Description of Work: Modern Roofing was a subcontractor under Home Depot and they replaced our aging roof. Everything was done to our satisfaction and within the estimated cost. Friendly and professional personnel who kept the dirt/mess to a minimum. When they finished the roof, they made sure that any collateral damage was taken care of as well. Thorough cleanup around entire outside of our home was done before they left for the last time. I would hire them again.

Description of Work: Modern Roofing did a great job. They put on a new roof. They explained my options for roofing and didn't hesitate to do things as I wanted even though it was a bit more complicated. Price was significantly less than all other quotes. The price for wood and gutter repair as needed was less than originally indicated on Angie's List. I asked for a couple of minor things like cutting of an old exhaust pipe, and they didn't charge me extra. They worked with my solar installer to make sure all the solar stands were put in and flashed properly during the roofing process. The only area where they fell below an A was in responsiveness. When I first contacted them, they told me to expect a call within a day, but nobody called. When I reached out again, I also had trouble getting a call back. After I was on the schedule, though, the responsiveness and customer service was excellent. There was a small amount of ceiling damage inside due to work on the flat roof just above. They IMMEDIATELY discounted my invoice to pay a handyman to fix it (I already had the handyman coming to the house for another item so that was easiest.) I definitely recommend Modern Roofing.

Description of Work: They performed no work, just gave me an estimate which would have been free anyway. Seemed to be in a rush to get it done and over with. They took pictures of what needed repair, said they would send them to me, which they never did. They did send me a very poorly written, confusing estimate.

Description of Work: We needed to rebuild the frame and replace the roof for a circa 1920 free-standing garage. Modern Roofing sub-contracted the framing to an associate. It took quite a bit of effort to encourage both MR and their sub contractor to get going and to finish this project. We had the impression that they were so busy, and this job so small and unimportant that we should be grateful to them for fitting us in. The approach was to offer the cheapest solution, which wasn't necessarily what was requested. This was a point of disconnect throughout, where the goal seemed to be to find a cheap and quick way of doing things on their end, where on mine, I simply wanted a rationale and itemized cost breakdown for the proposed work. I had to state several times that cost wasn't the sole dictator of the job, and that I was willing to pay more for a worthwhile option. |The actual roof was very well done, when finally installed. The problem was the sub-contractor who was MIA while his workers did whatever. The framing was done extremely well in some parts, although it took forever to get them to finish. The plastering was done very badly and cracked in places. Instead of continually arguing with the sub-contractor, we finished it ourselves. The sub-contractor complained that our house, located in Eagle Rock, was too far from his San Fernando Valley location, and therefore prevented him from being able to 'keep coming out all the time', let alone supervise any work done. Years ago I had a great experience with Modern Roofing. Not this time. They had indifferent customer service and no interest in this job. I understand if a company feels that a garage is not a large enough undertaking for their business model. However, I would expect them to decline the job, rather than accept, charge market rates, and subject a formerly loyal client to a sub-standard experience, even if a large part of the negative experience was due to their sub-contractor.

The materials recommended were of excellent quality and the warranties for the roofing products and the workmanship provide peace of mind. Description of Work: Complete reroof of single family residence. Sales manager 'Mike' was very easy to communicate with and a nice guy. The work was done on time and the area around the house was cleaned up. Can't wait for the next rain to test it out.

Description of Work: I purchased a Big Deal for roof maintenance. They told me there was no maintenance that was needed to be done on the roof, so they advised me to get a refund for the Deal; they then installed a downspout.

Description of Work: During an early season rain storm, we found our roof leaked in the master bedroom. Using Angie's List, I called several roofers. The only one who had time to see me in the next two months was Modern Roofing. They required an up front fee beforehand in order to put up a tarp to tide me over before they could do any actual repairs and, since they were my only option, I relented. When they came to install the tarp, one of their roofers said that upon inspection, there were only a few tiles loose and showed me photos that he'd take from his cell phone to prove it. He said they could do the work right then, would inspect for any other loose tiles and secure them and, best of all, I didn't need any further repairs so the tarp would be unnecessary! Since I would have never climbed on the roof, they could have told me anything and I would have had to take their word for it. They were very honest and now I will use them for any repairs I may need in the future!
