John Vega of Vegapatios is a perfectionist. He takes great pride in his work and it shows in the results. We had him build a free-standing patio cover and it?s exceptional, with every detail precise and, as we said, finished perfectly. We highly recommend his work for any outdoor job, especially anyone who wants a top of the line wood project. All this, with fair prices, can?t be beat.

We discussed this project with John and decided to hire him based on our past positive experiences with him and a photo review of other stone and backyard projects he had done. John’s work is excellent with great attention to detail. We did get a couple of other quotes and found his competitive. He is very creative and this project clearly shows this creativity. The BBQ Island is highly functional and visually pleasing to look at. The job went very smoothly and was completed in a timely manner. John is very demanding of himself and very meticulous. Another reason we went with John was we knew that if there were any issues at all we were not 100% satisfied with he would continue to address it till we were happy. The project was started based on a drawing and quote. In the original design we had included a small 4 gallon water heater, this unit turned out to be insufficient and John did the research and found a solution for $30 more, doubling the capacity. Other than the additional cost for the hardware there was no additional charges. We have received numerous positive comments on the BBQ and it has become a real focal point for that area of the backyard.
Description of Work: John built an Outdoor BBQ with Refrigerator, Gas Grill, Drawers and Sink (hot and cold running water) and lights. The BBQ include Granite bar top with seating for four. The sides of the BBQ are covered in veneer stone work. The costs did not include the appliances.
We were extremely pleased with the thoroughness, attention to detail and end result of the job, John executed for us. Design Phase: John was good at explaining based on experience what will work well or why he believes there may be an issue. We found he researched out ways to implement alternative suggestions that were similar to what you require, but more effective with the overall job. Unlike some of the other contractors we interviewed he was very collaborative and interactive with designs. His documentation was not as extensive as some of the others we interviewed, so initially we had some concerns, but his execution was great. Upon request he was very good about creating more detailed drawings to further explain his thoughts and plans. His references were strong and the work examples we saw were very good and along the lines of what we had planned for. John proved to be very creative and effective in implementing the designs envisioned. Execution of the job: In completing the work, John himself did a variety of activities including all aspects spanning the scope of the job including the employed and supervision of others. These activities included developing and executing the pattern tile flooring for patio and balcony, the wood working for the patio covers (replacing existing beams in the patio cover, replacing a smaller patio lattice cover and adding boots and collars to the pillars). He also managed other contractors (for the awning installations). He was very through and particular in carrying these responsibilities ensuring the jobs were done to the high standards he holds himself and others accountable too. If there were any areas of concerns we had for instance an uncertainty about a paint color used once it was applied, he redid the work as a part of the job. Clean Up: John was very through in completing the cleanup. He ensured any portion of the job he or his crew touched was thoroughly cleaned up after and including power washing and cleaning the surrounding areas.
Description of Work: John has done multiple jobs for us in and around the backyard over the last year including major work (spa, fence, pavers, sprinklers, drains and landscape) that is currently in process. That is why I'm using a current date. The first outside job that he completed earlier this year (Feb / March ) included carpentry, masonry, flooring, painting on multiple surfaces (wood, metal and stucco), and removing a wooden patio enclosure. John and his team repainted the patio, stucco and balcony rod iron railing. The railing required extensive remove of rust, primer and several coats of paint. The patio cover itself required extensive repairs (including replacing a primary beam due to dry rot and termite damage), primer and paint. He laid ceramic tiles (upstairs on balcony) and match the existing slate tiles and grout on the lower level to extend the lower level patio flooring creating a nice pattern in the process. The upstairs balcony awning we had bought and paid for separately. However, he supervised and then managed the installation of a retractable awning and two additional window awnings. His recommendations improved the original install to better cover the balcony area. When completing the job, he paid attention to fine details noting and improving some of the original patio work in areas like lighting, access doors, locks for entry and exit on the upstairs slider, and adding boots and collars to the patio pillars.
