One of Nick's handymen, Wess, gave us the estimate and did the actual work. He showed up for the estimate when he said he would, showed up on time the day he was scheduled to do the work. Finished quickly (probably took about 5-6 hours), cleaned up after he was finished. Final price was exactly what was quoted (plus materials). Best of all - it cost us less than half of other bids we got.
Description of Work: Drywall patch (approximately 3' x 6'), replace insulation, replace a small section of carpet pad, replace a small section of baseboard, replace a small section of trim on the inside of a window.

Nick arrived on time. Brought with him the replacement hardware just purchased from Home Depot. He spent a little more than a hour for the whole task. Cleaned up after himself at the end. Have not emailed me a receipt as agreed though.
Description of Work: Replaced leaking bathtub faucets, original hardware more than 20 years old.

We did not hire him to do the work at our house. He was so difficult to talk to on the first phone call I knew he wouldn't be easy to work with.
Description of Work: I had the same experience with Nick the Handyman as so many other people on this site. When I called (after not hearing back from them in 2 days as to when or if they went to my house to meet with my renter and get a quote for repairs) he acted annoyed that I called him. He was arrogant and rude. I have no idea how he has such a high rating on Angie's List. I knew after speaking with him for a few minutes that it would never work to try to work with him. I would never recommend him.

I have been using Nick for about 3 years for a variety of ?handyman? jobs?mainly electrical and plumbing as those are things I won?t touch in a condo. He has always done a good job for me no matter what I need him to do. I just had him out to re-do my kitchen under-sink plumbing, install a new garbage disposal and install a water filtration system. He did a great job and even when the filter system turned out to be bad and I had to take it back and get a different model he made it work. He was able to go do a different local job and then come back when I called and said I had the new unit. Not too many contractors would have done that. As I said, I have been using him for about 3 years now and will continue to have him first on my list for anything I can?t do myself.

They did a great job and we are happy with the results. They cleaned up afterwards. We will hire Nick again.
Description of Work: We hired Nick and his helper to replace both light fixtures in kitchen. They also replaced the kitchen faucet, sink and retiled around the new sink and and over the stove. They replaced the microwave with a range hood and cleared a drain in bathroom.
Always goes great, whether he comes himself or sends one of his handymen. I don't even need to be home. I usually send a text, leave a key under the mat and by the time I get home, everything I needed done is taken care of. He is always friendly and charges me a fair price for the work done. He is thorough and genuinely cares about the customer. There's nothing like coming home from work and having one of the rooms look way better than it did when you left that morning. If we're home, while work is being done, the guys will let my 11 year old son help because he likes to help out with fixing things. Anything that comes up he is able to do and if he is unsure about something he always asks. Whenever I call him for something, he will squeeze it in that day or come the very next day. He is always on time and the price is always reasonable. I would definitely recommend Nick of time to anyone in need of repairs or remodeling work for their home.
Description of Work: Nick and his handymen have done a wide range of things at my new home. The house is old so as things come up I just give him a call or send him a text and it's as good as done. I have had him install a gas line for the dryer in the garage, Install a 5 ' X 15 ' dog kennel in my back yard. He has done all of my lighting fixtures and ceiling fans, and fixed some electrical issues I've run into.

I wasn't happy to find out that an employee was going to do the job instead of Nick... it took longer than expected and my impression was that he was getting so much business he had to hire help at some point and things were getting backed up.
Description of Work: A door jamb had to be replaced. It was repaired by an employee, not by Nick. He was ok but forgot to purchase the new hardware and had to come back a different day to finish the job. He said it took longer than expected. I would have preferred that Nick do the job since he was the one I had used before and I wasn't expected to be handed off.

I was fooled by the A ratings Nick of Time had gotten and gave him a call to give us an estimate. Ours was a big project and I wanted to make sure I found someone who was reliable, honest, reasonable and professional. Nick gave us a good price, so we decided to go with him. As the job progressed I found out that I had to point out every imperfection to them. It was as if they didn't have any standards on how well a job should be done. At first Nick would point those imperfections to his workers and they would fix it. But over time, he started saying things like "You know for this price, you are not going to get perfection", or "This job is taking too long"!!!! Yes, it indeed took longer than expected, partially because of the scheduling issues with the flooring people, but mainly because of me having to go through everything they were doing that day, and them having the go back and fix it properly. Since I wasn't the one doing the job, I don't understand why I was being told that it was taking too long. I didn't bargain with Nick on the price and every time they were here, they left with a check made out for the job they did that day. I really didn't understand why he asked to be paid so often since I wasn't going to run away without paying him in the middle of the job. When we had told Nick that we wanted to change the doors and keep the door jams, he said it was possible to sand the jams and make them look good. Unfortunately the jams do not look anything like we thought they would. He said we should have gotten pre-hung doors if he knew that we were going to do such a big job of renovating the whole 4 rooms with hallway. I thought that the quote he gave us was on those rooms anyway. We noticed that the doors we purchased to be put in weren't painted properly. After seeing they were indeed not acceptable, he took the doors down and sanded them to paint them again which was nice of him. Because we had bought hardcore doors he had to put a third hinge to hold the door better which he repeatedly told us he wasn't happy about. When they were installing the baseboards and moulding after the hardwood floors were refinished, they paid no attention to protect the floors. As a result, floors were scratched and I had to call the floor people again to buff and put another coat on. Also one of Nick's workers had dropped a metal cover from the attic opening on the floor as he was putting iducting. It left a big dent on the newly refinished floors. That couldn't be taken care of. I decided to let it go, knowing there was nothing to be done about it. It took us over 2 months to get done with the 3 rooms and hallway. One month later, we were ready to start the TV room renovation. We called Nick about setting a date to start the job. He said the quote he had given us a month ago about the TV room actually wasn't effective anymore. But he decided to honor his quote later anyway. TV room is a small room, 10 feet by 13 feet which took them 3 weeks to get finished. I reminded them about being careful with the newly refinished hardwood floors this time. When I came to the room I found that they had put the nail-gun machine directly on the floor. The floor was scratched even worse than the other rooms, when I pointed out that to Nick he started yelling at me that he wasn't responsible for that, that he was an honest man. He kept on telling me how this job was taking too long. When I said I didn't understand why he kept telling me that as if I was the one doing the job, he got really mad. At that time, I was teaching piano to a student at my private studio. After 15 minutes of him shouting at me, I came to find that my student had already left without saying anything to me. I called my student to apologize for the scene, she said she understood and advised me to find another handyman. Thankfully, this was an adult student who had been with me for a long time. After calming down, Nick sent his worker to finish the painting job and told us that he was going to pay for buffing the floors and refinishing. We called the hardwood floor guys yet again, and had them come out and fix the floors. After the floors were done, I contacted Nick, he texted me that he wasn't going to finish the job and demanded that he get paid. When I told him I wasn't going to pay him for the doors he hadn't put in yet, he said his job was done and called it a "finished job". After texting him multiple times, he said he was going for a vacation for 10 days and would give me a call when he got back. He came to finish hanging the doors after he got back. His attitude which had gotten worse over the time he worked in my house, was totally unacceptable. I am a pianist and piano teacher who is also a member of faculty at a university. I give concerts in US and around the world. At that time, I had a concert I was preparing for. As he was putting in the door, Nick told me to "stop that noise, and that he couldn't concentrate on his job " when I was practicing. I find it REALLY offensive somebody working in my house is telling me what I can and what I can't do! After he hung the door, I tried to open it, it would get caught on the carpet. When I told him that, he said the door was in, he wasn't going to do anything about it. So to this day, we have to move the carpet to open and close the door. And that is not the only door that needs to be fixed. Another thing we found out later is about the ducting job Nick did. We are recently looking to get air conditioning put in our house. The people who come over to give us estimates told us that the ducting hadn't been done properly. When I told them we just had it done in the last 6 months, they took me to the attic and showed me the asbestos that was laying around, (which he charged us to remove), the ducts that were so loose they were coming off, some of which weren't even taped to anything! I was appalled by the fact that we had paid for a job not done properly and now we have to pay even more to have it fixed. What bothered me most with this whole experience is the lack of professionalism. Nick simply doesn't care if his costumers are happy or not, he's relying on the A ratings he had collected before. He clearly has major anger issues and lets his personal life interfere with his job. He also told us that Angie's List was really "greedy" for charging him a lot of money. Since he makes his living with the calls he gets because of his good ratings from Angie's List, I don't understand why he bad-mouths them. I would recommend everyone to stay away from Nick. I certainly will.
Description of Work: We used Nick to remove acoustic ceiling in 3 rooms, texture, and prime the walls, install the baseboards, put in new crown moulding, new doors, casing around the doors in 4 rooms and hallway, new closet doors in 3 rooms, put new ducting in our heater and new return.

Wow! If it isn't obvious as to this persons intent, let me retort! I did do a lot of work for this couple. In the beginning they told me they had a lot of bad experiences with contractors. That should have been a red flag to me to walk away. But needing to stay busy and work ad going with hoping I could please them like most of my customers, I proceeded to work for them. After the first phase of work, the husband told me I was "The best contractor they ever had". Great, right? That's what I thought. The wife did follow us around and point out every flaw that was noticeable.... Flaws that were already there. I gave them a bid to paint their home inside as it was, aside from a couple spots that needed patching. I did not give them an estimate to install new drywall or plaster throughout the whole house. I explained to them that when I paint, I am painting over the surfaces you have. We did texture, but there are some things texture will not hide unless you re drywall or plaster, which is very costly. This woman was unreasonable in her search for flaws n demanding they be fixed. In an effort to appease her we went back over every room and attended to various flaws, re patching, retexturing, reprinting at no extra charge. I seemed to appease them as they paid and called me for future work. Again, if I didn't need the work, I would've ceased to proceed. During the second phase of work I install crown moulding and baseboards. After the crown was installed and finished, they had a different company install cabinet doors in the hallway. We then installed the baseboards in the wall over the floor, taking care to not touch the new cabinet doors. After the baseboard was in and painted, Mrs. member, said I needed to buy her a new cabinet door because I ruined one of theirs. When I asked her to show me where, se pointed out a door that had a black mark on it. I put a little spit on my sleeve and wiped it off right in front of her! I also explained to her that we were not even working that high up and that we did not infect damage her door! In the last phase we were to paint a room and ceiling. The room had a ceiling fan in it and hardwood flooring that had just been refinished. I previously asked that the flooring refinishing be done after we were done and out as to not have to work on a newly refinished floor(makes sense right?). They did the floors anyways, so when we went in to work, we covered the floors and enclosed the ceiling fan in plastic as we normally would. After painting was complete, we removed the plastic from the fan and turned it on to air the room out(so it worked at this point). AFTER that, Mrs. member took to cleaning the fan with spray chemicals as I witnessed her doing so. Mind you this was a thirty year old fan!!! After she got done cleaning the fan, it would not turn on. This is when Mrs. member, demanded I buy her a new ceiling fan. Mrs. member also claimed we scratched the newly refinished wood floor, even though, after we left, her and her husband moved furniture into the room. Again, I don't believe we scratched her floor, but in an effort to provide outstanding customer service, I agreed to pay for the floor to be buffed and refinished($200). I got the number of the flooring guy who refinished the floor, and called him. He was very nice to me, however at first he refused to do any more work for the Unal. It seems they griped and moaned the whole time he was there too and he would rather not work than go back and deal with them. After talking with him a little more, he agreed to go and buff and refinish the floor, and at no charge to me as a professional courtesy, as he "knew what kind of people I was dealing with". I am so thankful to him for helping out when I know he did not want to go back there. And I don't blame him. My painter told me she heard Mrs. member screaming at her husband and calling me bad names while I was outside the last day! These people, The member make it hard for a decent, honest, hardworking guy like myself, to want to continue in this industry. They are miserable and unhappy with their own lives and find others to take it out on. I'm am not anyone's "whipping boy" I do my best to please people, yet there are those who do not want to be pleased. They want to try and take others down to their level. I feel sorry for anyone who deals with the members in the future. Good riddance. If you reading this, are this kind of person/people, please call any one of my competitors. Thank you
Katia N.

I have never in my whole life seen a man with as bad of an attitude as this man. I have no idea how he has such a high rating on Angie's List. He has such a foul mouth. At first, I thought that I could look past his attitude and only concentrate on the work to be done. After the work was completed, I tried to obtain the receipts, or at least copies of the receipts for some of the items from him and he wasn't responding to my calls or emails. I sent him an email asking him why he was ignoring me. When I asked him the same question very quietly in person he lost control - went crazy. On purpose, it seemed as if he wanted my neighbors to hear him. I have not gone outside today because I felt so ashamed. I don't feel as if he would've treated a man in this way - he wouldn't have dared. The man who came out was just fine, I even tipped him.
Description of Work: Some electricity work - installed 3 small chandeliers. He fixed 3 drawers. The owner sent a worker to complete the jobs.

The initial screen door job went well. My concern is with Nick's communication. When I originally reached out to Nick, I felt I was very clear on all the work we wanted complete: screen door repair (see above), a cabinet installed over the toilet and a new side fence built and installed. We discussed options on the cabinet (building on-site vs buying pre-built) as well as the fence. I traded phone texts and a few calls with Nick, each time him telling me he would send photos of fences he had previously installed. No photos were sent and after almost a month, I contacted him and asked him about his continued interest, advising I would look for another handyman since I had not heard from him. It was at this point he advised he wasn't interested in the rest of the work. While I appreciate the work done on the screen door and cabinets, I feel he could have told me a lot sooner that he was no longer interested, at which point I would have moved on with another person to do these jobs instead of waiting for Nick. That's disappointing.
Description of Work: The weather and constant wear & tear rendered the front wood screen door in need of some TLC. I had removed it since it would no longer close flush with the door jam. Nick repaired the door, re-sized to fit flush and re-screened due to tears in the original screen. Also, since he had his tools on site to repair the screen door, he was nice enough to re-size some kitchen cabinet doors since they too were sticking.

A two day job that ended up taking a one week. They came on Monday and finished the wall repair on Tuesday. Nick didn't show up for a couple of days. Someone came on Tuesday to work on installing a bathroom vanity and then came back on Thursday at 4pm to finish. The problem they hadn't told me they were coming, so I wasn't here to let them in to work. They finally showed up on Friday and finally finished it, therefore a two-day project became a week long project.

Nick came on time and provided a complete estimate by email. When we accepted his bid, we scheduled the work via email, which worked very well. Nick and his helper arrived a bit late due to truck problems. However they went right to work on the list of tasks. The gutter cleaning was especially tricky as some were at a second story level and there was no roof access. But, with an extension ladder, they were able to remove all the leaves and unclog a down-spout, with the result that our gutters are working better than they have in years. Nick climbed into our attic to install the bathroom vent. In spite of some intrusive wiring, he quickly completed the installation. Meanwhile his helper did all the touch-up painting. Nick had scheduled a masonry person to patch our concrete wall. However, when the masonry person just decided not to come, Nick did the work himself. We were delighted with that result. The wall looks beautiful. Nick cheerfully loaded three very heavy boxes of books into our car, when we asked. Not only that, he took down a wall hanging with his extension ladder all for no extra charge. Nick and his helper worked non-stop for 4 hours to complete all the work. They cleaned up afterwards, including all the gunk from the gutters. Our list of repairs for escrow was complete. We are very satisfied.
Description of Work: We had a variety of small repairs to be done for the sale of our house. These included touching up exterior paint where termite repair had been done, cleaning out the gutters on a 2-story house, installing a bathroom vent, and patching a concrete wall.

Called Nick who was on a job at the time and explained I would like the job done today if possible. He and his helper showed up a few hours later, were very nice and went right to work. I know both faucets were difficult to remove as my husband and son had already attempted to remove them. Nick left for a short time to pick up a few parts and basically worked for about 3.5 hours to complete the job on both faucets, valves ect… Overall I am very pleased and even though it ended up costing a bit more then expected I feel confident that things were done right. I know if I would have called a full on plumber I would have paid way more, one quote I had just to replace a faucet was $250 and I had 2 faucets replaced and valves done for $320 not bad in my opinion.

Nick was very prompt to respond to emails, which is how we did most of our communicating. Each time we met, he was early for the meeting. He asked the right questions and immediately understood what I wanted. It was so easy! He delivered a quality product that looks better and is more secure than I expected. He merely needed to match the storage cabinets that other condo owners in my building had built. But he noticed some things about those other units that could be improved upon (like hinges that could easily be screwed off). So he recommended better hinges. He also took it upon himself to add latches on the inside of the doors so that when opening the cabinet, both doors would not swing open. Little things, but they made a difference in the quality of the product. The cost was very close to the estimate. The labor turned out to be a little more than expected but he kept the agreed upon pricing on that. The materials went over by about $80. That was the overage. But still a great price for the service provided (I did obtain other estimates and Nick was very competitive). I would definitely hire Nick again and refer him to friends.

We arranged a date and time for Nick of Time Handyman to give us a bid for various work. He was a no-show. He did not call to say he was unavailable, or give us any other notice that he was not going to make the appointment. Very unprofessional. We of course would not recommend this fly-by-night contractor.

We are thrilled with the outcome. Nick of Time did a great job, was fair in his pricing, and very respectful to us. Our bathroom is a awesome and we love it! We would use Nick of Time again. Nick listened to what we wanted and even met us at the plumbing shop to help pick faucets. He went out of his way to pick up our materials when we couldn't.
Description of Work: Nick of Time moved and replumbed the bathroom, build a tub enclosure for our new whirlpool tub, tiled, the tub/shower area, and floor, put in insulation and new drywall, ran new electrical, installed a soffet and lighting in three places, installed a cabinet and countertop, installed crown moulding, installed plumbing fixtures, primed and painted the entire bathroom.

I called Nick originally to hang some newly purchased blinds for a sliding glass door. Nick and his helper John, completed the blind installation quickly, neatly and removed all packaging and old blinds. While he was there I asked him to estimate cost to install an electrical outlet on exterior wall of my condo on my patio. He gave me a great estimate for labor and materials and said he could do the work right then if I wanted. This job required him to make a trip to Home Depot to get materials. He even asked what color cover I wanted for the external outlet, which I would never have considered. He performed this installation in a very timely manner, the job was of the highest quality and he was meticulous in cleaning up after the job. He explained everything in detail, answering all my ignorant homeowner questions. He is a great guy and I will happily use him for all my future handyman projects and refer him to my friends! Description of Work: With our house going up for sale in one week, I've been on a tight schedule to get a list of tasks completed in time to bring in the all the final cleaning crews. You can only imagine the panic i found myself in when our scheduled service provider was a no show! No call, no card, no service : ( Not and Angies List purveyor btw! My agent recommended the slacker no show! Well, let me tell you, when I called "Nick of Time Handyman Service" they saved the day!! One hour after my initial call, Nick was at my doorstep with his assistant ready to knock out the tasks. He hung drywall in the garage, fixed wiring and replaced the button of a 40+ yr. old doorbell and reinstalled. He replaced outdoor lighting fixtures and fixed all of the confused and even dangerous electrical wiring that a contractor installed for our automatic sprinkler system and malibu lighting. Something I didn't even know wasn't all together safe! He caulked showers, and fixed the hoses of a bathroom sink so cold water actually comes out of the "cold" side . Imagine that! Finally, Nick and crew tackled the nasty business under the kitchen sink. Very rotted particle board was removed and replaced with nice, clean, pine. The wall was patched around the pipes, sink caulked. FINISHED! I will be forever grateful to "Nick of Time Handyman Service." Initially, Nick actually couldn't fit me in until Tuesday of the following week, but due to a cancellation, he made my job a priority. Maybe I whimpered just a little.... Thank you, thank you, thank you Nick. I will use your services at our new house for sure!
