I think their really good and worthwhile.
Description of Work: I bought a central air conditioning and heat system that was out of warranty. Service Champions said they could update the system by replacing the capacitors in the unit.

I don't have time for a start to finish evaluation. Suffice it to say that I resent this company's tactics of spending a long time cleaning and inspecting a furnace and coming up with their solution of selling me a new furnace at an inflated price, plus selling me a service contract.
Description of Work: After receiving a letter from Service Champions offering an extensive cleaning and tune-up for $79, I called to arrange.. The technician did a one-hour inspection & cleaning and said he had to call his supervisor to verify his findings. When the "supervisor" arrived, he said the furnace was unsafe and he really was supposed to disable the furnace from being used, but since the weather was so cold, he wouldn't shut it down. He then launched into his sales pitch for a new furnace and service contract. I felt pressured and resented their tactics.

We were amazed how far beyond what anyone would expect, the company went to correct a small issue. I was surprised to say the least, at the professionalism and concern displayed by the owner in his willingness to service our HVAC. Definitely would recommend the company to anyone wanting quality service in a timely manner

We spend hours training our staff and have developed processes and procedures to make every attempt to assure our customers a positive and productive encounter when using our services. My staff thought that your concerns were explained in terms that resulted in a satisfactory ending during the March 20th phone call, and I am sorry they were not. I have now read your letter dated April 5th and I hope this response helps you understand that our processes and procedures are actually in place to protect and assist you. Children Involvement: I’m sorry you felt pressured to have your son contacted while our technician was at your home. We require all technicians, when potential safety issues are found in a furnace and replacement may be recommended, to contact a family member. We feel, at times, customers need advice and it gives them comfort in their decision making process. We have found this process extremely comfortable and satisfying for the family when we do this. I apologize if this was inconvenient for you. Second Opinions: This process is a mandatory requirement for all of our technicians. The guy who came could not have been nicer or more forth coming with the information. He was very knowledgeable. He helped me understand the problem and my different options. He repaired the air conditioner. We also signed up for a monthly contract with them so they are basically on call once a year. They come out twice a year to clean the heater and the air conditioner. The same guy came out to clean my heater per my request. Again, he was really nice and helpful. I could not be happier with their service. They are great!

The service is quite good. It does depend on the individual technician. Overall, the quality of the work is good. They call maybe a week or two in advance to make an appointment. They call the day prior to remind me of the appointment time. They always let me know if they are running late. They are almost always on time.
Description of Work: They installed both a furnace and an air conditioning unit. I also signed up for their bi annual maintenance. They came in the winter to clean the furnace to ensure the ducts were working properly. In the summer, they come to clean the outside compressor.

Very professional and prompt, from the original quote (12/12/12) to the work being performed. They stayed in contact, updated us and confirmed the day before the work was to be done. The workers were polite, worked efficiently, and cleaned up after the work was completed. All paperwork required was supplied - I wish the city was as prompt - as we are still waiting for inspection - or we would be done by now.

I have just acquired a new home and hadn't turned on the heat yet. One day when I needed to turn on the thermostat, I noticed that it mentioned low battery and when I went to find where to replace the batteries there was nothing on the screen. I called the number on the thermostat which was to Service Champions Inc. She was very nice and walked me through changing the batteries, set the temperature and program the thermostat. She also set an appointment for a technician to do a complete inspection and cleaning. I even joined their maintenance package to help with service calls and an annual cleanings.

The technicians are always very professional. They wear clean uniforms, booties, and clean up after themselves. They very thoroughly check air conditioning and the furnace. They have several times gone above and beyond in their work.

I called Service Champions after receiving their letters in the mail for quite a while. I liked the letter from the owner of the company and decided to take them up on their $77.00 tune-up special on my A/C unit. Between the time that I made the appointment and the time they actually came out, my unit started acting up and wasn't cooling the house normally. As it got hotter and hotter outside at the beginning of August, the unit began working very poorly and I would have to spray the unit down with a hose to cool off the compressor and get it to kick on. When Service Champions came out, I discussed with them how the unit had been working and was even thankful that the unit was acting up when the tech arrived so that he could see exactly what was going on and hopefully resolve the issue. Let me say that he was VERY professional and very courteous of my home, making sure to put on his booties so as to not track dirt in the home.After spending quite a bit of time with the unit itself as well as the furnace and checking all of the duct work, I was told that my compressor was bad and they recommended that I replace the entire unit. This recommendation actually came from a supervisor that had shown up after the original tech and was there throughout the service. He tried to give me the hard close by saying that he could give me better pricing than his "sales team" but that I would have to take advantage of his offer right away before he left my house. Although he did not give me an exact quote, he said a new unit would cost me between $4500 and $12000. After hearing this, I decided to call my home warranty company and see what could be done through that. They charged me for an inspection fee which was $60 and sent out another heating and air conditioning company from the area. After testing the unit, the new tech confirmed that the compressor was bad and that it would need to be replaced. I asked him if the entire unit would need to be replaced and he said no, just the compressor. I asked him how much this part would be even though it would be covered through my home warranty and he said between $400 and $800. The tech contacted the insurance company to put in the order for the compressor but because the part was not readily available for my unit and it would be probably about a week before he could get it, he decided to try something else. He installed what is called a kick boost onto the condenser which is what powers the compressor. After installing this kick boost, the unit is now working just fine and cooling my home even on the hottest of days.So Service Champions did not recommend or even give me the option of replacing parts on the unit nor did they try anything that may help the unit work better. Their only recommendation was to replace the unit with a new one at a considerably much higher cost than to even replace a part. For this reason I will never call them again for any kind of service. Thankfully, I had my home warranty to fall back on but I am sure most people do not and would fall prey to this company's unnecessary recommendations. While they were clean cut and professionally dressed and did their best to make me feel comfortable that they were there to help me, don't be fooled. I do not recommend this company.
Description of Work: Performance Tune-up of my AC unit. Checked temperature of air going in to furnace and air coming out of vents to make sure there was at least a 22 degree difference. Inspected furnace and replaced air filter. Inspected air ducts in attic.

Awful, these Guys are CROOKS. They respond fast to RIP YOU OFF!!!
Description of Work: OK, my A/C died, and I have a Gold Service Contract with these guys. They installed a heater about a year back and did do a good job (I now wonder if I shold have checked with someone else!!). They come and look at it and say the fan motor broke, charge is $1000. I said no way a motor costs that much ( I am engineer). Went on-line found it was only $350. I talked with my neighbor and he recommended a guy, who came at 9:30 at night and checked and said no way the motor is bad, it was just a $30 capacitor. He fixed it in 30 minutes changed some filters and charged my $110. I called and cancelled my contract with them.Like other reviewers say, these guys are slick with their Dog and Pony Show. Don't fall for it. They will flash their Angie's list but also check other reviews online and you will see these guys are CHARLATANS!!.

Dont buy from them and join their club. Use someone else. They sold us on the exspensive gold package Lenox air conditioner. I dont know who to use, but dont use them.
Description of Work: Service Champions sold me an air conditioner that the condenser has failed twice in four years and they installed the condensate line wrong which backed up with water and shut the unit down. This last time it was the heat wave and my house was 90 degrees inside with my dog and cat. They said they couldn’t come out for a week. I had to call another air conditioning service that was out that day and they fixed the problem that was probably under warranty for 400.00 . All Service Champions keep telling me is that I needed to be on their club membership and I would have gotten faster service if I belonged to their club. Don’t buy their club nonsense and don’t buy an air conditioner from them.

We would like to offer our many apologies for your frustrating experience. According to our records the new HVAC System was installed 5/30/08 and then not until 9/14/09 were we requested to return to the home for service, which was a $49.00 AC Tune up; and at that time a Contractor and Freon were installed at absolutely no charge. We then did not hear from the client until July 2012. Unfortunately we were unable to provide service as quickly as the homeowner needed, we are sorry for that, it was a busy period for us due to the warmer weather. Once a Manager was made aware that the customer was unhappy, our Service Manager Jodie Deegan contacted the customer by telephone on 7/17/12 and offered to review the Invoice from the Contractor who had already come out to repair the unit, so as to review the exact repair completed, and discuss the possibility of reimbursing all or part of the repair price. The customer declined the offer and the call was ended at the clients request. The HVAC System requires documented preventative maintenance visits in order to retain Manufacturer Warranties. Service Champions shows a lapse in preventative maintenance for a 3 year period. Service Champions encourages the Client to contact Management for further discussions of an amicable settlement to the situation. We want very much to come to a satisfactory resolution for the Homeowners, and optimistically await contact from the customer.

We were very happy with our Sales Rep, Steve. We were already under a maintenance contract with Service Champions. They came out to do our winter inspection on the heater and found it to be extremely dangerous to operate. They showed up the air leakage of dangerous gas into the house. We also review the Coscto plan quotes and our contractor who was remodeling the house at that time. Service Champions made an effort to match pricing. We were very happy with their Techs so we went with them.They installed the entire system in 1 day. There must have been 15 people at the house! We have been very happy with the new system and they are always great to call on the phone if you need any assistance. The installation was very clean, the job site was left clean, and the install appeared to be neat and tidy. All work passed the city inspection with no issues.
Description of Work: Relocated and installed new HVAC system, new copper pipes, new electrical connections, new air return.

We signed up for their maintenance contract a couple of years ago ($14.95/mo), which includes bi-annual tune-ups. As previously reported, they try to sell something each time. If you call another contractor for a competitive quote, you'll find out how expensive they are, even with the "Gold" plan discount. The last straw with these guys was when they tried to convince us that our 10 year old furnace had to be replaced because we didn't do all the additional work they tried to sell us. They even brought in a supervisor to convince us how dangerous it was to keep using it. Of course, we decided to get another opinion. I called a very reputable contractor (from Angie's List) that did a thorough inspection and said there was NOTHING wrong with the unit. He cleaned out a small orifice that the SC techs missed on their tune-up. He didn't even charge us. Needless to say, we cancelled our contract with Service Champions.

Service Champions gave me a really bad experience. Their sold me an air conditioner that was too small for my house. It took me two years of wrestling with them to get it resolved. The installation was done wrong too, as it turned out. They kept pushing me off when I'd call them until a nice person there finally tried to help me. It cost me a lot of time to get resolved, and I'll never use them again.

Looking back through the details I see that there was an extended lapse in time where it appears a resolution was in the works, but it is obvious it should have been worked out much sooner than it was. Overall, the experience has been great. I've been a customer with them for at least 10 years. What I like particularly about them is that the technicians have always been honest, friendly and clean. They have other technicans that are experts in other areas, such as plumbing, water heaters, etc, so while they check the heating and air, they also check other areas, and let me know if there's anything else that needs to be fixed or looked into. They always inform me of what I need or what I don't need, and never pressure me to do anything. There's a flat fee, and there aren't any hidden charges. I also know they do alot of free work in the community. They're just a really great company.

The job that they did went very well. We used them because we have the platinum monthly service. They are always very courteous. They are very timely, clean, responsive and respectable. The quality of their work is good. They always clean up. They always put covers on their shoes when they come in and out of the house. They do a twice a year service. They are always friendly and pleasant. They train their people. Until they are completely trained and knowledgeable and are able to do the work on their own, they will have someone with them. They will have someone with them that has the knowledge if they don’t. There is nothing bad I can say about them. We have been using them for three and a half years now. We would definitely continue to use them in the future.

First, some brief background information. I've been an SC customer for 7-8 years, and have had no complaints in those areas that I graded "A." Price has sometimes been a concern, most of all during the last routine maintenance visit, when I also had a thermostat replaced. The SC tech said they only carry one model on their trucks, a Honeywell unit that has their name on the front cover. This models retails for about $55, which of course is not what SC pays for it. Any guesses about the total installed cost? $318, and that's with my "Gold" service contract membership discount. I realize the SC, like any business, must charge for parts, materials, labor, overhead and profit, but this installation happened during a pre-paid service call, and so did not require a second trip. Installing the thermostat , testing it, and programming it took less than 30 minutes. I'm not in the business so I don't know how much of the $318 was for labor, but any amount over about $50 was excessive. I also realize that SC will stand behind the unit's 5 year warranty, but in the unlikely event that as many as 3 replacements are needed during that time, SC will still make an adequate, if not generous, profit. I've not complained about pricing in the past because I don't know the cost of HVAC parts, but this time I had access to the retail cost of a consumer item. If SC is overcharging for the simple installation of a thermostat, I have to be concerned about their pricing for replacing parts whose cost can't be so easily determined.
Description of Work: Installation of a Honey consumer model electronic programmable thermostat, supplied by SC, including testing and initial programming.

We have had a problem receiving the final inspection sign-off from the City. On 10-18-11 a City inspector came to inspect the job and at that time he required that the system receive a HERS test and won't sign off on the City permit until the test is completed. I have repeatedly called Service Champions and been told each time that they cannot get ahold of the city inspector to discuss this issue. The Service Champions office is less than 10 miles from the City Hall and I cannot believe that after almost 1 month the problem is that they cannot get ahold of this person. I would like them to either schedule the HERS test or get the City to agree that the test is not necessary and sign-off on the permit.
Description of Work: Service Champions removed our old heating/air conditioning unit and installed a new system. I don't have any problems with their work installing the new unit and the men that performed the work were prompt and performed their job well.

At the time of the service, I was quite satisfied and planned to call them when I was able to replace the heater and air conditioner. However, I had the gas company come out recently to turn off the pilot light, since I wasn't planning to use the heater this winter. I was told at that time that the heater was perfectly good to use, and there were no cracks. The gas company representative asked me what I was quoted to replace the units, and when I told him he told me that the quote was much too high. This was very disappointing to me, because I felt that I had been taken. I no longer trust this company, and wonder now if my air conditioner really needs replacing. The $69 that I spent was originally intended to be for recharging the air conditioner, and now I feel I got nothing for the money. I've been laid off, and every penny counts, and I can't afford for someone to come out and charge me a service fee if they're not going to give me the service. In the future I will do as the gas company suggested, and rely on recommendations from family and friends.
Description of Work: I called Service Champions in to recharge the freon in my air conditioner. I was told that the air conditioner was really in need of replacing. He checked my heater too, and said that there were cracks in it that would make the heater unsafe to use. He gave me a quote of about $8,000 for replacing both units.

They were very nice people. It was a very hot day but they worked efficiently. They cleaned up and left no mess behind. They were very professional and prompt. I would recommend their services.
Description of Work: Service Champions Heating and Air Conditioning installed new ducts, serviced my air conditioner and installed a booster on the air conditioner so it works better. He also upgraded my heater to city code.

Service Champions (SC) previously installed a new Lennox central heating unit and did a good job and charged a fair price. So, when the outside cooling unit fan for my air conditioner stopped running I called SC. First off they promised to be at my house by a certain time (I believe it was 4pm). I left work early from my job as an attorney and waited. and waited. and waited. Finally, something like an hour and a half after the latest time promised time the SC rep (name withheld) and his assistant arrived. I already had the service cover off of the cooling unit. The rep asked how old my a/c was and I said it was installed in around 1995. He told me he just could not believe it was still running. Really. In maybe 15 minutes the rep advised me that the "run" and the "start" capacitors, and contactor, were bad. I said "fine", now how much to fix. Much to my amazement, the rep told me $1200, but it would be less if I wanted to buy into the monthly service contract. I was completely dumbfounded knowing that these components are not particularly expensive. I told him this was a scam, he knew it was, and I did not appreciate it. Without so much as blinking, he then offered to send a sales manager out to give me a price on a complete new system. I said ok, mostly out of morbid curiosity. An hour or so later the next SC guy arrived (name again withheld). I told him what had happened. No apology, no offer to replace the parts at a fair price. Just a quote on a new system. The price probably wasn't that bad, but that really wasn't the point. The next day a guy from "Comfort Elite" came out and promtply replaced one capacitor and the contactor and still overcharged me ($470)- but hey, it was triple digits and high humidity, and I did not feel like going to a hotel. Still outraged by this experience, I wrote a letter addressed to the president of SC . "Lisa" in customer service (name intentionally not withheld) called me a week or so later and seemed very interested in "making things right." She told me she would be refunding my $60 service call charge, as SC has a "satisfaction guaranteed" policy. I said thank you, I appreciate that. That was well over a week ago and I have yet to receive my refund. Still, I did appreciate the follow up by Lisa. Although it did cost me $470 for parts costing less than $200 installed by another company, my air conditioner continues to run day and night as needed, without issue and nice and cool. Guess I really did not need a new system after all. Go figure.
