I don’t write many reviews, but I had to give this company its due. I have used movers several times, and even during a cross-country move. I have never had a particularly bad or good experience moving before, until I used Real RocknRoll movers. What a great experience! I used their website to get an advanced quote. Based on the information I provided they recommended a crew and truck size, and they provided the upfront costs. We called them with questions and dealt with Billy. He was very nice and did not pressure us. Once we decided to go with them, they sent me their terms online, which were straightforward and easy to understand, and we booked the move date. The day before the move, Billy called me to check in. He asked if anything had changed, or if I planned to take more stuff. I told them I had a few more boxes then I thought, and they said no worries because they had a bigger truck available at no extra cost. On the move day, they arrived a little early. I had a four person crew and everyone was friendly, supportive, and energetic. They did a walk through to understand what was being moved and then they got right to work. The thing I really liked about these guys was they hustled and had a good time doing it. It was fun to watch because they motivated each other and had a real comradery. When I have moved in the past, I usually help, and once I had to lead. With these guys, they were so on top of everything, that I felt I could just sit back and relax. They got everything out of the townhouse and into the moving truck around 2.5 hours. After that, they found a spot for lunch next to the storage facility, and told me they would let me know when they were finishing up and heading over. They did not charge me for the lunch break time, and they communicated well with me the whole time. When we got to the storage unit, they motivated each other by guessing how fast they could unload the truck. They challenged each other and unloaded the truck into a storage unit with barely enough room for everything in 40 minutes while being careful with my stuff. By doing the work in record time, I was only charged the minimum amount (4 hours). They made the experience so pleasant, I am considering using these guys again when I move out of the storage unit and into my new home. I am even going to try to get the same crew. Plus, the cost was great.

Smooth and easy-breezy! The entire process with Real Rock n’ Roll Movers was fantastic. From the online fillout form through move day, everything went flawlessly. Our home straddled a 3-way intersection on a tight narrow street, that goes straight up a hill. I had to play parking attendant with all other contractors, but not so with Rock n’ Roll! These guys are extremely professional and know the funky neighborhoods well. Our move included a lot of delicate antiques. Every item made it safe and sound. The crew was knowledgeable, considerate and patient. Highly recommend this business in the strongest terms possible. Do yourself a favor and use Real Rock and Roll Movers!

We moved from a 2-bedroom apartment to a house. The truck (which they said was their largest) was not large enough to make it in one trip, so we had to make a second trip at a significant extra cost. It took from early morning until about midnight. Our furniture was extremely scraped and beaten up. I felt that the limited truck size should have been disclosed up front, so we would have been aware of the possibility of 2 trips. I would not recommend.

I love these guys! We've moved 3 times with Real RocknRoll Movers and each time the team was always polite, punctual, careful and friendly. We did a lot of prep work up front, so they mostly just had to move furniture, boxes and some large bulky items. That said, they were super appreciative of that up front work and executed the moves in under 3 hours each time. This includes moving across LA with a truck full of furniture. We're hoping not to have to move any time soon, but if we do, these are the guys we want helping us.

They showed up exactly on time and got right to work. Lifted the media cabinet out of my car, stood it up, and removed the box and all the packing material, which they cleaned up and put in the trash. Carried the cabinet into the house, put felt pads on all the feet then placed it carefully on our new wood floor. Then they lifted up our upright piano (also very heavy) and put floor protectors under all 4 wheels. Job was done promptly, carefully, and very professionally. We will DEFINITELY call them again when we need something moved! Thanks for a job well done!

Scott, Waldemar, and Daniel (aka "Coco") showed up at my apartment right on time and got right to work. First thing they did was just check out everything I had to move and made a plan. First, they built a huge, tightly-packed wall of boxes in the front of the truck and effectively protected the contents of everything because it was packed so tightly. Then they wrapped up the furniture in cellophane, disassembled the bed and desk and loaded all that on too. The bed proved to be problematic, but they kept at the problem until it was solved. They had the entire contents of my apartment loaded on the truck within three hours. My old apartment was on the ground floor and my new place was up a flight of stairs, so they definitely were earning their money on the back end (it was a hot day) as they carried everything up. The staircase had a hairpin turn halfway up so it took some skill and negotiating getting the larger furniture items up the staircase. But they were always careful and there was not a scratch to anything they moved or anything in the new house. E-mail communications from the office leading up to the move were always clear and prompt. They have a very detailed questionnaire about what's being moved to help them know what size truck and crew to bring. fyi They accept credit card payments for the move, but if you plan to tip the movers (which you certainly should -- they work sooo hard), the tip can't be added to the credit card. So have cash on hand for that.
Description of Work: They loaded up boxes and furniture from my 2 bedroom apartment into their truck, drove it to my new neighborhood (about five miles away), and unloaded everything up a flight of stairs in 5.5 hours.

I used REAL RocknRoll MOVERS for my move last weekend. I shopped around, and found that their prices were decent and that they had good reviews. Each time I sent an email inquiry, they responded promptly and answered all my questions. We communicated mostly via email, which was very helpful. A lot of the companies I researched would only communicate over the phone, and between work and packing, I felt that playing phone tag was a waste of my time. Two days prior to my move date, REAL RocknRoll MOVERS emailed and asked me for a final inventory list so that they could be sure that they had the right size truck and could give me a better time estimate. My move was scheduled for 3pm on a Sunday, but they called the day prior to find out if I would be open to switching to 10am. I was very happy to make that switch. They called me shortly before 10am and apologzied because they were going to be a bit late due to the fact that one of their guys was sick. They arrived shortly after with a replacement and began to load up. They were extremely diligent in wrapping every inch of my furniture and in unloading it on the other end. They took about as much time as I expected, given the amount of stuff I had (including dis/re-assembling of furniture). I was happy that the end price was a bit lower than I estimated. The thing I liked most was the great communication, from the time of the estimate, all the way through to the time of payment. The guys even helped with a few things that I had not originally requested. They helped me move some items to the curb, load a heavy item into my car, and moved some other things to the garage. They were professional and courteous but were also fun to joke around and chat with. I have no negative comments about this move. I was very happy with my choice in movers, and I have already recommended them to a friend who is moving soon. Great job guys!

Very good. The guys were on time and very curteous. They worked very hard to get the job done on time - its was over 100 degree on moving day but that didnt seem to slow them down. They were also flexible and were happy to accommodate an additional trip and pickup from a second location that I needed.

I scheduled the move about four days in advance through the website. They responded quickly and all of their e-mail communications were clear. They called a day before to confirm. The movers, Josh and Chris, showed up about ten minutes early and handled everything well. They communicated well with each other and both seemed experienced. They handled the larger items well over several sets of staircases. They used a 16-foot truck - not the newest truck on the road, but it was the right size for the job. We got lucky with parking at the new place, showing up about five minutes after the street cleaning no-parking period was over. They worked quickly and finished the job in just under the three hour minimum. It was a pretty straightforward move but I was impressed with how it all came together and went very smoothly. They did exactly what I needed done at a good price.

Good communication prior to the move. Confirmed time and specifics prior to the moving date. Ashley and Travis were delightful and very quick and efficient. We have done this move before for twice the price. They are smart, in shape and not lazy. The move was as outlined both time and price. Nothing broken or damaged. Would definitely use them again in a heartbeat.

We chose these guys because we have musician friends, their ratings were solid, and their website specified 16-foot trucks. Unfortunately the job started off on the wrong foot thanks to a huge misunderstanding about the truck. Their original website listed only 16' trucks. I specified that our street was really small, but their trucks (i.e. the 16' truck) would fit. In one of their response emails, they suggested a 24' box truck... I missed that note, which ultimately cost us two hours and a new truck rental. (They've since clarified the description of their trucks on their website.) Another misunderstanding made it worse: My husband said, "I don't care if we have to make two trips - we need the smaller truck." That was apparently interpreted as us WANTING two trips, so the truck wasn't packed as well as it could've been. Of the four guys, three of them were great... very sweet and hard-working. They never took a break. The fourth was a bit surly; he snapped at my husband at one point, and left cigarette butts and empty bottles all over our neighbor's front area. In REAL's defense, they've updated the website's description of their trucks so this kind of misunderstanding won't happen again. They also called me after I posted my first version of this review to apologize for the fourth guy, ask some follow-up questions and offer a partial refund. I didn't take them up on the refund, but I have revised the review in their favor. I appreciated the responsiveness, and we do genuinely like their guys and what they're doing for musicians. Should you hire them? Sure. Just be sure (as you should with any moving company) to be VERY specific about what you need and read everything they send you. Also, don't move with me. I have a terrible moving karma. If something can go wrong with my moves, it will.

The email correspondence with Colin to set up the move went smoothly. My initial request was on 10/16 and we had details confirmed by 10/19. However, the move itself did not go as well I expected. The first sign it would not be a smooth day was that one of the 2 movers they sent over was obviously inexperienced. The other mover had to coach him throughout the process on how to effectively stack boxes and furniture during the whole loading/unloading process. There were a few times when the guys would partially pack up a load then have to rearrange/repack the load to make things fit. Movers I've used for prior moves seemed to be expert Tetris players who knew intuitively the best ways to arrange my items to optimize the loads - these guys were not so expert. The second sign was that the equipment they brought was not as sturdy or "industrial" as I've seen other movers use (a hand truck they brought was similar to one I'd bought previously at Home Depot for $50) and they also didn't have basic items I've seen all other movers use - such as straps to keep boxes together. The movers had a very laid back attitude the entire move, chatting with me and each other, although I tried to move them along. I am used to movers working very diligently and efficiently - my prior move with almost the identical amount of stuff to move - took 2 hours to load & unload whereas this move took 4 hours (I am not counting travel time since the distances were different). Even when factoring in that my new building had a slower elevator, it shouldn't have taken twice the amount of time. The building manager at my new building offered a tip to help the move go faster based on what he'd seen work in previous moves - namely to fully unload the truck into a staging area inside the building, then to load the elevators - but the movers shot that idea down saying they preferred to unload the truck a bit at a time, on each trip. Based on the smell of smoke, I suspect they took at least one cigarette break as they were unloading at the new apartment. I didn't have much furniture, so rather than have the slow-moving guys set anything up, I just had them stack everything along a couple walls and sent them on their way. Then my irritation REALLY started once I started moving the boxes around myself and unpacking them. My boxes were FILTHY, covered in dirt/soot. I had to wipe down each box before I could unpack them. I also found that they nicked a lot of my furniture in places that were very visible - based on the location of the nicks and cracks, the movers must not have taken any precaution to avoid running into doorways. My furniture is not expensive at all, so I didn't invest in furniture covers - especially since the movers I've used previously had never damaged anything. However, every other mover I've used must have been MUCH more careful than those from Real Rock n' Roll Movers. The irritations have continued over the months as I continued settling in and moving things around. For example, it was after moving a floor lamp a couple times that I realized the movers must have dropped the lamp at some point since the stone at the bottom of the base was cracked. The stone had held up ok the first time I moved the lamp - I saw some debris around the lamp and didn't think much of it, thinking it might have been debris from the move and/or something tracked in on shoes, but the 2nd time I moved it there was a LOT more debris and when I lifted the base, I saw that the stone was cracked. It's one thing to drop an item - I know accidents happen and would have understood, but it's a whole other matter to not even mention it. I suspect my movers were not the ones who worked on other moves reviewed on Angie's List - especially the newbie - so I'd highly recommend checking with the company about the experience level of the specific movers who'll be working on your move. I don't mind paying more for a quality experience (which this wasn't), but I am not as glad to be paying for someone to be learning on the job on my dime. I'd also suggest asking that the truck be cleaned prior to your move + that adequate equipment be provided to the movers. At the end of the day, I paid a lot more and got a lot less than I expected.

These guys are great. They work hard and they work fast. They loaded a 2-bedroom apartment into their truck and unloaded it at our new home. We had everything boxed and ready to go before they arrived. At the new place they unloaded carefully and moved everything into the appropriate room. If you're moving a 5-bedroom house to an out-of-state location, these probably aren't your guys. But small to medium moves in the Los Angeles region - I would absolutely recommend them. They've got great stories, and if you're nice - they might invite you to their next gig.

Don't let the Rock 'n' Roll scare you! These guys were on time, all pro and got the job done for us, and came in UNDER the estimated price. They came as a recommendation from a friend after a recent move and he raved about them. Scott, the owner, set everything up prior to the move, even checking in with me the morning of the move to provide helpful info and ask/answer questions to make sure we were good to go. The guys on the day of showed up on time and were awesome. Great energy. They were efficient and intelligent about how to pack things. Seriously, they must have been Tetris champions back in the day. We would highly recommend them for your next move. They were very affordable, effective, and a pleasure to work with.
