My son's bedroom had poor air flow to the room. We had service champions come out to take a look. First of all their "opinion" cost $69.00 which bought us absolutely nothing! They would not provide an estimate to fix the issue we brought them out for. They then proceeded to tell us that we would need a complete redesign to our system $15,000!!!! Mind you that our house was built in 2001, which makes their "opinion" completely outrageous! The tech that showed up tried to drop little catch phrases with my wife like "can you feel how heavy the air is up here" and "health hazard" and this is before he even looked at ANYTHING!!! We felt like we were completely being scammed and could not wait to show them the door! Also, they were trying to make sure that my wife and I would be at home at the same time while they were there. I'm thinking just in case we had to sign any sort of big contract, say for $15,000! We're going to take our $69.00 beating and move onto a more reputable company. Very disappointing!
Description of Work: Estimate to resolve heating/cooling airflow to one room in the house. They however refused to give us an estimate to do this once they showed up.

After the initial conference on what I needed to do, Service Champions arranged for the asbestos ducts to be removed by another company the next day. The day after that the new ducts, coil and furnace was installed. These guys did a super job They worked very hard and long. Only took one very short break. They cleaned up everything from the job. Never know they were here. They were very careful of the property (wore booties all the time). Very polite . This is a very good company to work with. They keep you informed continually of what is going on. I highly recommend them to anyone needing their system serviced or updated.
Description of Work: I needed a new furnace and coil. Also I had asbestos ducts that needed to be removed and replaced.

I didn’t dislike anything. They were here when they said they would be here. They completed the job when they said they would. The workmen were very courteous. I had no complaints whatsoever. I got a rebate from the state and the federal government. I also have a service contract with them. They have been servicing my heater and air conditioner for a number of years. The quality of service is very good. Their responsiveness is excellent. They are very punctual and professional. I would use them again in the future.

I had called them to service my a/c which is an old piece of equipment. Matt came by on time, went through everything systematically, and had the a/c running in no time. He then spent time going over what he saw in the furnace while inspecting the a/c problem, and called another technician for a confirmation of what he saw was a safety hazard. It was a good experience and makes me feel I am in good hands with these guys.
Description of Work: I am very impressed with the professionalism these guys have shown and to put my money where the mouth is I signed up for their monthly service plan. Matt, the technician, was on time, very professional, courteous and completed his work with diligence. He spent time with me going over the furnace though I hadn't called him for that at all, and went over the hazards he saw. It wasn't just a sales pitch either. I highly recommend these guys - I have hired others before and these guys are well worth what you pay for.

I would recommend them to anyone. Their office personnel is very courteous, and acted very professional. They even washed my patio down before they left to make sure they didn't leave a mess, and I found this to be very courteous. With my past experience, I feel the owner is very conscious of customer service.
Description of Work: They tuned up my air conditioner, washed it down, cleaned it and made sure everything was working well before they left. They also checked my entire furnace and made sure it was working well.

Service Champions checked out our furnace which had started making a fairly loud noise, and was coming on and off quite often. Unfortunately, the furnace and AC both needed to be replaced. They showed us what was happening and gave us estimates for several different configurations of furnace and AC. We chose a very good (but not top of the line) furnace, and a basic AC. They were installed very professionally. Everyone from the service person who checked out our system, to the two installers, to the office staff persons who set up and then followed up on our scheduled install were all great. Courteous, friendly, prompt,, professional and thoroughly competent. This is my second experience with Service Champions. I used them the first time on a property I manage, after reading the reviews on Angie's List. I'm very happy with them.

Our experience was very good. They did what they said they were going to do in the time frame they promised. No one from their management ever showed up other then the lead installers. There was no follow up from the management after the work was done. The only reason I ever spoke with a manager was to get a rebate that I was promised. The technicians were very good in my opinion.

The main furnace decided to quit on us in the middle of winter. After calling Service Champions twice, they immediate set up an appointment for the following day ( I chose a PM appointment time frame). In the AM of appointment day, a nice rep called to confirm I would be home. The repair tech, who arrived on schedule, was polite and professional. Even his uniform was crisp and clean. After reviewing the issues with him, he went spent the next 90 minutes taking apart my furnace. Afterward, he explained and showed me in detail where the furnace had failed. He advised he could fix but the repair would probable last maybe 1-2 seasons before failing again. He provided me the pros and cons and advised what he would do personally and professionally. I was impressed. After advising not to proceed with repairs, he spent another 30-45 minutes putting everything back together again. The only charge was for the service visit. He left behind plenty of information and reviewed the issues again out front on the porch before leaving. This tech was a real pro. He represents his company very well. I give them the highest recommendation possible.

I?m very pleased with them. I?ve been dealing with them for more than ten years so I was comfortable on signing a service contract with them. It has been very convenient in dealing with them. Their price is okay I guess; I haven?t been looking out for comparisons. They have installed Heating and Air conditioner for $9000 at our house and for $8000 at the rental house. I have just had a lot of high end money invested with them and they have always provided good quality for me. They are courteous and they always follow up. They call back after a service call and take rating on the person they sent out for the job and so on. I?m not sure if they are the cheapest on price but everything else is conscientious.
Description of Work: Service Champions have installed heating and air conditioning units in my house and rental property. I have them on a service contract for $15.95 per month. They come out every three months for cleaning either the furnace or the air conditioners. They were just out last month to do a maintenance check on the furnace. I also had them put in a new air conditioner in my rental house in March last year.

Great first impression. Prompt and professional installation service. Really amazing. The whole thing was done in less than a week. But, the post-installation experience has been frustrating for three main reasons that continue to frustrate us nearly 6 months later. First, SC assured us that they would arrange for the final city inspection - didn't happen. And, when we tried to schedule the final inspections ourselves, the city stonewalled us because SC had all the paperwork the city needed. It took SC a month to get the paperwork to the city before the signed off on it. Second, SC assured us that they would handle the paperwork for the federal tax credit for installing a high efficiency AC unit - didn't happen. One inspector told us that id did, SC told us it does not. Third, SC assured us that they would arrange for professional and curteous financing with CITI - awful!! CITI has been nothing but trouble, from billing us for the wrong amount to penalizing us with fees because (CITI claims) that SC didn't get them the correct billing information at the get go. I know SC is not 100% responsible for our problems with CITI, but SC shouldn't be pawning off their customers to such an exasperating company like this!! We had to save $$ for a year before we could install AC in our house and our post-install experience has been full of headaches. SC makes a great first impression, but make sure you have all your 't's crossed and 'i's dotted before you sign up for SC!! Postscript (1/26/11): One day after uploading my review, Lisa from Service Champions contacted me regarding my frustrations descibed above. Within a couple days, she had resolved issues 1 and 2. She contacted the city to verify that all inspections and permits had been completed and discovered that the purchase and installation of our AC unit did indeed qualify for a federal tax credit of $1,500. She apologized for the confusion and explained that rules and regulations regarding tax rebates for appliances are sometimes slow to reach retailers, which is why I received contradictory information about our AC unit from SC over the past several months. Finally, although Lisa offered to contact CITI in an attempt to resolve Issue 3 (which I appreciate but I'm not sure if she ever did), I recognize that is not something that SC can do much about.I will be smarter next time and avoid CITI financing all together. In all, she handled my concerns quickly and professionally and I am grateful for her assiatance.

A few days later the supervisor and the service representative showed up. They had the parts to fix the furnace but the question was the black material. I told them I would not pay the additional $839 until my handyman had looked at the black material. Amazingly the material was not mold. Talking with the supervisor about a new furnace he stated the lowest price would be $1,800 for a new furnace. Of course the price could go higher if I wanted a better product. The company had surmised that I was a woman living alone and assured me they could help me. I declined a new furnace and was told by the surpervisor that he could not guarantee that I would not have a fire although the first serviceman had told me I would not have a fire. The supervisor told me the furnace would only probably last a year- if that long. I considered these statements "scare taticts". The serviceman left with money for the new parts, I had a service contract and had paid $59 for the call. I would suggest anyone dealing with the company get a second estimate and be very careful of what they say about their products. In summary this company will come out and look at my air conditioner and I bet they will find something wrong.
Description of Work: I was called by Service Champions and asked whether I wanted my furnace checked for the price of $59.00, I said yes and the sevice men arrived on 12/17/10. They examined the furnace and stated the coils were damaged and two other parts were defective. They needed to order the parts. Then a discussion ensued on whether I wanted a service contract. I was told the cost of $179.40 for the service contract could only be taken out of my checking account. I would not allow that so a special call was made to a supervisor and he "allowed" me to pay the entire amount. I also needed to pay the $59.00 for the call. We discussed the advantage of buying a new furnace since I was going to pay almost $2000 for repairs to the old furnace. I agreeded to have a supervisor meet me and discuss the value of a new furnace. During the visit I was asked when I would be home and when I would not be home and I was asked where my husband was. These I felt were completely unnecessary questions and were probing for information. I was also showed pictures of my coils covered with something black which if it was mold would cost an additional $839 to rid the area of the mold.

The problem is that they never called back with an actual estimate to do the work he just left saying it would be around $15,000. We were also told to not run the heater or it could explode. I guess they just wanted the $70. they charged to come to the house.

The major problem with them is they try to sell you all kinds of extra services that you don't need and they want you to sign up for a "Gold or Silver" membership at $17.95 per month. The whole approach is to wow you with how they take care of the basics, and then take you aside and use hard sell tactics to "recommend" all kinds of extra, very expensive services in addition to the membership. For the AC in July, they recommended a "compressor saver /hard start" kit for $354, which I declined (My AC worked just fine all summer). I signed up for the Gold membership in order to get the discount for the serv ices they did provide. The guy was very professional, did an impressive job, and then gave me the hard sell. I stayed with them until November figuring it was worth it to get the heating service done. I paid $ 67 for the July work, and $17.95 a month from July to November, for a total of $140 to get both jobs done. But the heating guy showed me some minor rust on the AC cooling unit and said it was clogged and recommended a "coil wash" for $800 ("discounted" by his supervisor from $1300, just for me), which I declined. Then he left without resetting the safety switches, which caused me to suffer frigid temperatures for the two days it took for them to come back and fix it. Bottom line is they use their ads, "wow" service and friendly manner to sell unnecessary memberships and service, and when they can't sell you they lose interest and the service declines.
Description of Work: Annual maintenance service on air conditioning and heating systems. In July, I responded to their ad offering an AC tune-up for $77. They did: tune-up, new air filter, wash/wax AC unit, add refrigerant, tighten loose components, then tried to sell me a monthly membership and an extra service for $354. Then they came out in November to service the heating system. The guy recommended an extra $800 service, and when I declined, forgot to reset the safety switches, so a couple of weeks later when I tried to turn on the heat, it wouldn't come on. They came out two days later and fixed it, but I froze at home for those two days.

For the first time in awhile, I found a solid contracting company (thanks to AngiesList) that maintains a philosphy much like my own. That is, in my opinion, its not about how much or even how little profit is generated on a job. But rather, how the two parties feel after the business transaction is complete. Do I feel like my money was well spent? Do they feel they delivered a quality product, installation and customer experience they can stand behind? Yes and Yes. Customer service was, for lack of a better synonymous analogy, comparable to Bloomingdales. I had a couple qualms when the job was first completed. But they made sure I was satisfied with their work in the end. They sent a manager out to talk in-person (by the way, these guys were always ON TIME). It could of been just a phone conversation but they actually sent a manager to spend a good amount of Q&A time with me. I must emphasize, these guys are professional and do very clean work (eg, no sloppy wiring, no crooked mounting etc). They replaced the entire HVAC system and did some city code upgrades: added a vacation switch/Breaker box on the furnace, a drain clog detector/shutoff for the coil run-off, high pressure inline filter, replacement of the old slow blow compressor fuse with a newer fuse box, replacement of drip loop/conduit, various weatherproofing, a new breaker (30amp) on main panel, sealed furnace sub floor, installed new outlet boxes, and filed city permits for all such. They hauled away old my system. Cleaned all their mess up and were very careful not to scratch walls/doors and floors. They were even well dressed. No stained/torn clothes. Shirts tucked in. Clean cut. I give them an A rating for that also. Oh, and come to find out, they even background check and drug test their employees. Yes, they might be a little in the higher price range but I dont mind paying more for a company that cares that much. I will deduce they care about their reputation as an established company should care. Some of these smaller/cheaper companies could switch names overnight and could probably care less about it. But I digress, Service Champions I highly recommend. I do wish they did more than just HVAC work so I could use them for other contracting work. But than again, a solid company with a solid busines model, focuses on their core compentencies and doesnt try to be all things to all people. For Google, it is search and online advertising. For Apple, their core compentency is innovative design and technology. For Service Champions, its HVAC... and they definately have the customer service to boot. In the end, I did pay more choosing Service Champions but it was worth it. I got A+ service, a quality installation and a LENNOX system which is a arguably the best. Which is very well why they install Lennox stuff??? The last note, you know those marketing mailings you get all the time from a guy named Leland Smith? Will this is them. Service Champions. I thought that was a cool coincidence. Thank you Mr Smith, for running a business that people will remember for the better.

Service champions came out to repair my 22 year old AC unit. They spent several hours over three days troubleshooting the unit to no avail. It was determined that a circuit board was bad which was no longer available. I asked them if they install new units, and within an hour, a representative was at my house designing a new unit. They scheduled my installation three days later and the job was done in a professional manner in one day.

My husband was a little concerned about some of the things that he said that needed to be repaired. The estimator was going to tell us as to how much he was going to charge us and it seemed to be a lot. My husband realized that he would be overcharging. They kind of overcharged for things that were extremely simple. The estimate was $400 and my husband thought that it could be done for probably $150. They charged us for the service call but it ended up that they were late on the first time and we couldn?t have them come. So they took $10 off the next day when they came and that was cool. I would probably not use their services in the future.

Technican explained the importance of all components and was very through in cleaning and servicing the various components.
Description of Work: Went beyond the $77 tune up. Bought hard start kit for $266 which is suppose to make air conditioner more efficient and lower cooling bills and lower stress on condensor or compressor (I forgot which one). Also bought service warranty at $17.95 per month. Warranty has some good features because both heating and cooling should be inspected yearly. Time will tell if warranty was a wise move.

Please be aware that Service Champions are running a bait and switch using a mailer\letter. I received a letter (offer) in the mail from them, signed by Leland Smith, promising to do a complete tune up of your AC. The letter actual states, ?I will give you?re A/C a complete precision tune up and professional cleaning. Instead of a simple check up, it is separated into 26 individual operations. Each operation is complete with all necessary material including filters and performed by a seasoned professional yada yada yada". However, according to the tech, they don?t include any ?materials? except a filter. When the technician showed up, I said you?re doing the $77 tune up with all materials included yes? He said no. I then proceeded to show him the letter where it states all material is included. He still said that?s not what he is doing. ! I don?t know about you, but how can you say ?including all material? and not include all material. When you say, it?s complete with all necessary material including filters; the implication is that ?including? means, in addition to filters, not just filters. Image if you went to get your car tuned up and they said the oil and fluids are extra. Not a good practice. We called the manager and he said, well, we?ve been doing this for 10 years and it doesn?t include materials and you don?t have to do it if you don?t want to. Well, I didn?t. I didn?t like the fact that they?re running a bait and switch. Additionally, their letter says that "I will guarantee you a 100% profit in writing, or I will return your $77 with no hard feelings. Meaning that I will save the $77 over the previous year?s electrical bill. Well, after talking to the tech, they only guarantee it if he certifies you?re A/C unit. Again, nothing in their letter states to that fact. Enough said, be wary of Service Champions.
Description of Work: No service was completed. I requested one and the technician showed up but we found out they are running a bait and switch operation.

I originally thought that the charge would be $740 but when it was discovered that the valves were bad, that added an additional $740 to the total charge. Jeff was friendly and professional and gave me a very thorough explanation of what he was doing. He worked quickly and each time he came into the house he put on some booties so as to not track in dirt. I decided to go with the Gold monthly service plan. ($17.95) which covers both the A/C and the furnace..
Description of Work: Checked out our A/C which was apparently leaking coolant. The difference between the intake and output was about nine degrees where it is supposed to be at least twenty degrees. Performed a leak check and recharging and recover functions. Replaced two valves that were damaged and recharged the system with coolant.

We had used Service Champions last February to replace our heater. We were very pleased with the results and had no doubt when it came to calling them about replacing our old air conditioner. The gentleman who came to give us the estimate clearly explained the work to be done and the price was reasonable. The service technicians who did the work were very skilled and courteous. They were efficient and cleaned up well. We were very pleased with the results.
Description of Work: Replaced a very old 4 ton air conditioner.

I had to push the order taker to get them to agree to come out on a specific day, and then they were very late in arriving within the window they said they would. The first day they tested and figured out the problem, and then returned two days later, on time and as scheduled, to complete the repairs. The repairman was friendly and courteous and was very conscientious about not tracking in dirt as he came in and out of the house.
Description of Work: Trouble shooting and repair of central A/C unit for low air flow and slow start up.
