray) showed up on time, ready to go. we'd packed up the small stuff, but other than that, they moved all the furniture. They were able to get the tile and carpet out in about 3 days (exactly what they'd said it would take) and they began work on the hardwood. The wood installer, Greg, is a craftsman. It was clear that he takes a great deal of pride in what he does, and it showed. The work is first rate, and small details (like matching moulding colors to other wood in our house) weren't missed. Ray also led the carpet installation and he too clearly took a great deal of pride in what he was doing. It wasn't the easiest carpet install (stairs, strange hallway shapes and berber carpet that can't be cut diagonally), but it went smoothly and it looks great. Both Ray and Greg were prompt, friendly and trustworthy. They worked hard, and I'm sure not everything went as planned along the way, but we heard no complaints. Truly professional.

The situation with my house changed and I didn't have any of the flooring work done. However, I was very pleased with William's work, the estimate he provided, his recommendations regarding the carpeting and tile, and his advice regarding use of ceramic vs porcelain tiles. He was always very responsive.
Description of Work: William provided an estimate for installing new laminate wood floors downstairs, replacing carpeting upstairs, and replacing vinyl in the kitchen and bathrooms with tile. He spent more than an hour in his store helping me select the laminate, and came to the house to take measurements, and help me select the carpet and tile for the kitchen. He also would have installed some of the tile I purchased at a large home improvement store, and offered to pick it up when the order came in.

Floor Center did a timely estimate for both areas and provided helpful advice in choosing materials. They were able to start a few days early to accommodate our scheduling needs and spent 8 days on the job. Greg and his crew did a wonderful job on the installation - great craftsmanship and attention to detail. Removing the old bumpy floor and subfloor without damaging the cabinets was tricky, but they did a terrific job and the resulting new subfloor was perfectly level and true. The new floor tile was installed with great care and looks flawless. The new stair treads were meticulously sanded and finished - again, the installation was perfect. The whole job exceeded our expectations. Everyone we dealt with was courteous, friendly and knowledgable, and the job site was cleaned up at the end of every day. This is my second great experience with Floor Center and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them highly.

This was a pleasant experience from the get-go. There is a real small business aura about the firm. Everyone involved was very friendly and accommodating.
Description of Work: We had a situation involving sparks leaping out of the fireplace onto our carpet, burning holes into an irregularly shaped section of carpet about 2 sq.ft in total. We called the Floor Center based on their Angie's List ranking. They sent out a worker and he took some carpet out of an upstair's closet and repaired the area to our satisfaction. He was very careful to match the nape and was very thorough.

Due diligence requires that we receive multiple estimates on this job. William came out promptly, took various measurements, mapped out the premises and submitted a bid on the job for each of several carpet swatches we picked out previously from their nice selection. His was among five different carpet stores submitting bids. His was the lowest overall and therefore won the job. All five of the installers invited to bid on the job were listed on Angie's List by the way. Once we had chosen the carpet to be installed, we arranged with William to schedule the installation. To simplify and facilitate the job, he suggested a conventional work week begiining on Monday nad finishing up either Friday or Saturday depending on each day's progress.. His crew, headed by Ray, showed up on time on a Monday morning and completed 95% of the work by Friday afternoon. Unfortunately the supplier screwed up on the order and they ran our of carpet. A week later it came in and they finished the work. They were punctual, efficient, cooperative polite and paid attention to detail. What a crew! Now, I have been a Condo Board member for many years and it is mostly a non-paying thankless task. We have our share of negative personalities and I am used to hearing complaints about everything imaginable and then some. So, I fully expected to hear some criitical comments about the carpet. Even if I did, I would shrug it off knowing that we had a much better looking building than before. To my surprise and delight, I have heard mostly silence (that's good!). Some residents have even complimented the job. To say I am pleased would be a big understatement.

The every step of the process was executed on time and as promised. They even adapted their work plan to accommodate a mid-job decision to install a new dish washer. The crew was friendly and cleaned up nicely. We plan to use them again.
Description of Work: The Floor Center installed a ceramic tile floor in the kitchen and laminate flooring in a bedroom. The kitchen installation required repair of portions of the subfloor.

We would recommend it it to people if price isn't a major factor.
Description of Work: Hardwood sales, carpet sales and installation. People were really quick - the only thing is the price isn't the best. It's not extremely expensive but it isn't inexpensive. Nice mom & pop shop.
