M&M Custom Flooring

Long overdue review... I had this company come over to my condo in downtown LA for an estimate to replace my laminate flooring that was creaking. Dan McDonald came and took the time to assess the situation. He actually taught me a lot about flooring during his visit and was honest enough to decline the job because although he could fix the problem, it would probably be a waste of my money with minimal benefit for me. It's rare these days that a contractor would provide an honest assessment rather than trying to fool people into paying for more than they need. And to top it off, the estimate was completely free (he wouldn't even accept a tip, and I tried!).

Mike was fantastic. He met with us several times at the store to help us choose the wood we wanted, and was very patient with our indecisiveness. He had answered our numerous questions and let us borrow samples to test at the house. Once we had chosen, he worked with us (and the manufacturer of the floor we picked) to make sure we had the best pricing we found anywhere. The work is great. Our house is on a hill and shifting has resulted in crooked floors and non-square corners. Mike was able to level our very crooked floors, and was great at problem solving to make everything look as level as possible, while still being conscious of our budget. The floors look beautiful. The stairs in particular look great - people (people who have no other interest in floors) actually comment on them. Several months after the floors were finished, we noticed a few minor nicks and scratches in one area. They were probably the result of other work we were having done in the house, and definitely were not caused by M&M. Nevertheless, Mike stopped by and tried fixing them with some stain, to make sure that it wasn't necessary to switch out the boards. We also noticed when he was here that he has what seemed (to us) like a great relationship with his crew - they all worked together easily and well, and everyone was knowledgeable and friendly. They left the place cleaner than they found it. Just A+: great guy/crew, doing great work.

Mike and his crew were outstanding. We were able to schedule the work to be done to fit our schedule. Armando and the crew arrived promptly, the work area was sealed off from the rest of the house, and the crew got to work. The crew was very careful with the equipment and cleaned up each day after the work was completed. Mike installed the floor trim and the crown moulding and did an excellent job. Mike was also very responsive to our questions and concerns during the refinishing process. The floor looks beautiful! True craftmanship and professionalism.

I called and informed the receptionist of my problem. She referred me to Dan McDonald and he was kind enough to make arrangements to come visit my home the same day with no charge. He said that he would be in the neighborhood on another job and if I was available later that afternoon, he could stop by and take a look at the damage. Dan would call me to keep me updated on his schedule and arrived when he said he would. Dan gave me two options on repairs, expensive and less expensive. He advised that I try the less expensive option first and if it doesn't work, he wouldn't charge me and we would discuss the more expensive route. Dan informed me that he would be in the neighborhood on another job in two days and if I was avaialbe, he could come by after his other project and repair the floor. If I wasn't avaialbe, we could schedule for the following week. Dan arrived a little early on the day of his appointment. He was very professional and was able to repair the floor with the less expensive option. I would definitely recommend Dan and would be interested in having Dan work with me on flooring again.

We contacted M&M Custom Flooring several months ago after consulting Angie's List for flooring contractors. We talked with Daniel, one of the owners of M&M, and we felt so comfortable with him and his knowledge of flooring, that we did not get any other bids. We went into the store soon after talking with Daniel and he met us there to show us our choices in flooring and to answer our questions. He really knows his craft and was able to give us information about all types of flooring as well as his experience with floor options regarding what could be installed in our house (we had some old wooden subfloors, some cement subfloors and some old hardwood floors) . It took us quite a long time to choose the new flooring, but Daniel and Casey (the young woman who works at the storefront) were very patient and encouraged us to take our time to find the flooring that we liked best. The new flooring was installed last week and everything looks great! We decided on vinyl flooring for the 2 baths, and carpet to replace all of the old carpet. The installers did a very nice job, very professionally installed. The vinyl flooring needed to be cleaned with a mild soapy solution after installation, which was a bit surprising, but it is so easy to clean that it was not a problem. We are very happy with our floors and would definitely take any future flooring needs to M&M Custom Flooring. They just made it so easy.

My husband and I just love our refinished floors. Mike and his team are excellent at assisting the client and a very knowledge about the different types of wood and how to test repair, sand and stain them. The team is also quick, efficient and super clean. I would recommend M&M Flooring in a heartbeat.

Provided 3 different quotes but ignored my requests. Quote Request: - Laminate Flooring in Dining Room, Hall and Loft. - Carpet everywhere else. - Additional cost of adding baseboards. Quote Response: Quote 1: Laminate everywhere w/ baseboards Quote 2: Laminate everywhere minus stairs w/ baseboards Quote 3. Laminate everywhere minus stairs w/o baseboards At the end, they didn't even try to help but just ignored us. They do not pay attention to detail when it comes down to customer service so what can I expect when they get down to business? Projects big or small, they should treat each customer with respect. I was clearly not important to this company.

We bought a new house and were in escrow during the time we had hired Daniel and his crew to redo our floors. We had a few bumps along the way with our escrow process and had to reschedule Daniel and his crew 3 times. They were very understanding and willing to work with us. From the second I met Daniel I felt comfortable that we would be taken care of. Daniel and his crew did an outstanding job. Our floors look amazing. He had incredible patience with as we visited his store multiple times to pick out the floor we wanted and changed our base. If you're thinking of doing any type of floor work, look no further, These guys are the best.

Mike was wonderful to work with. He was very professional but also very personable. He explained everything clearly. Armando, the head man on the job for the week, was equally wonderful, going out of his way to make sure the job was done really well and with as little hassle to me as possible. There was a leak under the old floor, so the job took longer than expected, to dry out the under flooring. The installers did a great job and the floor looks beautiful. They were willing to come and finish the job on a Sunday, so we could have a party that was planned for the next day.

Beautiful work. Truly remarkable attention to detail (they scored the wood to match up perfectly with tile in the bathroom and hallway which required the workers to carry each piece up and down the stairs multiple times to shave off bits and pieces so the flooring would line up perfectly!). Wonderfully professional and accommodating throughout the process which included working with our contractor to install floor outlets. We used M&M about a year and a half ago as well to replace flooring in the kitchen of a rental unit and they were fantastic then too. We had Daniel for the flooring in the rental and Mike for the hardwood in our home and both guys were fantastic all the way through - from the initial call, to helping us select the right product, to making sure the installation was going smoothly, to following up after to make sure we were happy.

Although we ultimately went with a different company for our flooring install, Daniel was friendly and professional and spent a long time helping us decide which options would be best given our budget restraints. He appeared to take pride in his work and undoubtedly would have done a great job.

Being in California for only three weeks, and needing to replace old wood floors on a newly purchased home, I was extremely lucky to find Mike of M&M Custom Flooring. Not only was he quick to come out and give an estimate but he worked with me to get the job done as quickly as possible. From the start to the finish it was a painless process (unlike other trades I worked with) and the result is absolutely beautiful. His workers were polite, informed and cleaned up every day. What a pleasure!! Mike even did a few extra jobs for me while he was at the house- all with a smile and a great attitude. If only he worked in New York.

Mike & his team were wonderful to deal with.I was out of town when the work started & they kept me up to date on progress.They finished on time,on budget & I came home to absolutely gorgeous floors.

I called them in January. They came out and gave me a quote. The space had severe water damage and it needed to be repaired before it made sense to stretch and clean the carpet. It took me 5 additional months of work on my time to restore the room for habitation. I called back to M & M and they were polite and kind as if I had just called yesterday. No attitude, or funkiness, just really great service. Daniel came in and did the work and did a stellar job. He is an old school guy who knows his business. If quality is what you are seeking, you cannot beat M & M. They also recommended a cleaning service for the carpet, that I used. I am extremely satisfied with the result.

Very nice, efficient and professional. The carpet was installed on time in between Christmas and New Years, no problems and the carpet is great. The rugs we selected have been good too. They have a great selection of carpet types and colors. Installation was easy and quick. I would recommend them again.

This company knows their business. Those who worked on the floors and installed the carpet were the utmost professionals. I will definitely hire this company to complete another flooring task.

Excellent customer service, flooring looks fantastic!

M&M is professional, responsive, and knowledgeable. Michael visited our home to give a free estimate and was patient as we decided on our choice of carpets. They carry a large selection of quality carpets. The installers were punctual, hardworking, careful, and cleaned up nicely when done. There was a follow up by them following installation to see that all went well. The installers disassembled and moved furniture and reassembled beds and placed furniture when done. M&M contacted me following the work to insire that we were satisfied. My wife and I are very satisfied with the work and would use this company again.

Mike was early, professional and honest. Although this estimate did not end up in any work performed, I will use and recommend M & M without hesitation in the future.

Overall the process went smoothly. Mike was a referral from a colleague of my wife, who spoke highly of his work. We were pleased that he was highly rated at Angie's List so we contacted him, along with other contractors. The work he did on a house we just bought in Pasadena was truly impressive. If you have a busy schedule, and appreciate work that is done once, done right and done to exceed your expectation, consider Mike of M & M.

Mike was early for our appointed meeting time and he was patiently waiting by his truck. He presented himself well, but not overstated. It was a crazy day for my husband and I. We had the inspector, two agents, sewer inspector and Mike all at the same time. Mike was patient. After introducing myself, I asked Mike to take a look around and do what he had to do, while I greeted the other people. He went straight to work. After a few min, I met back up with him in the master bedroom. We chatted a bit and he showed me the condition of our floors in each room, pointing out the areas of concern. He made sure to take me room by room, which was appreciated. Overall, our floors were slated as worn out or too thin. He did say he try to do it, but he didn't think it was worth it overall. Mike took his time. He explained as much as he needed to, but did not, by any means, talk down to me. Mike made every effort to please me and assure me he can be trusted. Knowing we were probably not moving forward with the refinishing, I later met Mike at his showroom. (Sale opportunity just doubled for this man, HA ; ) Mike briefly explained the different types of floor samples. Then gave me a moment to pick out a few samples. Knowing our budget, I sassily said to him, "Do not let me look at stuff I cannot affort, Mike" Chuckling a bit, he quicking pointed out half the showroom. "Stay away from there and there. Oh and that display, don't look at it" he noted. Of course I HAD to look just to see what I could't affort. ;) Mike admitted that he works in the midrange to high end of the spectrum. I appreciated the quality and variety of woods he had to choose from. There were so many styles and textures, shades and tones, I loved going through them all with Mike. He was patient as a man could be a woman so excited she is busting at the seams to spruce up her new home. Mike was easy to work with and kinda fun too. Not what I expected, but everything I had hoped for in working with someone.

Wanted to hire M&M for the job, but I was way over on my budget for my full house remodel as is, and had to opt for another floor re-finishing company. While I feel okay with the company I opted for, I think M&M would have done a fantastic job if it wasn't for my budget situation.
